Warner Bros. is in final negotiations to acquire Shiver, a unique sci-fi package that has Keanu Reeves attached to star and Deadpool helmer Tim Miller attached to direct.
Matthew Vaughn, the filmmaker behind the Kingsman action movie franchise, will produce via his Marv Films banner along with Aaron Ryder, who counts love story All of You and Gamestop movie Dumb Money among his recent credits.
Ian Shorr wrote the script for Shiver, which has been described as having shades of Edge of Tomorrow, the Tom Cruise sci-fi movie about a soldier trapped in a time loop during an alien invasion, and The Shallows, the Blake Lively shark survival movie.
Plot details are very hazy, but the word on the street is that the story centers on a ne’er-do-well smuggler who finds himself in the middle of a deadly double-cross while on a job in the Caribbean Sea, resulting in him surrounded by bodies, hostile mercenaries and thirsty sharks alike. He next finds himself a deathly time loop and scrambling to break the cycle.
Shorr’s credits include Infinite, a 2021 sci-fi action movie made by Paramount+ that starred Mark Wahlberg and Chiwetel Ejiofor, and the horror comedy Office Uprising, made by now-shuttered streaming service Sony Crackle.
Miller was a vfx wiz who made his directorial debut with Deadpool, the Ryan Reynolds-starring anti-superhero movie that became a record-breaking box office sensation and launched a franchise. While Miller didn’t return for the sequel, he did direct 2019’s Terminator: Dark Fate, James Cameron’s return to the killer cyborg from the future franchise that was to have relaunched a film series. Sadly, it didn’t. Miller has also kept busy as the creator of Netflix’s award-winning adult animated anthology series Love, Death & Robots.
Reeves is coming off the back-to-back releases of Ballerina, Lionsgate’s John Wick spinoff, and Good Fortune, the Aziz Ansari-directed comedy also made by Lionsgate. Sadly, neither were hits. But the actor remains in top demand and has several tentpoles in development, including BRZRKR at Netflix, based on the Boom! Studios comic he co-created.
All the players in Shiver, from the talent to the producers, are repped by WME, which put together the package before taking it out to studio buyers.
The Merc With a Mouth will return to Avengers Campus this fall to kick off the holidays at the Disneyland Resort, spreading holiday cheer and sassy jokes among the Deadpool faithful.
This year, the merry Marvel Studios feature at Disney California Adventure Park will be reimagined as The Story Time with Deadpool Holiday Special. With that nostalgic broadcast show twist, we’re expecting special guests will surely pop in and out of the multiverse to get in the hot seat for jolly ol’ DP. We’re thinking definitely Wolverine, as he was a fun co-star in the park’s initial run of the live entertainment show during the promo period for Deadpool & Wolverine.
Avengers Campus has had its fair share of fun festive shows, including a Hawkeye holiday action stunt-heavy performance and that short run of Rogers: The Musical. Hey, we’d be happy if that came back; the Hyperion theater is just sitting there!
There will be no shortage of Christmastime chaos from Deadpool, as Disney foodie fans will be delighted to hear about the chimichangas. That’s right, Pool’s fave food is making a debut at Pym’s Test Kitchen in Avengers Campus. And it looks so delicious. The Marvel-themed chimichanga is set to include seasoned beef, charred poblano, refried beans, and shredded cheese on a pool of Guajillo sauce with a pico de gallo side salad. All of that needs to get in our belly posthaste.
While it’s particularly exciting to see more of the MCU dig into the spirit of the season with characters and themed food, it’s so awesome to see the unique ways this year’s offerings are gearing up to be a blast at the Disneyland Resort. Even with the Disney icons, we’re interested in side-questing for the Mickey’s Christmas CarolFeast dining experience, where you can meet the version of Mickey and friends, including Goofy in Jacob Marley ghost form. You can book that Storyteller’s Cafe at the Grand Californian hotel.
The big reason we have a Deadpool film trilogy is because of leaked test footage for the first movie back in 2014. It’s since become generally agreed upon that leading man Ryan Reynolds probably had something to do with it, and now the actor himself has gone and said he leaked it, yeah.
Talking to Entertainment Weekly at TIFF, Reynolds said the leak may have been “cheating,” but done with the best of intentions. “I think I was onto something that people would be interested in,” he told the outlet. As he and director Tim Miller went about shooting the footage, Fox became squirrely about doing an R-rated superhero movie starring an obscure character, particularly one they’d already done badly once before.
For Reynolds, the appeal of Deadpool was that he wasn’t an upper-tier character, and his fourth wall-breaking self-awareness. “It was kind of new,” he said of the character’s demeanor. “The test footage…really was a case study of how this could work. And they just wouldn’t do anything with it.” When said footage leaked, he recalled thinking about “the asshole [that] leaked it, and I’m looking at the guy in the mirror brushing my teeth. And I’m like, ‘Dude, what have you done? This could be punishable by law!’ But the internet forced the studio to say, ‘We’re gonna make this movie,’ and 24 hours later, that movie had a green light.”
Since the first Deadpool, Reynolds has become a key creative force in the character’s live-action outings, which have gone on to make a lot of money and help start a wave of R-rated superhero material. Now, people know Deadpool like they do Spider-Man (and both may be in the next Avengers movies), and has become the actor’s definitive role. So congrats to Reynolds for his foresight and hustle?

And just like that it’s official! Just before the 4th weekend of its theatrical run, Deadpool & Wolverine is now the highest grossing R-rated film of all time. The previous record was held by Todd Phillips’ Joker which pulled in $1,078,751,311.
Deadpool and Wolfie have already grossed $1,085,529,057 and they aren’t hitting the brakes just yet.
In celebration, we wanted to showcase some die hard fans and sexy cosplayers. Maximum effort!
Even if Ryan Reynolds insisted upon wielding NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye” (and its signature choreo) as the song for the opening scene of Deadpool and Wolverine, Blake Lively (a.k.a. Mrs. Reynolds) has seen fit to remind people that her millennial-oriented loyalties are forever with Britney Spears. Even when she “lightly” shades Lively for pulling an Ambular in Clueless by “going through her laundry.” Indeed, lately, and at their own peril, millennial women have taken a shine to paying major homage to one, Miss Spears.
It started earlier this summer with Halsey releasing what amounted to a bad cover version of Spears’ 2000 hit, “Lucky.” Although Halsey assured fans that she, of course, got Spears’ permission to use the song and “pay homage” to it with an accompanying video, Spears posted a rather unfavorable take on the single by saying, “For obvious reasons I’m very upset about the Halsey video. I feel harassed, violated and bullied. I didn’t know an artist like her and someone I looked up to and admired would illustrate me in such an ignorant way by tailoring me as a superficial pop star with no heart or concern at all. I have my own health problems which is why I took down my IG account yesterday. I will definitely be putting it back up to show I CARE. I’m speaking with my lawyers today to see what can be done on this matter. It feels illegal and downright cruel.”
Soon after, the post was deleted and replaced by Spears’ insistence that the condemnation was merely “fake news !!! That was not me on my phone !!! I love Halsey and that’s why I deleted it 🌹 !!!” Whether or not Spears’ phone was possessed by another person or another one of Spears’ personalities is at one’s discretion. However, based on this other recent “emotional flare-up” on Spears’ part, it appears as though she may very well have been the true culprit behind the Halsey shade. This based on the fact that, after Blake Lively showed up to the August 6th premiere of It Ends With Us wearing the Versace butterfly dress that Spears famously sported in 2002, Spears felt obliged to respond “indirectly” by, days later, posting a video of herself wearing a riff on the same dress (albeit shorter and differently cut) with the caption, “UPDATED VERSION OF MY 2002 VERSACE DRESS 👗 !!! I LIKE IT WAY BETTER. SHOWS MY LEGS !!! 💅🏻👗🌷🌷.” She then included the post-script, “I’m no @blakelively but I like it.”
Of course, while some might try to insist Spears meant “no shade,” her dick-swinging behavior of late was on-brand for her post-conservatorship, no-fucks-given vibe. (Besides that, why choose to make mention of the same dress and assert her dominance over it at the exact moment after Lively chose to wear it?) In point of fact, Spears has come a long way from being self-effacing and unwilling to take credit for all that she’s done for and contributed to music and pop culture, suddenly suffering no fools when it comes to “tributes.” Regardless of how effusive they might be. This even includes Lively’s gushing Instagram story post directed at Spears upon donning the dress: “Today’s mood. The ultimate queen who made us all want to sparkle and write and share our stories. Britney, us millennials all have a story of a moment, or of years that you made us want to shine and inspire awe, with strength, and joy and immensely hard work. Thank you for your example and your contribution to women telling their stories. So excited about your biopic and all you have to come.” Naturally, this sort of “love letter” to another “stronger than yesterday” woman is befitting of somebody who is known, apparently, as a “crown straightener” a.k.a. “a woman going around straightening all the women’s crowns around her.”
At the premiere itself, Lively continued to rave, “It’s Britney’s actual dress. It should be in the Smithsonian or the Met [instead, it was available via Tab Vintage]. But it’s on me. I feel so lucky.” Ah, that word—which also serves as the song title that Halsey recently “borrowed.” So yes, it would appear that the fellow millennial women showing Spears so much love of late aren’t exactly getting it in return in quite the same maudlin way, with Lively also noting at the premiere, “This dress meant so much to me because of what she meant to me.” Maybe, in this case, Spears was offended by use of the past tense, with Lively continuing, “Like, she was just somebody who represented, like, love and beauty and youth and hard work and determination and strength, and she was in touch with her sexuality and her delicacy and she just sort of represented it all.” To which one must ask: then what does she represent in the present tense?
During what some would like to call her “heyday” (a generally off-putting word used to signify that one’s prime is over), Spears wore the dress to Versace’s presentation of the 2003 women’s spring/summer collection in October of 2002, shortly after her very public breakup with Justin Timberlake—the one that, as she described it, turned her from a pop princess into a “harlot who’d broken the heart of America’s golden boy.” This stated in her memoir The Woman In Me. A book that also takes pause to mention what the Versace butterfly dress and the trip to Milan that year meant to her, with Spears stating, “That trip invigorated me—it reminded me that there was still fun to be had in the world. That party was really the first thing I did to put myself out there after the breakup with Justin—on my own, innocent.” A far cry from her declaration of being “not that innocent” in 2000. In any case, perhaps Lively choosing to home in on that particular aspect of her sartorial iconography felt, somehow, like an invasion of what the form-fitting gown signified to her: a newfound liberty—emerging from a chrysalis after being imprisoned in bubblegum pop/Timberlake land.
At the It Ends With Us premiere, Lively also mentioned, “When this dress was available I was like, ‘Yes, I need it!’ I’ve had it for almost a year now and I’ve been saving it for this.” Not just because one of Spears’ songs appears on the soundtrack, but because it does have a certain “floral-themed” quality to it that correlates with Lively’s flower shop-owning character, Lily Bloom. And while a few might question the relevance of the movie using Spears’ 2003 single, “Everytime,” during the ending credits of the film (performed, instead, by Ethel Cain), any millennial girl can tell you that the song was aimed at Timberlake. At the time when their relationship reigned supreme in the hearts and minds of America, the aftermath of that relationship proved just how, that’s right, toxic (to name another Britney single) the dynamic actually was. Much the same as Lily and Ryle’s (Justin Baldoni) in the movie. Or Lively and Justin Baldoni’s behind the scenes of making it.
In any event, like Halsey, Lively wasn’t deterred from continuing to express her love for Spears even after the “misunderstanding,” “hearting” Spears’ post about the updated version of her dress (the caption, in typical Spears style, was later deleted). A supportive move (in the wake of having cold water dumped on her enthusiasm) that was almost as uncaring and unbothered as Halsey saying, after Spears (or her “handler”) publicly declaring her disdain for “Lucky” 2.0, “I love Britney!!!! I always have and always will[,] you were the first person who ever made me realize what it means to feel inspired. And you continue to inspire me every day.”
Because, no matter what Spears tries to do to deter her original millennial fanbase, there is, evidently, no behavior she can engage in that would ever turn them away from her often uncouth responses to their expressions of love. Besides, when you’ve got a territorial dick to swing, you’ve got to swing it.
For a comic book fan, the ultimate flex is owning a copy of a popular character’s first appearance. Things like Incredible Hulk #181, Detective Comics #27, Amazing Fantasy #15, and Action Comics #1 instantly come to mind. Those first appearances of Wolverine, Batman, Spider-Man, and Superman respectively are holy grails for collectors, but there is a step above that. A step most collectors could never even dream about. And that’s owning the original cover art from one of those issues.
With Deadpool & Wolverine breaking box office records daily, Deadpool and his first appearance in New Mutants #98 hasn’t quite hit the heights of most of those books, but it’s on the way. And now the owner of the original cover art has put it up for sale for the eye-popping price of $7.5 million. If it sells at that price, it’ll become “the single most valuable piece of original comic book art ever sold.”
The owner of this piece has had it for two decades and has, apparently, turned down multiple offers over the years. But, with the new movie in theaters, the piece has been consigned to Heritage Auctions, and you can check it out here. “The time is right,” the anonymous owner of the art said.
New Mutants #98 next to the original art of it. – Rob Liefeld/Marvel Comics
“I’ve long admired—and coveted—this work, which I consider the most important piece of comic book art from the 1990s,” Heritage co-chairman Jim Halperin said in a press release. “I’m thrilled we’re now able to offer it to someone who, like me, admires RobLiefeld and adores his Deadpool, who is among the most beloved characters in comics and, now, the MCU.”
As Halperin said, the art, of course, is by Rob Liefeld, one of the co-creators of the character. He told io9 back in 2016 where the design idea came from. “The visual of Deadpool was very informed by Spider-Man,” Liefeld said. “Recently, I asked [some friends at Marvel], ‘How do you remember when I walked in the studio with Deadpool? They said, ‘You pulled it out of your bag and said ‘Spider-Man with guns and swords.’’ That’s how I pitched it to them. A smart-ass mercenary.” You can read much more about his origins at this link.
And now that smart-ass mercenary has the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time (and counting)—and, quite possibly, the most expensive piece of original comic book art ever created. If someone buys it of course.
Oh, and if you’re wondering what the current most expensive piece of comic book art is, in 2022 the New York Times gave the honor to a $5.4 million Frank Frazetta piece. Which means New Mutants #98 could set the record even if it comes in under that $7.5 million asking price.

Deadpool & Wolverinehits theaters in a few weeks, and it’s been a bit of a longer than expected wait for Wade Wilson to come back in theaters. If you haven’t seen the previous movies in a minute, or just want to watch Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman do some cut back and forth banter, they’ve got you covered.
As part of Entertainment Weekly’s cover story on the film, the two actors sat down to recap the major events of the first two Deadpool movies, and also X-Men Origins: Wolverine. That last one briefly opens the recap, and mostly exists so the two can throw some shade at the film and how it ultimately led to Reynolds reprising his short role to begin with. (“We don’t like to talk about this one too much,” says Jackman early on, followed later by Reynolds saying the movie wasn’t either of their fault.) Throughout the Deadpool sections, there’s plenty of laughs to be had about the makeup job to play Wade’s disfigured face, the “lots of affordable” X-Men throughout the franchise, and Deadpool 2’s meta post-credit gags.
If you’ve had fun watching the two’s rapport grow since they first revealed Jackman would be a part of Deadpool’s third movie, you’re gonna get some fun out of the recap. The pair have been all over the marketing for Deadpool & Wolverine, and it’s fun to watch them get some jabs at each other, be confused by the earlier movies, and also take some shots at their own careers. (When talking about Reynolds murdering himself at the end of Deadpool 2 as “housekeeping” on Fox’s dime, Jackman acknowledges that he may need a cleaner himself.) Sadly, there’s no recap of Logan, which makes sense since this is an alternate version, but it would’ve been fun watching them try explaining movies’ wonky-ass timeline.
Deadpool & Wolverine arrives in theaters on July 26. All the X-Men movies can be watched on Disney+, and if you don’t have that, just wait two weeks for FX to marathon the first two Deadpool movies (and probably Origins and Logan too).
That’s one of the new images above, featuring Wade (Ryan Reynolds) and Peter at work together. It’s from a scene early in the film that screened at CinemaCon 2024 and you can read all about it here. Basically, Wade and Peter are car salesman and while Peter wants Wade to go back to being Deadpool, Wade does not. This is before the birthday party you see in the trailers.
Then here’s another photo of Peter that looks more like it’s from Superstore than a superhero film but hey, he’s great so we like it.

Finally, here’s the new image of Cassandra Nova, the character we all expect to be the big bad of the film. Either way, she’s certainly one of the main villains, considering the trailers have shown here with a team of B-level X-Men characters, in a gigantic Ant-Man helmet, and her powers completely baffling Wolverine (Hugh Jackman). But here we get a bit more of her stare, a bit more of her fashion, and a bit more of her lair. She looks very calm, very confident, and very much like Professor X, whom she’s related to in the comics but…is she here?

Just a brief tease of Deadpool & Wolverine, which is coming very, very soon. Starring tars Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, and Matthew Macfadyen, it opens July 26.
It’s now been five years since Disney bought 20th Century Fox, and we’re finally seeing that really pay off on the movie side. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apesis hitting theaters next week, Alien: Romulusand Deadpool & Wolverineare later this summer. What Fox movies are due next for a comeback? The Maze Runnerseries, naturally.
Studio Thought Seed of Chucky Was ‘Too Gay, Too Funny’
Per the Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Studios is looking to reboot the YA sci-fi movies for a new generation. Heading up those efforts is writer Jack Paglen, best known for 2014’s si-fi thriller Transcendence starring Johnny Depp. Sources speaking to THR claim the reboot will look to continue the original story while also returning to the roots of that original film.
In case you’ve forgotten, the original Maze Runner—directed by Wes Ball, who’s helming Kingdom (and eventually Legend of Zelda), and will produce this new flick—released in 2014 and was based on the dystopian YA books written by James Dashner. Dylan O’Brien starred as an amnesiac kid named Thomas who woke up in up in a big grass area home to other boys that’s also surrounded by a massive maze. Deeply curious and unable to shake that something was going on, Thomas worked to uncover the maze’s secrets and find a way for him and the other Gladers to escape.
The Maze Runner franchise was one of many trying to chase after Hunger Games and Twilight money, and ended up succeeding. Its first movie made $348.3 million (against a $34 million budget), and its two sequels—2015’s Scorch Trialsand 2018’s Death Cure—were equally big at $312.3 million and $288.2 million, respectively. (The latter film was infamously delayed after O’Brien was hospitalized for serious injuries and had to recover).
Not long after the merger completed, Disney confirmed it’d eventually spin up new Maze Runner movies. Instead of pulling a Hunger Gamesand doing a movie or two based on the previously released prequel books The Kill Order and Fever Code, it looks like Disney’s decided to start anew. Rebooting not-that-old YA fare appears to be the move nowadays, if Twilightand (arguably) Percy Jacksonare any indication. The original Maze movies were pretty fun, solid films, so here’s hoping the same is true of this reboot whenever it runs into theaters.
Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine has defined the Fox era of X-Men movies. His storied tenure from the 2000 film all the way up to Logan gave us perhaps one of the most definitive live-action superhero performances of our lifetime. That makes the temptation of his return in Deadpool & Wolverine so potent—but for Marvel Studios’ head honcho, it was almost a curse.
Who Should Be The New Wolverine? io9 Picks
“I said, ‘Let me give you a piece of advice, Hugh. Don’t come back’,” Feige recently told Empire about advising Jackman on a potential return to the character he’d stunningly bid farewell to in 2017’s Logan. “‘You had the greatest ending in history with Logan. That’s not something we should undo.’” But Feige’s advice actually pushed Jackman to really consider what he’d want out of a return.
“I was about an hour into the drive,” Jackman said of his headspace after initial pitches. “And that question came into my head: ‘What do I want to do?’ And as soon as I asked the question, I wanted to do Deadpool & Wolverine. I just knew it. I drove for another hour. Couldn’t stop thinking about it. And I got out of the car, called Ryan [Reynolds], and said, ‘Ryan, if you’ll have me, I’m in.’”
What Jackman wanted to do was not actually return to the same character we saw perish in Logan, but offer a new take on Wolverine that, while drawing on his presence in the history of the Fox X-Men saga and its myriad permutations, also did something new with the character. Even if that ‘new’ was something as simple as finally letting Jackman put on the yellow spandex Logan and Cyclops had joked about way back in the first X-Men film. “We almost [had the suit on] in The Wolverine,” Jackman added. “But from the moment I put it on here, I was like, ‘How did we never do this?’ It looked so right, it felt so right. I was like, ‘That’s him.’ There are different sides of Wolverine we haven’t seen before in the movies. It was exciting for me.”
Hopefully we’ll see many more sides of Logan beyond just a costume change when Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters July 26.

With a bunch of Loki connections already revealed in the trailers, Deadpool & Wolverine is going to be a treat for fans of the hit Disney+ series. Now, one character is reportedly appearing in Deadpool’s latest raunchy adventure.
Deadpool & Wolverine, due out in theaters on July 26, sees Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) and Logan (Hugh Jackman) teaming up to stop Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin) from wreaking havoc in the multiverse. The two team up after being recruited by Agent Paradox (Matthew Macfayden) of the Time Variance Authority, which oversees the flow of time.
The film’s first connection to Loki is obvious: the TVA. First introduced in Loki season 1, the TVA is a vast bureaucracy that exists outside of time. In season 1, the TVA is dedicated to deleting errant timelines that branch off of the Sacred Timeline. When Loki inadvertently starts a new branch by stealing the Tesseract, he’s arrested by the TVA and then recruited to help stop a dangerous variant of himself. In season 2, the TVA pivots to protecting the infinite branches of the multiverse from variants of He Who Remains, a.k.a. Kang the Conqueror.
Another possible connection to Loki is only rumor at this point, but it would be a fun addition: President Loki, a Loki variant loosely based on the comic book series Vote Loki, is rumored to play a role in the film.
One TVA agent, Hunter B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku), is pivotal to both seasons of Loki. In season 1, she captures Loki and brings him into custody. In season 2, she helps Loki and Mobius (Owen Wilson) bring stability to the multiverse and fend off Kang variants. In fact, at the end of the series, it’s hinted that she rises to a leadership role in the TVA.
Now, Mosaku may be returning to the role of B-15 in Deadpool & Wolverine.
Sources say Hunter B-15 will be in Deadpool & Wolverine
(Disney)
Yesterday, The Cosmic Circus reported that according their sources, Hunter B-15 will “have a brief role” in the film. The outlet didn’t provide much more detail than that, but if Marvel stays true to form, the role could possibly be a short cameo on par with Valkyrie’s appearance in The Marvels. That’s just speculation on my part, though. Plus, the report doesn’t necessarily mean the cameo will happen. The source could be wrong, or the film could go through last-minute edits.
Still, B-15 would be a welcome addition to the cast, especially since her character is so important to the new and improved TVA. If Deadpool & Wolverine takes place after Loki season 2, then it would make sense to show her helping to lead the TVA’s new mission.

On Monday morning, Marvel Studios — via Reynolds — dropped a trailer for the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine, teasing the third Deadpool movie with plenty of salty language, explosions and fighting between the real-life pals.
“Hi peanut,” Deadpool says in the trailer’s opening as he approaches a barfly Wolverine, who’s apparently drowning his sorrows in a dark pub.
“I’m going to need you to come with me right now,” he adds, in a pitch to recruit Wolverine to help him save the world.
Set to Madonna’s 1989 hit Like a Prayer, the trailer proves why the new movie marks Marvel Studios’ first R-rated film — numerous F-bombs and a painful claws-to-the-groin moment all happen within the first minute.
The other big reveal is that Deadpool and Wolverine will go up against one of X-Men’s most dangerous villains of all time, Cassandra Nova, played by The Crown’s Emma Corrin.
There’s exactly one Marvel Studios movie coming to theaters this year, but it’s one of the biggest to date. Deadpool & Wolverine is scheduled for release on July 26 and it won’t only be the first MCU film for Ryan Reynolds’ wisecracking killer, but also the MCU debut of Wolverine, played by Hugh Jackman.
Who Should Be The New Wolverine? io9 Picks
That alone already has fans excited and the number of people who watched the first trailer proved it again. Continuing the fun, Disney debuted new footage at CinemaCon 2024, and here’s what happened.
Wade Wilson grabs a staple gun, uses it to put on his wig, and says “Now let’s sell some certified pre-owned vehicles, motherfucker.” Smash cut to Wade in the back seat of a car with a family on a test drive. They ask him some questions but he keeps cursing and mentions he doesn’t have kids because he doesn’t have much vaginal sex. He’s bad at this.
Peter (Rob Delaney) apparently works there too and they talk in the locker room about how Wade may be a bad salesperson, but he can always go back to being a superhero. Wade explains that he’s done for good. This is the life he wants and if you “aim for the middle, you’ll never miss.” Peter shows him that he keeps an old Deadpool suit in his locker anyway.
Wade and Peter ride bikes home from work and Wade notices someone taking photos of them. The conversation continues about wanting to be superheroes again and Peter asks Wade if he’s just sad because it’s his birthday. He also mentions a very interesting piercing he’s just gotten.
Yes, it’s Wade’s birthday. He goes into his apartment and it’s a surprise party. There are all his friends from the first two movies: Negasonic, Colossus, Dopinder, Blind Al, and others. Wade goes around the room and catches up with everyone. One highlight of this is Wade and Al going back and forth with a ton of insults. She asks him if he wants to do some cocaine and he says that’s the one thing Kevin Feige said was off the table. She rattles off a bunch of different fake names and he says Feige knows them all. Finally she says, “Do you want to build a snowman?” To which he says, yes but I can’t.
Vanessa is also there and they are no longer together. She’s seeing someone from work though, and Wade is happy for her, though he’s not seeing anyone.
The group sings “Happy Birthday” and then Wade gives a heartfelt speech about how much he loves everyone in this room. He says that despite some tough years, he’s truly happy now because of them. He then goes on to blow out the candles… and the second he does, there’s a knock at the door.
You’ve seen some of this in the trailer. It’s the TVA. Wade assumes they’re a group of men who are there to have sex with him and he gets very dirty about what he wants them to do with all his holes. They then get fed up, knock him out, and put him through one of those TVA doors.
In the TVA, Mr. Paradox (Matthew McFayden) tells Wade that a) he soiled himself, and b) what the TVA does. “That’s a shit ton of exposition for a threequel,” Wade says. Mr. Paradox tells him he knows that Wade has been abusive of the timeline previously, with Cable’s time travel device, but that’s not why he’s there.
Apparently Wade has been chosen for a higher purpose. One that’s even unclear to the TVA. He needs to save the sacred timeline from a grisly fate at some point in the future. The two guys joke that it needs to be “Avenged.” That they’re going to “Marvel” at how “Cinematic” is. Wade says he wants it all, cameos, variants, the works.
They turn to the screen and on it is Steve Rogers as Captain America. Wade knows him and salutes the screen. “You’re no longer lost,” Mr. Paradox says, “You can now be a hero.” At this point, Wade notices a screen where Thor is holding a dying Deadpool and crying. “Why is Thor crying?” he asks. Wade isn’t supposed to see that though; that’s something that happens in the distant future.
Wade is all in and says he will return and help. He then turns to the camera, runs toward it, grabs it, shakes it and says “Suck it Fox! I’m going to Disneyland!” He also fellates the boom microphone a bit.
“Oh, there’s one more thing I need,” Wade says. It’s a costume. A TVA tailor makes him a brand new upgraded Deadpool costume, which comes together in a quick series of fast edits… which include more than a few of the tailor grabbing Wade’s crotch.
Wade loves the new costume, even if he has to tell them the tailor is a predator. He also mentions that his samurai swords are made out of adamantium. He jokes around that one of the TVA employees is eyeing him up and his underwear is getting tighter. The employee picks up the phone to call HR.
That leads into a montage of action scenes largely from the first trailer. Dog Pool running in slow motion. Lots of shooting. Wade in the back seat of a bloody car. And then, finally, we see him and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine sitting together in a car.
“What’s with the suit?” Wade asks. “Do the X-Men make you wear it?” He comments he looks like he fights crime for the Los Angeles Rams, but Wolverine isn’t having it. “I’m just trying to bond a bit,” he says.
Directed by Shawn Levy, Deadpool & Wolverine stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. It opens July 26.
Update: the headline on the original post was updated to more accurately describe the length of the footage.
So that’s Deadpool & Wolverine, the movie, in theaters July 26. There’s also Deadpool and Wolverine, the Marvel Comics characters, and they feature prominently on this gorgeous officially licensed art by Doaly that’s now on sale at MoorArtGallery.com.

This piece is actually called Deadpool vs. Wolverine, which is a smart way to distinguish it from the movie. But also, it’s not a coincidence that it’s being released around the same time, and Deadpool himself would approve of the crossover. Plus, in the piece, we get the cheeky twist of it being Deadpool saying Wolverine’s trademark sound. So is it Deadpool who has the claws or Wolverine? It’s art, whatever you say goes.
So no, this isn’t a Deadpool & Wolverine poster. But it’s a Deadpool and Wolverine poster. Which is kind of the same. Same characters, different syntax. The piece is a 16 x 24 inch giclée with an embossed seal that comes with an artist-signed certificate of authenticity. It’s a limited edition of $250 and costs about $70.
