  • Man wanted in deadly St. Anthony stabbing arrested in Duluth after chase ends in crash

    [ad_1]

After a chase ended in a crash, deputies in Duluth, Minnesota, on Saturday arrested a man wanted in connection with a fatal stabbing in the Twin Cities.

The St. Anthony Police Department says officers were called to Equinox Apartments just after 5 a.m. for a reported stabbing.

Officers arrived to find a man and a boy who had been injured. The man died, but the boy was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

Law enforcement attempted to contact the suspect, who they believed had been inside an apartment, but later learned he had fled the scene before officers arrived, police say.

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office says information indicated the suspect may have been attempting to drive a stolen vehicle to an address in Lake County, along the North Shore of Lake Superior.

A deputy observed the vehicle in Duluth around 9 a.m. Deputies attempted to perform a traffic stop, but the suspect fled in the vehicle for several miles before it crashed into a squad car near the intersection of North Shore Drive and Homestead Road.

Law enforcement arrested the suspect, who attempted to flee on foot.

A St. Louis County sheriff’s deputy suffered minor injuries in the crash and has since been released from the hospital, according to the sheriff’s office.

  • Teen stepson charged with murder after decapitation, stabbing of man on Staten Island

    [ad_1]

WEST BRIGHTON, Staten Island (WABC) — A 19-year-old man is facing charges after his 45-year-old stepfather was found stabbed to death on Staten Island.

Damien Hurstel is charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

Officials say police received a call for a person stabbed at 380 Cary Ave. in the West Brighton section just before 4:30 p.m. Monday.

When officers arrived, they discovered the 45-year-old victim in the bathtub with multiple stab wounds to his head and neck.

The victim was pronounced dead. Police identified him as 45-year-old Anthony Casalaspro.

“This whole world is upside down. This is like a terrible, horrible, to do this to a person you know not even to an animal, you don’t do that,” a neighbor said.

That’s when Hurstel was taken into custody.

Police say the stepson’s sister walked into the home around 4 p.m. and found blood in rooms throughout the home. She then discovered the victim in the bathtub.

According to police sources, the victim wasn’t just stabbed, but decapitated, with the knife still in the body of the victim when police arrived on the scene

They say it’s unclear what led to the violent stabbing. Hurstel has no prior arrests.

Hugh Nembhard told Eyewitness News that he has lived across the street for some 60 years.

“I’m not familiar with the stepson. I never saw him. I saw the father, but never the stepson,” he said. “I don’t know what to make of it. I don’t know what to make of this. This is a shock to me. The neighborhood has changed.”

Police said Hurstel may have a history of mental illness.

    The investigation is ongoing.

1 teenager killed, 1 other injured in stabbing at Riverside party, police say

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (KABC) — Two teenagers were stabbed, one of them fatally, during a party in Riverside early Sunday morning.

Officers responded to a complaint of a loud party in the 3400 block of Gay Way around 12:20 a.m., according to the Riverside Police Department.

When they arrived at the scene, where the party was already in the process of shutting down, they found two teen boys suffering from stab wounds. One of them died at the scene and another was taken to the hospital with a non-life threatening stab wound.

Less than half an hour later, police learned of a third teenager who had also been taken to the hospital with an unspecified injury. Authorities determined that the teen was possibly involved in the stabbing and was detained.

Police don’t believe anybody else was involved. All of them were described as being of high school age.

Additional details about what led up to the stabbing were not available.
