    Based on Philip K. Dick’s 1968 novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and set in a dystopian Los Angeles in 2019, Ridley Scott’s 1982 film Blade Runner eerily predicted aspects of our grim present. Sure, we may not live among synthetic humans in the real world (yet), but online, social media is plagued by bots that act like humans (and humans that act like bots), and those annoying captchas asking us to click on all the photos of motorcycles are basically our version of the Voight-Kampff test. Anyway, this gritty Harrison Ford-starring neo-noir flick initially perplexed audiences, but has since settled into sci-fi classic status. Detroit’s Redford Theatre is screening the director’s cut of the movie in partnership with the Art Deco Society, which features plenty of goodies for Blade Runner heads including a raffle for memorabilia, illustrated prints available for purchase, and a pre-show DJ. The film is rated R and has a run-time of one hour and 50 minutes.

    Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its Art, Beats + Lyrics festival, which is headed to Detroit’s Eastern Market in March.

    The event includes visual art, hip-hop, and cocktails. It’s set for 7 p.m.-midnight on Friday, March 1 at Eastern Market.

    “Art, Beats + Lyrics merges together two things that have the unique ability to connect people of all cultures, ages, and ethnicities — music and art, ” says Keenan Harris of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey. “For 20 years, Art, Beats + Lyrics has been creating unique art experiences that provide a platform for urban artists and musicians to showcase their artistic creativity.”

    The tour stops also include the newly launched “The Verse: AB+L Metaverse Experience.” Otherwise, details are still under wraps.

    Previous versions of the event have featured performances from acts like Kendrick Lamar, Rapsody, Mannie Fresh, Scarface, Bun B, and more.

    The event is open to attendees ages 21 and older only, with valid ID. There is no cover, but the event has a limited capacity and is open on a first come, first served basis.

    Fireside Lovefest brings local R&B to Big Pink.

    Detroit-based entertainment event production company Code x Rosella is preparing to host its inaugural R&B festival, Fireside Lovefest. The group’s mission is to open doors for local artists, and this event is centered specifically on providing a platform for R&B musicians to reach audiences outside of their own. Happening not too long after Valentine’s Day, the Fireside Lovefest centers around themes of love in all forms including romance, self-love, friendship, and the community’s love for the city of Detroit. Performers include Natasia, 904 Matcha, Tommy Papi, Racquel Soledad, Jahz Watts, and B Free, among many others. There will also be a hot cocoa and s’more bar, along with Big Pink’s usual alcoholic bar options. Tickets can be purchased on Resident Advisor.

    Khana is serving up its first-ever five-course meal at Frame in Hazel Park.

    Detroit food pop-up Khana has been slinging Pakistani-inspired food around the city since 2018 but has never hosted a full-fledged multi-course dinner until now. On Friday, Khana will be taking over Hazel Park’s Frame with a “Modern Pakistani Dinner Party” by owner and chef Maryam Khan. Khana is coming off a run on Food Network’s The Great Food Truck Race last summer, where it finished in second place. The pop-up did a month-long residency at Frame Bar in 2022 with a la carte items but for this dinner, Khan is planning a five-course meal with the flavors we’ve come to expect of Khana plus some new items. While the menu hasn’t been released, we’re told to expect “chimi-chutney, tandoori, tons of candlelight, [and] vibey beats.” The 100% halal dinner has seatings at 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. with both vegetarian and meat-eater options available. Just a heads up: Khana’s food can be spicy, so no wimps allowed.

    Michigan’s GRIDLIFE Midwest motorsports and music festival has announced the lineup for its 2024 edition, set for Friday, June 7-Sunday, June 9 at Gingerman Raceway in South Haven.

    The bass-heavy lineup features headliners Zeds Dead and Mersiv, with support acts including Tape B, Barely Alive, Eazybaked, G-REX, A Hundred Drums, a b2b set from SuperAve and Heyz, and more.

    Dubbed “The Music Festival At High Speed,” GRIDLIFE combines electronic dance music with on-track motorsports exhibitions and a car show. The event is now in its 11th year.

    “As pioneers of the music and motorsports festival concept, the GRIDLIFE Midwest Festival authentically brings together the cultures of cars and music,” organizer Chris Stewart said in a statement. “It hosts dozens of nationally touring musical acts on Friday and Saturday nights, with non-stop motorsports on track all day, including the wheel-to-wheel GRIDLIFE Touring Cup, epic full-course drifting with some of the world’s best drivers, and the brutal speed of Time Attack in the NOS Energy TrackBattle Championship. Coupled with much more throughout the festival, it’s truly an experience like nowhere else in the world.”

    This year, the festival is also introducing the HPDE Beginner Single Sessions, where attendees can learn how to drive their own car on the track with the help of a driving instructor.

    This is a group show of feminine power. Opening on Friday, Divine Wisdom: Femme Alchemy Through Contemporary Art and Performance includes visual art by five female artists working in Detroit along with multiple installations and performances at the Jam Handy. It features work on feminine identity, sexuality, and occult practices by Shaina Kasztelan, Sara Nickleson, Olivia Guterson, Dawn Marie Smith, and Sedona Cohen. There will also be floral art by Four Leaf Clover Studios, aerial silks by Dari Blythe, a piano and vocal performance by Chakrubs founder Vanessa Cuccia, a Suzy Poling light installation, tattoo models styled in Supernatural Lingerie, and a DJ set by FemmeDom Detroit founder Petra Steele. “As a curator, I explore how feminine power can be inculcated through art, meditation, sexuality, psychedelics, and other experiences,” Divine Wisdom curator Samara Furlong said about the show. “These five artists channel energy and knowledge through their artistic processes into work that creates conversation and community. They are speaking to the collective consciousness and creating a space for growth and healing. Artmaking for these women is an alchemical process — a means for transforming the world around them and us.”

    Laylit, a collective that celebrates music from the Arab region and its diaspora, will be hosting a party in Detroit at Spot Lite this weekend. The night’s lineup of DJs will include Tammy Lakkis, a rising voice in Detroit’s electronic music scene, alongside fellow Detroiter aa3ع, plus MNSA from Montreal, and Laylit founder Saphe from New York City. Over the last five years, Laylit’s dance parties, which have been mainly held in NYC and Montreal, have become highly anticipated events offering a unique experience to North American nightlife. Each Laylit party gives DJs the freedom to uniquely showcase the musical diversity in the Arab region, blending traditional sounds of shaabi, dabke, and mahraganat with Arabic pop, hip-hop, and electronic dance music. The collective hopes to create unity through these events by valuing inclusivity across cultures, languages, and identities.     Just as the character Batman has been rebooted and reimagined over the years, so has his trusty Batmobile, which might be the ultimate expression of hot rod culture. That was certainly the case in 2022’s The Batman, whose scrappy superhero drove a retro-inspired, souped-up muscle car. Among the more than 800 hot rods and custom cars that will be showcased in this year’s Autorama in March are five generations of the Batmobile, including the rides from the playful 1966 TV series starring Adam West, Tim Burton’s Batman Returns starring Michael Keaton in 1992, 1995’s Batman Forever with Val Kilmer, the 2005 “Tumbler” from Batman Begins starring Christian Bale, and 2017’s Justice League with Ben Affleck. This year’s show will also feature vehicles owned by the real-life daredevil Evel Kneivel, including his famous X2 Skyrocket, the Snake River Rocket Concept Trike, and the Formula Dragster, as well as GM’s 50 millionth car, a gold-plated 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air Coupe. There will also be celebrity guests including Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider and Noel G from the Fast & Furious series, as well as the Miss Autorama pin-up contest. And, as usual, the exhibitors will be competing for the Ridler Award — no, that Riddler!
