  • ‘Yogurt Shop Murders’ investigators lay out how they solved killings of four teen girls

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

New DNA and ballistics testing have linked a serial killer to the 1991 “Yogurt Shop Murders,” solving a case that has haunted Austin, Texas, for more than three decades.

During a news conference on Monday, the Austin Police Department announced that genetic evidence linked Robert Eugene Brashers to the killing of four teenage girls inside a North Austin yogurt shop.

“After 34 years, the Austin Police have made a significant breakthrough in one of the most devastating cases in our city’s history,” said Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis. “This unthinkable crime has weighed heavily on the hearts of our community, the families of the victims and our detectives who have tirelessly pursued justice.”

Investigators say a major breakthrough in the case came in recent weeks, when advanced testing revealed that DNA found beneath 13-year-old Amy Ayers’ fingernails matched that of Brashers — a man previously connected to homicides in both Missouri and South Carolina.

“I have never been so proud of my daughter in all of my life,” her father, Bob Ayers, told the Austin American-Statesman. Authorities believe Ayers managed to gather the DNA during a desperate struggle with her attacker.

“Our whole family knew there was something about Amy that would help solve this,” Ayers said.

    He added, “This is over.”

Brashers, who died by suicide during a 1999 standoff with Missouri police, had already been tied to a string of violent crimes across the country.

In 2018, officials in Missouri announced that DNA evidence connected Brashers to the 1990 strangulation of a woman in South Carolina, as well as the 1998 shootings of a mother and daughter in Missouri. He was also linked to the 1997 rape of a 14-year-old girl in Tennessee.

Then, in June, Jackson resubmitted ballistics data from a .380 caliber shell casing recovered at the yogurt shop to a federal database. The results matched an unsolved 1998 case in Kentucky. While Jackson declined to share details about the Kentucky case, he noted that it bore similarities to the Austin murders.

In August, South Carolina investigators informed Austin detectives that new DNA testing on a sample from under Amy Ayers’ fingernail matched Brashers — confirming his connection to the 1990 South Carolina murder.

“Amy’s final moments on this Earth were to solve this case for us,” Jackson told The Courier of Montgomery County. “It’s because of her fighting back.”

Police are still piecing together why Brashers was in Austin the night of the murders, but noted he was stopped near El Paso just two days later. He told police he was driving a stolen truck from Georgia to visit his father in Arizona.

A .380 caliber handgun found on Brashers during that stop was confiscated by police but later returned to his father — who may have given it back to him. Jackson said it was the same make and model Brashers used when he died by suicide during a 1999 standoff with Missouri police.

On Dec. 6, 1991, firefighters responding to a fire at the I Can’t Believe It’s Yogurt store made a horrifying discovery: the bodies of Eliza Thomas, 17; sisters Jennifer, 17, and Sarah Harbison, 15; and Sarah’s best friend Amy Ayers, 13.

All had been shot in the head. Authorities believe the girls were bound, that some were sexually assaulted, and that the fire was intentionally set to destroy evidence.

The investigation faced major hurdles early on, as fire and water damage compromised much of the physical evidence. Thousands of tips poured in, but most led nowhere and no suspect was ever conclusively tied to the crime. The case eventually went cold.

For the families, decades of uncertainty became its own form of torture. Pam Ayers, Amy’s mother, told the Statesman that she is still trying to process the new revelations.

“I can’t say I am happy,” she said. “I’m not there. I am kind of numb. Knowing it is a serial killer, I am not sure that makes it worse, but I would have never thought it would be a serial killer. That is hard for me to process.”

While Brashers is long deceased, police say the investigation is ongoing. Detectives are working with agencies in other states to trace his movements and determine whether he is connected to additional unsolved crimes.

Austin Mayor Kirk Watson said he hopes the breakthrough may help the city move forward.

“My hopefulness is that we can turn a page as a community and hopefully the final page on this horror that marked a very different time in Austin’s history,” Watson said. “We can take heart in our growth and progress and strength as a city. And we can go to sleep knowing that while the threat of this kind of evil may never pass in this world, we are far, far better able to prevent it before it happens and solve it when it does.”

Authorities are urging anyone with information about Brashers to come forward.

  • Three women indicted for allegedly livestreaming chase of ICE agent to his home and posting address online

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

A federal grand jury has indicted three women for allegedly following a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent from his workplace, livestreaming the pursuit on social media and then posting his home address online.

The indictment charges the trio — Cynthia Raygoza, 37, of Riverside, California; Ashleigh Brown, 38, of Aurora, Colorado; and Sandra Carmona Samane, 25, of Panorama City, California — with one count of conspiracy and one count of publicly disclosing the personal information of a federal agent, according to a Friday announcement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California.

“Our brave federal agents put their lives on the line every day to keep our nation safe,” Acting U.S. Attorney in California Bill Essayli said in a statement. “The conduct of these defendants is deeply offensive to law enforcement officers and their families. If you threaten, dox, or harm in any manner one of our agents or employees, you will face prosecution and prison time.”

On August 28, the women allegedly followed the ICE agent from the Civic Center in downtown Los Angeles to his house, livestreaming the chase live on Instagram accounts identified as “ice_out_of_la,” “defendmesoamericanculture,” and “corn_maiden_design,” according to the indictment.

ANTI-ICE ATTACKERS REVEALED TO HAVE EXTENSIVE HISTORY OF RADICAL PROTEST ACTIVITIES

Prosecutors allege the defendants gave directions as they followed the agent and urged viewers to share the feed. Once outside of his home, they shouted to neighbors that their “neighbor is ICE,” “la migra lives here,” and “ICE lives on your street, and you should know,” as noted in the indictment.

  • Virginia AG calls Dem prosecutor’s actions ‘weaponized incompetence’ in scathing report

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares released a 33-page report on Friday chronicling what he said were systemic violations of public policy and trust by Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano.

Descano, an elected Democrat, has been under fire for purportedly lax prosecutorial discretion, including in cases involving transgender people and most recently an abduction by a repeat offender at the Fair Oaks Mall near John Foster Dulles International Airport.

In that case, Caceres Jaldin allegedly scooped up a 3-year-old girl who got separated from her parents at the mall’s playground, before the guardians caught up with him on another floor of the complex.

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin lambasted Fairfax officials and separately asked Miyares to investigate their handling of Jaldin, who had just been released from prison. Jaldin has been charged in 30 instances since 2016, according to local outlet FairfaxNow, which also reported Descano dropped two charges of “malicious wounding” last year.

Descano also faced criticism over Fairfax’s handling of a jogger’s rape on the W&OD Trail — a popular path linking Purcellville and Washington, D.C. — after the arrested suspect was revealed to have a lengthy history of sexual assaults and had recently been released from custody.

In 2022, the police chief in Herndon – where the alleged assault also occurred – told FOX-5 that Descano’s office downgraded a felony indictment to a misdemeanor in a case relating to the man allegedly choking one of their officers.

“Justice isn’t optional,” Miyares, a Republican, said Friday. “And our laws are not suggestions.”

“Fairfax Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano has betrayed the rule of law and the very people he swore to protect, turning prosecutorial discretion into deliberate, weaponized incompetence,” said Miyares, who is running for reelection against former Del. Jerrauld “Jay” Jones, D-Norfolk.

Miyares said Descano took an oath to uphold the law and protect victims in Fairfax County — home to George Washington, George Mason, Richard Bland Lee and other historic figures.

VIRGINIA AG RELEASES FINDINGS OF INVESTIGATION INTO ROANOKE COLLEGE TRANS SWIMMER INCIDENT

In his report, Miyares took particular aim at Descano’s policy prohibiting enforcement of some mandatory minimum sentences for serious crimes, and relaxing or ignoring cash bail requirements for recidivists.

The report alleged Descano “repeatedly commit[ed] Brady and discovery violations” – with Brady referring to requirements to present known exculpatory evidence to the defense – and engaged in “raw prosecutorial incompetence.”

As for alleged violations of the state constitution, Miyares found that Descano may have violated Article I Section 8A, regarding denying crime victims all rights guaranteed in law.

  • Mangione, Catholic Church shooter, Charlie Kirk shooter, ICE shooter all used engraved bullets

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

A gunman who opened fire at a Dallas immigration facility Wednesday allegedly left behind a bullet casing inscribed with the phrase “anti-ICE,” part of a recent trend of suspects in high-profile shootings signaling their possible motives through their ammunition.

FBI Director Kash Patel shared a picture of the casings, saying one was engraved and “shows an ideological motive” behind the attack. The incident followed the accused killer of Charlie Kirk inscribing gamer-inspired antifascist messaging on bullet casings and Luigi Mangione using words on his casings linked to health insurance companies.

The suspect in the Dallas incident, Joshua Jahn, 29, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after killing one detainee and critically injuring two others, the Department of Homeland Security said.

ANTI-ICE MESSAGE FOUND ON SHOOTER’S ROUNDS IN DEADLY ATTACK AT ICE FACILITY, FBI SAYS

FBI Director Kash Patel said investigators recovered these rounds from the scene in Dallas where a gunman opened fire on the local ICE field office on Sept. 24, 2025.  (FBI)

While detainees were the victims, Jahn fired “indiscriminately” and was “motivated by a hatred for ICE,” the DHS said.

Tyler Robinson, 22, is facing murder charges in Utah and stands accused of assassinating Christian conservative activist Kirk during a speaking event at a college this month. Four bullet casings recovered with Robinson’s firearm contained phrases popular in gaming culture, including a direct mention of fascism and a possible reference to an antifascist Italian folk song.

Local and federal authorities have said Robinson had become more political in recent years and was inspired by a hatred for Kirk.

In Luigi Mangione’s case, evidence has shown the 27-year-old struggled with chronic back pain and had at some point documented frustrations with the health insurance industry, which prosecutors have tied to writing found on Mangione’s ammunition.

Mangione stands accused of murdering UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, whose killing on a sidewalk in New York City was captured in chilling surveillance footage as Thompson entered a hotel for a conference. Bullets recovered at the crime scene contained three words popular with critics who say health insurers mishandle claims.

“In preparing for the crime, the defendant took the time to write the words ‘Deny,’ ‘Depose,’ and ‘Delay’ on the bullets he used — two of which were recovered at the scene of the murder as shell casings (because the bullets had been fired) and one of which was recovered as a live round,” prosecutors wrote in court papers.

The apparent pattern of young suspected killers marking their crimes with ideological messages on spent and unspent munitions comes as politically charged violence takes center stage in the national discourse.

A vast majority of voters in a recent Quinnipiac survey said the nation is in a “political crisis” and that political violence is a “very serious” issue. An Atlantic analysis of hundreds of terrorism incidents found that patterns in left-wing and right-wing attacks have fluctuated over three decades but that a rise in left-wing terrorism began when Trump was elected in 2016.

Attackers sending their politicized messages through writings is not new, though the writings have more commonly been known to crop up in various types of manifestos.

  • Bondi praises Ryan Routh verdict, says assassination attempt was an ‘affront to our very nation itself’

Attorney General Pam Bondi said Tuesday’s guilty verdict for Ryan Routh, who was accused of trying to assassinate President Donald Trump while he played a round of golf at a Florida golf course, was part of the Justice Department’s commitment to combating political violence.

A jury convicted Routh on all charges after he attempted to assassinate then-presidential candidate Trump at his West Palm Beach golf club last September.

Following the verdict, Routh reportedly tried to stab himself in the neck with a pen before four U.S. Marshals restrained him.

“Today’s guilty verdict against would-be Trump assassin Ryan Routh illustrates the Department of Justice’s commitment to punishing those who engage in political violence,” Bondi said. “This attempted assassination was not only an attack on our President, but an affront to our very nation itself. I am grateful to U.S. Attorney Jason Quiñones, his entire trial team, and our law enforcement partners for protecting President Trump and securing this important verdict.”

Trump took to Truth Social to congratulate Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche.

“Congratulations to Attorney General Pam Bondi, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, and the entire DOJ team on the conviction, in Florida, of the person who attempted an assassination on my life. The trial was meticulously handled, and I would like to thank the Judge and Jury for their time, professionalism, and patience. This was an evil man with an evil intention, and they caught him,” Trump wrote. “I would also like to thank the Secret Service, Department of Florida Law Enforcement, and the wonderful person who spotted him running from the site of the crime, and acted by following him, and getting all information on car type and license plate to the Sheriff’s Office, IMMEDIATELY, which led to his arrest and conviction. What incredible instinct and foresight this person had — A very big moment for JUSTICE IN AMERICA!”

Trump, who was in New York City attending Tuesday’s United Nations General Assembly when the verdict was announced, told reporters he was “very appreciative” of the justice that was given and the way it was handled by the Justice Department.

“Everybody involved, along with their team of people, handled it really well, and it was very important,” he said. “You can’t let things like that happen. It’s not just about me — it’s about protecting any president, or even any person.”

“You can’t allow that to happen. And so justice was served, and we’ll see what happens,” he added. “But I very much appreciate the judge and jury and everybody on that. It was so professionally handled, and it’s a great honor.”

  • Man who attempted to assassinate Kavanaugh now identifies as a woman

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

A man who pleaded guilty to attempting to kill Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh in 2022 is now using a female name and pronouns, according to a court document filed Friday.

Nicholas Roske, who is scheduled to be sentenced next month, is using the name Sophie Roske and a “Ms.” title for the first time in a court filing in a case that has stretched for three years.

The court filing was a routine request in anticipation of Roske’s sentencing, which is set for Oct. 3. But the filing referenced Roske by the name “Sophia,” while a footnote revealed that Nicholas remains Roske’s legal first name.

“Out of respect for Ms. Roske, the balance of this pleading and counsel’s in-court argument will refer to her as Sophie and use female pronouns,” the footnote stated.

Roske arrived at Kavanaugh’s house June 8, 2022, with a pistol, ammunition, a knife, a crowbar and tactical gear. Roske eventually called 9-1-1 and turned himself in after receiving a call from his sister and observing U.S. marshals in front of the justice’s house.

The incident occurred just two weeks before the Supreme Court handed down its landmark decision overturning Roe v. Wade, an expected decision that had drawn protesters to the Supreme Court building and conservative justices’ houses for weeks leading up to it.

The Department of Justice is seeking a 30-year sentence. In a sentencing memorandum, prosecutors referenced “mental health issues” the defendant has had for about a decade that included thoughts of violently murdering his sister. He has received treatment for the issues, specifics of which were not included in the memorandum.

“While the defendant has mental health issues, those issues do not detract from the gravity of the defendant’s crime: the defendant researched and targeted multiple members of the judiciary, and intended to alter the composition of the Supreme Court for ideological reasons,” prosecutors wrote.

The revelation of the gender label switch comes as the DOJ has internally discussed concerns with transgender people owning guns and as conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s alleged assassin, Tyler Robinson, was discovered to have been in a romantic relationship with a transgender person. While the investigation remains open and authorities are still developing an understanding of the motive, authorities have said Robinson felt Kirk spread hate, which drove him to carry out the killing.

AIRLINES SECRETLY SOLD US TRAVELERS’ DATA TO HOMELAND SECURITY

Luggage tag scam explained and how to avoid it

An alleged baggage claims manager at Delta Air Lines has warned travelers about a growing scam that uses discarded luggage tags to commit fraud.

In a Reddit post that has since drawn thousands of comments, the worker claimed scammers are watching passengers remove their tags at baggage claim and retrieving them to submit fake claims for lost luggage. The tags often contain enough personal and travel information to file for reimbursement.

A baggage claim manager alleges that scammers are stealing travelers’ information from old bag tags. (iStock)

“There’s been an influx of fraudulent claims using tossed luggage tags,” the worker wrote. “It’s creating issues for people with legitimate claims.”

The post advises waiting until you are away from the airport before removing tags from checked bags and avoiding leaving them in hotel trash cans. Former hotel staff commenting on the post said they had seen similar fraud schemes involving tags found in guest rooms.

Travelers responding to the warning also noted that printed boarding passes can be exploited in the same way, and shared examples of airports, such as in Japan, that provide secure disposal bins for tags.

How serious is the luggage tag scam threat?

The luggage tag scam is a documented and growing problem in 2025, with airport workers, especially baggage claims staff at major airlines, reporting a surge in fraudulent lost luggage claims tied to discarded tags.

Multiple firsthand accounts confirm that processing legitimate compensation is being complicated by false claims using details found on bag tags. However, travel security experts and industry observers note that, while cases are increasing, the scam may not be extremely widespread or high-volume at this time.

Most tags only contain limited information, such as name, flight number and baggage IDs, and airlines’ tracking systems can sometimes detect if a claim is fake by reviewing baggage scan logs and RFID tagging. There are also no official warnings or statistics from major airlines, government authorities or law enforcement indicating this technique has reached epidemic levels or led to confirmed prosecutions.

7 ways to stay safe from the luggage tag scam

The luggage tag scam might not sound like the most dangerous travel threat, but ignoring it can still leave you exposed to fraud. Here are simple, effective steps to protect yourself.

    1) Remove tags only after leaving the airport

Wait until you’re at home, in your car or in another private location before taking tags off your checked bags. This prevents scammers from grabbing them in public areas.

    2) Shred or destroy old tags

Never toss tags in the trash intact. Tear them up or cut through barcodes and printed details so they can’t be reused for fake claims.

    3) Avoid leaving tags in hotel rooms

Dispose of tags yourself instead of leaving them in a hotel wastebasket. Cleaning staff or other guests could find and misuse them.

    4) Secure boarding passes too

Treat printed boarding passes the same way as luggage tags. Keep them until you can destroy them securely.

    5) Be alert in baggage claim areas

Watch for anyone loitering near the carousel and observing passengers closely. Stay aware of your surroundings while handling travel documents.

    6) Use digital boarding passes when possible

Opt for mobile boarding passes instead of printed ones. This removes the risk of discarded paper passes falling into the wrong hands.

    7) Limit personal details on luggage tags

Avoid printing your full home address or primary phone number. Instead, use your name, a travel-only email and either a P.O. box or work address. You can even create a simple alias email just for travel, which forwards to your main inbox but keeps your real address private. This way, airlines and honest finders can still reach you without exposing sensitive personal details to scammers.

For recommendations on private and secure email providers that offer alias addresses, visit Cyberguy.com.

    8) Track Your Bags with AirTags

Another way to protect yourself is by putting a small tracker inside your luggage, such as an Apple AirTag or a similar Bluetooth tracker. These devices connect to your phone and let you see where your bag is in near real-time. If your suitcase goes missing or ends up in the wrong place, you’ll know faster than waiting for the airline to track it down.

Place the tracker inside your bag rather than on the handle so it can’t be easily removed. Check its location through your phone before leaving the airport, and keep an eye on it during layovers. While AirTags can’t prevent someone from misusing an old luggage tag, they give you proof of where your bag actually is if you ever need to dispute a lost luggage claim or theft

    Kurt’s key takeaway

While the luggage tag scam may not be widespread yet, it exploits a simple oversight that most travelers rarely consider. • Congress to hold crime hearing in Charlotte following deadly light rail attack

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

FIRST ON FOX: The House Judiciary Committee plans to hold a field hearing in Charlotte, North Carolina, this month following the fatal stabbing of a young woman on the city’s light rail that sparked heated debate about criminal justice reform.

The remote hearing is scheduled for the morning of Sept. 29, Fox News Digital has learned, and will highlight recent criminal activity in Charlotte.

News of the hearing comes after Iryna Zarutska’s murder on Aug. 22 captured national attention. Chilling surveillance footage showed a suspect who was sitting behind Zarutska stand up and strike her with a pocket knife several times. Zarutska, a 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee who was on her way home from work at the time of the incident, died on the train from her injuries, authorities said.

The Department of Justice charged the suspect, Decarlos Dejuan Brown Jr., in federal court. Brown had prior arrests dating back more than a decade and once served time for a robbery. Attorney General Pam Bondi said Brown will be prosecuted for murder and said “soft-on-crime policies” caused Zarutska’s death.

“Iryna Zarutska was a young woman living the American dream — her horrific murder is a direct result of failed soft-on-crime policies that put criminals before innocent people,” Bondi said. “I have directed my attorneys to federally prosecute Decarlos Brown Jr., a repeat violent offender with a history of violent crime, for murder.”

All House Judiciary Committee members are able to attend the hearing. The panel’s subcommittee on oversight will lead it.

The hearing was scheduled prior to another shocking crime event — the assassination of prolific conservative activist Charlie Kirk, which took place at Utah Valley University last week.

The field hearing marks the latest instance of the committee visiting Democrat-led cities to highlight grim crime rates and prosecutorial failures. The committee visited Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s jurisdiction in April 2023, a week after Bragg brought criminal charges against then-former President Donald Trump. The committee held a similar hearing in Chicago later that year.

Lawmakers at the hearings have examined prosecutorial policies, such as cashless bail, and highlighted recidivism and stories from victims and their families.

Charging and trying defendants in Charlotte comes under the purview of Mecklenburg County District Attorney Spencer B. Merriweather III, an appointee of North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, a Democrat.

Rep. Jeff Van Drew, R-N.J., confirmed the hearing in a statement to Fox News Digital, saying Zarutska’s death was a “culmination of years of failed liberal policies that put criminals ahead of victims.”

“This was entirely preventable, and we owe it to the people to fix it before another innocent life is lost,” Van Drew said.

Fox News Digital reached out to Merriweather’s office for comment.

  • Why blaming ‘the left’ is easier than deterring violence after Charlie Kirk’s murder

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

President Donald Trump is rejecting suggestions that right-wing extremism is a problem.

“Well, the problem is on the left,” Trump told reporters outside Air Force One.

“The problem is on the left if you look at the problem — it’s not on the right like some people like to say, on the right. The problem we have is on the left. When you look at the agitators, you look at the scum that speaks so badly of our country, the American flag burnings all over the place, that’s the left, that’s not the right.”

CHARLIE KIRK’S ALLEGED ASSASSIN ‘TAKEN OVER’ BY LEFTIST IDEOLOGY WHILE FBI PROBES WIDER PLOT: BONGINO

One reporter asked whether he planned to investigate.

“They’re already under investigation. They’re already under major investigation. A lot of the people that you would traditionally say are on the left.”

No matter how the question is framed, Trump sticks to his partisan analysis, as he did on “Fox & Friends”: “Radicals on the left are the problem. and they are vicious and horrible and politically savvy. They want men in women’s sports, they want transgender for everyone, open borders.”

The contrast with Utah’s Republican governor, Spencer Cox, could not be starker.

Cox, who made the Sunday show rounds, says the country has to find an off-ramp from the current surge in political violence in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s murder.  There has to be a way to lower the temperature, he said.

Democrats from Barack Obama on down, to their credit, are denouncing the assassination as unacceptable, even if they disagreed with some or all of what Kirk stood for.

What’s striking is the ripple effect on everyone else.

Newsday had to apologize for an abominable cartoon.

The sketch showed an empty chair, with blood behind it, and the repeated phrase “Prove Me Wrong” — a frequent Kirk saying — with an arrow pointing to Turning Point USA.

FROM GRIEF TO GROWTH: TURNING POINT USA BECOMES A RALLYING FORCE FOR GEN Z IN BATTLEGROUND ARIZONA

The Long Island paper called the cartoon “insensitive and offensive…We deeply regret this mistake and sincerely apologize to the family of Charlie Kirk and to all,” saying it’s been deleted online. But how does something that bad get approved?

Fox News, citing 10 sources, said the White House and Pam Bondi have lost confidence in Kash Patel. The FBI director stumbled in announcing that a suspect was in custody, only to see that person released as the wrong man. Patel says his tweet that the “subject” of the shooting was “in custody,” could have “been worded a little better.”

There were warning signs when Missouri’s attorney general was brought in with the same rank as Patel’s deputy, Dan Bongino, and Fox says he made clear he would not have left that job to serve as Patel’s number two.

Kari Lake, who runs the U.S. Agency for Global Media, said at a vigil for Kirk that the college that the accused shooter attended for one semester had “brainwashed” him.

“I am making a plea to mothers,” said Lake, who twice failed in bids for office in Arizona. “Do not send your children into these indoctrination camps.”

Lake added that her daughter didn’t go to college, instead working for Kirk.

Four years ago, the suspect went to Utah State University as a pre-engineering major.

And he was sufficiently, uh, brainwashed in 2021 that he decided to kill Kirk last week?

UTAH PROSECUTORS PREPARE POTENTIAL DEATH PENALTY CASE AGAINST CHARLIE KIRK SUSPECT TYLER JAMES ROBINSON

Look, finger-pointing politics has been going on for a very long time. When President Clinton blamed Rush Limbaugh for the Oklahoma City bombing, I wrote the front-page story. When the New York Times blamed Sarah Palin for the wounding of Gabby Giffords (and the death of six others) – because of a political map with crosshairs that the killer never saw – a top editor told me I was wrong but later admitted I’d been right.

And when the guy who badly wounded Steve Scalise at a Republican baseball practice was revealed to be a regular Rachel Maddow watcher, liberals jumped on that one.

So it is with the 22-year-old Kirk murder suspect and the pointless search for motive.

Is it relevant that the alleged shooter is living with a transgender man who is becoming a woman? Sure. But anyone who would plot to kill Charlie Kirk for political reasons is by definition insane, as are all these nutjob school shooters.

It’s also true, by the way, that the constant attacks on the president — the survivor of two assassination attempts — as Hitler and worse foster an atmosphere in which another attack is more likely.

But wait, there’s a final guilt-by-association maneuver going on.

We see it when Elon Musk immediately tweets “the left is the party of murder.” We see it when Spencer Cox calls social media a “cancer.”

The social media point may well be true, but we can’t put that genie back in the lamp.

By blaming “the left,” the X owner and others are depicting everyone who has liberal viewpoints as culpable, even if they never heard of Charlie Kirk, even if they are shocked and appalled by his murder.

  • Charlie Kirk’s friend urges mourners to ‘go back to church’ following activist’s killing

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Worldwide vigils have taken place following the killing of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk. His close friend Andrew Kolvet, executive producer of “The Charlie Kirk Show” podcast, is urging mourners to remember him as he believes Kirk would have wanted.

“I want Charlie to be remembered for his great faith because that’s how he wanted to be remembered, for his courage and his faith,” Kolvet said Sunday on “Sunday Morning Futures.”

Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA, was shot and killed Wednesday on a Utah college campus. He leaves behind his wife Erika and two young children.

Much of his work focused on reviving what he saw as the traditional American family, a mission rooted in his Christian faith

Kolvet urged supporters to channel their grief into that same commitment.

“If you [want to] honor Charlie today, it is Sunday… go back to church, open your Bible, pray, ask God to lead you. That’s what he wanted,” he said.

Vigils for Kirk have sprung up across the country, including at Turning Point USA campus chapters, on Capitol Hill, and even overseas. Demonstrators at a previously scheduled march in London carried pictures and banners of Kirk.

Kolvet said the worldwide response since Kirk’s death reflects his message’s authenticity.

“The reason he resonated, I believe, so widely and so broadly across the world… is because he himself was good. A message sown across the world out of a place of integrity and honesty and decency,” said Kolvet.

“You can’t emulate that. You can fake that. And it comes through. People can see just how straightforward and honest and good he was.”

Kolvet said the peaceful nature of the memorials have been especially meaningful to Kirk’s family, staff, and friends.

“The people that loved him most, they’re not rioting. They’re not burning down cities or businesses. They are praying, they’re lighting candles in his honor, and they’re expressing the grief that they feel, that we all feel, in their own way,” he said.

  • Turning Point USA says campus chapter requests surge to over 32,000 after Kirk’s assassination

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Turning Point USA has seen a massive surge in inquiries for new college chapters as the organization works to advance Charlie Kirk’s vision following his assassination last week.

Andrew Kolvet, executive producer of “The Charlie Kirk Show,” said Sunday that, in the past 48 hours, Turning Point USA (TPUSA) has received more than 32,000 inquiries from people wanting to start new campus chapters.

“To put that in perspective, TPUSA currently has 900 official college chapters and around 1,200 high school chapters, with a presence of 3,500 total,” Kolvet, who is also a TPUSA spokesman, wrote on X.

“Charlie’s vision to have a Club America chapter (our high school brand) in every high school in America (around 23,000) will come true much, much faster than he could have ever possibly imagined,” Kolvet added, calling the response to expand Kirk’s mission “truly incredible.”

In a separate post, Kolvet wrote, “This is the Turning Point.”

Kirk was assassinated during an outdoor event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday afternoon. The event was the first in what was supposed to be a series called “American Comeback Tour.”

Kirk, the charismatic 31-year-old founder of the conservative youth activist group, gained recognition for his signature political debates on college campuses.

On Thursday evening, the second family escorted Kirk’s casket and family from Utah to their home state of Arizona on Air Force Two. A video of the moment showed his wife, Erika Kirk, visibly emotional on the tarmac as the casket passed before her. The couple have two young children.

Kirk’s celebration of life ceremony is scheduled for next Sunday at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz

President Donald Trump said he will attend Kirk’s funeral.

On Friday evening, Kirk’s widow galvanized the TPUSA movement and vowed to carry on her husband’s mission.

“To everyone listening tonight across America, the movement my husband built will not die,” Kirk said. “I refuse to let that happen. No one will ever forget my husband’s name. And I will make sure of it. It will become stronger. Bolder. Louder and greater than ever,” Kirk said.

She also said that TPUSA’s annual “AmericaFest” conference in Phoenix this December will continue as scheduled.

Turning Point’s not going anywhere. Turning Point, I think, will probably actually get significantly larger in the wake of what happened to Charlie,” he told Fox News Digital in an interview on Saturday. “You couldn’t do youth politics in Arizona, really anywhere in the United States without coming across Charlie Kirk.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if they’ve woken up a sleeping giant.”

  • Montana GOP Rep Ryan Zinke calls assassination of Charlie Kirk a ‘watershed moment’

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Rep. Ryan Zinke, R-Mont., said the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk was a “watershed moment,” stressing that Americans should be able to have political disagreements without engaging in violence.

Zinke made the comments on Friday during an appearance on NewsNation’s show “The Hill,” when he cited earlier remarks by Utah Gov. Spencer Cox as he expressed disappointment that differences in political viewpoints have led to violent attacks.

“We should look and reflect,” Zinke said on Friday. “This is, you know, as the governor pointed out, a watershed moment. So, the watershed moment depends on what this country does.”

“Are we going to continue this?” the congressman continued. “Are we going to continue to not be able to have dialogue and talk to your neighbor?”

Kirk, the 31-year-old co-founder of Turning Point USA, was assassinated by a gunman on the campus of Utah Valley University on Wednesday afternoon. He was transported to a hospital in critical condition before he was later pronounced dead.

The alleged gunman was identified as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, whose family persuaded him to turn himself in after a multi-day manhunt.

During a news conference on Friday, Cox called for civility and for people on both sides of the political aisle to de-escalate and to step away from political frustrations and “choose a different path.”

“This is our moment: Do we escalate, or do we find an off-ramp? It’s a choice,” Cox said.

“For the last 48 hours, I have been as angry as I have ever been, as sad as I have ever been … and as anger pushed me to the brink, it was actually Charlie’s words that pushed me back. Charlie said, ‘When people stop talking, that’s when you get violence,’” Cox added.

Zinke similarly urged people to engage in political dialogue without turning to violence. He also said statements he has seen on social media were “disheartening” after recent instances of political violence this year.

“You see, you know, an assassination attempt,” Zinke said on Friday. “You see a political assassination in Minnesota. You see one with Charlie Kirk. You know a father. You know a great patriot, a loving husband. You know, assassinated. And ironically, his assassination was over his message, which was, ‘Let’s have a dialogue. Let’s talk.’”

“In our country, the strength is that, you know, we may agree or disagree, but disagreement should never result in violence,” he continued.

Zinke referenced an incident in June for which Vance Boelter was charged with killing former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman, a Democrat, her husband, Mark, and their dog at their home in Minneapolis.

Boelter was also charged with shooting Minnesota state Sen. John Hoffman, also a Democrat, and his wife, Yvette, and for attempting to shoot their daughter, Hope.

Other acts of political violence in recent years include President Donald Trump surviving assassination attempts last year and Paul Pelosi, the husband of Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., being attacked with a hammer in 2022.

Zinke’s office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

  • Utah students lift voices in prayer at vigil for Charlie Kirk’s Christian legacy: ‘Felt called by God’

Hundreds of Utah State University students still reeling from the assassination of Charlie Kirk came together at a tearful vigil hosted by the campus’ Turning Point USA chapter on Friday night.

“We just want to have our community come together in this really dark time,” Kaitlyn Griffiths, president of the school’s chapter, told Fox News Digital at the emotional and faithful tribute to the late conservative activist. “Especially something that happened so close to home for us. And we want to be able to gather and celebrate this man’s life.”

The somber vigil comes two days after Kirk, the 31-year-old co-founder of the conservative student program Turning Point USA, was fatally shot while speaking at Utah Valley University, the first stop on TPUSA’s The American Comeback Tour.

A heavy police presence was seen throughout the university as hundreds of mourners filled the campus to pay tribute to Kirk, with the vigil including prayers from the student body and a moving film featuring key moments in his career.

“I’m a Christian,” Griffiths said. “I believe that Jesus Christ died for us, and Charlie Kirk believed in the same things. The thing that he always said he wanted to be remembered [for] was his courage and his faith, so we’re trying to focus our event tonight on celebrating his faith, and the man that he was, and how strongly and harshly he worked for the things that he cared for.”

USU student Travis Ferraro echoed the same sentiments surrounding his Christian faith while attending the candlelight vigil, hosted on the campus’ quad.

On Friday, authorities announced the arrest of 22-year-old Tyler Robinson in connection with Kirk’s murder. Robinson was taken into custody after a family member notified a friend that he admitted to the killing, Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said in a news conference.

However, Kirk remained at the forefront of mourners’ minds as students came together to celebrate his life and legacy while the sun set on USU’s campus.

I don’t think there’s anyone else on this earth like him.”

Rasmussen went on to describe how Kirk impacted both her political and religious views.

“Just him going around and preaching that the Bible is the way, and that you just have to believe in God and be faithful,” Rasmussen told Fox News Digital. “His faith was [unwavering], and that is what I really just want to carry along throughout the rest of my life as well.”

  • Utah Gov. Cox warns against conspiracy theories, slams ‘ugly’ online reaction to Charlie Kirk assassination

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Utah Governor Spencer Cox on Friday condemned the “ugly” and “dark” celebrations of Charlie Kirk’s assassination, noting that hundreds of leaders across party lines had reached out to him to express their sadness and disgust over the fatal shooting.

Cox — in an appearance on Fox News’ ‘Special Report’ on Friday afternoon — discussed the ongoing investigation into Kirk’s murder. The conservative activist was fatally shot during a campus event in Utah on Wednesday. Authorities have since arrested 33-year-old Tyler Robinson as the suspected killer, who is believed to have acted alone, Cox said.

WHO IS TYLER ROBINSON? WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT CHARLIE KIRK’S SUSPECTED ASSASSIN

“The investigation is ongoing,” Cox said. “They’re still following every lead. … But every piece of evidence we have so far makes it very clear that the assassin acted alone.”

Cox urged Americans to reject the cycle of political violence and noted that hundreds of Democratic officials had reached out to him to express their ‘true sadness’ and disgust at the attack. He also warned against conspiracy theories spreading online and called celebratory reactions to Kirk’s death “so ugly and so dark.”

“Those violent images that we saw are just terrible,” Cox said. “We’re not conditioned for that type of information. … We’ve lost too much of our humanity, and it happens in those dark corners of social media. … We just have to find a way to disconnect from that.”

CHARLIE KIRK’S STRONG STANCE ON DEATH PENALTY RESURFACES AFTER UTAH ASSASSINATION

CHARLIE KIRK ASSASSINATION: TIMELINE OF UTAH CAMPUS SHOOTING DETAILS ATTACK, MANHUNT FOR SUSPECT

While the investigation remains ongoing, Cox said authorities believe the shooter carried the rifle onto the rooftop before the attack rather than assembling it there. After the shooting, Robinson allegedly tried to hide the weapon in the woods wrapped in a towel, where police recovered it later that evening.

When asked about the video in which the suspect appeared to be walking with a limp, Cox said it was a “very distinct possibility” that the rifle had been concealed in his clothing. Evidence — including the round that struck Kirk — is still being processed, he said.

Cox also reaffirmed that Utah prosecutors will pursue the death penalty if Robinson is convicted, noting that he believes Kirk’s family should be central in the legal process.

“What I will also say is that we believe very strongly that the victims need to play a role in these conversations,” he said. “I want to make sure that in these conversations it’s not about me, it really is about the Kirk family — Erica, and their kids, and Charlie’s parents, his sister — all of the family,”

Ana Walshe, a mother of three young children and a real estate professional who worked in Washington, D.C., disappeared on New Year’s Day 2023 and was reported missing a few days later. Her body has never been recovered.

Brian Walshe was captured on Home Depot surveillance video buying various items, including three mops and brushes, two splash-resistant goggles and a utility knife. Investigators believe he used the items to dispose of his wife’s body.

During the search for Ana, investigators found a hacksaw with a “small bone fragment” in a dumpster across the street from Walshe’s mother’s house. In the days after his wife’s disappearance, Walshe allegedly used his son’s iPad to make over a dozen Google searches about how to discard a body, prosecutors said.

Before the disappearance, Walshe hired a private investigator because he suspected his wife was cheating on him.

At the time, the couple’s marriage was on the rocks because of Brian’s unrelated legal troubles. He had been house arrest as part of his pre-sentencing probation for selling fake Andy Warhol paintings, according to prosecutors.

Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said on Thursday that officials have received more than 7,000 digital tips and leads in connection with the shooting death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, which he noted is the most since the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing.

Kirk, the 31-year-old co-founder of Turning Point USA, was shot and killed on the campus of Utah Valley University on Wednesday afternoon. He was transported to a hospital in critical condition before he was later pronounced dead.

A massive manhunt is underway for the suspect, who has not been identified.

“We cannot do our job without the public’s help right now. The public has answered our call for action. So far, we’ve received more than 7,000 leads and tips,” Cox said at a news briefing, adding that he is hopeful that newly released photos and video will lead to additional tips.

The governor also said nearly 200 interviews have been conducted, as officials continue to search for the shooter.

State officials are moving to pursue the death penalty if the case goes to trial, Cox said.

The FBI is offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to the identification and arrest of the person responsible for murdering Kirk.

The agency also released new video Thursday night showing the shooter climbing down from the roof of a building on the campus of Utah Valley University before fleeing the scene.

Video was also shared by a homeowner in the area after the person of interest was seen in their neighborhood after the shooting took place.

Upon arriving in Phoenix, Frantzve deplaned Air Force Two while holding the hand of second lady Usha Vance. His casket was transported to Hansen Memorial Chapel. Kirk will be buried in Arizona and President Donald Trump said he will attend the funeral.

Trump told reporters on Thursday evening that he believed that Kirk’s funeral would be held “next weekend” adding that he would attend.

The revelation comes as federal authorities continue to search for the suspect that assassinated Kirk during an outdoor event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday afternoon.

Wednesday’s event, the first in what was supposed to be a series Turning Point USA’s “American Comeback Tour,” was nothing out of the ordinary. Kirk, the charismatic founder of the nation’s conservative youth activist group, gained recognition for his signature political debates on college campuses.

During a press conference on Thursday, authorities say the suspect “blended in well with a college institution.” In a photo later released by law enforcement, the individual is seen wearing a hat, sunglasses, and an American flag T-shirt with an eagle on it.

The FBI appealed for more public tips, photos, and videos to help piece together the string of events that led to Kirk’s death.

“We truly rely on the public’s help in these types of cases. No tip is too small or too insignificant,” FBI Special Agent in Charge Robert Bohls said Thursday.

  • Pam Bondi says death penalty a possibility for Iryna Zarutska killer

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Following President Donald Trump’s call for swift action, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi shared that the Justice Department may seek the death penalty for Iryna Zarutska’s killer.

Speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Bondi shared that Zarutska’s alleged murderer, Decarlos Brown Jr., has been arrested and that he is being charged federally.

“We have arrested him. We are charging him federally because it was a murder on mass transit,” said Bondi.

“This young woman died a horrific, horrific death, as we all saw, captured on video,” she went on, adding, “It was horrible.”

AG PAM BONDI: WE WON’T LET A PROGRESSIVE DA GET THIS CASE

“The steps are, we charge, then we indict. Then, legally, we make the decision whether or not to seek the death penalty. That is certainly on the table once he is indicted for this horrific crime,” explained Bondi.

Zarutska, a 23-year-old refugee from Ukraine, was stabbed to death while riding a light rail train in Charlotte. The stabbing, captured on video, took place on Aug. 22 at around 10:30 p.m. as Zarutska was on her way home from work at a pizza restaurant. Still in her uniform, Zarutska sat down in front of a man, later identified as Brown, wearing a red hoodie. Moments later, the man pulled out a knife and stabbed her to death, with several bystanders looking on.

Brown, 34, was arrested shortly after the incident and hospitalized before being charged with first-degree murder. Police confirmed that Brown and Zarutska did not know one another.

Court records, previously reported by Fox News Digital, show Brown has a history of arrests dating back to 2011, including charges of felony larceny, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and communicating threats. Most charges were later dropped.

On Tuesday, Trump called for the government to respond to the spate of killings in the U.S. with decisive action, saying, “We have to be vicious just like they are.”

He blamed Democratic leaders in major American cities for adopting “catch and release” policies “for thugs and killers.”

“In Charlotte, North Carolina, we saw the results of these policies when a 23-year-old woman who came here from Ukraine met her bloody end on a public train,” said the president. “She was slaughtered by a deranged monster who was roaming free after 14 prior arrests.”

A North Dakota State University football player has been kicked off the team after authorities say he allegedly swiped a duffel bag containing more than $270,000 worth of luxury items on Fourth of July weekend in Minnesota.

William Frattalone, 20, is charged with one count of felony theft of property valued over $35,000, according to jail records.

According to a criminal complaint, Frattalone is accused of stealing a designer duffel bag from a boat as it was docked at Maynard’s Restaurant on Lake Minnetonka, located approximately 25 miles from Minneapolis, FOX 9 reported

The bag, valued at $2,400, contained a Rolex Cosmograph Daytona Platinum Ice Blue Index Dial watch valued at $228,000, approximately $25,000 worth of limited-edition clothing, a $400 bottle of cologne, between $5,000 to $10,000 in cash and other personal items, according to court documents.

An individual, identified in the complaint as I.B., told authorities he was on the same boat as Frattalone and stored the bag in a sealed cabin before entering the restaurant, the outlet reported. When the group returned, the bag was reportedly gone.

The complaint alleges an employee witnessed Frattalone attempting to carry a large bag through the dining room, which was against their policy, and escorted him from the restaurant.

When the group noticed the bag was missing, another passenger contacted Frattalone, who allegedly replied that his “parents were wealthy and would write a check for whatever was inside the bag,” according to FOX 9.

Authorities subsequently executed a search warrant at Frattalone’s nearby home in Wayzata and allegedly located the bag in his bedroom, but were unable to recover the Rolex watch. Video footage from Frattalone’s cell phone also allegedly places him on the boat the night of the theft, the complaint said.

Frattalone was arrested on Aug. 1 and released from the Hennepin County Jail on Aug. 4, according to court records. Following his arrest, he was dismissed from the North Dakota State University football team in early August, according to FOX 9.
