Ethan and Maya Hawke Cover Willie Nelson’s “We Don’t Run”

Ethan Hawke and Maya Hawke, the father-daughter actor and musician duo, have shared a new Christian Lee Hutson-assisted cover of the Willie Nelson song “We Don’t Run.” It appears on Light in the Attic & Friends, a Record Store Day Black Friday compilation (November 24) featuring covers of songs released on the storied reissue label. “This song is off Willie’s brilliant album Spirit, which has been a mainstay in our home since it was released in 1996,” Ethan Hawke said in a statement. “Everybody needs a good anthem song. This is one of the best.” Check it out below.

The compilation includes several new recordings, including Vashti Bunyan and Devendra Banhart doing “How Could You Let Me Go” by Lynn Castle, Roedelius doing a Tinariwen song, Mary Lattimore’s cover of Hiroshi Yoshimura’s “Blink,” and Steve Gunn with Bridget St. John tackling Michael Chapman’s “Rabbit Hills.” There’s a supergroup of sorts doing the Louvin Brothers’ “Kneeling Drunkard’s Plea”: Swamp Dogg, Tim Heidecker, John C. Reilly, and Jenny Lewis. It also includes previously released recordings from Iggy Pop with Zig Zags, Mac DeMarco, Angel Olsen, Charles Bradley, Badbadnotgood, and the late Mark Lanegan.

Only Kendall Jenner Could Pull Off Wearing Sequin Underwear Over Sheer Tights

Kendall Jenner’s evolution from reality TV star on The Kardashians to one of the most sought-after models in the fashion industry is evident from her Harper’s Bazaar September 2023 cover. As part of the historic publication’s Icons portfolio that spotlights game-changers who are reshaping the culture (like Doja Cat and Teyana Taylor), Jenner proves she’s made a name for herself outside of the Kardashian noise. She’s FWRD’s creative director, 818 Tequila founder, Calvin Klein campaign star, and, as mom Kris states to Bazaar, “Her superpower is knowing when it’s too much or when it’s not enough.”

The 27-year-old embodies that notion with her cover look, styled by Beat Bolliger. It’s got all the standard components of a typical outfit — except pants. Casually nailing the Hollywood-famous no-pants trend, Jenner models her sequin gold Miu Miu briefs over sheer black tights, finished with a nude knit turtleneck and slingback kitten heels. Her accessories include a gold cuff necklace and a thick watch from Panthère de Cartier. She rocks natural makeup, and her hair is styled into her signature slicked-back bun. She also wears additional looks, from an all-burgundy parka, bodysuit, and leather skirt by Marc Jacobs to a denim-on-denim Dior ensemble that features an oversize jacket, pants, black butterfly belt, and silver Cartier jewelry.

During her interview, Jenner touches heavily on her self-growth journey, having been in therapy for almost two years. “I meet with my therapist once a week, so every week I’m learning something new. I’m constantly evolving and just excited to do that,” she tells the publication. And while she’s no longer hiding in the shadows of her older sisters Kim, Kourtney, and Khloé, the young star credits her family for her solid identity. “I feel like I am coming into my womanhood…and having so many strong women around me has helped shape my sense of worth.”

As someone known for pushing bold trends, this isn’t the first time Jenner has gone pants-less. For the 2023 Met Gala, she famously wore a high-cut sequin bodysuit with dramatic sleeves by Marc Jacobs. She’s also developed an affinity for naked dresses and thong-inspired pieces — especially thongkini swimsuits. Most recently, Jenner’s enjoyed a style streak with boyfriend Bad Bunny, as the duo coordinate their outfits on many occasions. They wore matching snakeskin boots at a Lakers game and all-black leather outfits for a date night in May.

Sydney Sweeney Bares Major Hip Cleavage in a Plunging Barbie-Pink Swimsuit

Sydney Sweeney fronts Variety’s 2023 Power of Young Hollywood issue in a plunging vintage Guess swimsuit, dripping in gold Versace jewelry, while licking an ice cream cone. The look is perfectly fitting with her sultry sense of style, which is further emphasized with her interior shots, all lensed by Eric Ray Davidson. Described as a “’90s-throwback magazine queen, channeling the glory days of Cosmo cover girls,” the 25-year-old “Anyone But You” actress and executive producer also models a Barbiecore-pink vintage Versace swimsuit with a large side cutout, baring major hip cleavage on an ice sculpture. Her logofied platform mules to match her magenta chrome nails (painted by Zola Ganzorigt) are like the icing on the cake.

Sweeney’s go-to glam squad helped style the shoot, including Molly Dickson on wardrobe duty; Glen Oropeza, who blew out her dirty-blond hair into bombshell waves; and Melissa Hernandez, who employed Edie Sedgwick-inspired baby-doll eyes with thick liner, along with playful pink lips in various shades. Sweeney also wears a lavender wraparound skirt set with ab-baring cutouts (also vintage Versace, sourced from Opulent Addict), teamed with chunky Stuart Weitzman iridescent mules that are thick as a pair of bricks.

“I find power in my femininity. I use my brain, and I use everything that I’m learning every single day in this industry as my power,” she says when discussing her projects, which include the creation of production company Fifty-Fifty Films with her fiancé Jonathan Davino. She acknowledges the fact that many people will likely always think of her as her “Euphoria” character Cassie Howard: “I don’t think I’ll be able to change it, but I’m glad that people are like, ‘Wow, she can act,’” she says.

Prior to the Variety cover reveal, which she celebrated on Instagram, Sweeney wore Miu Miu on Harper’s Bazaar Australia, continuing her reign as muse for the brand. She also wore cutout leather chaps on set of a music video; nailed the boob window cutout trend in a brown satin gown while vacationing in Ibiza with Izabel Goulart; and channeled “Euphoria”‘s Howard in a pink miniskirt for a Bai campaign in June.

The 34 Most Memorable Magazine Covers of 2022

This year’s covers saw everything from fashion fantasies and illustrative political statements to career revivals and retirement announcements; from Lizzo in Bad Binch TongTong and Beyoncé in Harris Reed atop a horse to Nicole Kidman in the now-infamous Miu Miu micro set. There were less gray gradient backdrops from Vogue and a lot more color through styling, set design and makeup (not to mention casting), perhaps signifying a shift in direction of fashion’s perspective. It’s fair to say 2022 brought the best of the best from our favorite magazines.

Top Models Clap Back at Lily-Rose Depp’s ‘Nepo Baby’ Comments

Lily-Rose Depp is the latest star to grace Elle’s cover (alongside her co-star, Blackpink’s Jennie Kim), promoting HBO Max’s forthcoming series “The Idol.” In the accompanying story, which has now been widely circulated, Depp shared some thoughts on being called a “nepo baby” — and let’s just say her remarks have sparked some reactions among major fashion-industry figures.

“I’m familiar. The internet seems to care a lot about that kind of stuff,” Depp tells Véronique Hyland in the interview. “People are going to have pre-conceived ideas about you or how you got there, and I can definitely say that nothing is going to get you the part except for being right for the part.”

The 23-year-old then adds: “The internet cares a lot more about who your family is than the people who are casting you in things. Maybe you get your foot in the door, but you still just have your foot in the door. There’s a lot of work that comes after that.”

The term “nepo baby” — short for “nepotism baby” — references the privilege that comes with being part of a wealthy, powerful family. In the past year, Hollywood stars like Maude Apatow and Zoë Kravitz have also been criticized for having their careers easily fed to them from a silver spoon. So have models like Kendall Jenner, Hailey Bieber and Gigi and Bella Hadid.

As is made clear by her name, Depp is the daughter of actors Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis — the latter also a longtime Chanel muse and model. After nabbing a few film roles, Depp has been seen across various magazine covers, music videos and is hounded by paparazzi. She’s now largely regarded for her modeling career, and was even selected by the late Karl Lagerfeld to be Chanel’s ambassador for its Chanel No. 5 fragrance when she was only 17 years old.

Since Depp’s cover story released on Nov. 17, some of the industry’s biggest models have responded with their own perspectives on nepotism and privilege.

Italian model Vittoria Ceretti, who has been in the industry since the age of 14, took to Instagram to share her thoughts.

“Just want to share a thought here because I can,” she began in a now-deleted Instagram Story post. “I bumped into an interview of a so-called ‘nepo baby,’ whatever y’all call it… Yes, I get the whole ‘Im here and I work hard for it,’ but I would really love to see if you would have lasted thru the first five years of my career. Not only being rejected, because I know you have an experience with it and you can tell me your sad little story about it (even if at the end of the day you can still always go cry on your dad’s couch in your villa in Malibu).”

Ceretti, now 24, continued, “You have no fucking idea how much you have to fight to make people respect you. TAKES YEARS. you just get it by free day one.” She finished with, “I know it’s not your fault, but please, appreciate and know the place you came from.”

On Friday morning, Anok Yai also commented on the situation. The Egyptian-born Sudanese-American model recalled the difficult early days of her career on her Instagram Story. “I remember at the beginning of my career…there was this perceived notion that I had an upper hand, [but] I can tell you it was quite the opposite.”

Yai revealed that when she moved to New York, she had only college debt and $30 in her name, and it wasn’t until a photo of her during Howard University’s 2017 Homecoming went viral that her career took off. Even then, she said, she’s had to fight for every single thing.

“Just weeks into my career, my agent sat me down and told me – ‘Everyone thinks you’re rich now so you have to play the part…’ I remember barely being able to afford living in New York but having to budget out flights, hotels and cars for work; taking out loans so I could buy food, drowning in debt, seeing myself on billboards but having a few dollars to my name. I didn’t mind – I wanted to earn my stripes.”

She then added that, “I will see some of you privilege kids stress about not booking a job because of the impact of your career while there are those of us who stress because we don’t know if we’ll be able to take care of our parents this months or put our siblings through school.”

She wrapped up her post by summarizing an unfortunate reality of the modeling industry for many, writing, “What bothers me is when power players in the industry (brands, directors, editors, etc) pretend to be ignorant to that fact…I know you work hard and have your struggles like the rest of us, but goddamn if you only knew the hell we go through to stand in the same room that you were born in.”
