  • Docs: ‘Gang feud’ prompted Lakewood mass shooting

A 17-year-old and a 19-year-old have been arrested as suspects months after seven people were shot at a Lakewood park.

On May 28, shots rang out at Harry Todd Park around 8 p.m.

Officers arrived at a “hectic scene”, with families and individuals running from the park.

Several victims were found at the scene, and others took themselves to the hospital. One of the people taken to the hospital was the 17-year-old suspect.

The victims, ages ranging from 16 to 38, included:

    • A 38-year-old man was shot through the liver (significant damage)

    • A 38-year-old woman was shot in both legs

    • A 17-year-old boy was shot in the shoulder and arm

    • A 20-year-old man was shot in the left cheek

    • A 19-year-old man was shot through the elbow with significant injury

    • A 16-year-old girl was shot in the buttocks

    • A 17-year-old boy was shot in the knee and upper bicep

Through the course of the investigation, two people were identified as suspects.

According to court documents, one of the suspects, the 19-year-old, is a member of the “GHG” (Get Him Gone) street gang, which is associated with “Black Disciples,” also known as BD or “2-4″.

Investigators learned that the 17-year-old’s best friend was killed in a shooting in Tacoma in April, court docs said.

“GHG members live-streamed a planned desecration of the victim’s memorial site, where they were seen kicking and stomping on candles while disparaging the victim’s name,” court documents said.

According to court documents, the 17-year-old later told police that he was at the park hours before the shooting without incident until a large group arrived.

The 19-year-old allegedly challenged the 17-year-old to a fight, which he accepted. However, court documents say the 19-year-old pulled out a handgun and fired at someone in the group.

Detectives believe the 17-year-old was returning fire using a “.9mm semi-automatic handgun modified with a switch, enabling it to fire in fully automatic mode,” court docs said.

“Evidence supports that [the 17-year-old] fired recklessly and indiscriminately to the north and was the only person firing in that direction,” court documents said.

The 17-year-old is facing charges of four counts of first-degree assault and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.

The 19-year-old is facing three counts of first-degree assault.

Both are booked in the Pierce County Jail and are being held on $2 million bail each.

  • ‘You ruined my life:’ Court docs reveal possible motive in Kirkland deadly knife attack

King County prosecutors say a man stabbed two women dozens of times each in retaliation for one reporting that he had allegedly sexually assaulted them.

One of those women died from her injuries.

According to police, the stabbing happened around 11 p.m. Sept. 4 at the Kirkland Heights Apartments on NE 132nd Street.

A woman called 911, saying she and her mother had been stabbed by someone who broke in. The woman said there was “blood every where” and dispatchers heard sounds of someone groaning in pain in the background of the call, according to court documents.

The 54-year-old woman who called 911 was stabbed about 40 times, according to court documents. Her 78-year-old mother was stabbed around 17 times, docs said.

The 78-year-old woman was pronounced dead at Harborview Medical Center.

The woman who called 911 was able to say what sounded like the name “Farvin” to dispatchers.

Investigators were able to quickly pull up previous incidents at that apartment involving a 60-year-old Fardin Salehiyan. In July, there was a domestic violence call involving the 54-year-old and Salehiyan, court documents said.

Snohomish County Sheriff’s deputies were able to find Salehiyan shortly after the stabbing. When they detained him, deputies said he had “obvious blood all over his clothing” and “apparent blood” on his car, according to court docs.

From her hospital bed, the woman who survived the attack spoke with detectives about what happened.

According to court documents, she was watching videos in her room when Salehiyan barged in with a knife. He began stabbing her dozens of times and said: “you can’t call the police. You ruined my life because you called the police,” court documents said.

The day before the knife attack, the woman had come forward to police to report that Salehiyan had allegedly sexually assaulted her, according to court documents. Less than 12 hours before the attack, a detective contacted Salehiyan to tell him of the investigation into the allegations of sexual assault.

When the woman’s mother began screaming during the attack, the victim said Salehiyan went for her next, according to court documents.

“She stated that after Salehiyan said ‘you ruined my life,’ all he said was ‘goodbye,’ and left,” the police report recounts.

The 54-year-old told her brother that Salehiyan had “serious problems” and “was not a stable person,” and that he was dangerous and had threatened her, court documents said. Her brother said she had voiced concerns and wanted to go back to Iran because she did not feel safe with him.

Salehiyan has been charged with first-degree murder and first-degree attempted murder.

Prosecutors asked that bail be set at $10 million “based on the likelihood that the defendant will fail to appear in response to a summons, and the likelihood that he may commit a violent offense.”

Salehiyan has no known criminal history, according to prosecutors.

“Furthermore, there is some evidence that these crimes were committed in an attempt to avoid prosecution on another offense. If the defendant is willing to commit murder in order to avoid facing justice, he would certainly be willing to flee,” court documents said.

Salehiyan is scheduled for arraignment on Sept. 12.

  • ‘U’d never expect it:’ 13-year-old arrested for making threats idolized school shooters online: docs

A Pierce County 13-year-old who was arrested for allegedly making threats posted images online holding several semi-automatic weapons and wrote captions idolizing previous school shooters, according to court documents.

On Sept. 4, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office received a bulletin from the National Sheriff’s Association that was titled: “High Risk Activity Brief: Teenager Likely Located in Washington Has Interest In Mass Shootings, Access to Guns.”

According to the brief, the teen had posted several images of him holding semi-automatic weapons on social media. Most of the photos had troubling captions like “U’d never expect it” and one that translated from Latin to “day of wrath,” court documents said.

Many of the photos of the weapons were taken with an open safe in the background, which appeared to have been taken in his parents’ bedroom, court docs said.

Court documents said that several of his posts had him wearing outfits that paid homage to previous school shooters, particularly one of the Columbine killers.

“when i turn 21 iam [sic] going to kill people.” “its over! my time is almost hear! f** you all!! Muahahaha I hope I kill you all,” an abbrevation of the posts said, according to court documents.

In a post on Tumblr, he allegedly said: “if i was brain dead and I did ”it,” i can confidently say Columbiner girls would find be extremely attractive due to my 20 inch forehead.”

KIRO 7 has written the texts as they were depicted in the court documents.

Many of the teen’s posts showed fascination of recent school shootings and mass casualty attacks across the country, court documents said.

KIRO 7 is not naming the teen because he is currently being charged as a juvenile.

When deputies searched the teen’s home, they found both secured and unsecured handguns and semi-automatic weapons, according to court documents.

Deputies also found a “go bag” with ammo and several fireworks, smoke grenades and bottle rockets, and several ammo magazines in his bedroom, court documents detail.

Investigators spoke with his parents while SWAT raided the home. His mother said she knew her son used fireworks in the past and made his own. She recalled hearing “crackling” sounds, court documents said.

According to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, it’s unclear if the teen was planning on targeting a school, the Washington State Fair, or some other public event.

The teen was arrested on Sept. 6 around 1 a.m.

He was booked into Remann Hall Juvenile Detention Center for attempted threat to bomb or injure, three counts of second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of fireworks.

“There is enough evidence to show that we have stopped something very serious from happening,” said Deputy Carly Cappetto with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office over the weekend.

It’s unclear if his parents will face charges.

The sheriff’s office said the juvenile was last enrolled in the Franklin Pierce School District in 2021 but is not currently enrolled in any school district.

The Franklin Pierce School District responded to KIRO 7 in a statement:

“This person was not currently enrolled in Franklin Pierce Schools, but did attend one of our schools prior to 2021. We continue to work with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office to ensure that this individual is not a threat to our schools or our community as a whole.

  • Man facing attempted murder charges for alleged beating of 2 Edmonds spa employees

An Edmonds man is now facing charges of attempted murder and unlawful imprisonment after being accused of a vicious attack on two women at a spa on Sunday night.

The attack happened at Eva Spa Massage on Edmonds Way.

According to court documents, the 48-year-old is said to have barged in, locked the door behind him, and started punching two women, both masseuses.

“The suspect used a coat hanger, like a floor-standing coat hanger, to violently assault both women. They suffered this attack for several minutes before they were finally able to escape,” said Edmonds Police Commander Josh McClure.

Court documents say that the women left the building, the man continued hitting them, but ran off across the street when he realized someone had called the police.

He was arrested in the Walgreens parking lot.

Police say he was wearing gloves with blood dripping from them and that while they were handcuffing him, he said, “I’m very displeased I didn’t kill those ladies. But I just couldn’t do it. I didn’t even bring a blade.”

Matt Case says he started coming to the spa for therapy about a month ago after a car crash.

“When I heard about this in my neighborhood, it really hurt my heart, and I know how much these ladies have helped me, and they care. So yeah, it’s sad and tragic that something like this would happen – just hope they’re going to be okay,” said Case.

The suspect refused to make a first appearance in court on Monday afternoon.

But the judge found probable cause and set bail at $1 million.

“There was a clear intent on his part to carry out this attack against these two people, and we’re continuing to work on the motive as to why,” said McClure.

  • Ex-country club controller accused of theft is still in Mexico. $4 million judgment awaits

The former controller for an Anderson Township country club who is accused of stealing nearly $900,000 in 2023 before fleeing to Mexico, is still wanted in the U.S. and has been ordered along with his wife to pay more than $4 million.

He has been living in Mexico as a temporary resident and helped open a restaurant there, according to the country club’s attorney.

Mexican temporary resident identification card for Kinley Lee.

Kinley Lee, 28, and a woman described in court documents as his wife, 33-year-old Katherine Sulky, are believed to be living on Lake Chapala, about 300 miles west of Mexico City, in a community with other expatriates.

Coldstream Country Club sued Lee and Sulky in December 2023, soon after the alleged theft was discovered. The couple had already fled to Mexico at that point, documents say.

Lee worked for the country club as its controller for less than a year, but during that time, according to court documents, he and Sulky transferred Coldstream’s money to accounts they controlled. A former Coldstream official, in an affidavit, said Lee also “manipulated wage and reimbursement payments to himself,” significantly increasing his salary.

Lee is alleged to have gambled away a lot of the money.

Last year, the Hamilton County judge who is overseeing the civil suit found that Lee and Sulky together stole $871,688 from Coldstream.

Under Ohio law, the country club is owed triple damages for the theft in addition to punitive and other damages, making the total for both Lee and Sulky nearly $4 million. That amount also accrues interest until it’s paid. Lee also has been ordered to pay a separate $79,000 judgement.

    Who is Kinley Lee?

Lee, a native of Clyde, Texas, attended the University of Arkansas at Monticello and was a star golfer there, according to the university’s website. He was scheduled to graduate in 2019.

He began his job as controller for Coldstream in February 2023. His annual salary was $95,000.

Because of his job, he had complete access to the country club’s financial information, bank accounts as well as a country club Visa card.

The former Coldstream official also said in the affidavit that Lee gave Sulky access to the club’s financial information and that Sulky spent “a lot of time” in his office.

The affidavit says the couple bought a 2022 Kia SUV for nearly $50,000 using a cashier’s check. Nearly all of the money in the account had been stolen from Coldstream, according to the affidavit.

Lee and Sulky took the SUV as well as a 2012 Mercedes-Benz to Mexico, according to the affidavit.

Court documents say Lee and Sulky carefully planned how they would flee to Mexico with the money they stole from Coldstream, closing all their bank accounts and other financial accounts, as well as selling and transferring assets. He told the country club that he and his wife were vacationing in Mexico.

Their departure was timed to avoid an audit that would have uncovered the theft, the documents say.

The Enquirer reached out to Lee and Sulky through email addresses they previously used. Neither responded.

    ‘He’s never safe’

Christopher McDowell, an attorney for Coldstream, said justice will be served – eventually.

The victim in the case, Coldstream Country Club, is a corporate entity that will exist long into the future.

And the $4 million judgment, with accruing interest, can’t be discharged through bankruptcy, McDowell said.

The arrest warrant for Lee means that if he shows up at port of entry in the U.S., he will be arrested. If Lee is convicted, McDowell said he will ask for a lengthy prison sentence.

“It’s just a matter of time,” McDowell said. “He’s never safe.”
