The search continues for former NFL player Sergio Brown after his mother was found dead with assault injuries near a creek behind her suburban Chicago home, according to the Maywood Police Department.

The body of 73-year-old Myrtle Brown was discovered on Saturday after relatives alerted authorities that they’d been unable to find or contact her or her son, the department said in a news release.

Her death was ruled a homicide, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. It’s unclear what led up to her death and authorities have not provided any information on a possible suspect in the case.

As the investigation continues, the grieving family has asked for help finding Sergio Brown.

“My brother Sergio is still missing,” Nick Brown wrote on Instagram. “If anyone knows where he is I want him to know that I love you and please come home.”

Sergio Brown, 35, played for Notre Dame before signing with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2010. He played seven seasons in the NFL as a member of the Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills.

Here’s what we know about the death investigation and the search for Sergio Brown:

Police found Myrtle Brown’s body near a creek behind her home on Saturday, according to the department.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office determined she had died from injuries related to an assault, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide, according to spokesperson Natalia Derevyanny.

The coroner’s office did not share details on the nature of the mother’s injuries.

Both mother and son reported missing Saturday

Family members of Sergio Brown and his mother told police on Saturday they had been unable to find or contact either of them, according to Maywood police.

“Maywood Police Officers initiated a missing person report and began making attempts to locate both individuals,” police said in a news release.

Relatives were also out looking for Myrtle, neighbor Carlos Cortez told WBBM.

“Her family came and knocked on the door and was looking for her because they put out a police report because she was missing for 72 hours. So, we tried to help them as much as possible,” Cortez said.

Cortez, who said he provided police with his Ring doorbell footage, said he last saw the Browns on Thursday, WBBM reported.

Myrtle Brown, the mother of former NFL player Sergio Brown, was found dead in a creek behind her home outside Chicago. Her death has been ruled a homicide.

Sergio Brown’s brother on Sunday took to Instagram to ask for help in finding him as he thanked community members for the condolences.

“If you have any information on Sergio’s whereabouts please send them to the Maywood Police Department,” Nick Brown said.

Nick Brown asked people to avoid approaching the family’s property as the investigation continues.

The residential street in Maywood – about 11 miles from the heart of Chicago – could be seen in video cordoned off with police tape as officers responded, video from CNN affiliate WBBM shows.

“People, please don’t approach the property, this is still an ongoing investigation by the Maywood Police Department,” he wrote.

Neighbors described Myrtle as a sharp dresser, outgoing person and someone who loved to go dancing.

“Just a lovely lady. Very soft-spoken, outgoing. Always on the go,” neighbor Kevin Grayer told CNN affiliate WLS. “Just a happy person. Her personality was just wonderful.”

“She didn’t deserve that. She was too good of a person to die like that. That’s just sad,” Grayer said.

Her son, Nick Brown, said his last conversation with his mother gave him hope.

“It’s a sad but hopeful time, and we will all get through this together. Mom always told me, ‘tough times don’t last’ and our last conversation about tough times being temporary is my beacon of hope,” he said.

“Mom, thank you for being strong, caring, diligent, fancy, funny, and for saving my art. I won’t let you down.”

     —

New details regarding the death of Takeoff have been revealed as the artist continues to be mourned.

Takeoff, who came to fame as one-third of the platinum-selling rap group Migos, was shot and killed early Tuesday at a private party in Houston, Texas.

    He was 28.

The Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office listed the manner of death as homicide with “penetrating gunshot wounds of head and torso into the arm” stated as the cause of his death.

A 23-year-old man and 24-year-old woman were also injured. Sgt. Michael Arrington of the homicide division told reporters Tuesday that they both were doing ok.

The shooting death of Takeoff, who was known as the quiet, low key member of his group, which included his uncle Quavo, is the latest high profile death of a hip hop artist.

His former group mate and longtime friend Offset has not spoken publicly about Takeoff’s death, but on Wednesday he changed the avatar on his verified Instagram account to a photo of Takeoff with a white heart.

A number of celebrities have paid tribute to the slain artist, including, Drake, Gucci Mane, Machine Gun Kelly and Beyoncé, who changed the landing page of her site to a photo of him.

Takeoff seemed aware of the potential danger that rappers sometimes face,

During a conversation on the “Drink Champs” podcast that recently streamed, he and Quavo talked to hosts N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN about their new album, “Only Built for Infinity Links.”

Talk turned security and the murders of fellow artists Pop Smoke and PnB Rock. Takeoff said, “You’ve got to be careful with social media now.”

“You gotta watch what you post because even though you’re just trying to show off and show your fans stuff, it’s people that follow you and watch you that [have] bad intentions and don’t want the best for you. They’re looking at your page and see you every day,” he said. “That’s why I don’t even really post like that, or if I do, I post after I left the spot. I post tomorrow or the next day and you think I’m at a location. But nah, I’m at the crib.”

Authorities are asking for the witnesses to come forward and provide information in hopes of arresting the person or people responsible.

Diver finds more human remains in Lake Mead, marking at least the sixth discovery this year | CNN

    CNN
     —

After a diver found what appeared to be a human bone in Lake Mead, the park searched the area and uncovered more human remains, the National Park Service confirmed Wednesday.

The diver, who is a private business operator at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, found the bone in the Callville Bay area of Lake Mead on October 17, according to park spokesperson Stefani Dawn. The next day, a park dive team searched the area and “confirmed the finding of human skeletal remains,” Dawn said.

The finding marks at least the sixth time human remains have been uncovered at the lake this year, many due to the lake’s dropping water levels from prolonged drought. Some of the discoveries have only been partial sets, so it is unclear how many people’s remains have been found.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office, which is handling the remains found this year, previously told CNN that medical examiners were still working to determine whether the partial sets were from separate people.

It is unclear if the bone found on October 17 and the remains found on October 18 belong to the same person.

“At this time, no foul play is suspected,” Dawn said. “The Clark County coroner’s office has been contacted to confirm the identity of the deceased.”

As a decades-long drought parches the American West, Lake Mead’s water supply has suffered, causing the man made reservoir’s shorelines to dramatically recede and reveal some remains that were once submerged.

The first discovery came on May 1, when a set of remains was found in a corroded barrel with an obvious gunshot wound, Lt. Jason Johansson of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police homicide unit told CNN in August.

Investigators quickly determined the body belongs to a homicide victim who died in the mid-’70s to early ‘80s. Medical examiners have been trying to identify the person through DNA analysis, though the advanced decomposition of the remains makes identification challenging, according to Clark County Coroner Melanie Rouse.

Within a week of the homicide victim’s remains being found, another set was discovered in the Callville Bay area. Medical examiners have since identified the remains as those of 42-year-old Thomas Erndt, who is believed to have drowned in the lake in 2002.

Four more discoveries were made in the months that followed, including at least two sets of partial remains in the park’s popular Boulder Beach area.

Dropping water levels have also uncovered relics including sunken boats, a World War II-era landing craft and ancient volcanic rock.
