    I'm a Pro at Closet Clean-Outs—6 Things You Should've Left in 2023

    [ad_1]

If you could describe your 2024 style mantra in three words, which would you choose?

    Classic, modern and clean.

Is quiet luxury in or out? What about Y2K?

Quiet luxury is not a trend; it is a timeless and enduring concept that remains relevant regardless of changing fashion trends. I never caught on to the Y2K trend since I always purchase with intention of building a classic wardrobe.

How would you describe the evolution of your personal style in recent years?

The evolution of my personal style in recent years has been marked by a shift toward a more classic and elegant aesthetic, influenced by my admiration for my mom’s timeless style. Previously, I went through phases of indulging in fast fashion, but a few years ago, I underwent a significant transformation in my approach to shopping. I realized I was spending a considerable amount of money without building a cohesive wardrobe. My closet had numerous gaps, lacking a sense of unity.

In response, I adopted a new strategy, prioritizing quality over quantity in my purchase. Now, each addition to my wardrobe is carefully considered, fitting into the perfect puzzle piece of my overall style. This shift has not only brought a more refined and enduring quality to my fast-fashion choices but has also allowed me to create a wardrobe that reflects my personal taste and stands the test of time.

5 Colors to Tap Into If You Want to Look Richer in 2024

    [ad_1]

I’m what you might call a bona fide neutral lover. Although I am mesmerized by bold colors on the runway, sometimes I find it hard to pull off in real life, especially in a city like New York, where black is the everyday go-to. But this spring 2024 season, I spotted quite a few color trends that I can pull off to make myself feel pulled together and super-rich at the same time.

Thankfully, for the minimalist lover in me, some of my favorite hues (and silhouettes!) are already trending on the runway. From charcoal gray power suits at Ferragamo to the perfect shade of navy at Miu Miu to the mood-boosting Barbie pinks at Prada, today’s color trends are instant hits in my book. Below are the pieces I’ll be wearing to add a luxe take to my closet.

Not only that, but Penzi says cloudberry can also stimulate collagen and thus “contribute to firmness and elasticity of skin” while “diminishing fine lines, wrinkles, and other signs of photo-aging.” In other words, it’s inherently anti-aging as well as brightening and barrier-strengthening.

Not to sound like a game-show host of yesteryear, but that’s not all! Believe it or not, there’s yet another benefit of cloudberry. It’s anti-inflammatory thanks to its flavonoid content. (Flavonoids are phytochemical compounds). “This helps to soothe and calm irritated skin (eczema-prone, rosacea-prone, inflammatory acne, etc.),” Penzi says. “Additionally, they are rich in omega fatty acids that help to strengthen the skin barrier and retain moisture.”

So, yeah, it almost sounds too good to be true, but it’s not. Cloudberry can brighten, soothe, protect, and strengthen the skin barrier all in one go. No wonder it’s been trending lately.

  • I Just Got Back From Miami—These 3 Pieces Were the MVPs of the Trip

I Just Got Back From Miami—These 3 Pieces Were the MVPs of the Trip

    [ad_1]

As a Libra, I take my birthday pretty seriously. You would think I would start to grow out of it, but if I’m being honest, every year, it gets a little more over-the-top than the year before. This year, I was planning a trip to Miami with some friends to ring in my 25th because who doesn’t want to spend their birthday at the beach? We planned the perfect itinerary: booking a cabana at the SLS South Beach pool party, which ended up being the highlight of the trip; shopping in the design district; dining at Soho Beach House; and, of course, visiting some clubs and lounges along the way.

We were staying at the W South Beach, which ended up being perfect. The room was so big I started referring to it as our apartment, and we had a balcony looking out at the water, which ended up being our communal “glass of champagne before dinner” spot. Of course, we had to stay one night at the 1 Hotel South Beach, which happens to be one of my favorite 1 Hotel locations of all time. With our itinerary finished, the next thing to focus on was outfits, my favorite part. After digging on Fwrd, Revolve, Shopbop, and Nordstrom, I landed on a few outfits that were just begging to be worn in Miami on a girl’s trip/birthday weekend.

Keep scrolling to see the looks I landed on and all of the other chic items I brought along with me on my last trip to Miami.

  • A Pink Suit, a Vintage Limo, and Plenty of Elvis: Inside My Vegas Vow Renewal

A Pink Suit, a Vintage Limo, and Plenty of Elvis: Inside My Vegas Vow Renewal

    [ad_1]

I kept going back and forth about what to wear. I’d already worn a perfect-to-me white dress at my dream wedding, and I felt that Vegas required something a little more fun, a little unexpected, and yes, a little more colorful. Plus, it needed to look nice next to my husband’s outfit, which he picked out way before I did. (He has the most intentional style, but that’s a story for another time.) I spent an embarrassing amount of time trying to find this Anine Bing pink silk suit in my size, and I’m happy that my investigative skills paid off because it was everything I wanted. I’m a sucker for an oversize fit, and I felt chic and comfortable in it. I wore the diamond earrings I was gifted on my wedding day and styled a pair of pink Gucci sunglasses (because, Vegas), Amina Muaddi heels, and a sparkly purse I bought on Amazon a few days before—proof that a high-low mix never fails.

As far as beauty goes, I got a spray tan at Sugared + Bronzed before we left for Vegas and a blowout at DryBar, and I did my makeup in our hotel room. Instead of using my tinted moisturizer, I opted for foundation, and I actually wore eye makeup. I used my favorite Nudestix eye stick, my go-to Chanel eyeliner, and brown mascara—all products that would last hours.

I Just Got Back from Europe—French and Spanish Women Both Wore This One Trend

    [ad_1]

Every year, I spend most of my December and January in Europe, basking in the trends firsthand thanks to the incredible people-watching. Whether it’s on-the-go Spanish women in Madrid or chic, stylish Parisians sipping their morning coffee, the women across the pond deliver plenty of style without even realizing it. On this season’s agenda, you ask? A well-made, impressive shearling aviator jacket.

Aviator jackets—and double-faced sherpa and shearling-lined jackets, in general—proved to be one of the biggest jacket trends of last year. They’re not going anywhere anytime soon based on my hard-found, calculated research. (Read: sneaky street style pictures of women I saw during my travels.)

They’re the perfect no-fuss adornment to an already great outfit, and, for most European women leading their busy, metropolitan lives, the jacket style seemed to be a go-to choice as we ended 2023 and entered 2024.

Below, browse plenty of outfit inspiration from the sources and shop for the best aviator jackets to start the year strong. Trust me, you won’t want to scroll away.

This Makeup Line Deserves Your Full Attention—Hundreds of 5-Star Reviews Say So

    [ad_1]

Sephora shoppers never do me wrong. If I’m browsing the beauty retailer’s newest drops and find a suite of beauty products that have almost a perfect five star rating—I pay attention. One such brand that caught my eye recently is Ciele Cosmetics. Founded by celebrity makeup artist Nikki DeRoest and beauty industry veteran Cerre Francis, this is a brand you’ll definitely want to keep an eye on. Not only are folks raving about the brand’s Tinted Serum Foundation on Sephora, TikTok users alike deem this one a solid new favorite. I won’t lie though, my first question was, is it a tint? Is it a foundation? Unclear!

I knew I had to try it for myself along with a few other things from the brand to see what all the fuss is about. Luckily, I got my hands on a few of the brand’s offerings. The brand may not have much in terms of color products just yet, but the ones it does have are great everyday staples I’ll keep handy in my makeup bag. For all my thoughts, keep reading below.

As a trend-forward editor, I go through shoes much faster than I care to admit. With every new season and the thousands of steps I put in daily while living in New York City, it’s important that my shoes are cute and comfortable, but they also need to be affordable enough to switch out when they start to wear out. Enter Charles & Keith.

If you haven’t heard of the Singapore-based footwear and accessory brand, let me introduce you. With ultra-chic styles—including ballet flats, loafers, mules, boots, and heels—clocking in well under $100, Charles & Keith is the go-to sneaky brand for fashion people. Our editor in chief, Kat Collings, even wore a pair to Paris Fashion Week last year. If that isn’t enough of an indication to get on board, I don’t know what is.

  • This TikTok-Famous Blush Is Available in 3 New Shades (I Bet They Sell Out ASAP)

This TikTok-Famous Blush Is Available in 3 New Shades (I Bet They Sell Out ASAP)

    [ad_1]

I’m a beauty editor, so it should come as no surprise that I love blush… and I mean love. Blame it on my recently dull complexion (Midwest winters are no joke) or the fact that I rarely have more than 10 minutes to put myself together, but blush is an essential part of my makeup routine. It’s one of the only products that can make a major difference with little time or effort.  That doesn’t mean I love all blush, though. I’m actually pretty picky about the formulas I use. I want them to provide enough pigment, blend easily into my skin, and last for more than a few hours after application. The one blush that checks off each of these requirements is the TikTok-viral Saie Dew Liquid Blush ($25). I can attest test that the creamy liquid formula is packed with pigment, looks so pretty on the skin, and lasts forever. I don’t like to toss around the word “favorite” too often, but this is my all-time favorite blush.  When I heard that the brand was dropping three new shades, I knew I had to get my hands on them. I wanted to know if they’d hold up to my old favorites (spoiler alert: they do). Keep scrolling to see how each new shade looks IRL and snag them before they sell out.

Originally, there were five shades (now there are eight, but more on that in a minute). My go-to shade is called Dreamy, and it’s a cool-toned berry hue. I find that it suits my skin’s cool undertones well (whenever I wear it, I get major compliments on my skin).

Usually, I go pretty natural with it, but this time, I used a heavy hand to show how the color looks against my light-to-medium skin tone. It matches the natural color of my cheeks when they flush from the cold or from working out, which is why I think I like it so much.

The first new shade is called Cutie, and it’s a warm dusty rose color. On my skin, it reads almost terra cotta. I think it’s super flattering. Honestly, I love it so much that it’s currently vying with Dreamy to win the title of all-time favorite. There—I said it.

Next is Sweetie, which is a foolproof, neutral pink color. This one is a good go-to for people who like a subtle yet universally flattering shade. It’s not the one that stood out to me, but it’s the one that I know I can wear as part of almost any makeup look.

Last but not least is Baby, which is an aptly named cool baby pink. I won’t give up on it yet, but I have a suspicion that this shade doesn’t suit my skin tone as well as the others. Still, I can see how it would look stunning on other people. Even though it looks pretty shockingly pink in the tube, it reads as springy and youthful once it’s blended on the skin.

Every blush needs a bronzer. This one has a blendable, balm-like texture.

This skin tint creates the most natural-looking base.

A modern take on highlighter, this can be used in multiple ways to achieve a pretty glow.

This lip gloss-oil hybrid is so moisturizing and shiny.

A featherweight setting powder that pairs down shine.

  • I Thought I Knew My Best Color, But a Pro Completely Changed My Mind

I Thought I Knew My Best Color, But a Pro Completely Changed My Mind

    [ad_1]

How did you get interested in color analysis?

I got my first personal color done two years ago in Korea, and at the time, it wasn’t really too popular in the U.S. Last December, I went back to Korea. I got certified and trained at an academy there. I came back to New York, graduated from Parsons School of Design in May, and opened Ari/rang Color Studio in August. It hasn’t been too long since we opened, but it’s been very exciting.

    Why personal color?

Personal color is really all about knowing how to look and feel our best. We’re looking at your natural color characteristics that you’re born with. Think the color of your eyes, your hair, your undertones. We use the PCCS hue circle chart and a 146 fabric-draping method to identify your best colors. By putting these fabrics up against your face, we are able to find the colors that highlight your natural color characteristics. Our studio adopted Korean color-analysis processes, as Korea is very advanced in the personal color world. After getting trained there, I knew I had to bring it back to New York so that I could help people find their personal colors without having to fly all the way to Korea.

What if people don’t like their results or are bummed to see that they can’t wear one of their favorite colors?

Everyone has their own style. Fashion is all about creativity and expressing yourself! I always try to emphasize that I’m not telling you to throw away your favorite dress. The goal is to look and feel your best while wearing your favorite clothes!

Do you have any tips for finding your colors at home?

Start by looking at the colors in your closet, and when you go shopping, don’t be scared to try different things. If you only try on black clothes when you go shopping, you’d never know that you look better in other colors! When you’re shopping, try to be more open-minded. Most people have a hard time identifying whether the color is warm toned or cool toned, but expanding your style preferences will help you be more creative and get closer to finding your best colors. You won’t know until you try, so don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone!

How does choosing the right color for you change how you feel?

It can really boost your confidence. Many of my clients feel extra confident walking out of here because they now know how to look and feel their best.

At our studio, we not only look at the colors but also look at fashion and makeup recommendations for each client. They are able to see which colors work best for them and learn how to apply those colors during their consultation. Personal color is also really important when it comes to business, especially if you are client facing, because it’s really all about knowing how to present and brand yourself in the best way possible.

Do people of different races share the same color palette?

People of different races can share the same color palette, as the seasons (color palettes) that we look at in our personal color theories can exist in all races. Maybe if you have darker skin, there are higher chances that you’ll look better in darker colors since they won’t wash you out, but even within the darker colors, we have to look at warm vs. cool tones, brightness, and saturation levels because it really depends on the individual.

    Any last thoughts?

Everyone should get their personal color analysis done. I get a lot of messages from clients, telling me about how excited they are to shop and feel good in their best colors after their consultations! It’s honestly life-changing, and I love seeing our clients leave Ari/rang with more confidence and a smile on their face!

  • Celebrity Men Wearing Handbags Was the Cultural Reset I Didn't Know I Needed

Celebrity Men Wearing Handbags Was the Cultural Reset I Didn't Know I Needed

    [ad_1]

    Photo:

Daniele Venturelli/Getty Images for Bottega Veneta

Any fashion historian would tell you that the concept of men wearing handbags isn’t groundbreaking, but within the past year, this trend has bubbled up in ways that I haven’t seen in recent memory. My theory is that we’ve seen a rise in the popularity of the “man purse” because it directly reflects how fashion is used to challenge cultural norms. It’s no secret that style has always been used as a way to subvert gender conformity, racism, and sexism, but it feels incredibly fresh at this moment, as we’ve seen a slew of political policies passed around the world that erode the rights that women and members of the LGBTQ+ community have over their bodies within the last few years. From the overturning of Roe v. Wade to the countless pieces of legislation proposed to police drag performers and individuals dressing in a gender-nonconforming manner, there’s no shortage of legislation aimed at degrading ideas of bodily autonomy.

In a way, one could argue that the degradation of rights has given rise to a counterculture that centers on positively reframing ideas and values around traditional femininity. One only needs to reference the box-office numbers for the Barbie film, the virality of the “girlhood” fashion trend, and even men donning handbags as proof of such efforts. While art forms like film and fashion can not be held at the same level as other forms of political protest, they’re still imperative because they are a source of solace in times of uncertainty. After all, what’s more refreshing than seeing famous men embrace something as “feminine” as a handbag? Nothing, in my humble opinion.

While good-ole misogyny has reared its ugly head, seeing men carrying their little bags has acted as a cultural reset. It’s the receipts, proof, timeline, and screenshots I’ve needed to be assured that not all hope is lost. Although it might seem melodramatic, I know I’m not the only one feeling this way. With so much buzz on social media surrounding all the celebs spotted wearing designer bags, plus the continued allure of the quiet luxury movement, it’s safe to say this trend carries significant weight. If you’re still dubious about this trend, you’ll want to keep scrolling to see the examples of men wearing handbags on the runway and in real life that I’ve rounded up.

  • I'm an A-List Celeb Stylist— Here's How to Style a Puffer Jacket Right

I'm an A-List Celeb Stylist— Here's How to Style a Puffer Jacket Right

    [ad_1]

Puffer jackets and chic styling don’t often go together at first glance. How to style a puffer jacket isn’t top of mind for most people. Instead, winter dressing is usually about making sure that you’re mentally and emotionally ready to step out of the door without regretting not putting on that extra layer of clothing.

As a new-ish New Yorker who has never experienced a true winter in her entire life, I have to admit that I’m in the latter camp. So when it came to finding a winter jacket that both looked and felt good, I knew I had my work cut out for me—until I asked Karla Welch, that is.

Welch, who has years of experience styling top A-List clientele like Hailey Bieber, Tracee Ellis Ross, America Ferrera, Karlie Kloss, and Lorde, among others, partnered with Canada Goose this fall and winter to make puffer jacket outfits feel more like a creative choice rather than a chore.

“We really wanted to show how a warm functional coat can add to a look and become part of the entire fit vs. just something you wear to stay warm and dry,” Welch, who partnered with the legacy outwear brand in styling its fall/winter 2023 drop, explained. “This new collection is super flattering on the wearer and the color offerings are in arrays of muted tones with pastels here and there, that can easily work themselves into any wardrobe and on any type of person.”

She’s not wrong—a quick glance at the in-season offerings drastically shows that this isn’t your father’s bulky all-black winter puffer of the past. Earth tones and soft, muted mattes instantly elevate the collection, with a minimalist take on quilting, logos, and hardware from the Canada Goose design team.

I'm Hiding It Well, But Inside, I'm Freaking Out About These 36 Anti-Trend Finds

    [ad_1]

I’ve always had a great poker face, probably because I could never quite wrap my head around actual poker and needed to come up with a way to fake it. That said, I only really have to play during holiday parties, so my ability to hide my hand has had to become useful in other ways, one of which is masking my excitement over all things fashion related. You see, I can’t just be freaking out every time I find something really, really good while shopping online. My seatmates at the office would have to move or buy some high-quality soundproof headphones. No matter how calm I might look, trust that I’m probably losing it over a luxury bag, vintage shoes, or a designer-looking sweater inside.

Such was the case this week when I went on a scroll in search of timeless, anti-trend fashion finds to share with all of you. This year has brought with it a fair share of trends, many of which I’m smitten with, but any styling expert knows that a well-rounded wardrobe must include both trendy items and classic ones. The 36 pieces below fit into the latter category, and they’re all more than worth screaming over. I won’t do that, though. Instead, I’ll switch on my aforementioned poker face and tell you all calmly to scroll down and see for yourself just how chic each one is.
