9 Expensive-Looking Winter Outfits to Wear With Jeans

    [ad_1]

I honestly don’t know what we’d all wear in the winter if denim ceased to exist. It’s simply essential and is the perfect match for all of those winter-friendly items like coats, sweaters, and boots. It’s also universally loved, so there’s a steady stream of examples of stylish women wearing incredible winter outfits with jeans.

Even though jeans are the most basic of basics and can be very affordable, they needn’t actually look cheap. I scoured street style from the past year in search of the winter jeans outfits that look ultra-expensive, thanks to a smart styling trick here and there. What does or doesn’t make an outfit look expensive isn’t a scientifically proven fact, but I have a well-trained eye for these sorts of things, so keep scrolling to learn nine tricks of the trade and shop the looks.

  • I Tried Out So Many Basics—These 11 Will Be My Front-Runners This Season

I Tried Out So Many Basics—These 11 Will Be My Front-Runners This Season

    [ad_1]

Despite the fact that basics are the simplest of all the pieces in your closet, they can be the most difficult to shop for. After all, these are the items you’re going to be wearing almost every day, so you have to make sure they’re worth the investment. No one wants to end up putting a ton of money into an itchy sweater or pair of trousers that fit wrong all around. After struggling with finding the right pieces I could rely on in my daily outfit dilemmas, I knew it was time to start from scratch. I had to do a full basics try-on, and upon completion, the experience changed me (and my style) for the better. I got the privilege of trying on a handful of trusty basics that caught my eye for fall and winter and documented everything for you here. With an array of pictures and my honest reviews, you get a proper look at items across all your favorite retailers and how they actually hold up. I’ve made an effort to wear most of them out the past month so you get the real experience and feel of each piece.

I was looking for easy and wearable staples I could add to my wardrobe this season, and after trying on dozens of products, I found 11 that truly over-delivered. Believe me when I say that the quality of these pieces simply can’t be explained. It has to be experienced. Keep scrolling and see my honest reviews of this past month’s try-on haul, from the relaxed pants our readers are always buying to the cashmere sweater that I never want to take off. I’ll be wearing them long past fall and deep into the winter, so trust me when I say they’re worth the look.

  • My Mom Is 62, and I’m 34—These Are the J.Crew, Nordstrom, and H&M Items We Love

My Mom Is 62, and I’m 34—These Are the J.Crew, Nordstrom, and H&M Items We Love

    [ad_1]

My mother and I actually have pretty similar tastes when it comes to clothes. Yes, this is despite our age difference. (I’m 34, and she’s 62.) As age has nothing to do with what you should or shouldn’t wear, it can easily make sense that we share similar sartorial sensibilities. On that note, three stores we happen to both like are J.Crew, Nordstrom, and H&M. On one of her recent visits, we actually scrolled through the websites of each of the retailers because she wanted a bit of shopping inspiration

To give you some inspo if that’s of interest, I thought it could be fun to highlight the specific pieces from the trio of retailers that both my mom and I love for the season. Given that we’re heading deeper into the colder months and toward the holiday season, we both gravitated to those cozy knits, gorgeous outerwear moments (like the J.Crew stunner above), and pieces that could be great for gifting. Keep scrolling for more.

  • I Stalked French Girls on Insta, and They All Own These 8 Non-Basic Things

I Stalked French Girls on Insta, and They All Own These 8 Non-Basic Things

    [ad_1]

French women are known for the classics. A good pair of jeans plus a cable-knit sweater plus timeless accessories make up one of the many outfits that I think of when imagining what one would wear to galavant around Paris. One thing the items listed above have in common is that we call them basics. Since French women are very well known for artfully styling wardrobe essentials, that tends to be what we associate them with. If you take a closer look, however, you’ll notice that they also champion a lot of non-boring items.

Taking a break from exploring French basics led me to notice themes like funky stripes, menswear staples, unique tailoring, and more. There are a lot of micro-trends to be found in Paris, but some of them pop up more often than others. Below, see the eight non-basic things that seemingly all of the French girls own.

What to Never Wear on a Plane, From a Flight Attendant

    [ad_1]

Despite how much we covet celebrity airport style, it’s not always so easy to figure out what you should wear on a plane when push comes to shove—especially as many of us put our travel plans on pause for a while. Stilettos and high-waisted leather pants look great in paparazzi shots of stars strutting through airport terminals, yet in action, these statement-making ensembles can prove a bit trickier. And though we’d all love to look our best when hitting the skies, certain wardrobe pieces are best left in a checked bag or carry-on. Who better to inform us of what to never wear on a plane—and what to wear instead—than someone who works at 35,000 feet?

We reached out to American Airlines flight attendant Andrea Fischbach to spill her list of things you shouldn’t wear when flying—for the sake of comfort, practicality, and safety—as well as her recommendations for what you should wear instead. Keep scrolling!

  • My Hair Has Never Been So Blonde and Healthy—22 Things I Hold Responsible

My Hair Has Never Been So Blonde and Healthy—22 Things I Hold Responsible

    [ad_1]

I’m happy to say that my hair is also pretty healthy, considering the journey that it takes for a natural brunette like me to get there. We’ve all seen how celebs can seemingly go from black to blonde in the blink of an eye (if they aren’t wearing a wig) but the reality is that it’s a long process, which could be too much to handle if you’re not patient.

Celebrity hairstylist and founder of #Mydentity Guy Tang says that the biggest mistake that people make when wanting to go blonde is thinking that they can go from dark brown hair to platinum in a single service. “Going blonde takes time,” he says. “If you rush it you will damage your hair and have a brassy blonde. Let your stylist do it the right way and you will end up with a beautiful blonde color.”

Once you reach your dream blonde shade, there are a few maintenance tips to keep in mind. Touch-ups, for one, are key. Because my hair grows fast, my hairstylist (shoutout Gina Atkinson at Moef Salon!) doesn’t want me going past eight weeks for a touch-up. “If you have highlights or global blonding up to your roots, then a touch up every four to six weeks is a good standard to go by. This ensures your roots don’t grow out too much,” explains Tang. He says that for this kind of blonde, if roots are longer than 1.5 inches or so, it gets harder to get an even clean blonde lift in a single service, but if you have a low maintenance blonde color, you can go as long as four months before getting a touch-up.

  • We’re Fashion Editors Who Secretly Love Comfy Shoes—Here’s What We’re Shopping

We’re Fashion Editors Who Secretly Love Comfy Shoes—Here’s What We’re Shopping

    [ad_1]

How would you describe your everyday style, and how are you switching it up for fall?

With a hybrid work schedule, my outfits can change drastically throughout the week—I’ll wear everything from casual knit sets to tailored separates. However, I tend to stick with pieces that don’t take a lot of effort to style, which means lots of simple trousers, solid-colored tops, and neutral sweaters. Last season, I was really into bright colors, but the cooler temperatures influenced me to embrace strong neutrals like navy and dark green along with materials like tweed and cashmere.

What makes this the perfect athleisure look, and how does it make you feel?

This look feels very L.A. Everyone likes to wear athleisure-inspired outfits around here, so the leggings and sporty jacket are right in line with that laid-back vibe. I tend to stick with all black for my athletic looks, but the punchy, electric-blue sneakers and trendy shield sunglasses make the entire outfit feel cooler than the norm. It’s nice that these sneakers are easy on the feet and still look good. I don’t really have to worry about packing an extra pair of shoes to slip on after my a.m. workout.

What are your tips and tricks for styling running shoes on those days when you’re doing more than running or exercising?

Generally, stick to one color palette. Don’t try to mix a ton of colors, shapes, and silhouettes. When in doubt, minimalistic pieces are much easier to style with running sneakers than sporty pieces that have a ton of bells and whistles.

Why is New Balance your go-to destination for athleisure looks?

The brand really knows what’s going on in terms of trends and athletic performance. Usually, you have to sacrifice one for another—like going for not-so-cute running shoes because they’re better performance-wise or going for elevated sneakers that aren’t really comfortable. But New Balance offers the best of both worlds at an affordable price point.

    [ad_1]

I’m constantly inspired by the risks celebrities take with their style, but after seeing the best-dressed stars IRL on the CFDA Awards red carpet, to say ‘inspired’ is simply an understatement. Everyone was clad in designer favorites like LaQuan Smith to Altuzarra, but Kendall Jenner and Katie Holmes in Khaite and Jonathan Simkhai were personal favorites. Both looks included the perfect trend to ring in the upcoming holiday season: shimmer and sequins. I’ve only kept one or two sparkly pieces in my closet but seeing the trend up-close has me ready to embrace it a little more often.

Ahead, see how the celebs wore the shimmer look on the red carpet, and shop it if you find yourself enamored like I was. Whether you need a gala-ready gown or an eclectic accessory, the pieces below will have you bejeweled in no time.

I’ve Been Collecting Bags for 33 Years—These Are the 7 I’d Buy Again and Again

    [ad_1]

Before the world that revolves around Instagram and TikTok influencers existed, there was the fashion blog. One of the first blogs to make it big was BagSnob.com. Tina Chen Craig’s love for finding the next best designer handbag led to the site’s creation and the lifestyle brand that followed right behind it. This journey began for her in 2005 and led to her being a forever-loved cultural icon in the fashion world.

The holiday season is the perfect time for big investments. Whether you’re shopping for yourself or a loved one, this is truly the time of year that the designer bags are flying off the shelves. It would be a dream come true for me to treat myself to something special this year, so while I’m surveying my options, I decided to call in for help. Since Craig’s bag collection is so incredibly robust, I decided to ask her which designer bags are actually worth buying.

My Birthday Is My Favorite Occasion to Shop for—29 Epic Finds in My Cart

It’s Officially Over for These Shoe Trends

    [ad_1]

Trends come and go at the speed of light. One day, everyone’s wearing their “dad” sneakers, and the next, it’s all about ’80s throwback pairs (or so it seems). With new shoe styles emerging all the time, it can be hard to keep up. But for anyone curious to check in with their current shoe collection, we’re sharing the status on the trends we can safely pause buying and which have taken their place.

Naturally, as editors, we jump at the chance to share the best styles with you whenever a new trend bubbles up. If there’s a new shoe trend, you can be sure that we’ll be all over it, from the new It brands all the fashion girls are wearing to the pieces we’ve told you will sell out first next month. That said, the following styles are those we’ve simply noticed have been losing steam lately.

If you’re curious to find out which are the best shoe styles, according to our editors, and which styles are slowing down, keep reading. As always, though, I recommend holding onto pieces that you love because if they fit into your personal wardrobe you shouldn’t stop wearing them just because of the trend cycles.

  • This Controversial Wedding Trend Is Becoming a Thing

This Controversial Wedding Trend Is Becoming a Thing

    [ad_1]

You’d think after being in three weddings in the last year that my dress-planning energy and bank account would sweat at the thought of purchasing another dress for a wedding weekend, but here I am with this trend I accidentally started: wedding-party second looks. Hear me out on why I’m so for the idea of this. Weddings are one of the few times you get to see all your favorite people in one place, and if you’ve been selected to be a part of the wedding party (which is such an honor), that means you’ll be in the same or similar dress as other girls in the party.

For this reason, I suggested a bridal-party “second look” to one of my friends. I’ll admit I was somewhat joking when I suggested it, but when my friend was so into it, I thought we should make it an official thing. My friend and the bride-to-be said if bridesmaids want to change, she’s totally down and wants everyone to enjoy the night and feel comfortable in whatever they are wearing. By no means is this a required thing, but it’s simply an option for those who’d like to change mid-reception after the bride puts on her second look. When I was casually chatting about this at the office, the topic turned quite controversial, as the team was torn 50/50 for and against the idea.

  • I’m Placing Bets That This ’90s Accessory Trend Will Be Big This Fall

I’m Placing Bets That This ’90s Accessory Trend Will Be Big This Fall

    [ad_1]

    Photo:

Courtesy of Loewe; Courtesy of Versace; Courtesy of Fendi

Every fall marks the return of beloved staples (like knee-high boots, sweater dresses, or leather jackets), but it also brings in the possibility of adopting something “new.” Of course, when it comes to trends, there’s nothing that’s ever entirely original—inspiration is constantly drawn from the past. As runway collections have tapped nostalgia more and more, we’ve witnessed formerly “dated” trends be transformed into something that feels brand new.

Nothing shows that more than the return of furry accessories. Fur accessories have always waned in and out of style as humans have worn them for centuries. However, they first gained notoriety in the fashion world in the 1960s, thanks to designers like Karl Lagerfield coining the term “fun fur” when working at Fendi. But the ’90s marked an even more significant shift in the popularity of fur, as fabric production innovations allowed for the creation of faux fur, making the fabric more animal-friendly and affordable. The result was the creation of a slew of furry accessories that managed to define the decade and continue to do so to this day.

We can see furry accessories continued presence in the fashion zeitgeist, most recently in fall/winter 2022 collections. From Kim Jones at Fendi to Donatella at Versace, we saw no shortage of designers taking this ’90s-inspired accessory and reenvisioning it in a way that could make even the most forward-thinking fashionphiles feel a flicker of nostalgia.

So, without further ado, here are the three ways this trend reemerged on the runway, along with the best furry accessories to shop for right now.

I’ve Been a Wardrobe Stylist for 10 Years—This Is My 6-Piece French Capsule

    [ad_1]

The French-girl wardrobe is fascinating for a number of reasons: it’s simple, timeless, and effortless. And the quest for the right pieces to achieve it can easily become a lifelong endeavor. We could spend all day figuring out how to emulate the key elements that make French style so good, and if you’re a consistent Who What Wear reader, you know that we do spend a considerable amount of time on the topic.

We’re hardly the only sartorial Francophiles, either. We chatted with an NYC-based wardrobe stylist who is so enamored with the simplicity of French style that she went out and designed her very own French-inspired capsule wardrobe. Meet Bryn Taylor, a stylist of 10 years who recently launched Ouisa, a well-edited assortment of just six pieces that make up what she deems to be the perfect capsule wardrobe.

“While I love fashion and understand the power of clothing to change people’s mindsets,” Taylor shared with us, “I noticed that my clients often expressed frustration over the paralysis of choice within their wardrobes and shopping for clothes in general. They wanted to create an easy, cool, signature style but lacked the confidence and tools to do so. I would always advocate for a smaller, more thoughtful wardrobe consisting of pieces they could depend on in any situation, and seamlessly mix and match. Essentially, a capsule collection. I kept noticing that the foundational pieces my clients’ closets were missing were the same tried and true essentials I depended on in my own wardrobe.”

Cropped Pants Are Out, Puddle Pants Are In—8 Celeb Looks That Prove It

    [ad_1]

Five years ago, if someone told me that cropped pants would be passé in just a few years, I don’t know that I would have believed it. At 5’4″, I’m used to spending a good amount of time and money at the tailor or shopping for pants with an inseam of 28″ or less. But now the year is 2022 and cropped pants are feeling like more and more of a distant memory. In its place are puddle pants, and celebrities have been solidifying their importance more and more every day.

Puddle pants are pretty much exactly how they sound: ultra-long trousers (or jeans) that pool around the ankles, dragging on the floor. Pants dragging on the floor isn’t really music to my ears, but a trend is a trend, and you can always wear heels to minimize the dragging. But some celebs, such as Zoë Kravitz, are embracing the puddle and even wearing flats with the trend. Others, such as Kate Middleton and Rihanna, are wearing them with their highest heels. Whatever your shoe preference, puddle pants are shaping up to be one of the biggest pant trends of 2022. Scroll on to see which stylish celebs are wearing them and shop my favorite puddly pairs.
