J.Crew, Abercrombie, and Banana Republic Are Cool Again—See My Current Wish List

    [ad_1]

J.Crew, Banana Republic, and Abercrombie becoming the favored shopping destinations of the fashion set certainly weren’t on my 2022 bingo card. But as always, the industry always likes to keep me on my toes. I can’t scroll through TikTok and Instagram without seeing an influencer, editor, or just an average consumer posting about their latest purchase from one of the three. And with every post I see, I become increasingly impressed. Our team has even gone the lengths of testing various pieces from the retailers and has given nothing but high praises for the fit and quality.

Out of both professional and personal curiosity, I went through every single page on each site and ended up with a thorough fall wish list. Everything below is not only on-trend but is also basic enough to be worn for years. Last but not least, all the pieces look triple the price. If you don’t believe me, keep scrolling and see for yourself. (And be prepared to click “add to cart” along the way.)

  • Bottega Veneta’s $820 Earrings Are Going Viral—9 Alternatives Just As Stunning

Bottega Veneta’s $820 Earrings Are Going Viral—9 Alternatives Just As Stunning

    [ad_1]

    Jean Catuffe/Getty Images

Earlier this year fashion editors waited with bated breath for Matthieu Blazy’s debut collection for Bottega Veneta. Building on Daniel Lee’s modern vision, Blazy took things a step further with the addition of relaxed staples like denim jeans and white tanks, along with exceptionally tailored suiting and dresses. The brand is no stranger to viral trend moments—it often sets them—and for the fall-winter 2022 season it was clear that Blazy had a hit on his hands. But the buzzy piece in question wasn’t a handbag or shoe for once, it was a pair of earrings.

You can always be sure of a standout accessory moment from Bottega Veneta, and the brand made good on its reputation following a paparazzi capture courtesy of Kendall Jenner. The model stepped out in a full look from the collection, topping off the pale yellow dress with a pair of chunky gold earrings. From then, it didn’t take long before the images found their target audience on TikTok, with most users taking note of Jenner’s larger-than-life drop earrings. Made from silver, the teardrop-shaped baubles almost have the appearance of a hoop when worn on the ear. The earrings come in both silver and gold-plated versions starting at $780 for the medium size, going upwards of $1,350 for the large version. Despite their hefty price tag, as with most items that garner a lot of internet buzz, the earrings virtually sell out every time they’re restocked.

But a true editor never lets an out-of-stock notification ruin the fun, so I found some equally gorgeous (and less expensive) alternatives that you don’t have to wait to buy. For a full run-down on the viral trend, and to shop some great dupes, keep scrolling.

26 Special Basics I’ve Been Waiting All Year to Buy From the Black Friday Sales

    [ad_1]

Black Friday is finally here, so let’s all try to ignore that feeling of panic we woke up with (is it just me?) and get organized. The purpose of Cyber Weekend is, of course, to get some great deals on gifts ahead of the holidays. But from a fashion person’s perspective, it’s also the shopping Olympics. I, for one, convince myself for months before Black Friday to wait until the entire internet is on sale to order some items.

It’s typical to see very trendy items marked down as the season progresses, but basics don’t always see such frequent price reductions. As such, I’m putting the focus here on an assortment of special basics that are finally marked down. Below, you’ll find denim, boots, sweaters, outerwear, and all the everyday things that you may regret missing out on while they’re on sale and still in stock.

Don’t Tell Anyone, But Amazon Has My Favorite On-Sale Fashion and Beauty Items

    [ad_1]

Whenever I think of Amazon, the first thing that comes to mind is décor, home-organization pieces, and last-minute Halloween costumes. Recently, however, that’s changed for me. I have been seeing great fashion and beauty products ordered from Amazon all over my TikTok, and I’m amazed at how many really great products people were ordering from Amazon. It seems like I’m a little behind the curve, but I’ve seen the light and realized Amazon is not just a spot for makeup-brush holders and black cat ears. It’s actually a go-to spot for skincare, makeup, and clothing items. During my latest Amazon deep dive, I found 27 products that are so good you’d never guess I ordered them on Amazon. Not to mention, Cyber Week is here, so Amazon is offering major discounts right now.

J.Crew launched a capsule collection with Paris-based designer Marie Marot earlier this fall. Well, the editor-favorite retailer and the brilliant designer are back with a new holiday collaboration that I’d basically describe in three words—pretty, chic, and Parisian—given Marot’s effortless yet forward approach to design.

The range features thoughtfully designed items in high-quality fabrics. Included in the mix? There’s everything from sleek suiting to the most beautiful skirt. Basically, if you have a few holiday parties coming up, you just might find your dream outfit in the latest from J.Crew and Marie Marot. Keep scrolling to see and shop the line.

The beauty of Black Friday sales is that, on top of the amazing deals on gift-worthy items, you’ll find highly covetable fashion items for every season of the year from low-priced brands all the way up to designer labels. Since I’m somewhat of an avid shopper, I tend to buy those everyday items I need (aka basics) when I need them, but based on the number of stylish basics I’ve seen on sale this week, I really wish I’d waited and bought my jeans, tees, sweaters, and coats in bulk this week.

Some of the best brands for basics, such as Reformation, H&M, Madewell, and & Other Stories, are having great sales right now, so if you’re like me, your head is probably spinning. I can help with that if you keep scrolling. And if you’re not like me and haven’t already bought all the basics you need for the time being, you’ve come to the right place. • I Said I Wouldn’t Buy Any New Coats This Year, But These Are Too Good to Pass Up

I Said I Wouldn’t Buy Any New Coats This Year, But These Are Too Good to Pass Up

    [ad_1]

For someone who lives in what anyone off the island of Manhattan would consider a shoe box, I own a lot of coats. From floor-length styles made of wool and leather to insulated puffers for running in the coldest of temperatures, my collection checks off every box. Yet when I saw brands start to drop their fall outerwear offerings a few weeks ago, I felt a familiar feeling creep up—the same one that led me toward buying the many coats I already do own.

Despite promising myself that this year would be different and that I wouldn’t once again invest in a coat, or coats, I don’t technically need, it seems the options this season are just too good to resist. At this rate, I’m going to need an entire storage unit dedicated to my growing outerwear collection. On the bright side, at least I won’t have to worry about frostbite once winter eventually arrives.

Ahead, shop the coats that broke me down with as little as one glance.

Welcome to Sweater Season—5 Trends That Are Out and 5 That Are In

    [ad_1]

It just doesn’t feel right to think about sweaters when it’s still 90ºF in the shade and everyone on your Instagram feed seems to be on the Amalfi Coast. Trust me—I get it. But as of yesterday, it’s officially fall, and chances are you’ll soon find yourself reaching for a sweater. I, for one, am ready for that after five months of heat and humidity. (I live in the South…)

Sweaters are one of those items that you’ll probably want to invest in classic versions of before trends, but sometimes the classics become trends and vice versa. So let’s talk about fall’s sweater trends, shall we? There are five styles that are quickly emerging as the top trends of the season, and there are also five that I’d advise stowing away for now. (Chances are they’ll be back.)

  • The “Boring” Handbag That You’ll Never Regret Buying

The “Boring” Handbag That You’ll Never Regret Buying

    [ad_1]

Ever since I can remember, I’ve been a bag lady. Family members can recount how I’d often carry my mini bag around as a toddler. It was an early indication of a lifelong passion for scouring resale sites, sales, and digital racks in search of the perfect purse. Of course, like all bag lovers, I’ll admit to maybe owning too many, but I won’t ever succumb to the belief that this accessory is trivial. For collectors, we know that a bag can make or break an outfit. So even if we all delight in following new trends or donning a rhinestone-adorned version, we know, at the end of the day, we must have at least one basic bag that can go with everything.

What that staple handbag looks like depends on our personal preferences, but it’s safe to say there is one color that’s agreed upon as a must-have: black. After all, this is the fashion color. It’s a must-have for every other accessory, so why wouldn’t it be for bags too? It’s a piece that can pull together any look and be worn anytime or anywhere. But to say that all black bags are created equal would be a lie. As a picky shopper, I know there can be bland black bags, and there can be stylish ones. You just have to do some digging.

In that vein, I’ve scoured the internet to find the 42 best black handbags at every price point. From special hardware and materials to shapes and sizes, the details of each bag prove that this staple is far from boring.

  • British Women Politely Laugh Every Time Americans Wear These 4 Items

British Women Politely Laugh Every Time Americans Wear These 4 Items

    [ad_1]

It may be entirely un-British to laugh about anyone else’s style choices (we Brits are far too polite for that), but I will say that as a Brit living in Los Angeles for over 12 years, I’ve picked up on certain American sartorial tendencies that I’ve found rather distinct and funny. I recall being taken aback on my first brunch date in Santa Monica where everyone looked like they had just stepped out of the gym (minus the sweat, of course). This is a far cry from the UK, where you’d never meet friends for lunch in yoga pants or sports gear if you aren’t actually planning to do sports. (Full disclosure: 12 years later, I now look like I go to the gym too.)

While we love expressing our adoration for classic French style here on Who What Wear, it’s the Brits who take more style risks, exude an edgier aesthetic, and are decidedly individual in their style choices. British Vogue’s shopping editor, Joy Montgomery, describes some of the key characteristics of British style: “Eccentricity would have to be at the top of the list. While we marvel at New Yorker’s professional polish or L.A.’s laid-back cool, we Brits possess a certain nerdy quirkiness that manifests in chunky, hand-knitted jumpers, heritage fabrics, and off-beat accessories—we championed ‘ugly’ trends way before they hit the mainstream. Our muses include Alexa Chung, Vivienne Westwood, and Cara Delevingne—all wonderfully weird in their own ways yet also undeniably cool.”

So what are the pieces that Americans wear that Brits think are a tad funny? Scroll below for my firsthand fashion observations.

  • Pants Are Out, and Underwear Is In—6 Risqué Runway Looks That Prove It

Pants Are Out, and Underwear Is In—6 Risqué Runway Looks That Prove It

    [ad_1]

In addition to simple, pared-down looks on the spring 2023 runways, the latest fashion season also offered up its fair share of more risqué ensembles, one of which involves ditching pants entirely and wearing underwearonly. Even more surprising, though, was how alluring the trend turned out to be. Rather than over-the-top or showy, designers like Matthieu Blazy at Bottega Veneta and Victoria Beckham showcased the pantsless look in the most high-brow of manners.

What leveled up the concept was the way in which it was styled on the runways, which I suggest you take note of for when you test out the trend IRL. At both of the aforementioned presentations, models ditched pants and wore just tights instead, paired with classic heels and either a simple knit (at Bottega Veneta) or a lace bra and tailored blazer (at Victoria Beckham).

In contrast, Miu Miu Creative Director Miuccia Prada used long, layered T-shirts and knee-high open-toe boots to create the illusion that going out sans trousers was no big deal. At Del Core, thigh-high stockings provided just enough coverage to make a bodysuit (and only a bodysuit) suitable for everyday, and at Coperni, a cropped blazer was made to turn high-rise black briefs into a put-together ensemble.

All that’s to say if you were planning on investing heavily in trousers come spring, don’t. Or at least, don’t buy so many that you can’t afford a few pairs of show-worthy panties and snag-proof tights. I promise they’ll come in handy because the pantsless trend, no matter how impractical, is here to stay.

Nope, Bomber Jackets Aren’t Dead—32 New Styles to Prove It

    [ad_1]

Typically, a fashion trend has a short life span when it goes viral overnight. However, year after year, season after season, there has been one overnight trend in particular that has remained relevant: the bomber jacketThe outerwear became an off-duty-supermodel sensation around 2015. As if they planned it, Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, and Bella Hadid were spotted all over New York and L.A. wearing the trendy piece.

Since then, the style has prevailed on the runways as designers have reworked it every season. No longer just considered an athleisure staple, this jacket’s ability to be seasonless and genderless has cemented it as an essential part of everyday ensemblesAnd now that the trend has fully saturated, bomber jackets are available at every price point. From casual and lightweight to fuzzy and fleece-lined, there are so many bomber jacket styles to choose from. Below, I’ve outlined 32 of the season’s best bomber jackets for every type of personal style at every price point.

I’m a Sale Shopping Pro—29 Buys You Don’t Want to Skip This Week (and 2 You Do)

    [ad_1]

Considering I basically shop online all day for a living, it should come as no surprise that I am rather good at scoping out incredible sale finds. Digging through endless pages of discounted products is not fun for anyone, and with Black Friday and Cyber Monday right around the corner, the volume of sales is only growing larger by the second. To ensure you have the most pleasurable sale shopping experience this year, I went through the best sales of the season to bring you the 29 buys you absolutely don’t want to skip this week and weekend.

Additionally, there are a couple of things I want to advise you not to purchase during this sale period. A few years ago, we received some insider knowledge from a retail expert at BlackFriday.com on exactly what to not buy during these seasonal sales. The first thing on the list was jewelry. There are more discounts on jewelry post–Valentine’s Day, so if you can avoid the category altogether, you’ll be making a wise decision. The second is winter coats. I know I, for one, am always extremely tempted to stock up on all the stunning outerwear the season has to offer, but experts state that you will get better details once the winter season has ended, so once again, hold off if you can.

You’re welcome for those secret Black Friday and Cyber Monday sale shopping tips, but our goal was not to get you to hold off on shopping; it was actually to encourage you to stock up on all the incredible finds that we are advising you to buy ASAP. So go on and fill your carts. You deserve it.

It is officially boot season. I have hidden my sandals and heels and made room for my growing boot collection. When I first moved to New York City from Los Angeles, my boot collection needed some serious help. That was years ago, and now I have done a few fall/winter seasons in the city, and thankfully my boot game has definitely gotten better. I love knee-high boots, Chelsea boots, Western boots, ankle boots, and suede boots. I mean, when you’re planning the perfect cold-weather outfit, the boots are really what makes the look. While shopping for a new addition to my collection, I found 30 pairs that are way too good to pass up. Unfortunately, my New York apartment wouldn’t even be able to hold all 30 of these chic new boots, but that won’t stop me from sharing.

  • “Vampire Skin” Is TikTok’s Latest Obsession—Here’s How to Execute It Like a Pro

“Vampire Skin” Is TikTok’s Latest Obsession—Here’s How to Execute It Like a Pro

    [ad_1]

Because I trust them wholeheartedly, I asked celebrity makeup artists Judi Gabbay and Allison Kaye to give me their pro tips on vampire skin. “Vampire skin is a spin-off of glass skin,” says Kaye. “Glowing skin is in style and to achieve it, you mix a liquid highlight or glowy product into your foundation or layer them under your foundation.”

What I personally love about this trend is that I didn’t have to buy anything new or spend a lot of money to give it a try. I’m fully stocked on both foundations and liquid highlights, so I could play around with different combinations to find what I liked best. Gabbay also has a few tips: “If you’re looking to create vampire skin, you’ll need a few products that you may already have on hand. The trend calls for a liquid glitter, but I find using a liquid highlighter [is] more wearable. Using your favorite lightweight foundation, mix in your liquid highlighter or glitter. Stipple the mix onto the skin using a damp beauty sponge. The trend calls for glittering skin ‘like Edward Cullen,’ so you’ll want to highlight the high points with a fine glitter such as Makeup by Mario’s Crystal Reflector in Quartz ($26).”

For a few of each’s product recs for vampire skin, plus a few I’ve been testing out myself, take a look below.
