  • Every Solid 2023 Outfit Starts With These Trendy Basics

Every Solid 2023 Outfit Starts With These Trendy Basics

    [ad_1]

If you’re looking for a few new outfit formulas to mix into your rotation, you’ve landed in the perfect spot. Below, I’m sharing a range of stylish ensembles to consider. While each look is unique in its own right, there is a common thread to note: Yep, each outfit features a trendy basic

Given that basics act as the foundational elements in a solid look, it probably doesn’t come as much of a shock that some of my favorite recent outfit ideas start with next-level basics. For reference, the basics in question fall in that “trendy” category because they’re highly versatile like a tried-and-true basic, but also have a forward element to make them especially modern.

Keep scrolling to check out 2023 outfit ideas that feature a trendy basic as the hero piece.

  • I’m a Fashion and Beauty Content Creator—These 10 Items Made the Cut for 2023

I’m a Fashion and Beauty Content Creator—These 10 Items Made the Cut for 2023

    [ad_1]

Something else I think that’s out for 2023 is buying new clothes. Fast fashion should be dead. … I have just been seeing this more and more, even myself. I’m not interested in buying new stuff anymore. I’m way more inclined to look for something vintage. I genuinely don’t want to buy a Chanel bag from the Chanel store. I want to go and source a really cool, unique piece that no one else is going to have. I feel this way about clothing as well, not just accessories.

When I see people on my Instagram sharing where they got their outfits and they say that their look is fully vintage my first thought is, “That is so cool.” This helps me focus on the styling of an outfit way more than where something is from, and then I’m not googling Prada item numbers all night.

I also think that luxe fabrics are going to be so in as well as slingback shoes. I think closed-toed shoes are going to be the thing. Open-toed pumps are going to be less popular. I have a feeling the sexy pointed-toe, closed-toed pump is going to be the moment.

What about when it comes to hair? What hair trends or styles are you loving for 2023?

For hair, blowouts and super-big hair are in. The hot tools that you use, especially from Dyson, to get bigger hair are going to be a must-have. It’s all about the “supermodel off-duty” hair. I think sleek, straight hair is on its way out.

What about outerwear or layering pieces? What made the cut for the New Year, and what didn’t?

I think that blazers were a huge thing [last] year. Every girl was wearing an oversize blazer, and it was such a moment, and I honestly really like it. It kind of goes hand in hand with that boss energy—like girl-boss energy—and I love it. However, I do think that it’s super corporate, and for a while, it was a fun way to make a corporate look also stylish, but I think now it’s all about those big faux-fur jackets. A big faux-fur jacket has the same boss energy, just more fashionable and more Carrie Bradshaw. I wore mine basically every day while I was in New York recently. And it’s going back to the vintage-ness thing I was talking about earlier. I love the vintage aspect of it, having a big jacket that you’ve never seen before. It’s super cool, and it shows that you have a sense of style.

What are you most looking forward to in 2023?

Well, I’m very excited for an upcoming project that I’m launching in the New Year, and I’ve been working on it for a very long time, and when people find out what it is, I think they’re gonna be very surprised but also super excited. … It makes sense like they’re gonna be like, “Oh my God, that makes sense for Emma.” But they would never expect it for me. I don’t think so. That’s what I’m most excited for in 2023. I’m also just really excited to travel again. Obviously, travel has been open for a while now, but I just love to travel and look forward to my trips every year. I’m really excited to go to Europe and excited for European summer. I’m also excited to just play with my fashion and beauty. This past year, I was really playing around with makeup a lot and having fun with it in a way I never really did before. I used to always keep the same look all the time and stuck to something I knew. But this year, I experimented a little bit, and I loved it, especially my fashion too. I’m excited to take what I learned in 2022 and not give a crap about what anyone thinks in 2023. I am in my “slay era” mindset, and I’m excited to carry that energy into 2023.

What is one piece of style advice that you learned in 2022 that you’re gonna be taking into 2023?

So my biggest style advice is less is more. People often go out and think, “Oh, I need to be dressy. I need to look fancy.” But I think now the way to look cool when you go out is to put on a really cool pair of denim, add a sparkly/statement shoe, wear a cute T-shirt, and pair that with a cool jacket. I think now it’s about being cooler and chiller. Think of Hailey Bieber. She’s a great example of this.

  • My 50-Year-Old Mom and I Rarely Agree, But We Both Love These 29 Nordstrom Finds

My 50-Year-Old Mom and I Rarely Agree, But We Both Love These 29 Nordstrom Finds

    [ad_1]

I’ve always had a lot of energy, especially when I was a baby. In my youth, I would bounce throughout the house with so much fury that my mom was desperate to find a place where I could get all of that energy out, so we headed to the mall. She would mall-walk and push me in a stroller for hours every week. My mom recounts this as the start of my love for shopping. I feel the ultimate sense of nostalgia when we shop together.

I just spent some time at home for the holidays, and per usual, we headed to the mall. I’m always trying to overhaul her wardrobe and convince her to try everything that I’m seeing on the streets of New York. We got overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of late Christmas shoppers, so online shopping it was. We disagree on a lot of the controversial fashion trends, but after a lot of scrolling, we found 29 items that we actually agree upon.

The color red is our love language.

We’re both here for the belt.

My mom loves elevated sneakers, and so do I.

I have a coat just like this, and my mom wants one for herself.

I’m trying to sell my mom on quirky jewelry.

I told my mom that I saw this leather-jacket silhouette on the runway, and she’s sold.

I’m always borrowing from my mom’s designer-bag collection, and I’m hoping she buys this one next.

We’d both wear this to dinner.

She loves a good pair of skinny pants, so I am steering her in this direction.

This sweater reminds me of something I saw at Khaite. I need it.

My mom has a fabulous drawer of scarves, and I like to add to it when I’m shopping for her.

She’s always borrowing my shearling jackets.

We both deal with snow in the winter, and these boots would be a big help.

The fact that this is under $100 is beyond me.

We both love lounging in cozy tanks.

When I’m home, I love hopping on my mom’s Peloton, and we’d both wear shorts like this for a fun ride.

I’m easing her into wide-leg pants, and this pair has me captivated.

Jeans that are just outside of her comfort zone but are extremely comfortable.

We’d both wear this on a Zoom call.

A good belt takes any look to the next level.

My mom actually introduced me to Rails when I was young, and we both love the brand.

Uggs bonded us during my teenage years, and I’m convincing my mom to try the short pairs.

We both always can agree when it comes to staple tees.

Stuart Weitzman is one of her favorite investment brands.

Being from Michigan, we live for a good coat.

She recently saw me wear the long-denim-skirt trend and expressed interest.

Leather gloves are the ultimate winter luxury.

The inner French girl in both of us loves a striped sweater.

I recently wore something like this, and my mom asked me where I got it from immediately.

The Luxe Accessory Every French Woman Wears on Repeat

    [ad_1]

If you scroll through Who What Wear on any given day, you’d most likely glean that we love French fashion. One might assume that our obsession is rooted in the release of the third season of Netflix’s breakout show Emily in Paris, starring our recent cover star Lily Collins. But in truth, we were about French fashion long before it became a part of the broader zeitgeist. From searching Paris’s runways for trends to scouring our feeds for outfit inspiration, we can’t get enough of everything French adjacent.

So it’s only natural that we turned to them again when thinking about ways to make winter outfits feel more luxurious. After much research, we concluded that only one winter-ready accessory is the key to replicating that je ne sais quoi that’s innate to French women: cashmere scarves. Though it may seem trivial, this accessory can make any outfit look more elegant and make any person (no matter where they live) feel chic.

In an effort to prove the power of this piece, we found examples of how French women are wearing this luxurious winter accessory. Plus, we rounded up the 30 best cashmere scarves across the internet based on price point, sustainability, and wearability. Keep scrolling to see how this plush accessory plays a significant part in Parisian fashion…

  • The Lessons Madelyn Cline Learned While On the Set of Glass Onion

The Lessons Madelyn Cline Learned While On the Set of Glass Onion

    [ad_1]

Were there any specific other pieces of advice or lessons you learned even from your castmates on Glass Onion?

From Daniel, I learned, what a true leading man looks like. He is a gentleman to the core. And he’s also he is one of the funniest, most uninhibited people I think I’ve ever met. And he, along with Rian knows have this great energy. That feeling of safety and freedom starts from the top. They really knew how to curate, and facilitate an environment where everybody felt safe and free to play. And that’s something that on any set, I’m ever on it, I would want to emulate that kind of energy. It’s important, and I don’t think it matters where you are in a call sheet.

From Ed Edward, he is such a perfectionist, yet I learned that no mistake you’ve ever made is ever worth it. If you’re not happy with what you’ve put down, you can start over. That’s a very practical thing for an actor. Sometimes I think we feel like have to keep going. Don’t do it. Just start over and only put on camera what you’re happy with.

With Kathryn, Kate, and Janelle, I learned freedom. Those three are so free and inhibited. They have no fear. They’re fearless in their work and I admire that so much.

From Leslie, I learned stillness. I learned how powerful stillness is. He’s also very calculated and intentional about everything he does. It was so beautiful to watch.

  • I Have Tried Basically Every Popular Fragrance Out There—These 30 Are Worth It

I Have Tried Basically Every Popular Fragrance Out There—These 30 Are Worth It

    [ad_1]

I have always been one of those people who love perfumes and fragrances. Oftentimes when we’re talking about the cherry on top of an outfit, people think of shoes or a great pair of sunglasses, which are important parts of an outfit, don’t get me wrong, but the real cherry on top is a great fragrance. Your scent says just as much about you as your outfit choice does. I love fragrance so much I bring a travel size perfume in my purse with me everywhere I go. I’m a believer in mixing perfumes too. Certain brands, such as Jo Malone London, are designed to be mixed and matched with their entire collection of scents. I personally love the combination of Wood Sage & Sea Salt mixed with English Pear & Freesia. I’m currently wearing a mix of Rose 31 from Le Labo and Miss Dior Absolutely Blooming. They balance each other out so well, with the Le Labo perfume being a little smoky and masculine and the Dior being light and sweet.

Certain fragrances gain the attention of fragrance lovers and become cult favorites. Some that come to mind are Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s Baccarat Rouge or Le Labo’s Santal 33. Now whenever I hear about a new fragrance everyone can’t get enough of, I have to be the judge myself. I have high standards when it comes to perfume, and I need to really love a scent to spend the money on it, especially considering great fragrances aren’t usually cheap.

For me to invest in the right fragrance, it has to check four main boxes. It has to last a long time (for me, that’s at least five to six months), it has to be sweet but not overwhelmingly so that you would mistake me for a high school cheer captain, it has to be a little woodsy or smoky but not so that you’d mistake me for someone’s grandfather, and it has to have character and personality. I rounded up 30 fragrances that I’ve tried and believe are worth the hype and have earned the title of “cult-favorite fragrance,” including all of my current favorites that sit on my vanity while I write this.

Keep scrolling to see which fragrances made the cut.

As with any job, you can get bored, even if you write about something as fun as beauty. Especially if you’ve been writing about it for years. While I don’t ever get too disillusioned with beauty, there have definitely been times when all of the lipsticks, moisturizers, and bronzers start looking the same and morphing into each other. That being said, there are the ones that stand out—whether it’s an entirely new, never-before-seen product or simply something that works so well that you have to tell every single person you know. These are the products that can instantly snap an old fogy beauty editor like myself out of a jaded daze.

My Mom Is 63, and I’m 34—We’re Editing Our Closets and Like These J.Crew Items

    [ad_1]

My mother and I are spending the first part of the New Year sorting our closets in an effort to get rid of what’s not working for us anymore. The goal is to edit and not to replace everything we’re ditching, but it’s also a time we’re both looking at our wardrobes to identify any holes where a fresh piece or two could be worth it. And while age has nothing to do with what you should or shouldn’t wear, it’s fun to note that my mom and I tend to gravitate toward similar pieces and trends—despite our 29-year age difference. (I’m 34, and she’s 63.) Furthermore, one store we both love for uncovering wardrobe staples just so happens to be J.Crew.

On that note, we actually went into a J.Crew store over the holidays and also scrolled through the site to identify the items we both like. To give you shopping inspiration, I decided to highlight the five womenswear items I especially liked from my mom’s list, including the sweater J.Crew designer Olympia Gayot is wearing above. Keep scrolling to check out the items in question (the first grouping below). I also rounded up a range of other chic J.Crew pieces that could pique your interest.

I’m Scared of Commitment, so I Got a Made-to-Fade Tattoo

    [ad_1]

The ink itself is a major feat. Josh Sakhai, co-founder of Ephemeral, explains that the ink took six years of research and development to make and has gone through many different iterations since. You can also feel good about what’s going onto your skin. “Every single one of the materials in our ink is already FDA approved for use in medical devices, cosmetics, and drugs,” Sakhai says. “No tattoo ink is approved or regulated by the FDA. That being said, we took a ton of precautions because for us, that’s super important.”

Though it penetrates the dermis, or the inner layer of your skin, just like a normal tattoo, the ink has some major differences that make it special. “Permanent tattoos basically clump together and aggregate and become these larger blocks of ink that are too big for your body to remove,” Sakhai says. “So they stay permanent. Ephemeral ink does something similar and goes into your skin and clumps together, but our ink is made of biodegradable components that break down over time, and as [they] break down, your body’s able to remove them.”

For now, Ephemeral only has black ink, but Sakhai says other colors are on the horizon. Once the ink is mixed, it’s loaded into a tattoo pen.

I Can’t Get Enough of 2023’s Major Color Trend, and Neither Can Kendall Jenner

    [ad_1]

There is one hue that has been dominating lately, and its reach is undeniable when the likes of A-listers like Kendall Jenner are wearing it head to toe. The modern-day green era can most easily be pinned to Daniel Lee’s “Bottega green,” a kelly green that was most widely spread via his infamous accessories. But more recently, the green-sphere has expanded. It seems almost any shade goes, from buttery olive green to Nickelodeon slime neon.

In my own wardrobe, which is admittedly bright, I’ve noticed myself accenting with bright-green bags, tonal green looks (see above), and even green sunglasses. But green comes in all forms, and it doesn’t have to be as daring as green sunglasses. Use it as an accent to your simpler ensembles or choose a muted pistachio shade like Kendall Jenner’s below look with neutral accessories.

This Is the One Item I Always Wear When I Want to Look Chic and Cozy

    [ad_1]

Among my friends, I’ve always been known as the one who, despite working in the fashion industry, couldn’t care less about putting myself in pain for cute clothing. Sweats to go out for a nightcap on a Saturday? It’s more likely than you’d think.

My sense of style is at the intersection of cute and comfortable—a fresh take on the age-old grandma-chic look. I stopped wearing high heels a year ago, and black leggings are my go-to garment of choice. All of this is to say it takes a lot for me to adopt something into my wardrobe that doesn’t get me excited about fashion again. Enter the quilted jacket, a seasonal staple that’s the gift that keeps on giving.

If you aren’t converted yet, let me help you. Quilted jackets are my personal savior. As I’m someone who’s getting adjusted to living in New York from Miami (hello, seasons!), a slightly oversize jacket is the key to success. There’s a color and pattern for everyone, from vibrant patchwork pieces to iconic army-green garments à la The Frankie Shop. The beauty of a quilted jacket is its versatility. I’ve worn the style both over my sriracha-stained pajama pants and over an expensive-looking cashmere turtleneck. Truly, you can’t go wrong.

I like embellishments, dramatic layering, platform heels and over accessorizing as much as (if not more than) the next person, but admittedly, dressing to the nines at all times can leave anyone with a bit of decision fatigue.
