This writer first saw Miami darkwave deities Donzii play a mostly empty Blackstar in 2018 and was transfixed utterly. Just a few months ago this writer saw Donzii play a sold-out Abbey with Sextile and was again transfixed utterly.
Now, the band helmed by power couple Dennis Fuller and Jenna Balfe are — gasp! — decamping from their Miami home and heading west to Los Angeles, leaving Florida a much creatively poorer place.
On the way out, the band are playing Orlando at Will’s. Donzii has a long and friendly history with the Orlando music scene; since that first Blackstar show, they’ve played here once a year at spots ranging from Stonewall to Lou’s, driving crowds into a frenzy with their incredibly danceable post-punk symphonies. We might cry, but that’s pretty gothic.

The iron-lunged Anthrax vocalist Joey Belladonna always stood out among his thrash peers both for his impressive range and the unerring commitment to melody in his power-metal inspired vocals. Belladonna is currently out on the road solo, playing tribute sets to legendary belter Ronnie James Dio.
The much-missed Dio was a singular force in metal, with seminal stints in Rainbow, Black Sabbath, and solo [“Holy diivaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh!”]. The evening will see Belladonna and wife Krista leading a crack tribute band through his best-known numbers on this four-date Florida run.
Promised are “Holy Diver” and “Rainbow in the Dark” and “Neon Knights” and “Man on the Silver Mountain” and “Long,” among other anthems that would frighten parents and clergy … get those devil-horns ready.

Bedroom-pop artist Still Woozy is bringing his latest clutch of alternative psychedelic sounds to Orlando in a few days.
Still Woozy is the solo project of Portland-based singer-songwriter-producer Sven Gamsky, who’s been delivering a mix of homespun sounds since his first single, “Vacation,” in 2017.
His latest album, Loveseat, released earlier this year, falls in line with the artist’s unique brand of sonic psychedelia. Michelle opens the show.

A disciple of godly American Primitive guitarist John Fahey, a young Leo Kottke released his album of instrumental pieces 6- and 12-String Guitar in 1969, which became an unlikely hit and made Kottke a star. (Sales of the album also kept Fahey’s label Takoma in the black for years, likely to Fahey’s faint annoyance.)
The student maybe surpassed the master, with Kottke going on to craft 40 solo and ensemble albums over the years that have expanded kaleidoscopically on his deft and joyous merger of jazz, folk and roots sounds picked intricately on acoustic guitars.
Guitar Player mag, which loves a good shred, offered the corollary that Jimi is to the electric as Kottke is to the acoustic — and we see no lie there. The 76-year-old axeman is still alive and kicking, fingers still nimble and in rude creative form — so Steinmetz will soon ring with his cascades of notes and chords. (Might just be glorious.)
The similarly — but differently! — adventurous Julian Lage opens.

Indie rockers Bright Eyes have a lot on the horizon in 2025 — new music, a big tour, and a show in Orlando.
The Conor Oberst-led ensemble are set to drop upcoming album Five Dice, All Threes on Sept. 20. This will be the band’s 11th studio album, and their first since 2020.
Bright Eyes’ North American tour taking Five Dice to the masses kicks off in Phoenix in January of next year and runs through April. The tour hits Orlando in early March after two other Florida shows in Jacksonville and St. Pete.
Bright Eyes play the Beacham on Friday, March 7, 2025. Tickets are available now through TKX.

R&B icon Missy Elliott will be in Orlando for her first-ever headlining tour on Tuesday at the Kia Center. Elliott’s “Out of This World: The Experience Tour” brings out all of her unforgettable earworm beats and rhymes, augmented by the support of musical friends and creative family Ciara, Busta Rhymes and Timbaland.
In 2001, Elliott made her name with the seminal album Miss E … So Addictive, featuring singles like “Get Ur Freak On” and “One Minute Man.” “Get Ur Freak On” won multiple awards, including a Grammy and ASCAP awards for Rhythm and Soul and Pop Music.
She repeated the Grammy feat in 2003 with her single “Scream a.k.a. Itchin’.” She appeared in the 2015 Super Bowl with Katy Perry, which landed her the Innovator Award at the Billboard Women in Music Awards, was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2019, and last year Elliot became the first woman rap artist to enter the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Karl Marx once proclaimed that “religion is the opium of the masses.” Twenty-four-year old Atlanta rapper Ken Carson, meanwhile, is bringing his Opium record label roster to the masses in the form of his “A Great Chaos” tour.
The “Fighting My Demons” rapper, whose relationship with Orlando includes being arrested outside the Grand Bohemian Hotel in 2021 and performing with fellow Opium artist Destroy Lonely in 2022, is kicking off his tour at the Orlando Amphitheater on Monday.
Fans still waiting on Playboi Carti’s MUSIC album and disappointed in their scrapped “Antagonist” tour will certainly vamp together like it’s prime Project X time all over again.

Jhené Aiko hits Orlando this Saturday on her “Magic Hour” tour with openers Coi Leray, Tink, Umi and Kiana Lede, and this femme-forward show is bound to be a trip.
Aiko originally planned the Magic Hour trek in 2020 after releasing her album Chilomb, but the COVID-19 pandemic put the brakes on that.
In the meantime Aiko was far from idle, even releasing an R&B album for babies to sleep to, Sleep Soul, after giving birth to her second child in 2022. Aside from some festival appearances, this is Aiko’s first headlining tour in more than four years.
Aiko started out as a member of R&B outfit B2K in 2002, but now she makes her own brand of soul music suffused with elements of spirituality, netting her six Grammy nominations. The spiritual artist taps into her inner self live with elements of stagecraft that are symbolic and energy-related, including lights representing a colorful aura and a giant white flower opening up during the show.

The five-member Korean boy-band A.C.E. are back and coming to Orlando this Friday for their Rewind US tour.
Fresh from two years of mandatory military service in South Korea, the band is traveling to 14 cities across North America. (In true Elvis Presley fashion, the band dropped everything to serve in the country’s armed forces, but have regained momentum with ease.)
The reconvened A.C.E. in quick succession has dropped new mini-album My Girl: My Choice and the single “Supernatural”; My Girl: My Choice boasts a blend of English and Korean love songs with slight jazzy elements meshing with their signature pop flair. A.C.E promises to play fan favorites like “Savage,” “Under Cover,” “Goblin (Favorite Boys)” and more. And that’s an order.

There are few more dedicated boosters, archivists and chroniclers of the unhinged and overlooked far reaches of the Central Florida underground than Todd Lynne. Now known best as cryptic solo dream-pop phantom Haves&Thirds, Lynne has a long musical life dating back to his teens — and one of his most infamous outlets was skronk-rampagers Hepatitis Youth.
Lynne had been piecing together a documentary on the band, with the iconic title Just Say ‘No’ to No Wave, for several years now. This early-2000s noise-rock unit were infamous for both their uncompromising sonics and tendency to rip a set in unconventional spaces (including a hapless mall food court). They got a lot of their adventures on VHS and now you get to see it all. Also on the menu are a few other deep-Central Florida short films and a performance from Skeleton Warrior-adjacent (more vintage Central Floridian strangeness!) experimental duo Malverde.

The full lineup for this year’s Eat to the Beat concert series has finally been unveiled, with a mix of new and nostalgic acts across genre providing a sonic accompaniment to the International Food & Wine Festival at Epcot.
From late August through early mid-November, a rotating procession of acts from the 1980s through to the present day — including new-to-the-fest acts like Yellowcard, the Wanted and David Archuleta — will entertain attendees at the theme park’s popular International Food & Wine Festival.

Traveling music festival Punk in the Park promises plenty of punk and hardcore legends, along with craft beer, in Orlando for the first time late summer.
Set for mid-September and happening at the fairgrounds, Punk in the Park’s lineup includes Alkaline Trio, The Vandals, Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, T.S.O.L., The Dwarves [OK, sold] and Swingin’ Utters, with plenty more bands to be announced. Bands will be sprawled over two separate stages.
The day is also billed as a “Craft Beer Tasting Festival” so put down your cider and lager [olddddd punk reference that will fall flat].
Punk in the Park happens at the Orlando Amphitheater on Saturday, Sept. 14. Tickets are already on sale through the Festival’s website.

In just a few short months, Joe Biden and Donald Trump will be canvassing the country looking for votes — and rapper Sexyy Red will be too, as she takes her “Sexyy Red 4 President” tour to arenas all around the U.S.
The tour kicks off in late August in Seattle, with two Florida dates (in Tampa and Orlando) set for the latter part of the tour. Hunxho, Loe Shimmy, BlakeIANA and a promised special guest will be touring support throughout the trek.
The Sexyy Red 4 President Tour spins off the St. Louis rapper’s recent In Sexyy We Trust mixtape, keeping everything thematically airtight.

Organizers of gargantuan annual EDM fest Electric Daisy Carnival have announced the list of performers for this autumn’s event, and it features an eye-popping 100-plus performers.
This year’s lineup includes Diplo, Alesso, Eric Prydz, Kaskade, Tiësto, John Summit, Fisher, Alison Wonderland, Illenium, Mochakk, Slander, Oliver Heldens, Benny Benassi, Dimitri Vegas, Steve Aoki, Carl Cox, Vintage Culture, Jaden Thompson, Natalia Roth, Layla Benitez, Lost Frequencies, Odd Mob, Troyboi and Zeds Dead.
The performers will be sprawled over four stages: kineticFIELD, circuitGROUNDS, neonGARDEN and stereoBLOOM. Additionally, the Rynobus Art Car (is it a mobile stage? a “mutant vehicle”? both?) will give a daylong spotlight to Orlando’s infamous Florida breaks sound.
Electric Daisy Carnival happens Friday-Sunday, Nov. 8-10, at Tinker Field in downtown Orlando. Tickets and passes go on sale starting Thursday, June 27, through the festival’s website.

Pop-punk icons Blink-182 and emo band Pierce the Veil may very well make fans want to “take off their pants and jacket,” and who would blame them with this hot lineup?
After co-vocalist and guitarist Tom DeLonge rejoined in Blink-182 in 2022 — after a seven-year absence — the band released a track, “Edging,” to mark the occasion. This tour serves as further notice of the trio being back together, revisiting hits like “I Miss You” and “All The Small Things” and even releasing new music — like recent album One More Time.
With openers jxdn and Pierce the Veil, the audience is sure to have nostalgic flashbacks of, say, skating around the neighborhood listening to Collide With the Sky … or other emo anthems to soothe the bruises from falling off said board.
