Beacon’s new Principal is Mr. Sergio Bonilla, formerly the Middle School Principal of Miami’s tuition-free charter school HIVE Preparatory School. Beacon’s new Governing Board Liaison is Mr. Carlos Gonzalez who is also currently the Executive Director of HIVE Prep.

    ​​College-bound cowboy Wesley Fowler has been named the top winner in LearningRx’s national Student of the Year competition, celebrating the top brain training results across the country.

    “His entire life, all Wesley wanted to be was a farmer,” says Jennifer Huntington, executive director of LearningRx Cary, where Wesley completed personal brain training. “Every grade counted toward his GPA, which was his ticket to getting into the agricultural program at North Carolina State.”

    But Wesley struggled academically. He would study for hours only to get a poor grade on a test. His mother Kelley, who is a teacher at Wesley’s school, had tried everything she could to try to help Wesley.     The Coalition for Responsible Community Development (CRCD) is proud to announce the grand opening of the Vernon-Central Network YouthSource Center, sponsored by the City of Los Angeles Economic and Workforce Development Department (EWDD), in Los Angeles Council District 9.

    The new Vernon-Central Network YouthSource Center is overseen by EWDD and is one of 14 centers citywide that offer educational and career readiness services for disconnected youth ages 16 to 24 who are neither in school nor working. CRCD, in partnership with All Peoples Community Center and the Los Angeles Conservation Corps, operate the center. CRCD works with Clifford Beers Housing to operate the historic 28th Street YMCA, where the YouthSource will be housed, to bring free services to the area’s most vulnerable.
