A little bit of Nashville is coming to Cleveland

    – The former Greenhouse/Indie/Gabriel’s Southern Table space should stop being a revolving door after Jolene’s, a new country bar, opens there early next year.

    – Nighttown the original made it many decades. Version 2.0 didn’t last a year.

    – Spend one of the last weekends of summer getting stinky at the Cleveland Garlic Festival this weekend.

    – Does it feel like a million new restaurants opened this year? You’re not far off. How many have you tried?

Artis Restaurant to open in Lakewood on August 21st.

    – We’re just days away from the debut of Artis in the former Side Quest spot in Lakewood, which Chef-owner Andrew Mansour describes as “a steakhouse that’s not a steakhouse.”

    – The Corky and Lenny’s spot in Woodmere didn’t sit vacant long: It’ll soon be home to yet another location of the local Kintaro sushi and hot pot chain.

    – Shawn Monday last year decided to do some major reworking of his properties in Hudson, which included closing One Red Door and revamping the interior and menu. The result: Porta Rossa, an Italian-themed steakhouse that opened its doors recently.

    – On the pasta front, Scene Dining Editor Doug Trattner raved about his visit to Scorpacciata in Larchmere, noting how the brick-and-mortar space has given Chef Peter Reuter room to elevate his offerings from what had been served at two small stalls at Van Aken Market Hall.

Birdietown, a mini golf-themed venue, to open in Lakewood in the fall.

There’s a whole lot to catch up on, so let’s get started.

    – Birdietown, a new mini golf lounge and restaurant, is poised to open in Lakewood. Along with 18 holes of indoor, adults-only putt-putt, look forward to a menu designed by Chef Jill Vedaa.

    – Staying in Lakewood, there’s been a change of ownership at Rood Food and it’s a positive one.

    – Industry folks and dedicated home chefs know and love Service Wet Grinding, which has been keeping local knives sharp for more than a century. After selling off the business, the landmark Cleveland institution is no more and home chefs will have to find a new solution to keep their sticks sharp.
    – Sweet Pork Wilson’s, right on the Lakewood and Cleveland border, has carved itself a slice of the local BBQ scene.

    – Ohio City Pizzeria will call it a day after tomorrow.
    – Charter House Grille on East 185th, located in the former Bistro 185 spot, is now open.

    – Now that we’re nearing the end of the summer, we took stock of the restaurants that we’ve lost so far this year.

STEAK in Tremont to open first week of August.

    – The team behind Geraci’s Slice Shop downtown and The Yard on 3rd in Willoughby is set, in partnership with former Guardians manager Terry Francona, to debut STEAK in Tremont come the first week of August. Aiming for a trendy, affordable steakhouse option, the team offers a prix fixe, all-inclusive menu that starts at just $35 for a picanha cut with sides.
    – The familiar Platform brewpub space on Lorain has sat vacant since February 2023, when Anheuser-Busch shuttered the local craft brewery. Thankfully, that spot has finally been claimed. David Kovatch will soon open Sacred Vortex Teahouse and Kombuchery, a “safe space” for people to come and build community.
    – A wine dive bar? It makes total sense, especially in the hands of Jackie Ramey and Dan Deagan, who’ve long dreamt of just that idea. Here’s what to expect at Wine Dive, which is now open in Lakewood in the former El Carnicero spot.
    – Seems like a lovely weekend for brunch, don’t you think? Here are some recommendations.

A sandwich from the newly opened Affettati in Little Italy.

    – A nondescript storefront in Little Italy is preparing some simple but amazing sandwiches. The secret sauce behind Affettati is the fresh-baked bread, which is used to cradle a few choice ingredients like fresh mozzarella, sliced prosciutto, and a small number of condiments.
    – After operating places like Lox, Stock and Brisket and the Rice Shop, Anthony Zappola wanted to create a place that could deliver high-quality foods in a swift, streamlined manner. He has achieved that goal at Tripi, which is located in Ohio City.
    – The former Campbell’s Sweets space in Ohio City will become home to another Build the Pho, a build-your-own-bowl-style noodle shop with a location in University Circle.
    – Sauce the City in University Heights is closing this Saturday after two and a half years.
    – But Angie’s Soul Cafe is opening a new restaurant in the same spot in the coming weeks.

Charter House Grille is opening August 8th on East 185th Street.

    – The former Bistro 185 space has looked like it has been sitting completely dormant for years, but Chris King has been quietly and diligently working on the spot since taking ownership and is about ready to debut Charter House, which opens in August.
    – The Forward Hospitality team is at it again, this time with Hi 5, a new sports bar in the Flats that recently opened sporting river views and some tasty BBQ.
    – Our guide to all the farmers markets you should be shopping this summer.
    – Finally, there are still a few days left to catch all the Cleveland Burger Week bargains around Northeast Ohio.
