  • Christian actor reveals pressure of playing Jesus’ most beloved disciple in Fox Nation series

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Christian actor Alister Hawke knew he had “big shoes to fill” when stepping into the role of the Apostle John, Jesus’ beloved disciple whose obedience and devotion kept him at the foot of the cross with Mary until the very end.

“There’s a certain reverence when you play a character like John the Apostle,” Hawke said Sunday on “Fox & Friends Weekend.”

“What creates that reverence is their obedience, their faithfulness, and their consistency to the task at hand.”

In the new season of Fox Nation’s “Jesus Crown of Thorns,” Hawke brings a deeply human portrayal to what he views as an ordinary person living in “extraordinary circumstances.”

His faith, Hawke explained, added both responsibility and perspective to the role, pushing him to approach John’s story with humility while exploring the flawed nature of the disciples who followed Christ in a time of immense uncertainty and opposition.

“I won’t lie if I say it didn’t add a sort of another layer of pressure, but in the best way possible,” he said of his faith.

“You want to do justice to these people and tell their story, and I’ve always been really passionate about exploring the context of these stories and making sure that things aren’t just taken at base value, and we can really drill into those beautiful moments and those stories, but also the contextual side of things.”

  • DR MARC SIEGEL: How faith and gratitude can still work wonders in a fractured nation

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

At a time of great political division, we need common ground to bring us back together. Most of us believe in miracles. A recent Gallup poll revealed that three in four Americans identify with a specific religious faith – a majority as Christians, and nearly half say that faith is very important in their lives. We can use this to unite us as a country.

When we learn that someone has miraculously survived a cardiac arrest — as NFL safety Damar Hamlin did on a football field in Cincinnati in 2023, or Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., did on a baseball field following a gunshot back in 2017 — the last thing we think about is whether they are a Democrat or a Republican.

As I describe in my new book, “The Miracles Among Us,” in Rep. Scalise’s case, the doctors who performed the combined interventional radiological and surgical procedure to repair his badly torn iliac artery after transferring 50 units of transfused blood both said this was the most miraculous event of their careers. They also believe that Scalise’s “gratitude to God” played a direct role in his recovery.

DR MARC SIEGEL: MY PERSONAL MIRACLE: A PHYSICIAN’S LESSONS IN FAITH AND HEALING

Scalise told me, “I never felt fear. Once I put my life in God’s hands, an unbelievable calm and ease came over me. My mind went to a different place. Whatever was going to happen that day was up to God, and he got me through, and I felt Him throughout my recovery.”

Several of the subjects in my book report that when experiencing a miracle, a calm comes over them knowing that their lives are in God’s hands.

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., walks with his wife Jennifer from the House chamber to his office in the Capitol on his first day back in Congress on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017. Scalise was shot during baseball practice for the Congressional Baseball Game in June 2017.

Dr. Robert Montgomery, chief of surgery at NYU, experienced seven cardiac arrests before having a heart transplant. “In these experiences, I feel a connection to a vastness, a connection to something much bigger than my experiences on earth. I start becoming aware of my own breath, and at first, I’m not sure what the sound is. And just before the moment when all my thoughts and memories are coming back, I am conscious of transcendence that’s way beyond anything that’s human or of this planet Earth we are on. I feel calm and serene. I feel my soul right before I am in my body. As I am waking up there is this overlap of awareness of this vastness and then knowing that I am a living being.”

Several of the subjects in my book report that when experiencing a miracle, a calm comes over them knowing that their lives are in God’s hands.

Montgomery says this experience helps him to be at peace with who he is, and has enabled him to be a far more effective doctor and surgeon.

Jordan Grafman, a neurophysiologist at Northwestern University, has recently discovered via functional MRI imaging and brain lesion mapping that belief in miracles relies on similar networks in the right side and the front part of the brain as partisan political belief does. Moreover, both politics and spirituality are experienced similarly and lead to a desire to be part of a common community — suggesting one can sometimes replace the other.

DAMAR HAMLIN SUFFERED CARDIAC ARREST DURING GAME, HEARTBEAT RESTORED ON FIELD, BILLS SAY

Indeed, I do not believe a rigid separation of church and state is good for either patient care or for society. Why should a deeply religious physician leave his or her vestments or tallis at the door of the hospital or medical office? Why shouldn’t a pious physician pray with his or her patients the way that Congressman Scalise’s doctors did?

Consider that the acknowledgment of a higher being who is in charge may lessen a person’s desire to fear or contest another. “Fear God, not your fellow man” is the lesson from both Scalise’s and Montgomery’s experiences. It is a common theme in many religions– and it can help to ease the anger that fuels our politics.

  • New film ‘Oracles of God’ aims to inspire faith as Bible interest surges across America

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

A new film billed as the New Testament’s “origin story” aims to make an impact as younger generations show an increasing interest in faith and the Bible.

“I could not have looked two years ahead and seen the interest in the Bible that we see now,” filmmaker Erin Zimmerman told Fox News Digital. “Last year, Bible sales were up 22%, and this year they’re up 36%. I couldn’t have planned a more perfect time for this film to come out.”

Zimmerman is the four-time Emmy-nominated filmmaker behind “Oracles of God: The Story of the New Testament,” a new CBN Films documentary that explores how the New Testament was written and preserved.

It will screen in theaters nationwide Nov. 2, 3 and 5 and serves as the second installment in her five-part series on the origins and evidence of Scripture. The first film, focused on the Old Testament, premiered in 2023.

While living in Israel in 2017, Zimmerman said she felt called by God to create a documentary series that treated Scripture from a “pure” standpoint, not as “secret” or “mistranslated,” as she believes some secular productions have done.

She described “Oracles of God” as the New Testament’s “origin story,” tracing how the Gospels and letters came together and why the early accounts of Jesus and the apostles still matter today.

Filming was delayed by both the COVID-19 pandemic and the Hamas attack on Israel in October 2023. Zimmerman now sees that timing as providential, saying the experience deepened her faith and strengthened bonds with her Israeli crew.

She said she could not have foreseen that, two years later, renewed spiritual interest would sweep the culture.

The release comes amid a growing hunger for faith-based entertainment, with series like “House of David” on Amazon Prime and “The Chosen” continuing to draw large audiences.

Bible sales also jumped 36% in September following the assassination of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk, according to a recent Wall Street Journal analysis, which previously reported a 22% boom in Bible sales in 2024.

Zimmerman said the recent turbulence of world events has left many young people “searching for peace.”

She believes figures like Kirk, a devout Christian who frequently quoted Scripture online, have inspired many younger Americans to explore Christianity, believing it might offer the meaning and purpose they’ve been missing.

“They’re seeing Charlie Kirk on TikTok and seeing all the times that he quoted the Bible and that he was calm and that he was happy,” she said. “I think something about that really appealed to them, and they said, ‘I don’t have that in my life.’”

Zimmerman said the documentary is the most accessible of the series and addresses common objections to the Bible’s accuracy, such as claims that it has been mistranslated or changed over centuries. The film draws on scholarship and historical evidence to show how early Jewish and Christian scribes handled Scripture with “great care and reverence,” she explained, noting that thousands of preserved Greek manuscripts of the New Testament help confirm its reliability.

She said the next film in the series, “Creating the Canon,” will examine how the books of the Bible were selected and compiled.

  • Beyond misperception: A renewed Korean democracy and a renewed alliance

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

It has been a turbulent yet inspiring year for Koreans. A declaration of martial law last winter plunged the nation into uncertainty, but what followed was not chaos – it was the reaffirmation of a people’s unshakable faith in democracy.

The “Revolution of Light,” culminating in the peaceful election of a new government, reminded the world that the Republic of Korea’s constitutional order rests not on the will of any ruler, but on the collective conscience of its citizens.

Some observers abroad have mistaken the intensity of Korea’s political transition for fragility or deviation from democratic norms. In truth, such intensity is the very pulse of democracy itself. Our debates are often fierce, our elections passionately contested, yet our institutions endure. That resilience – born of experience, sacrifice, and civic discipline – is Korea’s greatest democratic asset.

President Donald Trump greets South Korean President Lee Jae Myung upon his arrival at the White House on Aug. 25, 2025, in Washington, D.C. (Chen Mengtong/China News Service/VCG via Getty Images)

Since taking office, President Lee Jae Myung has acted swiftly to reinforce the foundations of democracy at home and to renew the Republic of Korea’s partnership with the United States. In word and deed, President Lee has recognized the vital importance of the ROK-U.S. alliance and strengthened pragmatic cooperation with President Donald Trump, and put our interlocking security and economic objectives, and shared values at the heart of his agenda.

TRUMP DELIVERED PEACE AND A FUTURE WHERE OTHERS ONLY TALKED

This approach reflects Korea’s confidence as a mature democracy and responsible global partner. President Lee views the alliance not merely as a legacy of the past, but as a living partnership, adapting to new challenges – from regional security and economic cooperation to advanced future technology.

This vision was clear at their August summit, where the two leaders spoke with candor and mutual respect, underscoring their shared determination to build what they called a “Future-Oriented Comprehensive Strategic Alliance.” President Trump’s remark, “We’ve gotten along very well,” captured the new tone of trust shaping this alliance.

President Lee and the whole of the Korean government have meticulously ensured that even as we focus on restoring our democratic system, we not flail for one second in our responsibilities as friend and ally.  This makes certain commentaries – portraying Korea’s new leadership as undemocratic, illegitimate or even hostile to religion – so bewildering and saddening. Such claims, often repeated in online forums and even on opinion pages, bear little resemblance to facts and hinder our joint efforts for real solutions.

HOW TRUMP’S RELENTLESS MIDDLE EAST GAMBLE FINALLY FLIPPED THE SCRIPT

Let’s set the record straight: The government of the Republic of Korea was democratically elected. President Lee prevailed in a fair and transparent vote recognized around the world for meeting the highest election standards. Neither Korea’s independent judiciary nor its opposition parties objected to the result.

Since then, the principles of the rule of law have been scrupulously observed. Ongoing legal proceedings concerning the previous administration’s declaration of martial law and other alleged abuses of power are being conducted by independent prosecutors appointed by the National Assembly – not by the Presidential Office. These legal proceedings demonstrate the rule of law, not the erosion of it.

Equally unfounded are recent claims that the new government is “anti-Christian.” Such narratives appear to arise from ongoing investigations into bribery allegations involving church funds, but for people familiar with Korea, the notion of prejudice is demonstrably absurd.

Christianity, along with Buddhism and other faiths, has played an integral role in Korea’s social and cultural life. Christian missionaries helped establish many of the nation’s leading educational and medical institutions, countless Christians sacrificed their lives for Korea’s independence from Japanese colonial rule.

THATCHER AT 100: LESSONS IN CIVILITY, STRENGTH AND ENDURING ALLIANCES

Today, a large share of Korean population identifies as Christian, with millions of both Protestants and Catholics contributing to the fabric of Korean society. These individuals, like people of all faiths, continue to play a vital role in civic life, community service and the pursuit of national unity.

President Lee himself is a man of Christian faith. He and his administration have the deepest respect for freedom of religion and expression, which our Constitution enshrines. They, like all Koreans, are unambiguously proud of the legacy of Christianity and believe freedom of religion in the Republic of Korea rivals that of any place in the world.

To portray legitimate, lawful efforts to restore democratic order as a campaign against Christianity is not only misleading, but it undermines Christian legacy and respect for religious freedoms that are central to Korea’s democratic values.

As Koreans committed to democracy, vigorous debate and even disagreement are more than welcomed. It is what the new Korean government strove so vigorously to safeguard these past four months. But mischaracterizing all that has occurred does nothing to advance mutual understanding or produce real solutions for the Koreans and Americans alike.

The Republic of Korea and the United States have sustained our alliance through eight decades of bravery and sacrifice. Today’s challenges require nothing less. Under President Lee’s government, Americans can be assured that they have a friend and partner who shares core values and is committed to the success of both of our nations.

Look no further than their summit on Aug. 25 where the two leaders ushered in the era of a “Future-oriented Comprehensive Strategic Alliance” – one that looks confidently toward a more secure, democratic and prosperous future for both nations. Korea’s story is not one of uncertainty but of conviction: that a free people, tested by history, can renew both their democracy and their alliance with courage and grace.

  • Megachurch founder finishes church’s restoration process after stepping down due to undisclosed transgression

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Dr. Tony Evans, the Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship founder who announced last year that he was stepping away from his pastoral role because he had fallen short of the standards in God’s Word, submitted himself to the “church’s discipline and restoration process,” associate pastor of outreach Chris Wheel announced on Sunday, while noting that Evans will not resume a leadership role with the church.

“In alignment with biblical principles and unanimous affirmation of the elder board, Dr. Evans has successfully completed this restoration journey,” Wheel said.

“While he will not be returning in a staff nor leadership role at OCBF, we joyfully look forward to seeing how God uses Dr. Evans’ gifts and calling to proclaim the truth of scripture with clarity and conviction for the strengthening of the body of Christ,” he noted.

Jonathan Evans, one of Tony Evans’ sons, is currently listed as lead pastor on the church’s website. Wheel noted that “Jonathan Evans has been appointed as an elder, and our expectation is that he will formally be installed as the lead pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship.”

Jonathan Evans told his father that he is proud of him.

“It’s one thing to watch you preach the Word. It’s another thing to watch you live under its authority even when it hurts,” he said.

In a June 2024 statement, Tony Evans indicated that he had committed some sort of transgression, but while he said he had not perpetrated a crime, he did not disclose details about the nature of the wrongdoing.

“The foundation of our ministry has always been our commitment to the Word of God as the absolute supreme standard of truth to which we are to conform our lives. When we fall short of that standard due to sin, we are required to repent and restore our relationship with God. A number of years ago, I fell short of that standard. I am, therefore, required to apply the same biblical standard of repentance and restoration to myself that I have applied to others,” he said in part of the statement.

“While I have committed no crime, I did not use righteous judgment in my actions. Pope Leo XIV told the new U.S. ambassador to the Holy See, Brian Burch, that he is praying for conservative activist Charlie Kirk, as well as his wife and children, following his murder last week in Utah, the Vatican said on Tuesday.

Leo also expressed concern about political violence and addressed the need “to refrain from rhetoric and exploitation that lead to polarization rather than dialogue,” Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni said in a statement, according to Vatican News.

The pope’s remarks came on Saturday, when he received the ambassador in an audience to receive his credentials, marking the first meeting between the two.

“The pope confirmed that he is praying for Charlie Kirk,” Bruni said.

Kirk, the 31-year-old co-founder of Turning Point USA, was shot and killed during an event on the campus of Utah Valley University in Orem on Sept. 10. He was transported to a hospital in critical condition before he was later pronounced dead.

The alleged gunman was identified as Tyler Robinson, 22, whose family persuaded him to turn himself in after a two-day manhunt. Robinson has been charged with aggravated murder in connection with Kirk’s killing.

  • World’s oldest known nursing home discovered in ruins of ancient Christian city, dates back 1,600 years

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Archaeologists in Israel have uncovered a 1,600-year-old Christian care facility for the elderly – a remarkable find that may be the world’s oldest nursing home.

The news, reported by Israel’s news agency TPS-IL, was announced by the University of Haifa on Aug. 18.

The care facility was found in the ruins of the ancient city of Hippos near the Sea of Galilee. The Christian city was a significant bishop’s seat in the region during the Byzantine era.

LUXURIOUS 1,700-YEAR-OLD ROMAN BATHHOUSE UNEARTHED BY ARCHAEOLOGISTS AFTER SURPRISE DISCOVERY

While excavating the ruins, archaeologists from the University of Haifa’s Zinman Institute of Archaeology were struck by a floor design at the entrance of an ancient building.

The mosaic’s message read, “Peace be with the elders,” in Koine Greek. It was found around 320 feet from Hippos’ central plaza, inside one of the city’s residential blocks.

Dating back to the fourth or fifth century A.D., archaeologists are convinced that the building was a designated facility for older residents.

“It shows that Byzantine society established not only religious centers but also places dedicated to dignity and care for its seniors.”

Some sources from the fifth and sixth centuries record the existence of elderly care facilities, making the discovery unique but not entirely without precedent. The inscription may also be the first physical evidence of such an institution.

Researchers posit that the message was intentionally placed at the entrance of the building, in order to designate its purpose to elderly residents and visitors.

The symbols on the mosaic – cyrpress trees, fruit and Egyptian geese – also complement the Greek text, with researchers interpreting them as deliberate choices.

For example, cypress trees were associated with everlasting life, while fruits symbolized abundance and eternal life. Egyptian geese, on the other hand, often represented blessed souls in ancient iconography.

Directly referencing elders in such a manner is exceptionally rare in ancient inscriptions, underscoring the significance of the find.

In a statement, Michael Eisenberg, Ph.D., said that the mosaic “offers a tangible, dated, and clear indication of an institution designed for the elderly.”

“This is living proof that care and concern for the elderly are not just a modern idea, but were part of social institutions and concepts as far back as about 1,600 years ago,” Eisenberg observed, according to TPS-IL.

“This was a communal and spiritual institution integrated into the fabric of city life and reflecting the social values of the period,” the researchers said in a statement, as TPS-IL noted.
