10 Marvel Actors Who Took Home Props From Their Movies

Being an actor in a Marvel movie seems like a pretty sweet gig. You get to bring an iconic comic book character to life for millions of fans. And while the costume may not always be comfy — in fact, quite a few actors openly hated their ensembles — you sometimes get to take home a cool souvenir. Yes, that’s right. Some Marvel actors have been lucky enough to walk away from set with a piece of movie magic, whether it’s a prop, a wardrobe piece, or even a part of the set.

In some cases, these tokens are given to the actors as presents to thank them for a job well done. But Marvel isn’t always so keen on handing props over to actors to keep for good. For example, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu asked the producers if he could take home a pair of his character’s shoes, but his request was denied. That’s why some actors simply steal their desired prop and hope nobody notices. Many of them have even gotten away with it, too — until they confess to their stolen treasures in interviews. Of course, no Marvel actor has gotten in serious trouble from taking home a prop. After all, it’s quite hard to imagine an A-list actor such as Tom Holland or Ryan Reynolds getting in trouble for simply bringing home a bit of their character with them.

Chris Pratt opens up about meeting wife Katherine Schwarzenegger at church when he was

Chris Pratt opened up about meeting his wife, Katherine Schwarzenegger, at church, saying it was a time in his life when he was “struggling and felt really broken.” While speaking to Drew Barrymore on her talk show Tuesday, Pratt said he was “sneaking glances” at Schwarzenegger while he was in the front row at church.

“You kind of don’t want to be like, ‘Whoa, who is that?’ at church, you know what I mean,” he said. “But I was kind of sneaking some glances and I was like, ‘Who is that? Any way, what am I doing? Come on, I’m broken, help me.’” He said they didn’t start dating right after they met.

“God has a fast-forward button,” he said. “When it’s right, boom. You fall in love, you get married. Now we have two beautiful daughters to add to my family.”

“My own journey, finding a higher power and leaning on that and being like, ‘please save me,’ and then feeling saved. And then shortly later finding the woman of my dreams,” he said, adding that you just need “faith.”

He said he and Schwarzenegger, whose father is actor and former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, fit together like puzzle pieces.

Pratt also said his mother-in-law, Maria Shriver, loves setting up couples, calling her “Matchmaker Maria,” and said she could help Barrymore.

“Well, I’ve been single for seven years, maybe I should try something,” Barrymore said, adding she’s ready for “something fun and easy.”

In an interview last week, Pratt opened up about what it was like being the son-in-law of Schwarzenegger, known for movies like “The Terminator,” and smoking cigars with him. “I mean there’s nothing manlier than Arnold Schwarzenegger smoking a cigar,” he said on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.” “And when you’re bringing his granddaughter into the world, he comes and brings you a cigar and he’s like, ‘Let’s go out and smoke these.’”

While Pratt has asthma, he decided to indulge. “And then woke up the next day: Massive lung infection,” he said. “There’s peer pressure, and then there’s Arnold Schwarzenegger peer pressure.”

Pratt married Katherine Schwarzenegger in 2019 and the couple shares two daughters, Eloise and Lyla, together. He was previously married to actress Anna Faris, with whom he shares a son, Jack. The two divorced in 2018.

  • Chris Pratt Reveals Himself To Be a Mid-Level Gamer in ‘Tonight Show’ Bit

Chris Pratt Reveals Himself To Be a Mid-Level Gamer in ‘Tonight Show’ Bit

We’re less than a week away from the release of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, a motion picture that will do unto the portfolios of Comcast shareholders what a super mushroom does to the titular acrobatic plumber in the game upon which the film is based. (Enlarge is what we’re going for here, on the off-chance you’ve never picked up a Nintendo controller.)

Chris Pratt, who voices the lead role in the kid-friendly animated action-adventure flick, is on the campaign trail, and he stopped at Rockefeller Center to appear on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Friday. He didn’t just do an interview on the couch, however. He found himself engaged in one of Jimmy Fallon’s corny-and-yet-I-can-not-turn-away bits, strapped in for a round of video game trivia opposite the show’s host, both with toilet plungers on their heads. Glamor profession!

Tonight Show announcer Steve Higgins acted as quizmaster, firing off button-mashing questions to both men as they sat in barber chairs beneath Mario-esque green pipes. The loser, it was promised, would have stuff rain upon them. (Alas, those looking for a You Can’t Do That on Television-style slime attack had to settle for some golden confetti.)

What follows in the bit is clear: Pratt’s knowledge of video games is pretty mid-tier. He got the ultra-easy ones (like naming one of the first six games inducted into the Video Game Hall of Fame) but when it came to listing the last of the Pac-Man ghosts he whiffed it.

Fallon got that one wrong, too, but at least was in the ballpark—knowing it was some random dude’s name. (He failed to recall that name was Clyde.) Moreover, he was able to pull the name Miyamoto out of his ear when asked to name the creator of Donkey Kong.

While Pratt didn’t exactly fail here—it wasn’t like he got stung on the eyeball by a bee after poking its hive—Fallon performed more honorably. We therefore salute him, so long as we don’t have to get off the couch until we finish one more level.

Considering the massive love for the property and that the same studio behind Minions is pushing it, all signs point to Pratt and The Super Mario Bros. Movie having a tremendous hit and robust franchise on their hands. However, we would be remiss if we did not bring up the 1993 version of this story, which starred Bob Hoskins, Dennis Hopper, John Leguizamo, and Samantha Mathis. Whether or not Super Mario Bros. is actually good or just insane remains open to debate. One thing is for certain: nothing Pratt or anyone else will ever do to promote the new project will touch this clip of Hoskins from back in the day.

‘Mario Rap’ Makes Comeback In Super Mario Bros. Movie Super Bowl Commercial

Another new trailer for the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie has been released today, part of the onslaught of expensive and lengthy Super Bowl commercials, and while that’s usually enough to rot the brains of even the most online among us, I can assure you, this one is fantastic.

Unlike every previous trailer, which are actual trailers featuring snippets from the movie, this is a new take on the Mario Rap, the classic intro from the Super Mario Bros. Super Show, the live-action series that ran from 1989-1991.

Here, in case you need a refresher, is the original:

And here is the 2023 version:

I haven’t called that number because I’m not the in the US, but that website is indeed up and running, and is everything you would hope it would be from a struggling small business servicing the Brooklyn and Queens areas. There’s excessive animation, broken image links, a careers page (still under construction, sadly) and even a novelty mouse cursor.

    UPDATE: Hahahaha the number works:

Best of all, though, are the testimonials, including one from Spike, who is actually the brothers’ boss, and who is making an appearance in the movie (he’ll be played by comedian Sebastian Maniscalco).

It’s weird that one of the things people have been most interested about as far as the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie is concerned is how everyone sounds. I mean, we know who the cast is, have known that forever, but what we haven’t known is the extent to which each actor was going to ham it up.

It’s why everyone has been so obsessed with Chris Pratt’s Mario, and why Jack Black seems perfect as Bowser because…he’s done that voice 1000 times and he was born for the role. One major voice we haven’t heard yet, though, is Seth Rogen’s Donkey Kong, and it was also one that could have gone in any number of directions.

  • Chris Pratt Pokes Beehive, Gets Stung in the Eyeball

Chris Pratt Pokes Beehive, Gets Stung in the Eyeball

Marvel movies are known for their stingers, but usually they come after the closing credits. This time, Chris Pratt, star of the Guardians of the Galaxy sub-franchise within the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe, took to Instagram late Thursday to detail his recent encounter with a pugilistic bee.

“So I’ve been following this bee lady,” he began with a bit of a grimace from behind dark glasses. “She’s so cool and brave,” he continued, speaking about Erika Thompson of Texas Bee Works. Pratt marveled at how she will approach hives and say “they’re very calm today. I’m going to remove the bee. I’m going to use my bare hands to sift through the bees and look for the queen.”

The 43-year-old star’s admiration then turned to a (joking) condemnation. “It’s built up this false sense of security in me, to where’s I said ‘I think I can control bees, too.’”

You probably know where this is headed. A few days ago, Pratt saw a beehive, approached it, and, despite a bystander’s warning (“be careful, there’s bees!”), the Hollywood A-Lister and former Bubba Gump Shrimp Company employee figured he was invincible. “They look very calm,” he said, because that’s what the bee lady says.

“Then one of them stung me in the eyeball,” he said, before removing his sunglasses to reveal the result of his apoidean tussle—a still puffed-out face. “Anyway, [bleep] that bee lady,” he concluded.

In his caption he tagged Thompson, and wrote “@texasbeeworks you inspire me! But for real tho…”

    Instagram content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

Thompson, clearly keeping tabs on Pratt’s resumé of forthcoming work, wrote back, “Wait—so now you’re going to be a plumber and a beekeeper @prattprattpratt?! If you leave saving the bees to me and other professionals, you can focus on saving the Princess, Mario.”

Also in the comments, Pratt’s Guardians co-star Pom Klementieff responded with a “Noooooooo” and an “ouch.” Patrick Schwarzenegger fired off an “Lmao,” while UFC president Dana White went even further with an “LMFAO!!!!” Pratt’s The Terminal List co-star Jeanne Tripplehorn was a little more thoughtful with an “OH NO” (and bee emoji) while Sean Hayes came in with an additional sting, asking, “which eye?”

According to the CDC, there is an average 62 deaths per year from bee, wasp, or hornet stings in the United States. Of them, 80 percent of the deaths are among males. To that end, we at V.F. hope that the other Hollywood Chrises learn from Pratt’s error, leave the beekeeping to the professionals, and buy their honey from local vendors.

When Nintendo uploaded the first promotional image for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, fans were quick to clown on the plumber for his concave ass. The looming question on everyone’s mind was whether or not Mario’s one-time nemesis Donkey Kong would have his ass nerfed too. Thankfully, DK has enough junk in the trunk to make up for Mario’s shortcomings. Yes, it’s going to be that kind of blog.

Yesterday, Nintendo premiered the second Super Mario Bros. Movie trailer. Outside of being a better trailer than the first one by virtue of it featuring a girlboss Princess Peach and a cavalcade of easter egg references for fans to comb over, it also came with the added bonus of Donkey Kong doing to Mario what a majority of viewers want to do to Chris Pratt’s voice: beating the daylights out of it. But we’re not here to talk about Chris Pratt’s voice, I already did that. We’re here to talk about Donkey Kong’s badonkadonk.

If you weren’t too busy cheering for Donkey Kong straight jobbing Mario in a bout of fisticuffs, chances are your curious eyes wandered toward the derrière of the caked-up barrel-throwing ape. Truly, any and all crimes Illumination Studios committed by unleashing the Minions upon humanity hath been redeemed thanks to the authenticity it brought to Kong’s glorious ass. Illumination even gave Kong a snatched waist to boot, so you know old boy can throw that thang back around in a circle like the best of them. But don’t just take my word for it. Here’s what fans had to say about DK’s ass online.

“Thank christ, they keep his clappers,” one Twitter user wrote.

“Damn— Donkey Kong is double cheeked up, hella ass, the sun is still out,” wrote another.

“Not feeling it, but Donkey Kong has the butt. So at least, if nothing else, they got that right,” another observed.

“He’s gonna carry the twerking scene,” another replied.

The jury is still out on there being a twerking scene in The Super Mario Bros. Movie but if the Minions presenting their TicTac asses for their promotional material is anything to go by, chances are we’re at least gonna get more than a cheeky side angle of Kong’s booty meat when the movie finally hits theaters on April 7.

  • Twitter Weighs In On Chris Pratt In New Trailer For ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’

Twitter Weighs In On Chris Pratt In New Trailer For ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’

    By Brent Furdyk.

Get ready to dive into the video-game world of Nintendo’s most famous plumbers with a new trailer for “The Super Mario Bros. Movie”.

Chris Pratt voices the titular Mario, a casting decision that has caused controversy due to the fact that he’s decidedly not Italian.

As the trailer demonstrates, however, Pratt isn’t brandishing the kind of over-the-top Italian accent that had been feared, instead using his own voice.

In addition to the “Guardians of the Galaxy” star, the voice cast also includes Charlie Day as Mario’s brother, Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, and Keegan-Michael Key as Toad.

Storywise, Mario and Luigi journey to another dimension to rescue Princess Peach from evil King Koopa and foil his plans of taking over the world.

Judging by some of the Twitter reaction, not every “Super Mario Bros.” fan who saw the new trailer was completely onboard with Pratt as Mario.

“The Super Mario Bros. Movie” hits theatres on April 7, 2023.

  • The Home Edit founders add a podcast to their growing brand

The Home Edit founders add a podcast to their growing brand

They may have been tasked with organizing Chris Pratt and Katharine Schwarzenegger’s garage or Drew Barrymore’s talk show kitchen, but professional organizers Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin, founders of The Home Edit, are quickly becoming talent in their own right.

The chatty, upbeat, rainbow-loving duo who already star in the Netflix reality series “Get Organized with The Home Edit,” have co-authored books on their approach and sell their own line of products, are now the hosts of a new weekly podcast “ Best Friend Energy,” proving that their personalities have made them, well, Personalities.

Shearer, however, is quick to reject this idea and says recognizable is a better description.

“I’d rather be like a familiar face,” she said. “You have to remember that we still use the staff entrance at most people’s homes. Like, we are still organizing under a sink in a celebrity’s house. So it’s really easy for us to be like, ‘Oh, no, we’re definitely not celebrities because there is a very clear distinction.’”

On “Best Friend Energy,” Shearer and Teplin will share the latest goings on in their lives and business, reminisce about funny mishaps, chat with guests and also analyze other friendships, including Queen Elizabeth II and her beloved corgis or Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg.

Their chats come easily because Teplin says it’s really how they are together: self-deprecating, never at a loss for words and frequently going on tangents.

“We did not practice for this beforehand, but we’ve been practicing for this for seven years, since the day that we met,” said Teplin. “This is just who we are as people. don’t think there is any practice necessarily needed because this is just us.”

The podcast comes as the pair get ready to close out a whirlwind chapter in their personal and professional lives.

Earlier this year, The Home Edit was bought by Reese Witherspoon’s media and entertainment company Hello Sunshine. (Witherspoon and Molly Sims are co-executive producers on their Netflix show and Hello Sunshine produces their podcast with Sony Music Podcasts.) Shearer was also diagnosed with breast cancer and has documented her experience of going through chemo and radiation on social media.

“Having cancer doesn’t feel that lucky, but all the things that I have in my life make me literally the luckiest person. I have the best treatment facility at Vanderbilt Hospital. I have the best business partner, the best company to support me and my family, my husband, my kids. I mean, every single person in my life has shown up in such incredible ways and has helped in such incredible ways. It’s the honor of my lifetime to be able to share my story… and help people going through this.”

Shearer is counting down her remaining days of radiation and optimistic about what that means.

“I hope to be cancer free by Thanksgiving, the holiday weekend, which is very exciting,” said Shearer. “I’m so excited to be in the month of November. Radiation is five days a week, which a lot of people don’t know. It’s incredibly taxing and draining but I’m balancing that with the excitement of like, ‘Oh my gosh, I’m almost done.’”

  • John Leguizamo Says Casting Chris Pratt In New ‘Super Mario Bros. Movie’ Is ‘Going Backwards

John Leguizamo Says Casting Chris Pratt In New ‘Super Mario Bros. Movie’ Is ‘Going Backwards

    By Brent Furdyk.

John Leguizamo played Luigi opposite the late Bob Hoskins’ Mario in the 1993 live-action comedy “Super Mario Bros. Movie” and he’s sharing his thoughts about the casting for the upcoming animated “The Super Mario Bros. Movie”.

In the new film, Chris Pratt voices Mario while “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” star Charlie Day voices Luigi, casting choices that Leguizamo sees as “going backwards.”

“I’m O.G. A lot of people love the original,” Leguizamo said in a recent interview with IndieWire.

John Leguizamo Says ‘Too Bad They Went All White’ With ‘Super Mario Bros.’ Movie Casting

“I did Comic-Con in New York and in Baltimore, and everyone’s like, ‘No, no, we love the old one, the original.’ They’re not feeling the new one,” Leguizamo added. “I’m not bitter. It’s unfortunate.”

As Leguizamo recalled, directors Annabel Jankel and Rocky Morton “fought really hard for me to be the lead because I was a Latin man, and they [the studio] didn’t want me to be the lead. They fought really hard, and it was such a breakthrough. For them to go backwards and not cast another [actor of colour] kind of sucks.”

Last year, the film’s producer, Chris Meledandri, addressed skepticism about casting the non-Italian Pratt as the iconic video game character.

Chris Pratt Promises His Super Mario Voice Is ‘Unlike Anything You’ve Heard’

“We are collaborating with Chris and his experienced team to not just create a character-licensed film, but a new piece of entertainment which brings ‘Super Mario Bros.’ to life on the screen and allows everyone to enjoy whether or not they know about the game,” Meledandri said, as reported by Deadline.

“When people hear Chris Pratt’s performance, the criticism will evaporate, maybe not entirely — people love to voice opinions, as they should,” he added. “I’m not sure this is the smartest defense, but as a person who has Italian-American heritage, I feel I can make that decision without worrying about offending Italians or Italian-Americans… I think we’re going to be just fine.”

  • ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ Gets Official MPAA Rating

‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ Gets Official MPAA Rating

Although the film isn’t due in theaters until next spring, the animated movie version of Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros. already has its official MPAA rating. As of this week, the film is rated PG for “action and mild violence.”

The original live-action Super Mario Bros. movie from 1993 was a pretty strange and dark experience but it was also rated PG, for “sci-fi action, mild language and sensuality.”

No one expected a PG-13 cut of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, but the PG rating tells us a little bit about what exactly we can expect. An animated Mario Bros. movie could have been rated G, but that may have been to its detriment from a box office perspective. When you’re trying to make a movie that has intergenerational appeal, it’s important to make sure that the content is engaging for everyone.

    THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE
    Nintendo

Since The Super Mario Bros. Movie is produced by Illumination, the studio behind animated favorites like the Sing or Despicable Me franchises, we can probably expect roughly that level of comedy and that sort of tone; maybe not mature, but still entertaining. The MPAA’s notes about “action” likely refers to fights with high stakes. What’s more striking here is a lack of any designation towards crude humor, meaning the jokes in the movie will likely be pretty tame by modern standards.

The movie’s first teaser debuted a few weeks ago at New York Comic-Con. If you missed it, here it is:

The film’s cast includes Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, and Jack Black as Bowser. The Super Mario Bros. Movie is due for release in theaters on April 7, 2023.

Reactions To Chris Pratt’s ‘Mario’ Voice Have Been A Little Harsh

Let’s go! The Super Mario Bros. Movie trailer is finally here, and people have some opinions. First of all, the animation looks perfect and the casting of Charlie Day as Luigi couldn’t be more fitting.

That being said, people are kind of upset at Chris Pratt‘s voice, as expected. Rather than donning the trademark high-pitched Mario voice, Pratt opts for using his regular voice. To be fair, it seems like he’s making a really lazy attempt at a New York accent.

When the movie was first announced, people were upset that Mario’s voice actor was Chris Pratt. Especially when Charles Marinet, Mario’s voice actor since 1990, was completely available. A lot of people have pointed this problem out, though. Rather than just using readily available voice actors for existing characters, Hollywood almost always opts for bringing major stars in instead. If you look at the cast of the film, you’ll quickly notice how star-studded it is.

Let’s pop over to Twitter to get a read on how people are feeling.

People are also picking on Chris Pratt for struggling to remember the name of Mario’s main enemies:

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is scheduled for release on April 7, 2023. While as of now that’s the only major Mario movie we know of, there are potential spin-offs and sequels on the horizon. There have been rumors of a Donkey Kong spin-off, as well as a Luigi’s Mansion adaptation after Charlie Day expressed interest.
