  • Choice Points Can Now Be Redeemed Online For Preferred Hotels & Resorts Stays [Devaluation] – Doctor Of Credit

Choice Points Can Now Be Redeemed Online For Preferred Hotels & Resorts Stays [Devaluation] – Doctor Of Credit

Update 6/21/24: These properties are now more expensive. Some that were 25-35k have jumped to 33k-48k. Surprised to see a devaluation so fast.  Hat tip to OMaaT

Original post: Choice has added the ability to redeem Choice points at preferred hotels & resorts properties online. Unfortunately not all the Preferred Hotels & Resorts are participating and award inventory seems to be limited, but a full list of participating properties can be found here. There is a lot of potential here though and the redemption rates seem great, especially when you factor in that some credit card programs transfer to Choice at a rate of 1:2 (e.g one credit card point = two choice points. Citi & Wells Fargo both have this 1:2 rate).

    Specifics are as follows:

    • Point prices are fixed and range between 20,000 – 55,000 points.
    • You can book more than 100 days in advance (this normally isn’t possible with Choice)
    • Only base rooms can be booked

Overall this is exciting, although I hope the award inventory improves.

Why We’re Done With Spirit Airlines After One Flight

“About a year or so ago, my family initiated our Spirit Airlines experiment, genuinely intrigued to see how it would go. Last year, and as it turns out, up until yesterday, my family and I had never flown on Spirit. We’ve come full circle in one year, with most of that circle completed in the last day. But our decision to give up on Spirit isn’t purely based on one experience. Even if yesterday’s flight was perfect, we would probably be done with them, anyway.” ➡️ Read more

How to find Choice Preferred Hotel award availability

That’s a problem if you’re thinking of transferring points to Choice or buying Choice points just for that stay. ➡️ Read more

[Choice Ending Attempt] Wyndham Rejects Choice Hotels Takeover For $90 Per Share ($7.8 Billion) – Doctor Of Credit

Update 3/11/24: Choice has provided an update stating the offer has expired and they are removing their nominations  its nomination of the highly qualified, independent director candidates for election at Wyndham’s 2024 Annual Meeting of Stockholders.

Choice hotels has unveiled a plan for a hostile takeover of Wyndham for $90 per share ($7.8 billion and $9.8 factoring in Wyndham’s debt) in a cash and stock deal ($49.50 in cash and 0.324 shares of Choice common stock).

According to Choice they made an offer of $80 per share (40% cash and 60% Choice stock), that proposal was then rejected and Choice increased the offer to $85 per share (55% cash and 45% Choice stock) before the best and final offer of $90 per share (55% cash and 45% Choice stock) was made and rejected.

Choice Hotels scraps ‘hostile’ $8 billion Wyndham takeover bid – WTOP News

North Bethesda, Maryland-based Choice Hotels International has ended its nearly yearlong attempt to acquire Wyndham Hotels & Resorts for nearly $8 billion.

North Bethesda, Maryland-based Choice Hotels International has ended its nearly yearlong attempt to acquire Wyndham Hotels & Resorts for nearly $8 billion.

Choice has also withdrawn its nominations for Wyndham’s board of directors.

Wyndham’s board had rejected the acquisition bid repeatedly. In December, Choice took its offer directly to Wyndham shareholders.

“The Wyndham Board is pleased that Choice has ended its hostile pursuit and proxy contest, following the expiration of its unsolicited exchange offer,” said Wyndham board chair Stephen Holmes.

“We are confident in Wyndham’s stand-alone strategy and growth prospects under the leadership of our proven management team.”

Choice, which acquired Radisson Hotels in 2022, also said it would focus on its stand-alone strategy.

“While support from Wyndham stockholders tendering in the exchange offer was significant considering the number of investors structurally prevented from participating at this stage, it was not sufficient for Choice to conclude, particularly when taking into account the Wyndham board’s obvious continuing disinterest in a combination, that a path toward a transaction is available at this time,” Choice said in a statement.

In repeatedly rebuffing Choice’s offer, Wyndham said it faced uncertain regulatory approval and it undervalued the company.

The merger would have brought together some of the best-known hotel brands in the budget category. Wyndham has 21 franchise brands, including Super 8, Days Inn, Howard Johnson and Ramada. Choice has 22 brands, including Comfort, Quality Inn, Rodeway Inn and EconoLodge.

Choice Hotels relocated from its longtime Rockville headquarters to its new corporate headquarters in North Bethesda’s Pike & Rose in December, where it has roughly 400 employees.

  • Spiff Up Your Wardrobe With The Latest Hotel Perk From Cambria Hotels

Spiff Up Your Wardrobe With The Latest Hotel Perk From Cambria Hotels

Cambria Hotels, part of the Choice Hotels Group, is fresh off its heels with a new marketing effort that may just put a new spring in your step!

The growing hotel brand just launched the “Cambria Hotels Thread Collection,” a series of socks designed by local artists to reflect the communities, and deliver a “sense of place,” where it has hotels. This is meant to be yet another way to showcase a bit of the destination while also providing the opportunity for guests to take home something reflective of the where they stayed.

It’s a win-win for both the hotel brand and some of the more than 60 local communities where it has hotels.

The upscale brand, part of the Choice Hotels Group, places a strong emphasis on showcasing the local destinations of its properties. Through interior design and locally sourced restaurant and bar menus, these hotels pep up travel for road warriors and leisure visitors by giving them some regional flair.

“At Cambria hotels, we strive to uplift the voices and local businesses in the communities where we are located. By offering our guests a sense of place—from on-site offerings like menus featuring native ingredients and locally crafted beers, to special design touches that speak to the history of the destination, to a pair of destination-inspired socks—we’re able to provide experiences that transcend the walls of our hotels,” says Janis Cannon, senior vice president, upscale brands, Choice Hotels.

The first three socks in the collection represent three of its newer hotels: the Cambria Hotel Portland Downtown Old Port, Cambria Hotel Columbia Downtown The Vista, and Cambria Hotel Downtown Phoenix Convention Center. The original artwork on each pair of socks is reflective of the community.

The Columbia, S.C. hotel tapped young designer Ija Charles , a self-taught artist and entrepreneur, to create the look. She is known around the South Carolina capital for her large-scale murals. Heather Freitas created artwork that reflects the “Arizona skies” in her sock design. She often uses recycled materials to explore feelings of human emotion and environmental issues in her other artwork.

Portland, Maine visitors can enjoy a design from Mexico City-born multimedia designer Pam Chavez, who currently resides in Portland. She enjoys spending time in the outdoors, and brings appreciation for her Latinx heritage and love for nature into her work.

Each Cambria Hotel is unique in its design to show a local sense of place while offering familiar amenities like lobby lounges with local craft beer and spa-inspired bathrooms with Bluetooth-compatible mirrors. Hotels have modern amenities like fitness centers and restaurants, but take things a step further by tapping interior designers to weave in a local story into each property.

Cambria participates in the Choice Privileges loyalty program, and this fall, members can earn bonus points when staying with any of its participating brands.

Earlier this year, Choice acquired Radisson Hotels Americas, adding nine brands to its collection. This helps to broaden the scope of hotel brands, price points and redemption opportunities for loyalty program members.

The socks are still in a first-launch stage, but will soon be available at more hotels in the coming year.
