  • Runners take on ‘Miles Per Hour’ race at Chicago Auto Show 2026

    CHICAGO (WLS) — Cars of the future and plenty of hand-on experiences await as hundreds drive into day two of the 2026 Chicago Auto Show.

    It’s the longest running exhibition of its kind in the nation.

    Whether you’re in the market for a new car, or just browsing, there’s something for everyone.

    This year the organization is debuting the “Chit-town Alley.”

    It’s an all-new exhibit that celebrates Chicago’s car culture.

    This year’s Chicago Auto Show is all about what’s next, with more electric vehicles, more hands-on experiences, and more tech than ever before.

    The show features the latest vehicles, outdoor rides and drives, indoor test tracks, including a fan favorite, Camp Jeep.

    On Sunday morning, the Chicago Area Runners Association will participate in an indoor run called “Miles Per Hour.”

    The ran began at 8 a.m., participants were challenged to cover as much distance as possible. The run was entirely indoors and through the halls of the Chicago Auto Show.

    The course is a 2.4-mile loop that winds through the show floor.

    The Chicago Auto Show will be open daily at 10 a.m. at the McCormick Place. But there is plenty of time to swing by the show, as it runs until Monday, Feb. 16.

    McCormick Place, located at 2301 S. King Drive in Chicago, is a cashless facility.

    If you plan to go to the show, public transit is recommended. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for kids and seniors, and toddlers 3 and under are free. Discount coupons are available at your local auto dealer.

    Only clear tote bags (12″x12″x6″ or smaller) and clutch purses (under 9 x 5 x 2 or smaller) are allowed. When an infant is present, diaper bags and strollers are permitted.

  • Chicago-area Halloween fun kicks off with trick-or-treating, Ravenswood Monster Mash

    CHICAGO (WLS) — Trick-or-treating and other fun Halloween activities for the whole family are taking place in Chicago and the suburbs on Friday night.

    And if you haven’t gotten your pumpkin yet, you can still find them at the Ravenswood Monster Mash on Montrose.

    This is the first year that the Chamber of Commerce is putting on the trick-or-treat event, with all of the businesses on Montrose participating, but they expect that it will become an annual tradition.

    It is a good way to load up on candy and other treats, like pizza. Chicago’s Pizza is making ghost pizzas complete with olives for the eyes and pepperoni for the mouth.

    Organizers say this event is designed to encourage kids and their parents to enjoy the neighborhood.

    “It’s kind of a sure thing. If there’s an event, there will be candy; there will be trick-or-treaters,” said Christina Pecce with the Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce.

    ABC7 has seen a bunch of costumed kids and their parents up and down the street there.

    Monsters are also guarding the candy in Northbrook.

    More than 70 of them surround Howard Wise’s home, attracting visitors from all over.

    “OMG it’s crazy. Love it. Absolutely love it. Glad I’m not living next door to it,” said visitor Ann Furby.

    Wise stores the creatures in his basement all year. They come out on Halloween, and then go back into hibernation for a year. It’s a family affair.

    “Look at it. Everybody loves it. It’s just a great thing to do,” Wise said.

    He has been putting all of this together for more than a decade. However, he says this could be it. His son is going off to college next year, and it is too much on his own. Although, he has a lot of people trying to convince him to keep it going.

    In Oak Park, the nice weather drew ghosts, goblins and every other character one could imagine to go door-to-door, asking for treats.

    Chopper 7 also found busy trick or treaters going door-to-door in west suburban Hinsdale and in northwest suburban Schaumburg.

  • Thousands of athletes descend on lakefront for Chicago Triathlon

    CHICAGO (WLS) — Some of the city’s youngest athletes plunged into Lake Michigan on Saturday morning, marking the start of the 2025 Supertri Chicago Kids Triathlon at Foster Beach.

    Officials say the Supertri Chicago Triathlon is the largest in its series with more than 7,500 people swimming, running and cycling through the city.

    Seven-hundred kids ranging in age from 7 to 14 took on a challenging endurance event on Saturday.

    “It’s, like, really fun and it feels really good afterwards,” said kids’ triathlon competitor Lucy Hartman.

    These inspiring athletes took on a 200-meter swim, a 4-mile bike ride and a just over 1-mile run.

    Aydin Bokhari-Jaksich said he decided to compete in his first kids’ triathlon on Saturday, “Because I like running and swimming and biking.”

    His mom, Aalya Bokhari, could not be prouder.

    “I can’t believe it. He looked like a natural out there. He was so calm and knew exactly what he was doing, had a great time. That’s all I told him to do,” she said.

    Caroline Boismery’s son, Liam, also hammered out his very first triathlon and says he competed to raise money for the AIDS Foundation of Chicago.

    “He loved it. I was actually really proud of him during the practice, as well. We practiced a couple of times. It was a bit tricky getting the transitions right the first couple of rounds, but he crushed it and he had so much fun,” she said.

    When asked why he wanted to compete, Liam said, “Because I’m a sporty boy and I really like sports.”

    Supertri’s Chicago Triathlon also raised more than $50,000 last year for Laurie Children’s Hospital, with a new goal this year to double the donation.

    One stroke, pedal and step at a time, these young athletes are making Chicago proud.

    The morning continued with the Supersprint race kicking off at 10 a.m. That is the perfect race for, perhaps, some newcomers to the sport.

    But the main event is the Supersprint League races, which feature some of the top professional triathletes in the world.
