Emmerdale hints Charity’s baby secret is about to be exposed, but could this be how?

Emmerdale may have quietly dropped a massive clue about how Charity’s baby secret is finally going to come out in tonight’s episode (Thursday December 18). And it all centres around a moment that should have been reassuring – but clearly wasn’t.

After attending her 20-week scan with Sarah and Jacob, Charity should have been breathing a sigh of relief. Instead, she was visibly unsettled. And with so much emphasis placed on testing and genetics, has the show just signposted how the truth will explode into the open?

Charity’s dangerous baby lie in Emmerdale

Charity is still hiding the bombshell truth that she’s carrying her own baby, conceived after a one-night stand with Ross Barton. Instead, she’s pretending she’s acting as a surrogate for Sarah and Jacob – a lie that’s becoming harder to sustain by the day.

The strain is already showing. In tonight’s episode, Vanessa picked up on Charity’s nerves and started pushing for answers. Vanessa suspected the baby might actually be Charity and Mack’s, after previously being led to believe Mack was the father.

Under pressure, Charity let slip that there’s a chance the baby isn’t Sarah’s – before quickly trying to backtrack. But the damage was done. Vanessa’s suspicions were well and truly raised, and she’s not about to let this slide.

The 20-week scan raises serious questions

At the scan itself, Charity’s anxiety only deepened. She repeatedly questioned the sonographer about genetic conditions and insisted on extra checks. Although reassured that the baby is healthy, Charity struggled to relax, brushing it off as worries linked to her age and what happened with Chas and baby Grace.

But viewers know there’s more going on.

The sonographer explained that Sarah and Jacob’s embryo was genetically tested, meaning there’s little cause for concern. Jacob then added that he’s had his own tests to ensure he isn’t a carrier of anything that could be passed on.

For most expectant parents, that would be comforting news. For Charity, it’s anything but – because this baby was never created from Sarah and Jacob’s embryo at all.

Is this how Charity’s secret will finally come out?

It may be coincidence – or it may be very deliberate. There was heavy focus on genetic testing throughout the episode, and how safe it made everyone feel about the baby’s health.

So is Emmerdale hinting that something will be wrong? And that it’s something that should have been picked up by tests Charity’s baby was never part of?

If the baby were to develop a genetic condition inherited from either Charity or Ross, it would instantly expose the truth – and in devastating fashion.

We already know Charity’s secret is under serious threat this Christmas. We also know pregnant Charity is involved in Corriedale. Some fans are convinced a baby swap storyline with Corrie’s Shona could be on the way. A genetic condition would blow that plot wide open too.

Whether this is clever signposting or deliberate misdirection, one thing is clear: Charity’s lies are starting to close in on her – and the fallout is coming.

Charity ‘decides to tell the biggest lie of her life’ reveals Emma Atkins as she makes baby decision in Emmerdale

Emma Atkins has revealed Charity Dingle in Emmerdale doesn’t know which way to turn after making a decision about the baby she is carrying.

She is supposed to be carrying a baby for granddaughter Sarah Sugden and her fiancé Jacob Gallagher as a surrogate. But she now knows her ill-advised one-night stand with Ross Barton has resulted in her pregnancy.

Charity immediately booked an abortion and tonight we discovered whether or not she went through with it. So what consequences will her decision have?

Charity planned a termination in Emmerdale

After receiving the paternity test results on Monday (October 6) Charity was devastated to discover the baby she is carrying belongs to her and Ross Barton.

Charity confided in Chas Dingle and decided an abortion was the only option. She booked one immediately.

Tonight (Tuesday October 7) she asked Chas to go with her, but Chas insisted she could not terminate the pregnancy. Charity lashed out saying it was her only option.

Later Charity broke down in tears alone in her car, but had she gone through with the abortion?

At home, Sarah showed Charity a memory box for the baby. It had in the first scan photo and a letter from Sarah and Jacob telling their kid how much they loved them.

Charity couldn’t listen and dashed out. She then told Chas she hadn’t gone through with the termination.

Emma Atkins admits ‘biggest lie of Charity’s life’

Chas was pleased Charity hadn’t done it, but assumed she would now tell everyone the truth. However, Charity refused. She knows it would lose her Sarah and cost her her marriage to Mack, who is already struggling after his kidnapping nightmare.

Charity decided no one would ever find out and that she would find the answer to dealing with Ross.

Charity admitted she didn’t have all the answers, but she would find a way.

Emma Atkins, who plays Charity, admitted to Metro.co.uk: “She has a choice to tell those that need telling, or to keep it a secret. And I think secrets and lies is the avenue she goes down for obvious reasons, that there’s too much at stake. There’s too much to lose.

“She wants to gift Sarah with this child that she’s promised her, and she can’t bear the thought of all of this falling apart, so to keep everything together, she decides to tell the biggest lie of her life.”

However we all know it’s not that easy in Soapland. The truth will come out eventually and fans are already warning Charity against this.

Emmerdale fans think the same as those watching at home began commenting on social media: “Charity this seriously isn’t gonna end well you you continuing to lie to Sarah and Mack,” said one.

“Charity needs to do the right thing,” agreed one more, while a third added: “Charity should come clean not have a termination.”

“Charity has messed up BIG TIME! For once, Chas is right. Charity might as well just tell them,” said a fourth.

Caleb has been asked a favour and given he’s keeping it from Ruby, it can’t be good. The next day she catches him sneaking out.

2. Charity goes for a DNA test in Emmerdale spoilers

Guilty Charity needs answers over her baby’s paternity so goes to get a DNA test. But she has to wait a painful 10 days for the results. Will it be what she hoped?

When Chas then spots Ross and Charity clearly in cahoots over something, she gets suspicious. Is she about to uncover the truth?

3. April can’t escape Ray

April remains unconvinced that Ray has her best interests at heart. But when she tries to talk to Ross, she doesn’t get the help she needs.

She is appalled to realise how much debt they are in but Ray tells her there is a way to get out of it quicker. Suddenly, April is interested.

Ray brings her to a car park, laying out the rules of the job. When April sees a lad beaten-up, she realises the seriousness of it.

Successfully completing her demo deal, April takes a burner phone – solidifying her role as a full-time drug dealer.

4. Dylan’s happiness threatened by Ray in Emmerdale spoilers

When Ray hears Dylan got the job at the dept, he tells him they could help each other out. Later, Dylan gets a text which shows he has no escape from Ray.

Meanwhile, delighted that Dylan wants to drive, Paddy offers him lessons. But as he manages to act as the new father figure in Dylan’s life – Ray makes his presence known.

Unable to turn him down, Dylan heads to see Ray. Dylan’s given a generous gift and is once again reminded how lucky he is to have Ray in his life.

But neither he nor April realise they are playing right into Ray’s hands.

5. Liam confesses his health issue to Chas

Liam gets Claudette to cancel his appointment after agreeing to get his waterworks checked out. Despite her pleas, he refuses to rebook it and ignores things.

However, when Manpreet spots him eeeing in his own consulting room basin, she realises something is wrong. Liam knows it’s time to face the truth.

He fills Chas in on what’s been happening. However, she is heartbroken that it means he is fearing a prostate cancer diagnosis.

Laurel notices something is up with Gabby, who is forced to confess that she cheated on Vinny before the wedding. Laurel is shocked that Gabby plans to take her secret to the grave.

Meanwhile, Vinny gets a letter about Mike. He knows if he testifies then Mike won’t be able to hurt anyone else. But it also means that Gabby might find out the truth.

In Emmerdale spoilers for tonight (Monday, August 19), Charity takes Sarah on a fun trip out so that she can have a proper Dingle experience.

The pair then hop into a fancy car and go joyriding together, enjoying the thrill of the experience.

This evening, Charity surprises Sarah with a fancy car and takes her joyriding in it.

She hopes to give her a proper Dingle experience to raise her spirits a little bit. But, did Charity really steal the car? Or, is she lying to Sarah about how she got her hands on the fancy motor?

Charity feels guilty after bringing up Vinny’s lack of sexual experience in comparison to Gabby.

She immediately regrets making the comment after realising that she’s overstepped the mark and has upset Vinny, making him feel not good enough.

Laurel wants to team up with Gabby

With Jai continuing to cause trouble for Laurel at The Hide, Gabby’s thrilled by Laurel’s latest news.

She brings up the idea of buying Jai’s shares in The Hide, with Gabby being left delighted by this idea.

But, will Jai find out about Laurel’s plans? Will he allow her to buy his shares in the restaurant?

Emmerdale: Chas once had PTSD and stabbed Diane Sugden – here’s what happened

As Charity Dingle struggles to cope with her PTSD in Emmerdale, she is comforted by Chas who reveals she knows what Charity is going through. Although Charity dismisses her, in fact, Chas is not lying.

But Charity – and Emmerdale – seems to have forgotten Chas has been exactly where Charity is!

She too suffered from PTSD. And she too starting struggling with her sleep. And she too stabbed someone while not thinking straight.

Exact same, exact same.

So what happened when Chas stabbed Diane Sugden?

It was 2015 and a fatal helicopter crash had just hit the village. Although Chas was relatively unscathed, she was upset because it was all caused by Chrissie White, who found out Chas’s son, Aaron was having an affair with her husband Robert.

When Robert and Chas had an argument about it, Robert was suddenly shot. Chas was traumatised at having witnessed the shooting, although Robert did survive. However, Chas herself came under suspicion.

Then a break-in at the pub saw co-landlady Diane think Chas was responsible for smashing glasses. Chas denied it and the pair fell out.

Strange things continued to occur around the Woolpack. Chas’s clothes were strewn around the floor, the taps were turned on in the night and someone was in the pub cellar.

Chas’s love rival at the time, Emma Barton, locked her in the pub with poisonous gas being released from a beer pump. Chas fell and hit her head becoming unconscious.

She was rescued, but everything was getting to be too much and she believed she had a stalker.

However, it was soon revealed Chas was behind everything, having been sleepwalking.

Things came to a head when Diane returned from a night out with her family and Chas thought it was an intruder. She grabbed a knife for protection and stabbed Diane in the bar.

Chas diagnosed with PTSD

Things got worse for Chas. She handed herself into the police after hearing ex Cameron’s voice telling her to. Cameron had held her hostage in the Woolpack siege previously and had also been responsible for killing her sister Gennie and her former lover Carl King, but letting Chas take the blame.

Chas started to hallucinate Robert and Diane, imagining them bleeding and dying in front of her. Then Cameron’s voice haunted her again and she saw Robert pinning her down saying the same things Carl did the night he tried to attack her.

Chas was eventually found and diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder after Cameron’s reign of terror. Robert being shot was said to be the trigger for her illness, which she’d buried deep down.

One good thing that came out of the stabbing was Diane‘s stomach cancer was discovered. She was treated and made a full recovery.

In the present day, Charity has just stabbed husband Mack by mistake after hallucinating he was Harry. Charity had killed Harry in self-defence after he tried to kill Mack.

As Charity struggled with what she had done, she began suffering nightmares and flashbacks. It was clear she had PTSD, but everyone around her seemingly failed to notice.

Mack was rushed in to emergency surgery and has recovered, but Charity is now refusing to see him or the kids for fear she might hurt him.

As Cain tries to get through to her, Chas returns and finds out what’s happened. Can she help Charity using her own PTSD experience?

Emmerdale: As Belle Dingle says ‘I do’ to controlling Tom King – five other couples who never should have got married!

Emmerdale is full of mismatched couples and right now it’s all about Belle Dingle walking down the aisle with creepy, controlling Tom King.

As the wedding approaches, Belle’s busy ignoring the many, MANY red flags her future husband is waving from making all the arrangements for their big day on his own, sarky comments about her dress, and even refusing to have the reception in the Woolpack.

We’re pretty confident this marriage is going to end in tears.

And it won’t be the first one to hit the rocks in Emmerdale.

Here are five more couples we reckon should NEVER have tied the knot.

Tracy and Nate were quite cute at first and when they welcomed baby Frankie they even weathered the storm of Tracy’s crippling post-natal depression. But then Nate had a one-night stand out of the blue and the romance fell apart. Tracy went off to start a new life without her man and even met someone else.

Until she and Nate rekindled their relationship secretly and got married! Clearly this was an enormous mistake though, because they’ve not even made it to their first anniversary and Tracy’s already embarked on a torrid affair with Nate’s Uncle Caleb and called time on the whole thing.

Remember when Rhona and Paddy were married and he cheated on her with Leo’s classroom assistant, Tess Harris? And then Tess died and the whole thing got really complicated when, after Rhona and Paddy split, she got together with Tess’s ex-husband, Pierce.

Hmm, yes, that didn’t sound like a wise plan from the start, did it?

And Pierce soon showed his true abusive colours. In a horrific twist to the story, he raped Rhona on their wedding day. Pierce then showed up again, killed Rhona’s new fella Graham Foster and kidnapped her best friend Vanessa, but Rhona managed to outwit him – phew – and he was banged up, where he died.

On paper, Bernice and Lawrence’s relationship seemed the ideal arrangement. Yes, Lawrence was struggling with his sexuality, and yes Bernice didn’t love him, but it worked for them both. Well, that’s what they told themselves. In reality, Bernice was enjoying a super steamy affair with Andy Sugden.

When she found out the truth about Lawrence, thanks to his old flame Ronnie, Bernice stole a digger and destroyed The Mill. You know what they say about a woman scorned!

We reckon this has to be Emmerdale’s shortest marriage. Chas tied the knot with Dan Spencer after a whirlwind romance. She was on the rebound after splitting from her secret lover, Cameron Murray – who was with Debbie Dingle at the time. Chas and Dan got married but Chas’s heart wasn’t in it.

Meanwhile, her evil ex, Carl King, was out for revenge and was growing increasingly obsessed with Chas. He found photos on Chas’s phone of her and Cameron and vowed to tell Debbie everything unless Chas and Cameron coughed up. Then he did an about turn and begged Chas to run away with him. On Chas’s wedding day, she agreed to leave with Carl – while planning to escape alone.

She almost got away with it, but Carl stopped her and then attempted to rape her. Chas whacked him over the head and thought she’d killed him – in fact, she even went to prison for a while. But it turned out the real killer was Cameron. Not surprisingly, Chas’s marriage to Dan didn’t last!

We chose Mack, but Charity’s got a LOT of failed marriages under her belt and frankly we could just as easily have chosen Charity and Jai, or Charity and Chris Tate, or Charity and Tom King! Anyway, Charity’s latest husband is Mackenzie Boyd and we’re not sure there’s ever been a more toxic relationship. Their ‘romance’ began when Charity was missing girlfriend Vanessa, which was bad enough.

Then there was the whole business with Mack sleeping with Chloe and getting her pregnant. Baby Reuben was born on Charity’s wedding day – which, by the way, meant she and Mack tied the knot dressed as members of the A Team. They split up, Mack got engaged to Chloe, and Charity slept with Caleb -who’s not her brother or even her cousin, but sort of feels like he is.

Then there was a car accident, where Mack saved Charity instead of Chloe, and a kidnap, which left Chloe’s dad Harry shot dead at the hands of Charity, and Mack agreeing never to see Reuben again in order to stop Charity going to jail. Still with us? Now Charity’s got PTSD after the shooting and Mack’s off nicking cars with Aaron. This is definitely one marriage that NEVER should have happened!

Emmerdale spoilers tonight: Mack dumps Chloe

In Emmerdale spoilers tonight Chloe is facing heartbreak when Mackenzie goes through with dumping her. But will he tell her the full truth?

Meanwhile, Rhona is having a hard time keeping away from baby Ivy, and Billy and Dawn are left disappointed by Kim.

Mack ends things with Chloe

After deciding his heart lies with Charity, Mackenzie knows he has to finish his relationship with smitten Chloe. However, he has been dragging his feet after her injuries from the crash and then her collapsing last week.

Initially agreeing with Charity they would officially reunite after Christmas, Mack has been struggling with the deceit. But on Friday (November 17), when she was given the all-clear from her MRI, he knew he couldn’t live with himself any more and needed to finish it now.

Charity is sceptical that he’ll go through with it and fully expects him to bottle it.

But Mack proves her wrong when he tells Chloe it’s over. She is in complete shock and although devastated, pretends she’s not bothered.

Chloe dismissed Mackenzie in a cold fashion, like he’s a business transaction. She then cries on her sister’s shoulder, letting it all out.

As Chloe tries to cope with the pain, how will she feel when she realises the exact reason Mack has left her – and who for?

Emmerdale spoilers: Rhona can’t keep away

After baby Ivy’s harrowing birth and the death of Lucy Rhona doesn’t know how to feel or what to do. Clearly not coping, she pretends she’s fine.

But in reality, she is sneaking off to the hospital to see the baby.

Rhona attempts to find out how Ivy is doing from the nurse at the ICU, but when Gus arrives, things become tense. It’s clear he still blames her for Lucy’s death and is furious to see her at the hospital.

However, despite Gus making his feelings perfectly clear, will Rhona be able to stay away?

Kim wades in

Dawn and Billy are excited for the baby’s arrival. They have a folder full of ideas for decorating the nursey.

Showing them to Kim, they’re upset when Kim turns round and says they won’t need any ideas because her interior decorator has the whole thing covered.

Emmerdale spoilers: Chloe plans to leave the village after discovering the truth about Mack and Charity

In Emmerdale spoilers for next week Chloe Harris is set to have her world turned upside down when Mackenzie Boyd breaks the news their relationship is over.

Mack has in fact reunited with Charity, but he leaves this little snippet of information out of his break-up speech. So when Chloe discovers the truth she flips.

Emmerdale spoilers: Mack dumps Chloe

Finally settling on Charity as the woman he wants to be with, Mackenzie has decided to break up with Chloe. However, when he tried she collapsed and was taken to hospital.

Next week he finally manages to end things and Chloe is shocked by his decision. Devastated, but hiding her hurt, Chloe dismisses him coldly. She then sobs on Amy’s shoulder.

However, when she later spots Mack and Charity kissing for all to see in the village, Chloe sees red. She runs over and slaps Charity.

Amy takes her back to the house, while Mack realises Chloe’s not as okay as she pretended to be.

As Charity hopes things will calm down and they’ll all find a way to live peacefully together, Chloe has something else entirely in mind…

Revealing all to Amy, Chloe confesses she is going to run away with Reuben to France. That way Mack will never see his son again – the ultimate punishment.

As oblivious Charity and Mack settle back into marital bliss, Chloe puts the wheels of her plan into motion.

She books her tickets, but swears everyone close to her to secrecy. However Sarah spots the packed bags and Reuben’s passport and realises something is going on.

Sarah inadvertently tells Moira and Mack what she saw and they realise what Chloe is plotting.

Rushing out to stop her, can they get there before she leaves? Or has Mack lost his son forever? Will he live to regret choosing Charity?

Emmerdale spoilers for next week: First look as Chloe finds out about Mack and Charity

Over in the Dales next week, Chloe finds out about Mack and Charity’s romance as her heart gets broken all over again.

Elsewhere, Caleb’s onto Kim as he gets closer to working out the truth about Craig’s death.

And, Rhona sneaks into the hospital to visit Gus and Lucy’s baby. But, will Gus catch her?

All this and more in Emmerdale spoilers for next week.

1. Chloe heartbroken by Mack’s deceit

Mack stuns both Charity and Chloe by sticking to his word and breaking up with the mother of his child.

Chloe is heartbroken by Mack’s decision but tries to play her emotions down.

Revealing her upset to Amy, Chloe lashes out and slaps Charity when she sees her kiss Mack outside.

Charity and Mack worry as they realise that Chloe isn’t as okay with things ending as she initially made out.

Chloe then comes up with a revenge plan – she’ll take Reuben and move to France.

However, her plan is soon exposed when Sarah spots Chloe’s packed bags.

Sarah then decides to tell Mack and Moira about the packed bags after noticing that Reuben’s passport was also out.

But, will Chloe get the chance to flee before Mack and Moira can stop her from going?

2. Rhona sneaks off to see Gus’ baby

Rhona sneaks off to the hospital to catch a glimpse of Gus and Lucy’s baby that is currently in the ICU.

She feels a desire to ask the nurse for more information but panics when she crosses paths with Gus.

April starts to become suspicious that Marlon and Rhona are keeping things from her, as Rhona and Marlon take different positions on whether to tell her the truth about the baby.

Later on, Rhona sees a pregnant Dawn in pain and runs off to get help from Liam. But, will this affect Rhona’s view on her own baby situation?

Emmerdale spoilers 3. Billy worries about Dawn

Dawn and Billy clash with Kim over their decorating ideas for the baby’s nursery.

Dawn soon pleases Kim though when she asks her to be her birthing partner. However, Billy has concerns and worries about Dawn’s plans for a home birth.

4. Caleb gets close to the truth

On the topic of Craig, Caleb notices a glimpse of guilt appear on Kim’s face and becomes suspicious of her.

He then decides to quiz Kim about Craig’s death and soon realises that Kim’s hiding something.

Later on, Caleb overhears a phone call between Kim and Cain and hurries off to share his findings with Nicky.

He fears that Cain is involved in Craig’s death, with Caleb going off to interrogate Cain.

Caleb soon suggests to Cain that Kim had something to do with the death of Craig, making Cain worry that Caleb will also figure out his involvement. But, will he?

Emmerdale spoilers 5. Ryan reaches out to his son

Gail and Ryan discuss Oscar and desperately want to be a part of his life.

Ryan then decides to do something about it and reaches out to him on social media. Will Oscar respond?

6. Tracy battles with her feelings

Tracy finds out that Caleb was the one who gave Nate tips on how to charm her back into his arms.

She’s furious as she continues to battle with her feelings for both Caleb and Nate.

7. David’s oblivious to his family’s secrets

Jacob and Manpreet persuade Pollard to join a Parkinson’s support group.

Meanwhile, Leyla works out that Jacob has a new girlfriend. But, David’s oblivious to both of these secrets. Can he rumble either of them?

8. Lydia plans to attend Craig’s funeral

Lydia considers going to Craig’s funeral so that she can get closure. Samson also tries to encourage her to come home, but will Lydia move back in?
