Where to get your fill on National Food Truck Day

ORLANDO, Fla. – Friday is National Food Truck Day, encouraging foodies to get out there and support our local mobile eateries.

It can be pricey, sure. It could be blustery outside, that’s fine. It can mean having to eat a Canadian-Hawaiian fusion poutine pineapple burger while standing upright in a parking lot, we know this. But street food is street food and its charms keep bringing us back for more.

For the holiday, food truck networking agency Roaming Hunger has taken a lead of sorts by establishing FoodTruckDay.org, with links you can follow to find trucks registered with them in your area. Orlando-area food trucks are listed for example, but it’s worth noting that Roaming Hunger serves mostly as a catering middleman; to find food trucks near you, it’s worth visiting a StreetFoodFinder website such as OrlFoodTrucks.com, which does its best to provide an updated map of individual trucks.

There are also several food truck events happening Friday, so you’re still in luck if you’re more of a social food truck customer.

The “Ivanhoe Village Parking Lot Party” at Ivanhoe Park Brewing Company starts at 6:30 p.m. while Food Trucks Heaven says it’ll set up at Main Gate Flea Market — 5403 W. Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway in Kissimmee — for a National Food Truck Day celebration that lasts until 11:30 p.m.

World Food Trucks, right up the road at 5811 W. Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway, is open each day and allows its dozens of food trucks to set their own hours. Florida Foodie visited World Food Trucks in 2022, getting a taste of what president and CEO Nadeem Battla described as “a little mini United Nations” of vendors to choose from.

“We’ve got Mexican, we’ve got Venezuelan, we have Arab (…) I love the fact that we have countries from all over the world represented here,” Battla said. “The same way that people helped my parents to grow, now I get to help that next generation of immigrants to grow and create their American dream story.”

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Chicago-based restaurant brand Pinstripes has opened its first Central Florida location near Orlando.

It’s in the tourism district at 11643 Daryl Carter Parkway.

Pinstripes Orlando is over 30,000 square feet. The two-story venue includes the restaurant, 16 bowling lanes, two outdoor patios and four private event spaces, according to a news release.

The venue said it plans to take advantage of Orlando being a top convention destination in the U.S., pledging that over 1,000 events will take place at Pinstripes within its first year of operation, the release states.

Meanwhile, Pinstripes offers lunch, dinner and brunch on the weekends. It serves Italian-American dishes such as wood-fired pizzas, gelato, baked lasagna and tiramisu.

This is Pinstripes’ second location in Florida, as it has another restaurant in Miami. According to a spokesperson for the brand, it has plans to open a Coral Gables location in the summer and a Jacksonville location in the fall.

“With 16 open venues in 10 states to date, we have a tremendous whitespace ahead of us, with the potential for at least 150 total locations domestically,” Pinstripes Founder and CEO Dale Schwartz said in a previously prepared statement.
