Since starring in the Spanish house’s S/S 24 campaign alongside Dame Maggie Smith and Dakota Fanning, Lee’s been almost exclusively a Loewe woman, with exceptions only really being made for Proenza Schouler, Prada, Ferragamo, Chanel, and Bottega Veneta (casual). First, there was her custom black, ring-neck Loewe dress at the 2023 CFDA Fashion Awards, where she presented Anderson with the International Designer of the Year Award. Later that year came her lauded red, custom Loewe gown for the Academy Museum Gala.
Then came 2024. With Anderson and Goldberg leading the way, every red carpet look of Lee’s has been a hit, from her custom Loewe almost-bridal look at the Golden Globes to her rhinestone-embellished pajama look from the brand’s men’s S/S 24 collection at the Critics Choice Awards. And award season, not to mention the year, is just beginning. With the BAFTAs, People’s Choice Awards, and, of course, the Oscars still to come, to say that our expectations are high for Lee’s red carpet looks would be the understatement of the century.
In the meantime, float down memory lane below, where photos of Lee’s best red carpet looks from 2023 and 2024 so far are ready to be feasted on.
I don’t know about you, but if there’s one thing I love more than fashion during award season, it’s the jewels that come along with it. If you’re a fan of oversize brooches, Real Housewives–sized diamonds, and anything sparkly, get ready: The 2024 Emmy Awards feel like the Super Bowl of the award-season jewelry scene.
Despite the no-necklace agenda that dominated the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards, this year’s 75th annual Emmy Awards had stars dripping in their Monday best. Hollywood hasn’t always embraced statement jewelry on red carpets in recent years, instead opting for jaw-dropping ballgowns and sleek suits to make a statement. Tonight, however, it seemed like stylists’ minimalist sartorial visions were thrown out the window: from Selena Gomez’s 55-carat necklace to Sarah Snook’s stunning Cartier pieces, there were plenty of double-take moments and a few jewelry trends we’re already starting to spot this year.
Beauty is always in the details, and by all accounts, the jewels on this year’s Emmys red carpet are the prime example. As the night continues, we’ll be bringing you all of the mind-boggling, swoon-worthy jewelry moments, so stay with us. Scroll down below to see a feast for the eyes.
Fans of Hailey Bieber‘s and Kendall Jenner’s style know the impact that stylist Dani Michelle has on the fashion world. Her clients, a list that also includes Nicola Peltz Beckham and Elsa Hosk, are guaranteed muses. And the latest addition, Bruna Marquezine, the Brazilian actress and model who’s currently taking up every spot on my 2024 mood board, is no exception.
“I am enchanted by [her] admiration and devotion to fashion,” Michelle told Elle Brasil of her new client. The duo started working together at the end of the summer, with Michelle’s first post of Marquezine arriving after the 2023 Variety Power of Young Hollywood event in August, for which she dressed the model in a Tory Burch dress and Tiffany & Co. jewelry. “She loves every stage of the art of dressing,” Michelle continued. “This makes our projects inspiring and creatively fulfilling.” Once you see the work they’ve done together since, you’ll understand what she’s talking about.
But while Michelle has no doubt brought about a heap of attention for Marquezine’s outfits since their working relationship began, she certainly didn’t turn the Blue Beetle star into a fashion icon. Marquezine did that all on her own, working with Chopard, Saint Laurent, Prada, and more, not to mention gracing the glossy pages of Marie Claire Brasil and Vogue Brasil.
From off-the-runway Bottega Veneta, Prada, and Ferragamo looks to party-ready ensembles by Alaïa and Defaïence, Marquezine is fast becoming one of fashion’s top names. Scroll down to see some of her chicest looks thus far, and keep an eye out for what’s in store for the model in 2024. My guess? You’ll be seeing a lot more of her fashion choices post–New Year’s Eve.
As much as I like to indulge in at least one pumpkin-spice beverage per year—not when fall “officially” starts (aka September 23rd) but when you can actually feel it in your bones—I don’t particularly enjoy wearing the color. Some people can pull off burnt orange. I’m not one of them. Fortunately, Dani Michelle, the stylist behind Kendall Jenner, Bruna Marquezine, and Hailey Bieber’s lusted-over street style looks, has a new color on her mind for fall that’s both delicious visually as well as in taste.
“Espresso fall” was all that Michelle captioned on a street-style photo of Bieber heading into Kim Kardashian’s 43rd birthday party at Funke in Los Angeles. In the image, the model and Rhode founder can be seen wearing various shades of espresso, from a light-roast, suede Prada blazer from the F/W ’23 collection to a medium-roast, leather Zeynep Arçay miniskirt. On her feet are a pair of burgundy Gucci slingback kitten heels from the brand’s first collection with its new creative director Sabato de Sarno, while a matching Saint Laurent 5 À 7 bag rests on her shoulder. And to top it all off, gold Khaite studs were added, as well as her new signature Alex Moss diamond “B” bubble necklace.
All on its own, the perfectly crafted autumn ensemble has solidified espresso as the color of the season, finally dethroning pumpkin spice after a decades-long run at the top. Scroll down to see Bieber’s look and shop the color we’ll be shopping (and drinking!) from now until spring.
The healthier your hair is, the better it will look on the big day. Kimble says she always talks about haircare in her consultations. “Six months out is a great time to start planning for that,” she says. “I recommend conditioning treatments so your hair is shiny and looking healthy.”
If you’re closer than six months away from your wedding, don’t panic. As Kimble puts it, “It depends on how much damage you have. I recommend good haircare anyway, getting married or not. Do something nice for your hair at least once and month. If you start at three months out? Great. You can get some really nice results in that time.”
Incorporate products like hair masks, serums, and oils into your haircare routine—anything that will boost moisture and shine. “I have an amazing shampoo and conditioner,” Kimble says. “It’s definitely hydrating, especially if you have textured hair. It helps keep your hair in great condition.”
Oh, and don’t do anything drastic right before the wedding. “If you’re going to get your hair colored, plan to do it two to three weeks before so your hair oxidizes,” Kimble says. “Even with cuts, you want your hair lived in. I wouldn’t do anything drastic right before the wedding.”
“There’s a polished aspect [of dolls], where you want to present yourself a certain way. It works perfectly for some people for marketing purposes,” Michelle says. Just look at Beyoncé’s recent costumes, for example, on her Renaissance World Tour. The singer has taken up futuristic, chrome, and surrealist fashion elements to enhance her disco house–infused concert experience, aided by stylists Shiona Turini, KJ Moody, and Julia Sarr-Jamois.
Marketability and fashion can only get you so far, especially when trying to make an outfit look more like a choice and not a paid campaign. Sometimes, Michelle suggests, it’s important for stylists to acknowledge their client’s personal preferences in a thoughtful way. If not, they can start to feel like a walking ad. “I’m sure even some stylists have deals with brands [telling their clients] you have to wear this with the bag, the shoes, the sunglasses, and you can’t switch anything up. It’s an unfortunate case,” she says.
There have been times when I’ve gotten on the internet and felt that the heydey of well-crafted starlet styling happened years ago when glitz and glamor on red carpets corresponded more with personal choices rather than contractual obligations. Although some celebrities may only have a list of garments they can pull from a show based on their partnerships, the most versed stylists are able to craft a look that feels fresh and authentic to the talent they’re working with. In the case of Gen Z–focused stylist Tabitha Sanchez, a star’s accessories, hair, and makeup can really showcase their true personality.
“In an ideal world, everyone can mix and match and have fun and really showcase their personal style, but the conversation is a lot more nuanced than that. [The dolls showcased] are being dressed by designers for particular events,” Sanchez tells Who What Wear. She’s a fan of the Twitter thread, though. “Whenever clients of mine have to wear a particular designer, I like to have them look at the runway show or lookbooks as well to see what stands out to them, and then I’ll do the same, and we’ll see where we overlap and go from there,” she says.
As unfortunate as it is, most clothes weren’t designed with petite people in mind. Count the 5’10” and above models on the runway for proof. Yet many celebrities that err on the shorter side still manage to pull off incredible high-fashion looks on a regular basis. The “how” attached to that has one simple answer: stylists.
When it comes to dressing the petite population in Hollywood, celebrity stylist Nicole Chavez is one of the absolute best, with clients such as Jessica Simpson (5’3″), Kristen Bell (5’1″), and Rachel Bilson (5’2″). Knowing that, when Bilson’s looks from her New York City press tour for the Fox show Accused hit Instagram recently, it felt only right for us to get the inside scoop on each of her outfits from the trip. Keep scrolling for Chavez’s petite-styling tips, every detail surrounding Bilson’s NYC looks, and so much more.
There are two kinds of people in the world—those who solely travel with carry-ons and those who never do. Personally, I’m more of a grab the largest suitcase you own no matter how long the trip is kind of a gal myself, but after giving it some thought, I realized I was only packing that way because I was not educated enough in the art of packing a carry-on suitcase. Every time I tried to limit myself to one carry-on, I failed. It wasn’t just what I was packing, it was how I was packing it, and a bunch of other crucial errors that were pointed out to me by a few of my favorite celebrity stylists.
If there’s anyone in this world who knows the ins and outs of travel, it’s celebrities and their stylists. Most of the time, these dynamic duos travel across the country for a one-day shoot or an evening event just to head back home moments later. In other words, they are pretty much the queens of packing solely in carry-on suitcases and I was determined to snag some tips from the experts. Ahead, you’ll hear from 3 of my go-to celebrity stylists on the worst carry-on packing mistakes one can make plus a few of their under-the-radar tips.
Mistakes:
1. Packing non-versatile pieces.
“I always pack things that I can wear for different occasions. It sounds crazy but my client Sherrie Silver and I are traveling together right now in Australia and she wore her silk pajama top out to dinner last night! Pieces like this are awesome for versatility. I love anything from Lunya for this.”
2. Not checking the weather.
“Always check the weather before a trip. This is so important. If it’s chilly somewhere I am going, I always pack a cashmere sweater to layer under a leather jacket or sweatshirt. If it’s warmer, I love packing a singlet (what my Australian clients call tanks). I love a bodysuit tank from Otherwise Topless.”
3. Being messy and unorganized.
“My last tip is that organization is key. I am obsessed with Dagne Dovers travel bags. They are lightweight and so durable. I pack every client with a Dagne bag for wardrobe supplies, jewelry storage, and toiletries!”
Tips:
1. Slip in a dryer sheet.
“To keep your clothes feeling and smelling fresh in a carry-on, slip a dryer sheet in your suitcase!”
2. Use duster bags.
“Reuse shoe duster bags for underwear, bathing suits, socks, and jammies! This helps keep things organized and clean.”
Mistakes:
1. Thinking you won’t have to check your bag.
“Ever been really proud of your carry-on packing job only to be forced to check it before boarding? I keep a stowaway bag (that can be a personal item) handy to stow all my in-flight essentials and anything I need to keep my eyes on for my clients.”
2. Not transferring products to travel containers.
“I’m all about travel-size products. One because I love trying new beauty products and two because the idea of transferring my full-size products into plastic travel containers sounds like a messy, wasteful endeavor. I can’t fathom wasting product! Instead, I shop for minis and travel sizes from brands I use and trust.”
3. Wasting space.
“I pack for shoots, fittings, and for clients for a living and one of the biggest errors is not utilizing dead space when packing. A T-shirt, undergarments, or socks can easily be stuffed in a or around a pair of shoes. It’s key to take advantage of every inch of that carry-on! Packing cubes are also essential to organizing by item and keeping wasted space to a minimum.”
Tips:
1. Buy mini-size products.
“I shop for mini versions of my favorite products at Sephora online, but I also just popped into the Fresh store and got a bunch of mini-size products and samples with my purchase. All under three ounces., compact enough for TSA, and perfect to travel and try.”
2. Bring a fold-up bag.
“A stowaway bag is key for last-minute checks and for any overflow you may have on the return trip. Longchamp makes many great options with different handle lengths that fold up compact, Paravel has a sportier option with its own pouch, and I never travel without an LL Bean boat and tote that folds up flat.”
3. Put your jewelry in a pouch.
“I send my clients all over the world with this handy little jewelry pouch! It keeps your precious pieces tangle free, organized, and in one place so you can throw into your hotel safe and not worry!”
Mistakes:
1. Packing all large items in your suitcase.
“Instead of packing bulkier items such as jackets and knits, it is always best to wear them on your flight. It will give you extra packing space and keep you warm on a chilly flight! Plus it is always a good idea to pack layers.”
2. Forgetting to pack an extra outfit.
“I recently started packing a back-up outfit for emergencies and the dreaded moment of the flight attendant asking you to check your carry-on.”
3. Make sure all your clothing can be mixed and matched.
“The best way to fit all of your clothing into a carry-on is to make sure all of the items can be reworked for multiple outfits.”
Tips:
1. Roll everything.
“Roll up or fold everything vertically to help maximize luggage space.”
2. Use a hat clip.
“Use a hat clip! Instead of trying to fit a hat into your bag or wearing multiple on your head during your flight, a hat clip holds your hats in place on your carry-on.”
When it comes to fashion, Sydney Sweeney is always full of surprises. The 25-year-old actress was spotted in winterly London sporting an under-the-radar trend that’s about to be absolutely everywhere: rosettes.
Sweeney’s bubblegum pink strapless silk mini dress by Magda Butrym is a prime example of the motif that can be traced back to decorative rose shapes that adored footwear in the 1600s. Who What Wear has been tracking the latest resurgence of this niche pretty trend as seen on the fall/winter 2022 and spring/summer 2023 runways, and now that it’s awards season, rosettes are about to be in full bloom.
If flowers for spring feel too obvious, but you love the look of a floral statement, try adding a few fancy rosettes to your wardrobe. Stars like Hailey Bieber, Eddie Redmayne, and Mindy Kaling (who also works with Sweeney’s stylist, Molly Dickson) demonstrate how this simple floral detail can instantly elevate an outfit no matter the occasion.
Ahead, browse dresses and tops with rosettes in several sizes and colors. We can’t wait to see this trend grow into full bloom.
