  • Taylor Swift Allegedly Witnessed Ryan Reynolds Confront Justin Baldoni

New court documents suggest that Taylor Swift and Hugh Jackman allegedly witnessed Ryan Reynolds confronting Justin Baldoni over the filmmaker’s treatment of Blake Lively on the It Ends With Us set.

On Thursday, November 27, People cited an unsealed exhibit in the ongoing legal battle between Baldoni, 41, and Lively, 38, which includes a timeline that Baldoni’s Wayfarer Studios co-founder Jamey Heath allegedly sent to the director’s publicist in July 2024.

According to this timeline, Reynolds, 49, “unloaded” on Baldoni at his New York City penthouse on April 25, 2023 for allegedly asking about Lively’s weight. The Deadpool actor complained about Baldoni “fat shaming Blake,” after which Baldoni allegedly felt “completely embarrassed and apologized and even shared some tears,” according to the court document.

“[The] confrontation by Reynolds and Lively was so aggressive that Baldoni felt he had no choice but to offer repeated (and completely unwarranted) apologies,” Baldoni’s lawyers alleged.

Blake Lively‘s ongoing legal drama with Justin Baldoni took an unexpected turn by pulling in Taylor Swift. After costarring in It Ends With Us together, Lively sued Baldoni in December 2024 accusing her costar and director of of sexual harassment and orchestrating an alleged smear campaign. In her filing, Lively claimed that Baldoni named Swift […]

The exhibit specifically mentions that Swift, 35, and Jackman, 57, — who are longtime friends of Reynolds and Lively — were “also present in the [apartment] at the time.”

Us Weekly has reached out for comment from the parties mentioned in these new court documents.

TMZ previously cited a source close to the situation in February who said that Swift arrived at Lively and Reynolds’ penthouse without knowing about the couple’s intention to meet with Baldoni.

“Justin was about to leave after the 2-hour meeting as Taylor walked in, and she was introduced to him for the first and only time,” the insider told TMZ.

Swift reportedly expressed her excitement about It Ends With Us to Baldoni “because he was her friend’s boss,” according to the source.

Lively sued Baldoni for sexual harassment, retaliation, breach of contract, infliction of emotional distress, invasion of privacy and lost wages in December 2024. Baldoni has denied all of Lively’s allegations — and countersued in January, though his suit was later dismissed.

As part of her lawsuit, Lively alleged that Baldoni found “back-channel ways of criticizing her body and weight” while filming It Ends With Us.

“Lively was humiliated to learn that Mr. Baldoni secretly called her fitness trainer without her knowledge or permission, and implied that he wanted her to lose weight in two weeks,” the actress’s attorneys alleged in her lawsuit.

Baldoni’s lawyers later countered that he’d only reached out to Lively’s trainer because he’d have to lift her in an It Ends With Us scene — and he was allegedly worried about aggravating a longstanding back injury.

Meanwhile, Swift has repeatedly tried to distance herself from the case. Baldoni’s lawyers previously released a text message from the filmmaker to Lively, which referenced Swift in connection with It Ends With Us’ infamous rooftop scene.

“Was working on rooftop scene today, I really love what you did. It really does hep [sic] a lot,” he purportedly wrote. “Makes it so much more fun and interesting. (And I would have felt that way without Ryan and Taylor). You really are a talent across the board. Really excited nd [sic] grateful to do this together.”

When Swift was formally subpoenaed by Baldoni’s attorneys in May, her spokesperson insisted the singer “never set foot on the set of” It Ends With Us, nor did she make “casting or creative decisions,” beyond allowing her song “My Tears Ricochet” to be used in the film.

“She did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film,” her rep told Us on May 9, 2025. “She did not even see It Ends With Us until weeks after its public release, and was traveling around the globe during 2023 and 2024 headlining the biggest tour in history.”

Her spokesperson added, “Given that her involvement was licensing a song for the film, which 19 other artists also did, this document subpoena is designed to use Taylor Swift’s name to draw public interest by creating tabloid clickbait instead of focusing on the facts of the case.”

During the discovery process of Lively’s suit, Judge Lewis J. Liman struck down Team Baldoni’s attempt to depose Swift because it would fall outside the timeline allotted.

Us learned in November that both Swift and Jackman were on a list of names submitted by Lively’s lawyers for potential testimony at trial. Emily Blunt, Scooter Braun and Gigi Hadid were also named as people “likely to have discoverable information” about the It Ends With Us dispute.

Lively and Baldoni’s trial is set to begin March 9, 2026 unless the two sides can reach a settlement before that date. Lively’s attorney has confirmed that the former Gossip Girl star intends to testify during the trial.

  • VPR’s Scheana Shay and Lala Kent’s Feud: A Full Timeline Explained

Scheana Shay and Lala Kent are the latest Vanderpump Rules alums to be on the outs — but what led to their ongoing feud?

The former costars had their issues during their time on the hit Bravo series, but were able to form a bond after becoming mothers. Scheana and Lala were on good terms when their time on Vanderpump Rules came to an end, even planning their next steps together.

“Lala and I had a good cry about it on the podcast, something that was such a big part of my life for so long. But also I think it was time. Honestly, it all feels right. It’s still all happening. It’s just happening a little differently,” Scheana shared on a December 2024 episode of her “Scheananigans” podcast. “I don’t think I will change anything that I have been [doing].”

She continued: “I text Ariana [Madix] here and there. I ran into Katie [Maloney] at a festival, but I’m not going to reach out more [or] reach out less. I’m just going to continue doing what I’ve been doing because show or no show, all of these people have been in our lives for so long. So it’s like, ‘When I see you, I see you. And when I don’t, I’m living my life.’ I’m just going to continue on the same path I’m on and excited for new adventures.”

Several months later, Scheana and Lala sparked rumors of a rift after they stopped posting about each other. Scheana hinted that she was upset at several friends — including Lala — after they didn’t show any public support for her memoir, My Good Side.

Lala and Scheana initially claimed they remained on good terms. Scheana subsequently confirmed that they faced major ups and downs connected to her memoir revelation about her husband, Brock Davies, cheating on her in 2021 when she was pregnant with their daughter, Summer.

“That was my way of trying to keep our private matters private by publicly calling her. But the real reason [we aren’t on good terms] is not about the book,” she explained in October 2025 on her Scheananigans podcast. “The real reason — which I’ve alluded to in interviews but I didn’t want to put people completely on blast is because these are people I genuinely care about.”

Keep scrolling for a full breakdown of the ongoing feud:

After Scheana confirmed that Brock was unfaithful while she was pregnant, Lala was asked whether she knew, sharing on her “Give Them Lala” podcast, “Yes, I did. But not for a while. So that [excerpt] came out and Scheana called me and said, ‘I just want to give you the heads-up that tomorrow this article is coming out with the excerpt. And I may need to tap you in. I’m very nervous.’”

Lala continued. “I won’t share exactly what she said on the phone because that’s between her and her husband. But I thought the excerpt that was pulled from her book was beautifully written. Well done.”

Scheana later hinted on her podcast that she wasn’t on the best terms with Lala and the rest of her friends who didn’t help promote or endorse her memoir.

“I think it was like maybe a week after it came out, I saw she posted a slide [with the book]. There was nothing else that she posted,” Scheana recalled. “I had reached out to her a couple days after all of the boxes were delivered. Because yes, you do expect your closest friends to post and support.”

Scheana was surprised Lala didn’t share a post supporting her book release sooner.

“I sent everyone a really nice PR box. I’m sure you guys saw some others who posted it,” she continued. “And I reached out [to Lala] and I was like, ‘Hey, did your box come? Because I hadn’t seen it posted yet.’ I just wanted to make sure I didn’t need to reach out to the publisher to be like, ‘Hey, Lala didn’t get her box.’”

Scheana added: “She said that her brother and her mom deal with the packages and that she would have them check. But then a week went by and the box didn’t get posted. So I’m assuming she got it because she posted the book.”

While Scheana didn’t offer further details on her friendship with Lala, she noted that her daughter, Summer, and Lala’s eldest, Ocean, were “still friends.”

Scheana was the first one to break her silence and confirm an actual feud.

“After extending grace last week, I do feel the need to address it because Lala knows why our friendship is in the state that it’s in,” Scheana explained on her podcast, before claiming Lala “did not take accountability” for their feud. “This is not just about not posting my book for a week. It is about so much more than that.”

Scheana noted that Lala made their falling out public “without even realizing it.” According to Scheana, she found herself being asked often about where she stands with Lala but she would pretend they were on good terms — going as far as calling Lala during her live book shows so fans wouldn’t notice tension.

“Not one — but two — of my closest friends repeated the Brock affair story to other people. One of those that it was repeated to was Brittany [Cartwright]. I know Brittany doesn’t have bad intentions,” Scheana noted. “I wanted to tell her myself but I didn’t have a chance. That one that I can’t get over is Lala telling [our mutual friend] Jenna Willis, who I have not been on good terms with since last season.”

She continued: “Lala did it to humanize me because she said that Jenna was going so hard on me that she wanted to tell her about what I was actually going through. Now I understand the intent was not malicious. … I kept this to myself for two years and then I told one of my best, closest and dearest friends and you go and tell someone. That was extremely heartbreaking.”

After finding out that Lala told multiple people about Brock’s affair, Scheana asked for some space. Conversations about them filming The Valley made things turn sour between them as well in the aftermath.

“It was especially painful for me because Lala knew the dark place that I was in mentally. Finally, I was ready to open up to my close friends about this and she did the same thing. So she violated my trust in a way like that, I was like, ‘This is not a safe space for me. This is not a friendship I feel good in,’” she continued. “This has been a pattern of behavior for years. I remember Ariana and I would talk about this before every reunion, like, “Oh, are we ready for the Lala apology tour?’ Every year should treat me like s*** and then come to the reunion and cry and apologize and I would forgive her.”

Scheana wanted to take steps to protect her peace.

“I don’t want to just get over things and move on now. I want to place boundaries and have a little more respect for myself and the circle that I’m keeping. I want it to be people I trust,” she explained. “I feel safe in all of my friendships and now I don’t feel safe in this. I know she’s not used to me standing up for myself because in the past I just let people walk all over me and I sweep it under the rug. I couldn’t let this just be water under the bridge. It needs to be fully rebuilt and I don’t know if I want to rebuild it.”

    October 2025

Elsewhere in her podcast, Scheana called out Lala’s alleged behavior toward her.

“Some of our mutual friends [are] like, ‘Why do you put up with this? What are you gaining from this friendship?’ I just make excuses and make excuses and I’m always there for her,” she said. “Part of me wonders, did she instigate this over the summer to fuel her story line on The Valley? Because she’s only friends with a couple of them and I’m friends with all of them. So she has beef with me and then she gets in more episodes.”

Scheana addressed her decision to keep her distance from Lala.

“I would reach out multiple times privately because I wanted to hash this out privately. I’ve seen people saying this was manufactured for a story line and there is no truth to that. But I feel like the podcast episode that she just put out was purely performative,” Scheana said. “It’s one thing behind closed doors and one thing in front of the cameras and it’s just frustrating.”

She continued: “I’ve always had a soft spot for her and it is why I’ve put up with a lot of struggles in this friendship over the years. I know there is a good person there. You’re not always a good friend but I can forgive. I can move on but if we’re gonna do that then we need to put the full truth out there. You need to take full accountability. I found myself in the biggest thing I’ve ever done professionally and I’m just getting weighed down by Lala’s emotional manipulation yet again. There’s never going to be accountability in this friendship. The real issue in this friendship is not that Lala changed, it is that I’ve changed.”

    November 2025

During BravoCon 2025, it was confirmed that Lala was joining the cast — but Scheana wouldn’t after last minute conversations caused her to pull out. Lala, however, chose not to speak on the topic of Scheana.

“I have nothing to say about her,” Lala told Us.

  • Klay Thompson Defends Megan Thee Stallion Over Podcast Comments

Klay Thompson won’t sit by and let two former NBA players drag his girlfriend.

Thompson, 35, jumped into the comments of the “Hoopin’ N Hollerin’” podcast’s Instagram account on Wednesday, November 12, to defend Megan Thee Stallion after Jason Williams used a derogatory term to describe her to his cohost, Patrick Beverly.

“Referring to my GF as a ‘p****’ is so disgusting and disturbing,” the Dallas Mavericks star wrote. “Especially from someone who played in the NBA. How would yall feel if I referred to your wives in such a way ? @patbev21.”

“Do better fellas,” he added. “Very disappointing.”

Megan Thee Stallion and her NBA star boyfriend, Klay Thompson, are proving that couples who work out together, stay together! “Not I got him working out with no shoes on lol 🏋🏾‍♀️🏋🏽 his lil commentary 😂,” Megan, 30, wrote via Instagram on Saturday, July 19, sharing footage of the pair hitting the gym. In the […]

During the Tuesday, November 11, episode, Williams, 49, suggested that Thompson’s relationship with Megan, 30, could be the reason for his struggles on the court so far in 2025–26.

“I’m from West Virginia, man, I’ve been taught a lot from old folks, old white folks,” he said. “It only takes one p**** to drag a battleship across the desert. That’s how powerful it is.”

“Klay Thompson, I ain’t sayin’ that’s what it is,” he continued, “but that might be what it is.”

Thompson is averaging a career-low 8.5 points per game through 11 games this season, down from 14.0 per game last year. He is also shooting a career-worst 28.9 percent from three-point range and 32.1 percent from the field.

Thompson and Megan seemingly hard-launched their relationship in July when the four-time NBA champion posted a carousel of photos via Instagram that included shots of Megan — though her face was not shown. They eliminated any doubt a few days later, appearing together at the rapper’s Pete & Thomas Foundation Gala in New York City.

“Megan is such a special person, and she inspires so many around the world,” Thompson told Us Weekly exclusively at the gala. “I’ve seen it firsthand. This is just another incredible feat of hers to be able to give back, create foundation and raise a ton of money for those in need. And I’m honored to be here by her side.”

Meanwhile, Megan thought of her late parents, Joseph Pete III and Holly Thomas, for whom the foundation is named. She told Us that she believed they would approve of her new boyfriend.

“I feel like my mom would’ve been like, ‘Wow, you finally picked a nice man!’” she said. “We kissed a lot of frogs, but now we got a real prince! I feel like they would be very proud. My dad would be very happy.”

Thompson added that he would have loved to meet them.

“I know both of them would be so proud of their only daughter because of what — not only what she’s been able to accomplish, what she’s also going to continue to do,” he said. “She has never been put in a box, or allowed herself to be in a box, and she just continues to inspire so many people around the world. And, on top of that, raise a ton of money this evening and just do so much for so many in need.”

  • Luis Guzman Describes Former Costar Jennifer Lopez as ‘OK’

Wednesday actor Luis Guzmán didn’t pull any punches describing his Out of Sight costar Jennifer Lopez in a recent interview.

Guzmán, 69, appeared on the latest edition of Hot Ones Versus on Wednesday, August 27, with his Wednesday costars Jenna Ortega, Emma Myers, Joy Sunday and Georgie Farmer. In a roundtable interview over spicy hot wings, the actor was put in the hot seat to describe some of his past costars in just one word.

“You’ve worked with some of the biggest legends in Hollywood history. I will now run down a list of your previous collaborators and you must quickly give me one word that best describes,” Myers, 23, instructed Guzmán.

As Myers reeled off a list of Hollywood who’s who, Guzmán described Adam Sandler as “amazing” and Catherine Zeta-Jones, his onscreen wife on Wednesday, as “bellissima.”

But when Myers brought up Lopez, 56, Guzmán simply responded, “OK.”

The actor’s response shocked and awed his younger costars: Myers and Ortega let out stifled laughter, while Sunday, 30, appeared wide-eyed by Guzmán’s response.

As for his current costar, Ortega, 22, Guzmán called his onscreen daughter a “prodigy.” Ortega, sitting next to the actor, responded, “Aw, I love you.” Guzmán mouthed “I love you” back.

Guzmán and Lopez collaborated on 1998’s Out of Sight, the crime caper directed by Steven Soderbergh and also starring George Clooney, Ving Rhames, Don Cheadle and more.

In Out of Sight, Lopez played U.S. Marshal Karen Sisco, who is kidnapped by bank robber Jack Foley (Clooney) after he breaks out of prison. While their relationship is antagonistic at first, the pair slowly begin to fall for each other.

The film was notable for being among Lopez’s breakout movie roles. In fact, at the time of its release, New York Times critic Janet Maslin praised her performance, writing, “Ms. Lopez has her best movie role thus far, and she brings it both seductiveness and grit; if it was hard to imagine a hard-working, pistol-packing bombshell on the page, it couldn’t be easier here.”

Lopez reflected on the film’s legacy in a 2018 interview with GQ. “It kind of became a cult classic,” she said. “It didn’t get as much notice when it first came out at the box office. But now, years later, there’s so many people who tell me that was their favorite film. It’s crazy.”

  • Zach Bryan Accused by Gavin Adcock of Not Being ‘That Great’

Gavin Adcock continues to criticize Zach Bryan over his interaction with a teenage fan.

The country singer, 26, discussed Bryan, 29, on the Wednesday, August 20 episode of “Rolling Stone Nashville Now,” claiming, “I think that Zach Bryan puts on a big mask in his day-to-day life and sometimes he can’t help but rip it off and show his true colors. I don’t know if Zach Bryan’s really that great of a person.”

Earlier this summer, Adcock condemned how the “I Remember Everything” musician handled a complaint from a 14-year-old TikToker who had hoped to meet him following a recent concert.

“If you can’t handle the criticism of a 14 year old why do people idolize you?” Adcock wrote via X on July 22. “That kid was head over heels to meet you and spent/ parents spent a ton of money to see you. He’s got feeling too and a you’re a ‘grown man’ nearly 30.”

He added at the time, “They’re the only reason you are around.”

According to Whiskey Riff, Bryan defended himself when the teen took to TikTok and complained that he drove past fans who “waited four hours to meet him” after wrapping three nights of shows at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

“He didn’t even roll down his window to say hi,” the fan alleged in the post, prompting Bryan to surface in the comments section, replying, “You’re not entitled after someone plays two and a half hours to a picture or a hello. Get off my d***.”

He later explained, “I went out and took pictures both night one and three. I had a third show the next day and it was late, needed to rest.”

While speaking with “Nashville Now” host Joseph Hudak, Adcock doubled down on his previous remarks.

Us Weekly has reached out to a Bryan representative for comment.

Recently, Adcock vented his frustration about Beyoncé and her acclaimed Cowboy Carter album eclipsing his music on the country charts.

Kansas City has apparently seen the end of Zach Bryan’s live shows. The country star, 29, who supports the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL, engaged in an online war of words with a stream of Kansas City Chiefs fans on Friday, August 8, resulting in his X declaration, “Please understand I will never play in […]

“One of them’s Beyoncé … you can tell her we’re coming for her f***ing ass,” he said during a live show in June.

He continued: “That s*** ain’t country music, it ain’t ever been country music and it ain’t gonna be country music.”

Though Adcock may not be a fan, Cowboy Carter topped the U.S. Billboard 200 albums chart and became the first album by a Black woman to top the Billboard country albums chart.

On Tuesday, August 19, country singer Charley Crockett came to Beyoncé’s defense via Instagram, writing, “Hey country folks. @beyonce ain’t the source of your discontent. It was 25 years of bro country. … These ‘country boys’ been *singing* over trap beats for years.”

He added, “I don’t need to put down a black woman to advance my music. That’s just embarrassing to the idea of America and I got no respect for it.”

Paris Hilton Says She’d Consider ‘Remix’ With Lindsay Lohan After Feud

Back in the early-to-mid 2000s, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan’s friendship-turned-feud was infamous.

Now that they’ve both grown up and put their long-running feud behind them, could they be teaming up for a new project?

In an interview with Vulture, published Friday, September 20 to promote her new album Infinite Icons, Hilton was asked whether she’d consider joining forces musically with her former foe.

“I’m actually putting a remix album together right now. A remix with her would be so iconic. I love Lindsay,” Hilton, 43, responded. “Her album was sick.”

Hilton also complimented Lohan’s 2004 hit release, adding, “I love ‘Rumors’. That song is so good.”

While Lohan, 38, found success in both movies and music at the time, Hilton was in the spotlight thanks to her socialite status and for appearing on reality show The Simple Life from 2003 to 2007 alongside Nicole Richie.

In 2006, Hilton turned her hand to music and released her debut self-titled album, which featured lead single, “Stars are Blind” – an album she touched on in the interview with Vulture.

“When I was recording Paris, I was in my party-girl era, but I was very timid in the studio,” Hilton said before comparing the single to her newest release. “When I listen to ‘I’m Free,’ I can hear a woman who has discovered who she is. That’s why I wanted to make songs that are empowering, because that’s the direct effect they had on me.”

Hilton and Lohan were initially friends and made headlines for their nights out with other It Girls of the era. However, their bond turned sour in 2006 when the Mean Girls star was linked to Hilton’s ex Stavros Niarchos.

The sticky situation caused a rift and shortly afterward, the feud escalated when Hilton was filmed laughing while Lohan’s ex, Brandon Davis, publicly labeled Lohan a “firecrotch.”

Meanwhile, that same year Lohan was busted on tape calling Hilton a “c—”, intensifying the bad blood between the pair.

Years later, their feud still hadn’t died down. In December 2017, Hilton recounted the night in 2006 that she, Lohan and Britney Spears were photographed hanging out — dubbed ‘The Holy Trinity’ in headlines the next day.

“I just feel that we’re grown-ups now,” Hilton said during an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen” when asked about reconnecting with the Parent Trap star. “We’re not, like, in high school. I think it was very immature and now everything is all good.”

  • Will Sabrina Carpenter and Olivia Rodrigo Work It Out on the Remix?

Will Sabrina Carpenter and Olivia Rodrigo Work It Out on the Remix?

We’re in the best of times (brat summer), but we’re also in the worst of times (constantly fielding articles by Some Guy about how brat summer is dead). But how could brat summer be over if I feel it in my heart? If they’re still playing “Guess ft. Billie Eilish” at Tenants of the Trees in LA (where Charli XCX herself had her birthday party for some reason)? And if the impact of brat summer is still causing ripples through the culture it cannot be over.

No, I’m not talking about Kamala’s brat green rebrand. I’m talking about something more substantial — the very same thing that had last summer in the same chokehold: the infectious and irresistible power of girlhood.

Last summer caused a vibe shift. Culture started catering to women. Let’s be real: Women have been the drivers of pop culture for a long time. I, for one, will never forget that artists like The Beatles and Elvis, who are still taken seriously as iconic musical artists today, caused fanatical frenzies, not unlike artists like Justin Bieber and One Direction. Yet, despite our clear good taste, women have historically been written off as fickle while culture catered to men.

Just think of how the 2000s were defined by blockbuster summer movies. Usually, an action movie would dominate, followed by a “chick flick” that was relegated to date nights or the whims of teenage girls. Yet, when
Barbenheimer resurrected this dynamic, one had a clear chokehold on the internet and the world. And since I haven’t seen Oppenheimener-flavored Olipops, no prizes for guessing which one it was.

This summer isn’t defined by movies (Twisters and It Ends With Us aren’t the Barbenheimer redux we wanted) it’s characterized by music. And while the guys gave it the old college try — Kendrick did release the ultimate hater anthem with Not Like Us in the Spring — the girls take it yet again.

And despite seasonal albums from established pop stars like
Dua Lipa and Ariana Grande, queer (or queer-coded) female artists have blown up this summer. All of them have also been grafting behind the scenes for years before finally getting their flowers. But now the world is listening. We’re learning. And we’re obsessed.

Of course, there’s the princess of the summer,
Sabrina Carpenter, who is the latest Disney veteran to make it big. We’ll get to her Disney drama later, but this summer, it’s all about our Short n Sweet queen’s infectious earworms. We called it earlier this year: she is the moment. Her rise to fame has been inevitable.

Then there’s the surprise star of the year,
Chappell Roan. So glad bisexual women decided not to gatekeep this absolute star. The fact that I’ve been listening to Chappell since 2020 and I’m still not tired of “Pink Pony Club” says a lot.

    But
Charli XCX’s mainstream moment is arguably the most surprising. Charli is a giant to music lovers and, of course, the queer community. A real dyed-in-the-wool party girl, she grew up in the clubs and doesn’t just talk the talk, she throws the parties. Despite her collaborations with literally everyone, her Grammys, and her hits, Charli XCX is only now becoming a household name. Why? Because we’re finally ready for her.

Girlhood is brat. Brat is girlhood. Girl, it’s so confusing, but it’s about being a girl

Girlhood is the name of the game and Charli writes for the girls and the gays. Her album speaks to the desire to hold on to the feeling of youth juxtaposed with the realities of growing up. Who can’t relate? She talks about themes integral to girlhood: going on vacation and thinking it will change your life, going to a party and thinking it will change your life, and having dinner with a girl and thinking she hates you.

The latter was the impetus for the internet-breaking track “The girl, so confusing version with lorde.” After Charli released the original version of “girl, so confusing,” the internet rightly assumed it was about her years-long pseudo-beef with
Lorde. Lyrics like: “I’m all about throwing parties / You’re all about writing poems,” and “People say we’re alike, they say we’ve got the same hair,” added fuel to the fire of their reported feud. So imagine our surprise when Charli released a version with Lorde herself. Like Miss Ella, honestly, we were speechless.

Lorde knew what she was doing when she said: “When we put this to bed, the internet will go crazy.” Sure enough, the internet erupted. And it did the same once again when footage was released of the two scream-singing their instant classic of a collab at Charli’s birthday party. What a way to put the feud rumors to bed.

Will Sabrina Carpenter and Olivia Rodrigo work it out on the remix?

After Lorde and Charli worked out their decade of competition over a Jack Antonoff beat, the internet speculated: who would be next to quell their beef with the power of song? If it seems like the plot of a Disney movie, get in for the ride — the Disney of it all has just begun.

A few weeks ago, sources reported that former Disney stars turned stadium-selling pop stars Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina Carpenter might be collaborating on a song. With the upcoming release of Carpenter’s highly anticipated album sneaking up on us, fans speculate that this could be a surprise track waiting on the record.

If you don’t understand how earth-shattering this is, let me take you back to 2021, when
Olivia Rodrigo first took the world by storm with her song “drivers license.” The song, and subsequent album, chronicled her heartbreak about how her costar and ex-boyfriend Joshua Bassett left her for “that blonde girl.” The blonde in question? Sabrina Carpenter.

That’s right. Our very own me espresso was the villain in
the “drivers license” saga. And you mean to tell me the two of them have put their boy drama aside to collaborate? Please, please, please tell me if this is true. If it is, I’ll be sat watching it unfold. As if I needed another reason to eagerly await the release of Short N Sweet.

In the meantime, I’m making a list and checking it twice about all the other celebs I want to see quell their beef. And yes, the list gets more and more unhinged as you go down, tis the summer of collabs. And our favorite artists are proving that magic can be made if they do it together. Billie and Charli did it. Kendrick and the entire rap community did it. Who is next?

People we want to see work it out on the remix:

    One Direction

This is my ultimate dream. The
Paris Olympics may have made you fantasize about what life would be like if you hadn’t quit JV basketball, but it made me dream about seeing my beloved One Direction again. After all, I can’t watch an opening ceremony without thinking about their performance at the 2012 London Games. Stranger things have happened than a boyband reuniting. The second they announce a tour, I’m quitting my job and dedicating my life to following them around on tour. Hold me to that.

    Hilary Duff and Lindsay Lohan

The Sabrina Carpenter and Olivia Rodrigo feud is the closest our generation will ever get to experiencing the magnitude of drama caused by Lindsay Lohan and Hilary Duff. As the two defining Disney sensations turned movie stars of their time, Duff and Lohan were pitted against each other by the media. Everybody knew it: the two were rivals in their careers and in their relationships. We’ll never experience that kind of TMZ-stoked animosity again. But we’re older now. Duff and Lohan are both in new phases of their careers. If they worked it, the (millennial side of the) internet really would go crazy.

    Shawn Mendes and Justin Bieber

These two divas have been competing to be the prince of pop for years. And their silent feud runs deep. In a radio interview at the beginning of Shawn’s career, Justin responded to a question about the other Canadian crooner with the dismissive and deadly, “who’s Shawn Mendes?” Then, after Mendes appeared with Hailey Baldwin at the Met Gala in 2018, Bieber quickly reignited his relationship with our favorite nepo baby and married her. Talk about winning the battle. The two already have a song together, “
Monster,” but no one is buying that they’ve really worked it out. I want to see Shawn at Justin and Hailey’s baby shower or bust.

    Justin Bieber and Harry Styles

Speaking of pop feuds, Bieber and Styles have been toeing a tension-laden line since 2012. Rumors swirled that One Direction was supposed to open for Bieber on his
Believe tour but the plans were canceled — and dreams died. Reasons abound as to why but I suppose we’ll never know. As someone who attended that Believe tour, I have been waiting for them to work it out on the remix ever since.

Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato and Miley Cyrus and The Jonas Brothers

Other feuds from my childhood I want fixed: the Disney Channel stars involved in the seminal sustainability single, “Send It On.” That was our Fleetwood Mac
Rumors. With loyalties crossed, relationships breaking friendships, and a whole lot of teen angst going on, the Disney Channel producers had one song and one song only to change lives. While we were watching “Send It On” play during Disney breaks, we had no clue about the drama simmering beneath the surface. But imagine if they put that to bed? The internet would go crazy.

    Joe Jonas and Taylor Swift

Of all of Taylor’s exes, she’s clearly already worked it out with Taylor Lautner — who was backflipping across her Eras tour stages for a brief stint last summer. But the reconciliation I really want is between Taylor and Joe. Sure, she’s written some scathing songs about him. And she told the world on
Ellen that he broke up with her in 17 seconds. And she’s befriended Sophie Turner. But for a brief moment, Taylor made up with Kanye West, so stranger things have happened. Can you imagine a mashup between “SOS” by The Jonas Brothers and “The Story of US” by Taylor Swift? My Spotify Wrapped would become unshareable.

    Katy Perry and Taylor Swift

Though allegedly this feud started due to the backup dancers, Perry has become one of
Swift’s famed list of enemies. And as the queen of “Karma,” Swifties know that all of Taylor’s adversaries never fare well — just look at Ye or Scooter Braun. Katy Perry’s comeback might be another one of these casualties. Ouch. If the two managed to reconcile their “Bad Blood,” imagine the album Katy Perry would create.

    Nelly Furtado and Fergie

    Remember the song “
Give It To Me” by Timbaland, Nelly Furtado, and Justin Timberlake? Thanks to TikTok, the song experienced a recent resurgence. But did you know the entire song is a diss track? Justin Timberlake’s verse is about Prince (more insane than “what tour? The world tour”), Timbaland’s verse is about Scott Storch, and Nelly Furtado’s verse is about Fergie. But what if we stopped pitting two pop icons against each other and instead begged them both to have a comeback … together?

    The Don’t Worry Darling Cast

    The
Don’t Worry Darling press tour pitted all our favorite stars against each other in the public arena: Harry Styles, Florence Pugh, Olivia Wilde, Chris Pine, and Gemma Chan. And while that trainwreck of a movie doesn’t need a sequel, I would animatedly watch one just to keep keen eyes on the press tour.

The It Ends With Us Cast

If we thought there would never be another press tour as dramatic as
Don’t Worry Darling, Justin Baldoni of the It Ends With Us cast just hired Johnny Depp’s lawyer — so it’s inarguably surpassed its dramatic predecessor. With Blake Lively and Baldoni both waging a press war, some are hoping It Ends With Us will just … end. But I need a little entertainment to tide me over into fall. And if the movie itself won’t provide it, the hope of a last-gasp reconciliation might.

    Kendrick Lamar and Drake

I know this will never happen. In fact, if it did, I’d
lose some respect for Kendrick, honestly. But sometimes I like to imagine that all of this was just marketing for a joint album a la “Watch the Throne.”

  • The Week of Laying to Rest a Feud Remixes: “The Boy Is Mine” and “Girl, so confusing”

The Week of Laying to Rest a Feud Remixes: “The Boy Is Mine” and “Girl, so confusing”

In what is perhaps a “sign o’ the times” for the world of pop, the week in music has offered an overarching theme that centers on “laying to rest feuds.” Or, as Junior LaBeija would put it, “Category is: ‘laying to rest feuds.’” Ariana Grande and Charli XCX are weirdly in sync about this topic, for both pop stars have seen fit to put out remixes that are decidedly “bury the hatchet”-chic. In Grande’s case, the “burial” comes in the form of a remix of her latest single, “the boy is mine,” and in Charli’s, it’s another arbitrary remix (like “360” featuring Robyn and Yung Lean) from Brat: “Girl, so confusing.” The latter features Lorde, one of the public figures that Charli was speculated to be singing about on the track (the other was MARINA).

Indeed, Brat is an album all about trying to tame the green-eyed monster (hence Charli coming up with the shade that will henceforth be called “Brat green”)…or at least subdue it slightly into submission. And even Taylor Swift appears to be a source of inspiration for Charli’s insecurity flare-ups, as evidenced by another song on the record, “Sympathy is a knife.” On this particular track, XCX confesses, “I don’t wanna share the space/I don’t wanna force a smile/This one girl taps my insecurities/Don’t know if it’s real or if I’m spiraling.” Or if the media is a key force in fueling these types of anxieties. After all, Brandy and Monica represented one of the earliest modern examples (following Madonna and Cyndi Lauper—though there wasn’t ultimately much of a comparison there) of how various outlets relish reporting on so-called rivalries between two “similar” female artists. In the wake of Brandy and Monica, there would be Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Lopez and Mariah Carey (though that’s still a pretty real feud…for Mariah), Lily Allen and Amy Winehouse, Taylor Swift and Katy Perry (fueled by Taylor herself), Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina Carpenter—and many others in between. Including, of course, Charli XCX and Lorde.

While the two have never shared an outright feud in the same way as Brandy and Monica, who were more openly pitted against one another during a time when there was hardly as much space for Black female musicians to thrive (not that there’s all that much now either), there was always a little bit of resentment there. More openly on Charli’s part perhaps…particularly as she was the one who had to deal with being mistaken for Lorde during the Pure Heroine era despite having been in the music game long before the New Zealander traipsed into town (so to speak) with the automatic hit that was 2013’s “Royals.” So it is that Charli pulls no punches when she admits on the song, “Yeah, I don’t know if you like me/Sometimes I think you might hate me/Sometimes I think I might hate you/Maybe you just wanna be me/You always say, ‘Let’s go out’/So we go eat at a restaurant/Sometimes it feels a bit awkward/‘Cause we don’t have much in common.” Save for the crippling sense of self-doubt that even the most successful of women can’t seem to shake.

In the revamped version of the song, Lorde responds to these specific lyrics with, “You’d always say, ‘Let’s go out’/But then I’d cancel last minute/I was so lost in my head/And scared to be in your pictures/‘Cause for the last couple years I’ve been at war in my body/I tried to starve myself thinner/And then I gained all the weight back/I was trapped in the hatred/And your life seemed so awesome/I never thought for a second/My voice was in your head.”

This deeply personal addition to the song layers it with the exact message Charli was talking about when she told The Guardian, “Relationships between women are super-complex… You can like someone and dislike them at the same time; you can have the best time of your life on a night out with someone but not be that close to them at all.” Lorde has fallen into the former category for XCX, mainly as a result of the Brat green-eyed monster affecting her feelings toward the fellow acclaimed singer. Ironically enough, though, in the same interview, Charli insists that female rivalry in the entertainment industry has died down compared to previous decades, remarking, “We’ve got past the point of the media always pitting women against one another. In the mid to late 00s, it literally sold magazines and papers: ‘Britney versus Christina,’ ‘Paris versus Lindsay.’ Then feminism became a popular marketing tool. In the music industry, it was distilled into this idea that if you support women, and you like other women, then you’re a good feminist. The reverse of that is, if you don’t like all other women who exist and breathe on this Earth then you’re a bad feminist. If you’re not a girl’s girl then you’re a bad woman.” And, speaking of that phrase, “girl’s girl,” it was weaponized against Ariana Grande in the aftermath of her “homewrecker” scandal. Specifically, when Ethan Slater’s ex-wife, Lilly Jay, called out Grande for not being a “girl’s girl.” Because “girl’s girls” don’t allow themselves to fall into the trap of being “the other woman.” They instead choose to “walk away”—or simply get the dude in question to actually leave his wife.

Maybe that’s why Grande is quite deliberate in having Monica tout the line, “Well, he better sort out his business, ‘cause I’ll never be nobody’s mistress.” A lyric that also shows how far Brandy and Monica have come since their teen years when they were singing this song. This declaration is also one that “absolves” Grande of being a homewrecker in the rawer sense of the word. Instead, she falls more into the category of the scenario described by Olivia Rodrigo on “traitor” when ripping into the bloke that left her, “It took you two weeks/To go off and date her/Guess you didn’t cheat/But you’re still a traitor.”

This sense of feeling stabbed in the back by the woman who “took” her man (in lieu of blaming the man himself for his shady actions) only adding to the overall sense of competitiveness between women. Rightfully convinced of the scarcity of men to “possess” (that is, in terms of the somewhat straight ones who are non-bald and non-short…Grande didn’t quite care about the latter description when it came to pursuing Slater). So on the one hand, there is this remix that addresses a common trope for why women feud—because of a guy—and on the other there’s Charli and Lorde’s remix that addresses another all-too-familiar trope: women being jealous of each other’s looks and success—even their “aura.” But both tropes, more often than not, relate to competing for a man because “being better” is how they’re able to catch and hold his attention. Because, yes, unfortunately, much of what women do is still latently rooted in attracting the male gaze. Worse still, male approval.

At the same time, women are just as concerned with gaining the favor of other women. As Charli was when she had to deal with the public shaming from MARINA in 2016 after the “that FROOT looks familiar” debacle. Which is what makes it so momentous that MARINA was actually moved enough by the “Girl, so confusing” remix to publicly comment (yet again), “THIS IS BEAUTIFUL. Just cried listening to it. It’s so courageous and human to make work about this topic and it’s so healing to listen to it. Congratulations on an iconic album @charlixcx.” And yes, she was probably just glad to learn that Charli didn’t end up admitting the song was about her instead of Lorde. Though both Lorde and MARINA can be accused of having “the same hair” as Charli at one point or another…

Signs of Lorde’s involvement with the record were already noticeable when she declared on social media, “The only album I’ve ever pre-saved is out today… Charli just cooked this one different. So much grit, grace & skin in the game. I speak for all of us when I say it’s an honor to be moved, changed and gagged by her work. There is NO ONE like this bitch.” That statement feels like a retroactive “Easter egg” about the lyrical contributions she would provide for this particular song.

As for Brandy and Monica, their feud might be laid to rest in their personal lives, but for the sake of the song, they can still bring the catty, possessive vibe necessary for a theme of this nature, presently singing, “How could you still be so disillusioned after all of this time, time?/I told you once before, I’ll tell you once more, the boy is still mine, mine.” In his mind, of course, he’s both of theirs, thinks there’s “plenty” of him to go around. And such casual, cavalier thinking on many a man’s part is what helps keep stoking the fires of female competitiveness. Also manifest in Charli allegedly referring to Taylor Swift on “Sympathy is a knife” when she laments, “‘Cause I couldn’t even be her if I tried/I’m opposite, I’m on the other side/I feel all these feelings I can’t control/Oh no, don’t know why…/Why I wanna buy a gun?/Why I wanna shoot myself?/Volatilе at war with my dialogue.”

Perhaps the only way to mitigate some of that negative dialogue is by hashing it out with the other woman in question. The one who’s causing all this envy—yet who might actually be envious as well. For no woman, no matter how seemingly self-confident, is immune to the trap of low self-esteem/self-regard that tends to be a more pervasive affliction among this particular gender.

  • Girl, so confusing (To Some) That Charli XCX and Lorde Have Joined Forces

Girl, so confusing (To Some) That Charli XCX and Lorde Have Joined Forces

While some may be convinced that a Lorde-featuring remix of “Girl, so confusing” is just a red herring to distract from the fact that it’s still ultimately referring to MARINA (#thatfrootlooksfamiliar), Charli XCX seems to want to put fan theories about a feud between her and the other big-haired singer to rest. It actually appears to be a week of “laying to rest feud” songs, with Ariana Grande also achieving the impossible and getting Brandy and Monica to come together on her own remix of “the boy is mine.” But with Charli and Lorde, the signs of the “feud” were subtler, even though they arose from the same place: women feeling jealous of one another’s success thanks to the assumption that there isn’t “enough room” for “everyone” (read: just women) in the entertainment industry. Even though Britney Spears, angel that she is (or at least that’s how Spring Breakers bills her), did once declare, “There’s room for all of us” at one of the many press conferences of her early career.

If only that were true. Alas, in the present landscape, the competition between women in music has only seemed to become more fierce as they vie for the ever-diminishing attention spans of listeners who can barely focus on a song that’s longer than two minutes, let alone multiple artists that keep cropping up like a game of whack-a-mole. That Lorde herself “cropped up” in 2013 was a bit of a bane for Charli XCX. For this similar-looking girl (a.k.a. they both had dark, curly, big hair) came along right before XCX was finally about to break through ever so slightly into the mainstream with 2014’s “Boom Clap.” And since people apparently can’t differentiate women who have the same hair color (see also: Lady Gaga dyeing her hair blonde early in her career to avoid being confused with Amy Winehouse), it was going to be a problem. So much that she was actually mistaken for Lorde during a now illustrious TV interview. Rather than correcting the interviewer (a fellow female, to boot), however, Charli decided to just run with it.

Two years prior to 2014, her name was becoming more prominent thanks to her feature on Icona Pop’s “I Love It,” but it wasn’t her own solo effort. “Boom Clap” would mark her full-on breakthrough on the charts, but only after she was featured on yet another hit that same year: Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy.” Alas, in Charli’s mind, a lot of that success was mitigated by how easy it seemed for Lorde to get “all the flowers” right away. Whereas Charli had already been around since 2008, creating her version of Lana Del Ray a.k.a. Lizzy Grant in the form of an unreleased album called 14 (technically before Adele thought to start naming her own records after her age, as Charli was recording some of these tracks as early as 2006).

It was in the booklet of said album, distributed to a very select few, that Charli wrote, “The songs I write are about my mates and experiences.” Not much has really changed on that front, with the entire Brat album being a reflection of those two preferred topics. Except that Lorde falls somewhere in between. Not necessarily a full-on “mate” (though maybe more of an “experience”), Lorde has been, at the very least, something of a “driving force” in XCX’s professional life, with the latter at one point commenting, “When ‘Royals’ came out, I was super jealous of the success that that song got, and that Ella got. You piece all this stuff together in your brain, like: ‘She was into my music. She had big hair; I had big hair. She wore black lipstick; I once wore black lipstick.’ You create these parallels and think, ‘Well, that could have been me.’”

Instead, Charli was destined to take a much more circuitous path toward becoming a respected, applauded pop star of her own kind. Nonetheless, “Girl, so confusing” sets out to address many of those early insecurities that have lingered on even after XCX’s irrefutable success. But it’s been hard-won in comparison to Lorde’s, a singer who was instantaneously embraced and praised for her brilliance. Deemed a musical prodigy (like Charli, Lorde also has the benefit of synesthesia to help her compose songs) from the outset, it’s easy to understand why XCX would home in on Lorde as a source of envy. That XCX’s debut album, True Romance, was released five months before Lorde’s in 2013 also set a competitive precedent in that, technically, the two were “launched” the same year. To add insult to Charli’s injury, Lorde was also garnering more praise and sales at an even younger age than Charli (the two are four years apart).

The difference in their paths, personalities and general “vibes” couldn’t have been more apparent than in the only photos of the two of them together that exist (apart from that rando snap of them with Carly Rae Jepsen)—taken at the 2014 VMAs. In one of them, Charli holds up two peace signs while sticking her tongue out in typical bombastic Leo fashion while Lorde, ever-staid, cool, calm and collected (such a Scorpio), stands next to her with a close-mouthed half-smile. Her aura of disinterested ennui being something that Charli only managed to cultivate much later, having perfected it in the Crash era.

In the meantime, Lorde’s own lack of confidence seems to have shined through more openly in recent years—and perhaps most openly of all in the lengthy verse she contributes to the “Girl, so confusing” remix (marking her second release of the year after a cover of “Take Me to the River” for Everyone’s Getting Involved: A Tribute to Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense). For there is a portion where she gets extremely candid about her body image issues via the lines, “You’d always say, ‘Let’s go out’/But then I’d cancel last minute/I was so lost in my head/And scared to be in your pictures/‘Cause for the last couple years/I’ve been at war with my body/I tried to starve myself thinner/And then I gained all the weight back.”

Considering that women in the public eye are deemed “fair game” for the media on all matters body critical, it’s no wonder Lorde would be paranoid about having her photo taken in a state of anything less than “perfection” (by warped societal standards). Knowing full well it could be dissected and analyzed for all of eternity on the internet. XCX knows all about this heightened fear too, commenting on her own struggles with body dysmorphia on “Rewind” as she admits, “Nowadays, I only eat at the good restaurants/But, honestly, I’m always thinking ’bout my weight.”

The power in joining together—especially in the wake of so much speculation as to whether or not they had “beef” (though, again, it’s nothing compared to the speculation about XCX and MARINA’s beef)—comes at a time when patriarchal forces still seek to keep women pitted against one another. Some recent examples include Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina Carpenter (which spawned the latter’s “because i like a boy”), or Olivia Rodrigo and Taylor Swift (surprisingly, though, not Olivia Rodrigo and Billie Eilish), or Taylor Swift and Charli herself, or Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish—or, shit, Taylor Swift and every other female artist. Thus, for two women in the music business to team up like this does not go unnoticed. Nor does its powerful message.

Lorde’s candor about female competitiveness only adds to the remix’s power as she sings, “I was trapped in the hatred/And your life seemed so awesome/I never thought for a second/My voice was in your head/‘Girl, you walk like a bitch’/When I was ten, someone said that/And it’s just self-defense/Until you’re building a weapon.” In other words, protecting yourself, as a woman, can end up turning dangerous for other women who are just as insecure. Take, for example, Lily Allen stating of her early twenties propensity to openly criticize other women (including the fellow singer she was pitted against at the time, Amy Winehouse) that she was extremely dissatisfied with her own self during this period (Paris Hilton would make a similar assessment of her rampant racist and homophobic comments in the 00s).

Putting forth a “tough as nails” facade, women convince both genders that they’re impervious to what anyone thinks when, in fact, they’re crumpling over in fear of others’ opinions on the inside. Thus, Lorde adds to her verse, “She believed my projection/And now I totally get it/Forgot that inside the icon/There’s still a young girl from Essex.” In short, even Lorde can forget, thanks to her own deft ability to project a false persona and confidence, that Charli has probably been doing the same. That she’s still, in spite of the steely exterior, that unformed rave scene girl at heart.

The two singers eventually join one another to sing a version of the chorus that goes, “People say we’re alike/They say we’ve got the same hair/It’s you and me on the coin/The industry loves to spend/And when we put this to bed/The internet will go crazy/I’m glad I know how you feel.” It’s after this line that Lorde goes back to singing solo so she can say, once and for all: “‘Cause I ride for you, Charli.” Only during the outro can Charli finally return the sentiment with the declaration, “You know I ride for you too.” It only took about ten years to get to that point, but hey, some feuds between women never end at all (here’s looking at you, Bette and Joan).

And yet, XCX still leaves the feud potentially open for further fodder when the song concludes with: “It’s so confusing-ing” (which plays in the same pitch as Grimes). Perhaps confusing enough to make Charli and Lorde fall into old competitive habits once more. Though hopefully it’s nothing but “love you, mean its” and musical collabs from here on out. Because the two do pair (un)surprisingly well together.

  • With “The Boy Is Mine” Remix, Ariana Grande Puts A Mostly Faux Feud to Rest

With “The Boy Is Mine” Remix, Ariana Grande Puts A Mostly Faux Feud to Rest

In 1998, few songs had as much of a chokehold on the nation as Brandy and Monica’s “The Boy Is Mine.” In fact, it came in at number two on Billboard’s Year-End Hot 100 singles list, bested by, of all things, Next’s “Too Close” at number one for the year. Not only was “The Boy Is Mine” better as a song, but also as a video—even if the logistics presented in said video proved to be a highly unrealistic nightmare. With all of that in mind, to have the balls to release a song called “the boy is mine” in a similar style and pitch (regardless of “enough time” passing) was not only a huge risk on Ariana Grande’s part, but also a potentially huge affront. After all, who is she to take up the mantle for Brandy and Monica?

Fortunately, Grande found a double whammy kind of way to pay homage to the R&B duo’s masterwork by not only featuring them in her video for the song (with a Catwoman-inspired premise that continues to build on Grande’s movie tribute universe), but also having them jump on a remix version of the track. While some quipped that there was hardly any room for more vocal layering on this song, it manages to work much better as a remix than the “yes, and?” one that featured a surprisingly out of place Mariah Carey on it. Perhaps because two singers vying for dominance in such a similar pitch all the time simply ends up canceling the other one out.

In any case, “yes, and?” now comes across as an especially inferior remix compared to “the boy is mine.” What’s more, Grande’s overarching theme on the track differentiates itself from Brandy and Monica’s in that, while it still focuses on the idea of “possession,” its larger focus is on a sense of “destiny,” “stars aligning,” etc. In short, that it’s through no fault of her own that the boy is hers, he simply is because “God” or whoever willed it so.

Accordingly, there’s less braggadocio involved on Ariana’s rendering than there is on the original, with Monica taking the lead on the mea culpa/“not my fault” verse that goes, “Please know this ain’t what I planned for/Probably wouldn’t bet a dime or my life on/There’s gotta be a reason why/My girls, they always come through in a sticky situation/Say, ‘It’s fine’ (it’s fine)/Happens all the time.” In truth, compared to 1998’s “The Boy Is Mine,” Monica is much more noticeable on this track, her vocals being more present than Brandy’s, who was the ostensible “star” of the original song. Indeed, part of the reason Monica was tapped for a feature on “The Boy Is Mine” in the first place was to capitalize on the presumed rivalry between the two similarly aged solo artists at that time. A rivalry that both women ended up playing into because they were teenagers (granted, at the end of their teenage years when the song was recorded and released) easily susceptible to suggestion and competition.

Buying into the hype around their rivalry was something that crested for both women in September of 1998. A moment highlighted, in an interview with Monica’s producer, Dallas Austin, for Vlad TV a few years back. One during which he brought up their supposed altercation. In yet another interview for Vlad TV with Brandy’s producer for the song, Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, it is, presciently enough, mentioned there was a rumor that Darkchild might remake the song with Ariana Grande. He balked, “That was a rumor,” adding, “To me it would never do justice for it to be done over with two females unless they don’t like each other.” This, of course, is a very male take on the matter. For it has always served men to have women pitted against one another in the media so as to make them look both frivolous and foolish (and, where a rival record label is concerned, to force women to have more “drive” when it comes to upping their game on sales). This is in part why it was rather groundbreaking for Grande to say nothing during the media furor surrounding her homewrecking romance with Ethan Slater, after which Slater’s fresh ex-wife, Lilly Jay, released a statement in which she said of Grande, “She’s not a girl’s girl.” A withering statement for a pop star with a largely female audience.

Nonetheless, Grande’s “fairy princess” vibe (further solidified by playing Gilda) managed to return as 2024 rolled around and the release of her seventh album, Eternal Sunshine, was upon the masses. For few could resist the “shake it off” (Mariah reference intended) attitude of “yes, and?”—which would turn out to be the only single Grande chose to put out before the record’s release. In between “yes, and?” and “the boy is mine,” there was the much more serious “we can’t be friends (wait for your love).” For it seems Grande wanted to unveil a more tongue-in-cheek side of the album yet again, even though it is filled with woeful ruminations inspired by her divorce from Dalton Gomez (e.g., “don’t wanna break up again,” “eternal sunshine” and “i wish i hated you”). And for “tongue-in-cheekness” assistance, there can be no better duo than Brandy and Monica (except maybe Patsy and Edina).

In many ways, certain lyrics of “the boy is mine” remix apply to the relationship between Brandy and Monica themselves. Namely, “And I know that this is meant to be and I/I’ll show you accountability and empathy and sympathy/How could you still be so disillusioned after all of this time time?” That “disillusionment” effortlessly applying to the on-again, off-again feud between the two singers. Crystallized even further by the aforementioned lore that Monica “punched” (though a slap, at best, seems more believable) Brandy before their only live performance together of “The Boy Is Mine” at the 1998 VMAs. The fact that the two weren’t seen together again for years afterward only fanned the flames of speculation. In addition to how neither one seemed game to reteam for another collab. That is, until 2012, with the single, “It All Belongs To Me.” As Brandy noted of what took so long to duet again, “[Monica] didn’t want us doing a new collaboration to affect the old collaboration.” Because no matter what new song they put out, or how excited the fans were about the prospect, it would always be pitted against “The Boy Is Mine”—much the same way that Brandy and Monica were perennially pitted against one another.

Hence, when their second song together did get the green light, it was unfortunate that a dark pall had to be cast over the single. This as a consequence of the release date coinciding with the death of their respective mentors, Whitney Houston, on February 11, 2012. The single came out just two days later. And although designed to be more empowering instead of kowtowing (to a man), many critics were quick to jump on its lackluster nature in comparison to “The Boy Is Mine.” Another comparison that came up was Beyoncé’s “Irreplaceable.” And yet, “It All Belongs To Me” is actually far more cutting than that, with Brandy and Monica savagely reminding their respective former objects of affection just who pays for all of his shit (though, in this regard, too, Beyoncé still comes to mind in the form of Destiny’s Child’s “Bills Bills Bills”). But perhaps the song was too chock-full of “references” in every way, with the video also pulling inspo from Waiting to Exhale (the car burning scene, duh) and, in its way, Thelma and Louise. In short, it didn’t capture the same “magic” or “lightning in a bottle” as “The Boy Is Mine” (even though that song, too, wasn’t entirely original in that its premise was extrapolated from Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney’s “The Girl Is Mine”—not to mention, as Brandy stated, watching The Jerry Springer Show…though she left out the part where she was, indeed, involved in her own very dramatic love triangle a few years earlier with Wanya Morris of Boyz II Men and Adina Howard).

The lyrics of the song also didn’t come across quite as timelessly, with Brandy and Monica choosing to rhyme MacBook with Facebook (almost on par with 50 Cent saying, “If you be a nympho/I be a nympho”). All of which is to say that Grande has achieved no small feat in reuniting the two for what is likely to be the closest they’ll ever come to “The Boy Is Mine” again (for obvious reasons). In a promo clip posted the day before the remix’s release, Brandy and Monica return in their newscaster guises from the video for “the boy is mine,” with Monica asking Brandy, “How did we decide this is the time?” Brandy shrugs, “Because we’re on it. Periodt.” Monica adds, “They called us, see that’s what I’m saying. When you call us, I barks with Ariana. She knew to call the girls.” Brandy then praises, “She can really really sing.” Another big compliment from an industry titan. Even so, Grande knows to step aside for large portions of the remix and let the iconic duo take their spotlight to help reimagine a concept they perfected.

One of the verses they add in for the remix is also particularly poignant, as it speaks to a shift in women’s attitudes since 1998. Presently unwilling to play the “mistress” role for the sake of getting only a small modicum of time with the man who claims to “love” them. Thus, they sing in harmony, “Yeah, said he wanna make plans with me/But I don’t fuck with affairs, you see, I know/But listen what they say to me/‘If it ain’t broke then it can’t be broken’/Well, he better sort out his business/‘Cause I’ll never be nobody’s mistress.” As for the “If it ain’t broke it can’t be broken” line, it feels like some clear shade at Lilly Jay, who still wants to put all the blame on Grande for the dissolution of her marriage. Resultantly, with this remix, Grande has put a few matters to rest for good…or at least for now.

Travis Scott and Alexander “AE” Edwards got into an altercation after the rapper dissed Tyga at the Cannes Film Festival, a source exclusively tells Us Weekly.

According to an eyewitness, the Friday, May 24, incident began when Scott, 33, and Tyga, 34, were on stage at an event hosted by nightclub tycoon Richie Akiva. The onlooker told Us that Akiva gave Tyga a shoutout but Scott “grabbed the mic” out of Akiva’s hand to stop it, which led to Alexander “AE” Edwards getting involved.

“AE started talking back to Travis. There was a big group of all their friends on stage as well. Travis walked off the stage and came back with Southside, who started yelling at AE,” the witness claimed. “Travis tried to push AE off the stage and then all three were shoving each other. AE got a hold of Travis and threw him off the stage.”

The eyewitness alleged that Tyga was behind the DJ booth the whole time but his assistant got involved. Security broke up the fight and Scott left with Southside while AE, 36, and Tyga stayed behind.

AE tried to tell Scott that Akiva was “just showing love” to Tyga. While Scott initially stormed off stage, he later returned to confront AE with Southside and they became “erratic.”

How Kim Kardashian Feels About Taylor Swift’s TTPD Diss Track

Celebrities are fair game when it comes to Taylor Swift songs, a lesson Kim Kardashian has learned firsthand with 2024’s The Tortured Poets Department.

“Kim isn’t happy about it but doesn’t want to add fuel to the fire,” a source exclusively tells Us Weekly of Kardashian’s reaction to Swift’s “thanK you aIMee,” which is speculated to be about their past feud involving Kanye West.

The Kardashians star, 43, is “upset that Taylor is still harboring negative feelings toward her,” according to the insider. “She thought that their issues were in the past,” the source adds.

While Kardashian “had no idea she was going to be a part of this narrative,” the insider says she “did think this could happen at some point knowing how Taylor writes her music.”

Although Kardashian has yet to publicly comment on the Swift’s new song, she did give her first interview since the drop on Monday, April 22, telling Jimmy Kimmel, “Life is good.”

The following day, the Skims founder posted a 2022 throwback selfie via her Instagram Stories of herself, sister Khloé Kardashian and Swift’s former BFF Karlie Kloss. (Kloss, 31, and Swift were inseparable for years before an alleged falling out.)

In case you missed it, Us has plenty of info to break down TTPD. And while upon first glance, “thanK you aIMee” appears to be about someone named Aimee, but eagle-eyed fans quickly pointed out that the capital letters in the title spell out “Kim.”

In addition to the title nod, Swift, 34, alludes to her drama with Kardashian in the lyrics.

“When I picture my hometown / There’s a bronze spray-tanned statue of you,” she sings, seemingly describing Los Angeles. “And a plaque underneath it / That threatens to push me down the stairs at our school.”

Swift then slams Kardashian (or Aimee) for being a bully and “throwin’ punches” while she was “buildin’ something.”

The singer claims that it was never a “fair fight” between the women. She alleges that her nemesis was always “stomping across” her “grave” and “laughing at each baby step I’d take.”

Swift ultimately thanks her foe, singing, “I can’t forget the way you made me heal.”

Kardashian and Swift’s rift dates back to 2009 when the reality star’s now ex-husband West, 46, interrupted Swift’s MTV VMAs acceptance speech. West declared that Beyoncé deserved the award, which left the crowd speechless.

The rapper alleged in his 2016 “Famous” song that the awards show debacle propelled Swift to superstardom. Swift, meanwhile, slammed West for the lyric, “Me and Taylor still might have sex / I made that b—h famous,” claiming she did not sign off on it.

Kardashian defended her then-spouse, releasing a phone conversation between West and Swift, which was allegedly recorded without her consent. When Kardashian unveiled the footage via Snapchat she added snake emojis, which Swift referenced throughout her Reputation album.

In 2020, the feud reignited when the full version of Swift’s leaked phone conversation with West was released and proved she was “telling the truth the whole time.”

The following year, Kardashian turned heads when she complimented Swift’s music in an appearance on the “Honestly With Bari Weis” podcast. “I really like a lot of her songs,” she claimed in 2021. “They’re all super cute and catchy. I’d have to look in my phone to get a name.”

Despite being dissed in “thanK you aIMee,” the Skims founder would like to bury the hatchet with Swift once and for all. (Fans also think Swift commented on Kardashian’s past snake comments in her new track “Cassandra,” which features the lyrics “So, they filled my cell with snakes, I regret to say / Do you believe me now?”)

“That was a different time in Kim’s life and she feels her whole life is different now and she’s in a better place,” the source tells Us of Kardashian and West’s 2021 divorced.

When it comes to Swift, Kardashian would “love to mend things between them,” the insider says, “Kim truly wishes Taylor the best and hopes they can move on.”

Taylor Swift has been branded music’s “biggest gangster” by rapper Drake amid her seeming feud with Kim Kardashian.

As Us Weekly reported yesterday, Kardashian, 43, has lost a whopping 120,000 and counting social media followers in the few days since Swift released her scathing revenge song, “thanK you aIMee,” which is said to be a diss track aimed at the reality star. Kardashian has faced backlash since Swift, 34, released the song on Friday, April 19, which includes lyrics like, “Everyone knows that my mother is a saintly woman / But she used to say she wished that you were dead.”

Now Drake, 37, has waded into the fray with “Taylor Made Freestyle.”  The star, who, like Swift, has had his own past beef with Kardashian and her ex-husband Kanye West, has praised the chart-topper for her impact in the new song — albeit a diss track between him and her rapper pal Kendrick Lamar.

The TTPD hitmaker woke up yesterday to a firestorm which saw her dragged into a rap battle between the two hip-hop stars as the central character. In a shocking turn, Drake dedicated the entire track to Swift, even using her name in the title, to get under Lamar’s skin.

Lamar, 36, famously became pals with Swift over a decade ago when she shared that she was a fan of his music and proved just how much by impressively reciting the lyrics of his hit song “Backseat Freestyle” in a social media video.

Lamar, who is one of the world’s most respected and successful rappers, then showed he became a bit of a Swiftie by breaking his “no commercial pop songs” stance for the first time ever in 2015 and recording a verse on Swift’s “Bad Blood” remix. The two are said to have remained friends since, which Drake has clearly noticed.

His fresh beef with Lamar, which kicked off last month after Lamar joined forces with fellow rappers Future and ASAP Rocky to randomly drop diss tracks against Drake, has sent shockwaves through the hip-hop world as the pair were once pals.

There was no explanation given as to what has sparked the fallout, but Swift is somehow now firmly ensconced in it.

Drake hit back against Lamar with a diss track of his own called “Push Ups” on April 13 and has followed it up with another song in which he hailed Swift — not Lamar — as the “biggest gangster.”

Swift had been expected to slam her exes on her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, yet Kardashian received the biggest blow.

Beyond its title, “thanK you aIMee” does not pull punches, with Swift opening the song by singing that when she pictures her hometown — presumably Los Angeles — there’s a “bronze spray-tanned statue” of “Aimee” with a “plaque underneath it that threatens to push me down the stairs at our school.”

The track declares “Aimee” as Swift’s teenage-style bully. “All that time you were throwin’ punches, I was buildin’ somethin’ / And I can’t forgive the way you made me feel / Screamed ‘F–k you, Aimee’ to the night sky, as the blood was gushin’,” she seethes on the track, before giving her nemesis some credit: “But I can’t forget the way you made me heal.”

Swift also says it was never a “fair fight” between the pair, or a “clean kill.” She alludes to Kardashian “stomping across” her “grave” and writing headlines “laughing at each baby step I’d take.”

Swift and Kardashian’s feud goes back over a decade, which began with the reality star’s now ex-husband, Kanye West, taking to the stage at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2009 to declare that Beyoncé deserved an award that Swift had just won. In 2016, Swift slammed West for rapping the line, “Me and Taylor still might have sex / I made that bitch famous” in one of his songs, causing Kardashian to come to his defense by releasing a phone conversation between the two musicians.

Kardashian also posted a bunch of snakes for “National Snake Day” to shame Swift. The singer hit back with her 2017  album, Reputation, opening up about the feud in an essay with Elle two years later.

“It would be nice if we could get an apology from people who bully us, but maybe all I’ll ever get is the satisfaction of knowing I could survive it, and thrive in spite of it,” she wrote for the publication in 2019.

NeNe Leakes slammed former Real Housewives of Atlanta costar Porsha Williams for allegedly refusing to work with her on the set of Netflix’s The Upshaws.

In a series of posts shared via Instagram Story on Friday, March 15, Leakes, 56, shared that her management company had approached her with an offer from The Upshaws (starring Mike Epps and Wanda Sykes) saying the series was “interested in casting [her] for a part” in an episode directed by Kim Fields.

“I was excited to do it. It’s a comedy, I love comedy [and] I used to have a comedy show … so comedy is something I love to do and was really happy to do it,” Leakes said. “They told me that Porsha Williams Guobadia was also playing in this particular series. She would be side-by-side with me. I was excited, I hadn’t seen Porsha. We always have a good laugh when we see each other, so I was like, ‘Me and Porsha gonna kill this part.’”

The former RHOA star reportedly landed in Los Angeles and went to the Upshaws set expecting to see Williams, 42, at the show’s rehearsal, but she was a no-show. “Porsha never came,” Leakes said. “Production called me and asked me if I had any issues with any Housewives because they were going to be recasting the other position.”

Leakes said she told production that she had no issues with any Housewives, but Williams’ role eventually went to RHOA’s Cynthia Bailey instead.

“I was later told that Porsha did not show up and said that she did not want to work with me, that we had had issues from the past and she did not want to work with me,” Leakes said, adding that she was “shocked” and “more than disappointed” by the outcome. She added that she and Williams had “double-dated a few times,” taking trips together to places like Miami, Dubai and Las Vegas.

“I am shocked to hear that Porsha would go to a production company and say that she doesn’t want to work with me because we’ve had a lot of issues in the past. What lots of issues did we have in the past?” Leakes asked. “We don’t have any issues that we can’t work together. We are professionals.”

Once a peach, always a peach! The Real Housewives of Atlanta has said goodbye to a few cast members since its Bravo debut in 2008 — but there’s always a chance they could return. For instance, original RHOA star NeNe Leakes left the show in season 7 before rejoining the cast in 2018. “It’s been a […]

In 2019, Williams publicly called out Leakes for “fat-shaming” her just days after giving birth to her first child. Leakes later served Williams with a cease and desist letter after she shared screenshots via Instagram of text messages Leakes had sent her at the time, wherein she allegedly called Williams “a lying ass fat hungry bitch,” among other things.

“We’ve had petty things, we’re on a reality show,” Leakes said via Instagram Story in 2024. “So we obviously are gonna have some sort of issues. But we’ve not had anything where we could not work together. I’m sad and disappointed that Porsha would go to any company and say that she’s had issues with me and that we cannot work together. That is a lie.”

Leakes also claimed she had texted Williams before posting to her Instagram Story, who allegedly replied saying she was “going through a divorce and [Leakes] didn’t reach out to little sis.” Williams filed for divorce from her husband Simon Guobadia in February after 15 months of marriage.

“The bottom line is, Porsha did not want to share the spotlight. That’s it. And professionals can share the spotlight,” Leakes concluded in her video. “Porsha is not a star. She is a Bravolebrity. Be clear.”

In December 2018, a source shared with Us Weekly that Williams was being iced out by Leakes. “There’s no reason that NeNe and Porsha can’t be friends,” the source said at the time. “It’s on NeNe’s end. There’s nothing Porsha can do to maintain a friendship with NeNe if it’s going to be like this.”

Sharon Osbourne says she can’t find any work across the pond.

On an episode of ITV’s Celebrity Big Brother that aired in the UK on Thursday, March 7, Osbourne, 71, claimed that she had been “banned in America” due to her firing from The Talk in 2021 after accusations of racist behavior behind the scenes.

“I got banned in America,” Osbourne told her Celebrity Big Brother housemates Lauren Simon and Louis Walsh. “I did nothing wrong.” When asked by Simon if she could find work in the US, Osbourne shared, “I can legally…but nobody will employ me because they say I am racist.

Simon responded to this by noting that Osbourne is Jewish, to which the Osbournes alum replied, “I know, and that’s what I said to them!” She continued, “They think we don’t know what it’s like to be picked on. I wouldn’t pick on anyone because of their race or religion, ever.”

Sharon Osbourne’s foray into the spotlight began when she was hired as now-husband Ozzy Osbourne’s talent manager. Nearly three years after Sharon came aboard Ozzy’s team, they tied the knot — and they are still going strong more than four decades later. “The person that makes me laugh the most is my husband,” Sharon exclusively […]

In March 2021, Osbourne defended her friend and media personality Piers Morgan for his comments about Meghan Markle’s CBS interview, in which she discussed experiencing racism and suicidal thoughts. Morgan’s comments, wherein he questioned the validity of Markle’s statements, were met with backlash from the public.

“Did I like everything he said? Did I agree with what he said? No,” Osbourne said on The Talk at the time. “Because it’s his opinion. It’s not my opinion… I support him for his freedom of speech, and he’s my friend.”

Osbourne’s co-host, Sheryl Underwood, responded, “While you are standing by your friend, it appears that you are giving validation or safe haven to something that he has uttered that is racist.”

The former X Factor judge came to her own defense in response to Underwood. “I feel like I’m about to be put in the electric chair because I have a friend who many people think is racist, so that makes me a racist,” she said.

Following these comments, Osbourne was further accused of racist and homophobic behavior behind the scenes of The Talk. Though she denied these allegations, she was fired from the show shortly after.

“The events of the March 10 broadcast were upsetting to everyone involved, including the audience watching at home,” CBS said in a statement at the time. “As part of our review, we concluded that Sharon’s behavior toward her co-hosts during the March 10 episode did not align with our values for a respectful workplace.”

Osbourne previously claimed in April 2022 that her career suffered a major blow after the Talk debacle. (She had been with the daytime talk show since 2010.)

“They said to me, ‘You are on permanent suspension. We don’t think that you’re repentant enough. And we will decide whether you ever come back,’” the TV personality told The Sunday Times. “And I said, ‘Well, who’s going to make that decision?’ And they said, ‘We can’t tell you.’”

Osbourne also shared that while her career in the U.K. was not affected by the controversy, the well of opportunities in the U.S. seemed to dry up instantly.

“My phone as far as my TV career [in America was concerned] was nonexistent, not one call. Nothing,” she said at the time. “In England and Australia, it never changed. Here it was like I was dead.”

  • Miley Cyrus Was ‘Fully Aware’ of Noah Cyrus, Dominic Purcell’s Romance

Miley Cyrus Was ‘Fully Aware’ of Noah Cyrus, Dominic Purcell’s Romance

Miley Cyrus was “fully aware” of her sister Noah Cyrus ‘ relationship with Dominic Purcell before Tish Cyrus entered the picture, a source exclusively reveals in the latest issue of Us Weekly.

Miley, 31, “absolutely knew” Noah, 24, was dating Purcell, 54, when their mother, Tish, 56, started pursuing the actor, according to multiple sources.

Contrary to recent reports, a second source tells Us that Noah “was not Dominic’s ex” when Tish began dating the Prison Break alum in 2022. “They were seeing each other when he started dating Tish,” the insider says.

Despite knowing the truth, the first source claims that Miley “took her mom’s side” and did “everything in her power” to keep Noah from crashing Tish and Purcell’s August 2023 wedding.

However, a third source tells Us that Miley tried to stay out of the family drama, but her strong bond with Tish won out. “Miley believes [the family rift is] beyond repair at this time,” the insider explains. “Miley’s devastated her family’s been torn apart.”

At this point, Noah “refuses to communicate” with her sister, and Tish is “not open to any reconciliation” with Noah, the source adds.

Rumblings of a Cyrus family feud began in summer 2023 when Noah and brother Braison Cyrus were noticeably absent from Tish’s Malibu wedding. (Tish shares Miley, Braison, 29, and Noah with ex-husband Billy Ray Cyrus. Tish is also mom to Brandi, 36, and Trace, 35, from a previous marriage.)

From Miley Cyrus’ rebellious past to Billy Ray Cyrus and Tish Cryus’ multiple splits, the Cyrus family has had their fair share of controversies over the years. Billy Ray and Tish — who were wed from 1993 to 2022 — welcomed children Miley, Braison Cyrus and Noah Cyrus together. After Billy Ray and Tish tied […]

During Tish’s wedding weekend, Noah was spotted wearing a T-shirt with her dad’s face on it at Walmart, leading some fans to speculate she was Team Billy Ray after his 2022 divorce from Tish. However, a separate source exclusively told Us in February that Noah was not invited to Tish’s nuptials after friction over Purcell.

“The turmoil between Noah and Tish goes far beyond [what people think],” the insider said, claiming, “Noah is very distraught over Tish stealing Dominic from her.” Tish “was aware” of Noah’s involvement with the actor, according to the source.

Noah and Purcell were together for “about 8 to 9 months” but were “having issues” when Tish entered the picture, another insider told Us last month.

All siblings have their fair share of ups and downs, including Miley Cyrus and her younger sister, Noah Cyrus. Miley rose to fame starring on the hit Disney Channel series Hannah Montana alongside their dad, Billy Ray Cyrus. Noah made several appearances on the children’s show and had a small cameo in 2009’s Hannah Montana: […]

Relationship woes or not, Tish’s romance with Purcell has caused a rift between Tish and Noah, who “haven’t spoken since the whole thing happened with Dominic,” the insider said.

In addition to the alleged love triangle between Tish, Noah and Purcell, Miley is seemingly at odds with her father, 62, since he married Firerose in October 2023.

A source previously told Us in August 2023 that Tish was aware “divorce might be challenging” for her kids since she and Billy Ray were together for 30 years. A second insider said that Tish was “sad the family are at odds over her and Billy Ray’s respective romances.”

Miley appeared to comment on her friction with Billy Ray during her 2024 Grammys speech in February, when she didn’t mention him. She did thank her mom, her eldest sister, Brandi, and her boyfriend, Maxx Morando.

After revealing she was in “shock” when she won Record of the Year for her song “Flowers,” Miley released a full speech via social media. (Miley later won Best Pop Solo Performance at the awards show.)

Billy Ray, however, was once again left out, as were three of Miley’s four siblings: Trace, Braison and Noah. Miley’s godmother, Dolly Parton, meanwhile, did get a shout-out in the second speech. “I felt your fairy everywhere,” she wrote of Parton.

  • Taylor Swift ‘Isn’t Concerned’ About Kanye West’s ‘Carnival’ Namedrop

Taylor Swift ‘Isn’t Concerned’ About Kanye West’s ‘Carnival’ Namedrop

Taylor Swift forgot Kanye West existed — so she has no bad blood when it comes to being name-dropped in his new song “Carnival.”

“[Taylor] has so much on her plate and isn’t concerned with what Kanye is or isn’t doing,” a source exclusively shares in the latest issue of Us Weekly. “She has no plans on responding publicly or privately.”

West and Swift’s rivalry began back in 2009 during the pop star’s acceptance speech for Best Female Video the MTV VMAs. During Swift’s acceptance speech, West hopped on stage to share that Beyoncé had one of the “best music videos of all time” for “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It).”

The feud exploded in 2016 when West claimed Swift permitted him to name-check her in his track “Famous.” Swift, however, claimed she never approved of the line, “I made that bitch famous.”  West’s ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, later shared a secretly recorded video of the duo’s conversation, leading Swift to request she be “excluded from the narrative.”

Brad Barket/Getty Images for Fast Company

“From Taylor’s point of view, this beef is one-sided,” a second insider tells Us. “Kanye is trying to get back in the spotlight and an easy way to do that is through Taylor, who has completely moved on.”

“Carnival” is a track featured on West and  Ty Dolla $ign’s album, Vultures 1, which dropped on Saturday, February 17. The song comes just days after rumors swirled that Swift had kicked West out of Super Bowl LVIII for purchasing tickets in front of her private suite. The speculation sparked when former NFL player Brandon Marshall made the accusation during his “Paper Route” podcast earlier this month, claiming that Swift was “pissed off” and made a “call or two” to get West booted from the event.

West’s rep, however, told TMZ that the reports were nothing more than “a completely fabricated rumor.” (CBS showed West and wife Bianca Censori in the stands during the game, indicating that he was never tossed from Allegiant Stadium.)

While Swift may be leaving the drama in the past, she, like West, has also written about their tension over the years. After the VMAs incident, the singer released “Innocent” on her 2010 album Speak Now, which detailed a 35-year-old man “still growing up.” At the time, Swift explained why it was important for her to craft the ballad — and why she wasn’t interested in a pity party.

“I think a lot of people expected me to write a song about [West],” she told New York Magazine. “But, for me, it was important to write a song to him. It doesn’t really add anything good if I start victimizing myself and complaining about things. Because I’m proud of that performance at the VMAs last year, where my fans helped me get through it.”

Swift noted that she is someone who feels “everything” that happens to her, adding, “I’ve never had this thick skin. It’s not like I am bulletproof in any sense of the word.”

While “Innocent” was a gentler approach to West, her song “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things” off of 2016’s Reputation took a harsher tone after the duo’s infamous phone contributed to Swift leaving the spotlight for more than a year.

“You have a fully manufactured frame job in an illegally recorded phone call, which Kim Kardashian edited and then put out to say to everyone that I was a liar,” Swift explained during her TIME person of the year cover story in December 2023. “That took me down psychologically to a place I’ve never been before. I moved to a foreign country. I didn’t leave a rental house for a year. I was afraid to get on phone calls. I pushed away most people in my life because I didn’t trust anyone anymore. I went down really, really hard.”

Whether or not Swift will mention West in her upcoming 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, remains to be seen. The record hits shelves on April 19 and includes the track “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived,” a title that has left some fans to believe it could be about the rapper.

  • Charmed’s Holly Marie Combs Is ‘Disappointed’ in Alyssa Milano

Charmed’s Holly Marie Combs Is ‘Disappointed’ in Alyssa Milano

Holly Marie Combs is standing up for Shannen Doherty after Alyssa Milano denied certain recollections of drama on the set of Charmed.

“In the spirit of not being a the [sic] quiet one or the middle child anymore, I feel the need to defend myself after the many continuing attacks that have ensued since Alyssa stepped out on the stage and essentially called Shannen and I liars when she was simply asked what it was like to work with Rose [McGowan],” Combs, 50, wrote via Instagram on Monday, February 5. “Suffice it to say, I’m a little shocked and a little disappointed by the things she posted the next day while texting me simultaneously words to the contrary.”

Milano, 51, and Combs played sisters on The WB’s Charmed from 1998 to 2006. Doherty, 52, played the eldest Halliwell sibling through the first three seasons until her character was killed off. She and Combs recently alleged that Milano had Doherty fired. (McGowan, 50, was introduced as a younger half-sister in Charmed season 4.)

Milano took to Instagram to deny the accusations on Saturday, February 3. “I don’t know one other show that has had the success that Charmed had where the cast still speaks ill of the experience a quarter of a century later. This is 15 movies and 13 TV shows ago for me,” Milano wrote. “This was 11 years before my 15-year marriage and 13 years before having my first child. This was so long ago that any retelling of these stories from anyone is just revisionist history.”

Related: ‘Charmed’ Behind-the-Scenes Drama Over the Years: A Timeline

The power of three will set us free … from everything but drama. Charmed, which premiered on The WB in 1998, made headlines from the start as Aaron Spelling hired Shannen Doherty to play one of the three Halliwell sisters, four years after she was infamously let go from Spelling Television’s Beverly Hills, 90210. “[Aaron] […]

Doherty and Combs both take issue with Milano claiming they are rewriting their past.

“First off, this is not revisionist history,” Combs continued in her statement on Monday. “This is just the history she didn’t want people to know about. And the history Shannen wasn’t ready to talk about until one month ago. We are all thankfully at the age where people are writing books, memoirs and telling their life story. No one should have to lie about their own life for the comfort of another.”

Combs said she often tried to play peacemaker. Her character, Piper Halliwell, was the middle sister and her role in the cast often felt like that of a middle child.

“Although I have long wanted the girls to just get along for the sake of something bigger than all of us combined, it was not in the cards. Clearly,” she said. “We are all very different and equally headstrong which was the essence of Charmed to begin with. I often yelled at one or the other to lay off the other many a time as Alyssa and Rose can attest to. And this was after Charmed. Being the middle child sucks.”

She reiterated that she and other cast members have long held back some stories to protect audiences who considered the show to be a source of comfort. “When Shannen and I went to dinner in Florida this week and the host wanted to tell us how the show saved his life. …. It’s stories like his that made me not want to address this story,” Combs explained. “But alas it’s not my nature to cower in a corner. And I have a big problem with injustice. I heard that Alyssa said she did not have the power to fire anyone which is ironic because this was actually all about power. But let’s go with that and let me explain what she did have the power to do.”

Shannen Doherty made a name for herself in film and television, becoming a household name in the ‘90s. Her career took her from navigating one of TV’s most memorable love triangles to casting spells to reviving some of her beloved roles decades later. The actress was born in Memphis, Tennessee, in April 1971. She got […]

Combs said Milano “had the power [to] stop the process at any time,” noting that Milano didn’t have to speak to the on-set mediator and could have asked producers not to fire Doherty. She even claimed that Doherty told executives not to fire Milano despite their disagreements.

“There was a case being built which is now clear. A case Alyssa and Alyssa alone had the power to stop,” Combs alleged. “And when producers said ok we will let Shannen go Alyssa also had the power to say no I don’t want that. But she did not. She had the power to say no just as Shannen had said no I don’t want you to replace Alyssa when posed with the same option. Because she was a child actor who supported a family just as Alyssa does and understood the great importance and responsibility of that. Even now this pains me to write. It was heartbreaking then and still now.”

She added that she still believes producers are the most at fault for Doherty’s firing. “And I think a lot of blame still remains with the producers who knew it was easier to keep us divided as opposed to united. 3 broken pieces were easier to control and manipulate than one united front. Which would have been more costly and cut into their precious profit margin,” Combs speculated. “But in the end it all worked out as destiny would have it.”

Combs viewed McGowan’s arrival as a blessing. “And we all got Rose who was a beacon in a dark time for me and we went on to develop a deep surprising and supportive connection to this day just as Paige and Piper did,” she said of the actress. “And now Rose and Shannen have a growing friendship and support system all their own which make my little black heart grow. So I will say don’t despair for the Charmed family. You are actually our only common denominator. We are still a family of survivors and we always will be. Truly.”

Combs concluded, “Charmed was made for all of you and lastly the truth of the matter is we all are, despite our differences, incredibly grateful for this dysfunctional family in every way. The End.”

McGowan commented on Combs’ post to show her support. “I love your big black heart and respect you, HMC,” she said. “I love what the show has meant to people worldwide. Sometimes a mess has to be made for things to be cleaned up. This for me is way bigger than a tv show, it goes to years of continuous behind the scenes character assassination and targeted reputation smearing because of narcissistic pathological jealousy. I wish none of it had to be this way. I remain proud of everyone involved for the magic we wove and the magic created worldwide. Truth is uncomfortable, but magic never dies ❤️.”

Both McGowan and Combs were alongside Doherty as she responded to Milano’s denial on Sunday, February 4, at MegaCon in Orlando, Florida. Milano had a separate panel the day prior where she denied Doherty’s claims.

“There is no revisionist history happening in the truth that I know we told. There’s no brush flinging or shoe flinging. There is no lateness to set. There is no mediator for months on end,” Doherty explained, in part, while on stage with McGowan and Combs. “I recall the facts as if I were still living in them. And what I will say is that what somebody else may call ‘drama’ is an actual trauma for me, that I have been living through it for an extremely long time. And it is only through my battle with cancer that I decided to address this trauma and be open and honest about it so that I can actually heal from a livelihood that was taken from me, a livelihood that was taken away from my family, because someone else wanted to be No. 1 on the call sheet. That is the truth.”
