Australia’s biggest night in music is here — the 2023 ARIA Awards. Hosted each year on behalf of the Australia Recording Industry Association (ARIA), artists and celebrities from around the world come together to celebrate the very best Aussie musicians. It’s also an opportunity to see some stunning and mesmerising fashion looks, and this year is no exception.
Celebrities will be strutting up the red carpet to show off their fabulous fashion moments before heading inside Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion for the show.
Based on the ARIA red carpet looks from last year, we can expect some bold choices from a number of stars. Genesis Owusu blew us away with a fur-fishnet combo. Dami Im hit us with a full fave of colour. And Peach PRC served up pink, babydoll realness. What will we see this year?
We’re expecting Troye Sivan to drum up some noise on-the-ground with his nominations for “Best Pop Release”, “Best Solo Artist” and “Best Dance/Electronic Release”.
And of course, we’re hoping to see plenty of adorable couple moments. Will G Flip and Chrishell Stause give us a loved up couples look? Only time will tell!
Without further ado, here are the best fashion looks from the 2023 ARIA Awards Red Carpet.
If you’re looking for party season styling inspo, you rarely need to look further than Emily Ratajkowski.
The official queen of risqué fashion moments that always strike the perfect balance, EmRata‘s outfits are almost always jaw-dropping but never feel over-the-top. A certified fashion icon, she can work just about every style – from oversized suiting to double denim and red carpet gowns, but there’s no doubt that her repertoire of ‘out out’ outfits are some of the best.
This week’s instalment was kicked off early, with a Monday night look that quite frankly put our own pyjamas-by-8pm Monday aesthetic to shame.

A little black dress with red appliquéd roses running down the centre atop a series of bold cut-outs, it was one of those super easy pieces you just know she threw on and immediately looked incredible with little need for accessorising.
Of course, being Emily Ratajkowski, it was styled to perfection. Paired with a little black bag and black sandals, she layered the pretty major LBD over a pair of black tights – proving that even the boldest dressers succumb to the weather sometimes.
Appliquéd Ruched Cut-Out Dress
The Magda Butrym dress – which is still in-stock, for those of you with your party season shopping list primed and ready – is one of those hard-working wardrobe items that you’ll reach for time and time again when your originally-planned outfit doesn’t quite work out.
For anyone at university circa 2010, you’ll remember one trend: American Apparel disco pants and while we thought this one was as dead as Scrooge’s best pal Marley, Kylie Jenner seems to breathing new life into the world’s shiniest pants. Fashion really is absolutely cyclical.
The Kylie Cosmetics founder was photographed in New York while supporting her boyfriend Timothée Chalamet on Saturday Night Live wearing a pair of black disco-style pants with a fitted asymmetric off-the-shoulder black top. Basically, 2023’s version of trousers and a nice top. Of course, she pulls it off, even with sandals and socks.

Are we ready for this resurgence again? We’re not sure. It’s certainly bringing back buried fashion memories. You see, disco pants weren’t just for discos, they were for any occasion. Nights out, lectures, the gym, the nurse’s appointment to pick up your contraceptive pill. No, they weren’t washed much. Like Kylie’s version, they had to be skin tight, this, after all, was a time long before baggy became cool, before sauntering around with side-popper trackies and boyfriend jeans was a thing.
We’ll give it to Kylie, she makes disco pants look almost minimalist, chic even. Maybe disco pants are ready for a comeback, in a less statement-making, low-key kind of way. We’ll leave 2010’s accompanying whiplash-style hair and visible neon thongs to 2010 though.
Amelia Gray Hamlin has had one hell of a year. The model and daughter of former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Lisa Rinna and Harry Hamlin, Amelia burst onto the fashion scene with a bold look that immediately caught the eyes of fashion’s elite, putting her in the same category as household names like Kendall Jenner and those Hadid sisters. At just 22, she’s walked the runway for luxury brands like Balenciaga, Chanel, and Diesel, and recently starred in the Fall 2023 Miu Miu campaign. Clearly, her rocketing trajectory shows no signs of stopping.
Outside of fashion month and magazine spreads, she’s also made a name for herself thanks to her uniquely Y2K-inspired way of dressing. From Matrix-esque futuristic fits to looks that channel peak Hollywood socialite vibes (think: vintage Louis Vuitton x Murakami bags, baby doll tees, and transparent shield sunglasses), Amelia’s style is like opening a fun 2000s fashion vault. Just this week, she turned heads in a nipple-baring, see-through Azzedine Alaïa dress at the 2023 CFDA Awards and in an all-black leather look at Glamour‘s Women of the Year awards. So it’s no surprise she partnered with Motorola to spotlight the relaunch of the Razr, arguably one of the most iconic and stylish phones from the aughts.
Photo: Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images
Like the original Razr, the reimagined device is not just a phone but also a fashion accessory, with a folding OLED display that modernizes its look and ups the tech ante. (Yes, you can still sassily snap it closed to hang up a call.) The new smartphone comes in a variety of hues and finishes sure to fit your unique style. Amelia herself opts for a cool shade of blue, joking, “I actually went with the light blue instead of the light pink—shocking.”
Below, Amelia chats with StyleCaster about Y2K fashion and tech, her blossoming modeling career, and of course, the Rinna of it all.
This interview has been edited and condensed for clarity.
StyleCaster: The Motorola Razr was one of my first phones, so when I saw you partnered with the brand, I was pumped.
Amelia Gray Hamlin: OMG, mine too! I remember getting it at the Verizon store. It was black and the texture was very soft—I can’t really explain it—and then it had red accents, so it was very fitting. That’s still very much my aesthetic. Razr raised me!
SC: Is that why you chose to team up with Motorola for the relaunch of the Razr?
AGH: It’s so nostalgic for my generation, and it’s such a full-circle moment. My generation and this phone, like, we grew up together. For the reiteration of it, they did it all so beautifully. The concept is so cool and smart. It’s a smartphone that you can fold into your pocket. It does every single thing that every other phone does, and it has a major camera.
Photo: Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images for Glamour
SC: Because of its aesthetic, it’s almost like a fashion accessory itself.
AGH: I’m obsessed. I do have some designing inspirations [and tips] for them: maybe little shells that you can pop on in different colors. I feel like that was a thing back in the day.
SC: That was! I forgot about those.
AGH: Right?! I’m looking at mine. She’s gorg. She’s blue. It makes me really happy when I look at it. And I put little stickers on it. It’s kind of just perfect.
SC: You’re gearing up to attend Glamour’s Women of the Year Awards with Motorola. Do you have any must-do getting-ready rituals for major events?
AGH: I think I’ve started to finally enjoy the process. In the past, I’ve done everything alone. And I haven’t known my people. When you don’t know your people or what you like, it’s hard to feel comfortable in a situation like a big event where you get all dressed up. Now, I love to play dress-up. These events are so freeing and so inspiring for me because I get to choose what I want to wear, and that’s really fun.
SC: The Razr was super popular in the 2000s. What do you think of the resurgence of 2000s, Y2K-inspired style?
AGH: I’m loving. I’m bringing back tattoo chokers! Fun fact: I was actually on a Zara shoot not too long ago and the stylist knew to bring this tattoo choker—that was the end. I took that choker home with me. I’ve decided that is the new trend that we’re bringing back. Sorry if you hate it, it’s gonna happen. It’s happening. I also love all of the 2000s trends coming back because I was young and couldn’t really express myself with those trends the way that I can now. It’s major to have a resurgence and a take-two.
SC: I love that. You’ve had a crazy year, and your modeling career has just skyrocketed. Have you had pinch-me moments, or any designer runways you’ve really been excited to walk for?
AGH: Every single one. Every single moment has been a pinch-me moment. Every single designer I’ve worked for, I’ve dreamt of working for. It’s all just so insane. And I’m just so over the moon—grateful and excited. I just really love my life and everyone involved. It just makes me want to cry. I’m really lucky.
SC: Do you have other models that you look up to or turn to for inspiration in terms of your walk or poses?
AGH: I am really trying to learn to be my own inspiration. I’m trying to answer that question with me, but I can’t because I’m not totally there yet. But I think that I more so gravitate towards any ’90s supermodel—I can’t just pick one though.
SC: I like what you said about being your own inspiration.
SC: We’ve seen your mom all over fashion month this year. What’s it like to have her in the front row?
AGH: When I have her in the audience, I know that I’ll at least get, well, I think that I’ll get one really great video of myself walking. But she never seems to know when I’m coming and always gets either the girl in front of me or after me. God bless her. But you know what it feels like? It feels like growing up. I don’t know if you resonate with this, but I’m sure other people do: I was always forced to do, like, theater and plays and musicals and things like that. I think I did about 15 throughout my childhood, and my mom and dad would always come into my plays and musicals. And when she’s sitting in the audience of a show that I’m walking, it feels like my mom’s coming to my high school play or middle school musical. It’s really fun, really cute like that. And I get more nervous having her there.
Actually, my dad has never been to one of my shows. I really, really want him to, but I just know he’s gonna cry. Bless him. I’m always, like, in the lineup, super nervous being like, my mom’s in the audience. God forbid I trip in front of my mom, like, I do be tripping. Like, thank God, nobody ever sees but like, I’m human. It’s happened and if it happened in front of her I’d be really sad.
I feel like I’m just getting started and I’ve only just scratched the surface.
Amelia Gray Hamlin
SC: On RHOBH, she’s showcased her expansive fashion archive. Do you have any specific pieces that she’s passed on to you that are very treasured?
AGH: She’s given me nothing. I have absolutely nothing. She kind of forgot to archive and didn’t do it. See, in our genes, we have this really fun little OCD bug that we were bit by, from my grandma, and sometimes I think it’s easier for us to just get rid and let go and not have to deal with clutter and mess and things like that. I have that gene just as my mom does. I’m being very conscious and cognizant of keeping whatever I can physically keep so that when the time comes with my, hopefully, daughter in the future, I don’t skimp out on her.
My mom didn’t save much. She saved great dresses but I don’t know if you guys have noticed, I don’t really wear dresses like that. My favorite archive that she has is her first designer dress, which happens to be an Azzedine Alaïa that my dad got her when they first started seeing each other. It’s one of the most incredible pieces I’ve ever seen. But it would be so fun to be able to wear her vintage Levi’s and tops from when she was in high school. All of my friends wear their moms’ things. I’m gonna do that for my daughter. Thank you for nothing, mom!
SC: The casual pieces are much easier to wear than an Alaïa gown.
AGH: But I’m loving my Azzedine Alaia. I’m grateful for it. Not mine! But I will steal it.
SC: Looking towards the future, what are some of your goals? Would you ever follow in your mom’s footsteps and get into acting?
AGH: I don’t know. I think that I’ve got to check all the boxes in [modeling] before I even can comprehend checking boxes in another field. That being said, I feel like I’m just getting started and I’ve only just scratched the surface. I’m really excited for all that is to come and I’m now riding the wave, enjoying the process, seeing where it all takes me. I think it would be sick to act, but I… listen, Linda Evangelista has this major quote. She says, “I don’t want to be an actress because I can’t wear the same dress for more than a day.” And like, not no! You know? I feel like I’ve been dipping my toes in the whole acting thing with this modeling job that I have. And I’m like, damn, I really respect these actors. So we’ll see! I mean, it would be cool. I think. I think that I’m kind of good at it already. That’s sort of how I do my job now, it’s all acting. But yeah, we’ll see, won’t we?
SC: It’s acting when you’re personifying different styles for designers.
AGH: Exactly. I act every day.
SC: What advice would you share with the younger you just getting started in the industry?
AGH: I would say, Girl, chill out. Like, it’s gonna happen for you. Don’t stress, you don’t need it right now. Divine timing. You’re not ready right now. I think it was so hard for me to be patient. And I think that there’s a blessing and a curse in this life in regards to knowing what you want and dreaming at a very young age. I couldn’t understand that I wasn’t ready and that I was too young and that life brings everything when it’s supposed to happen. As woo-woo and cheesy as it may sound, like, yes, divine timing. Whatever is meant for me is never going to pass me. And I don’t have to fight and beg for something if it wasn’t even for me in the beginning.
Every year, on the first Monday in May, comes the most exclusive party of the year: The Met Gala. VogueEditor-In-Chief Anna Wintour hand-picks the creme-de-la-creme of the highest profile celebs — a coveted who’s who list of exciting new names and A-listers alike. Together, these celebs congregate at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art donning (literally) their Monday best.
On the surface, the Met Gala is a fundraising event hosted by Vogue to raise funds for the Met Museum’s Costume Institute. You have to be invited to attend (normally by a brand or by Anna herself), and what goes on inside the elusive Met Gala is one of fashion’s best-kept secrets. What happens at the Gala, truly stays at the Gala.
@metmuseum DYK: When garments enter The Met collection, they can no longer be worn on the human body. So how can we understand the movement and energy of these masterpieces of fashion? This May, explore 250 pieces from The Met’s Costume Institute collection in “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” opening to the public on May 10 and celebrated at the 2024 Met Gala on May 6. Join us to see them spring to life. 🌿 🌸 🌊 #ReawakeningFashion#TheMetGala♬ original sound – The Met
Today, the buzz around the 2024 Met Gala officially begins with the announcement of the theme: Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion. And, like with any Met Gala theme, this needs a bit of explanation.
What Does Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion Mean?
In collaboration with the Costume Institute, every Met Gala also comes with an exhibit at the Met that’s curated to emulate the year’s theme. This year, 250 rare items from the Costume Institute’s permanent collection will be featured — including designs from Schiaparelli, Dior, and Givenchy.
“Sleeping beauties” refers to the pieces that are so rare that they can only be worn once. Some of these “sleeping beauty” gowns, like an 1877 Charles Frederick Worth gown, will be shown via CGI and AI virtual showcasing.
It’s an all-encompassing theme spanning over 400 years of fashion. The exhibit itself will have three “zones” dedicated to land, sea, and sky, according to Andrew Bolton, Wendy Yu Curator in charge of the Costume Institute.
What Can We Expect People To Wear At The 2024 Met Gala?
While your mind may have gone straight to Disney’s Sleeping Beauty, the Met Gala is going to be leaning heavy into how fashion and nature coincide. These pieces on display have been sitting in the Met’s collection for eons, some can’t even be hung upright or they’ll disintegrate.
Since many of these clothing artifacts were made with natural materials (like a bodice made from peas in a pod), you will expect to see this mimicked in attendees’ attire. Sure, there will be 1800s-inspired gowns and lace appliques…but remember: nature is emphasized.
People are thinking of florals and birds, as the exhibit will feature both a black tulle dress embroidered with blackbirds and an Alexander McQueen jacket inspired by Alfred Hitchcocks’ The Birds. But everything nature has to offer — nothing’s off the table! We might see snakes and leaves and everything in between.
And while we don’t know the hosts, or the guests, quite yet…we’re looking forward to this theme and hope we can reawaken the excitement of the Met Gala after some lackluster showings in the past few years.
The Council of Fashion Designers of America hosted its annual awards show at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City on Monday, November 6.
The glitzy ceremony — presented by Amazon Fashion —was hosted by Anne Hathaway, who was praised by the organization for her contributions to film and fashion.
“The CFDA is thrilled that Anne, a native New Yorker and a performer with extensive experience in theater and film, has agreed to host the 2023 CFDA Fashion Awards presented by Amazon Fashion,” CFDA CEO Steven Kolb announced ahead of the big event. “We are looking forward to her bringing her infectious energy and charm to the CFDA stage.”
Sarah Jessica Parker was originally slated to emcee the soirée but was forced to pull
out “due to unforeseen circumstances,” the CFDA said in a statement via its website.

Cardi BandOffset’s kids have a fashion mind of their own.
Cardi, 31, and Offset, 31 — who tied the knot in 2017 — opened up about their children’s personal fashion senses while celebrating UGG’s new Uggextreme Collection at the brand’s Feel House’s HBX party last week.
“So what do you think about our babies’ style?” Cardi asked Offset in clip shared via UGG’s TikTok on Wednesday, October 25. “Because I feel like they all have different style.”
Offset first praised their daughter Kulture, 5, for her “very pretty and very princess” style. “She has a lot of dresses. She already has this attitude about herself where she already knows how to walk like a model and she takes it seriously.” He gushed, “She always wants to show me, ‘Daddy look what I put together, look at this scarf I put on …’ I feel like she can dress herself.”
Cardi then admitted that it’s “hard for me to dress boys,” while referring to their 2-year-old son, Wave, and Offset’s sons Kody and Jordan, from previous relationships. “I remember this one time I was gonna buy Wave a hat and Offset was like ‘No,’” she recalled while laughing. “Whatever. I am trying!”
The “WAP” rapper then touched on her step-daughter, Kalea, 8, who Offset shares with ex Shya L’amour. “I feel like Kalea, she’s girly too but she’s more like tomboy too,” Cardi said, explaining, “I think it’s because when the girls start reaching the age of 8 and 7, they start going more … punk rock, cool.”

Offset agreed, noting that Kody, who he shares with ex Oriel Jamie, “loves dressing like me.” He explained that the 8-year-old always asks what Offset is wearing or if they “got it in my size.”
“My son Jordan, he’s more calm, he’s more like an athlete so he likes to have basketball shorts on,” Offset said, speaking on his 13-year-old son whom he shares with ex Justine Watson.
“All the kids got different styles — literally,” Cardi quipped before the clip concluded.
Cardi B knows how to have fun with fashion. The rapper turns every red carpet into her own personal runway, blessing Us with designs that only she can wear. Cardi is known to push fashion boundaries in outfits that feature optical illusions, statuesque silhouettes and sometimes raw materials. Take the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards, […]
For the interview, Cardi stunned in the Ugg’s Classic Chillapeak boots, featuring a fuzz lining and platform heel. She teamed the shoe with a brown knit sweater vest, a collared white top, plaid pleated skirt and leather Chanel water bottle holder that she wore as a crossbody bag.

At the time, her hair scarlett hair was parted down the middle and worn straightened down to her thighs.
Offset, meanwhile, rocked a graphic hoodie, brown pants and the brand’s Short Hybrid boots finished with a neon orange sole.
When you see celebrities wear jewellery, it almost never feels accessible… that is, until Missoma entered the chat. And the best part? The brand is having a weekend-long flash sale ahead of gifting season, with 20% off sitewide. This is not a drill.
Yep, among the long list of early Black Friday jewellery deals Missoma is one of the top brands to browse. From Friday 27th October (i.e. TODAY) until Monday 30th, we’re all being given a chance to shop the label’s entire collection. No code needed, no exclusions apply.
Harris Reed In Good Hands Beaded Gemstone Bracelet
Lucy Williams Medium Chunky Ridge Hoop Earrings
Squiggle Curve Two Tone Enamel Stacking Ring
Why is Missoma so popular?
Every so often, A-listers and influencers will step away from wearing their usual multi-million-pound diamonds on the red carpet and instead don a jewellery brand that’s actually quite affordable, giving us an accessory story we can finally shop ourselves. They’ll get photographed in it constantly, the brand will go viral on Instagram and we’ll all be able to get a piece of the layered gold jewellery pie.
This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.
Hot Rox Multi Gemstone Large Hoop Earrings
Jennifer Lopez (now Affleck) sported Missoma’s Hot Rox hoops on the cover of a magazine back in 2007, and since then the brand has revived the collection due to huge popularity and demand. We’ll take several pairs, in that case.

Taylor Swift has been a style icon for years, but recently, she’s provided us with so much outfit inspiration, we’re never lacking when it comes to ideas for fun looks. Thanks to the superstar singer, our fall 2023 staples now consist of vintage sports gear, mesh tops, and a variety of pleated skirts. We’re even eyeing pendant accessories after seeing Swift rock a Foundrae bracelet at Travis Kelce’s Chiefs game over the weekend. The only issue? Her exact pick costs a whopping $995 — and that’s not including the chain.
There’s no doubt the Enamel Miniature Medallion is stunning and, at least in Swift’s case, comes with a special meaning. One half of this particular heart is red, which both represents the football team’s colors and references the name of one of Swift’s albums. According to Foundrae’s site, the medallion also celebrates “seven classic types of love” — including romantic, friendship, and self-love among others — and Swift has even been spotted wearing an alternative, all-gold version on a recent date night.
It’s clear the singer is a fan of this heart design, but if the price tag is holding you back from purchasing one for yourself, not to worry. Anthropologie sells a similar version of the pendant for $48. Sure, it’s technically gold-plated brass and those “diamonds” are actually cubic zirconia, but it’s surely something that would get Swift’s stamp of approval.
The best part is, this necklace (which, yes, does include a chain) doesn’t have to be some piece of costume jewelry you add to your collection. Since it’s monogrammed, it’s able to be personalized and would make a great gift this holiday season — for Swifties and non-Swifties alike.
The 29-year-old rapper and singer (real name Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio) gave fans a look at his buzz cut during a promotional video for Saturday Night Live on Thursday, October 19. In the clip, his hair was buzzed to his scalp — much different from his previous tight curls — and he teamed his new hairstyle with a manicured goatee. The “Titi Me Pregunto” artist topped the look off with a sheer, long sleeve T-shirt, rectangular eyeglasses, one diamond stud earring, one hoop earring and a gold necklace.
Earlier this month, Bad Bunny teased his haircut in his music video “Monaco.” At the end of the YouTube clip he rocked a shaved head, but later left fans confused when he was seen with curly hair underneath a baseball cap. Social media users then speculated that the hair was a wig, and he was waiting to reveal his shaved head in public.
In addition to showing off his new hair, Bad Bunny also referenced his romance with Kendall Jenner in the SNL promo After introducing himself as the host and musical guest for the Saturday, October 21, show, he and cast member Heidi Gardner participated in a quick skit.
Bad Bunny knows how to make a statement with music and clothes. Since emerging on the scene, the rapper — who sparked a romance with Kendall Jenner in February 2023 — has garnered a reputation for turning heads on the red carpet. When it comes to his wardrobe, Bad Bunny — whose real name is […]
“I’ve been meaning to ask you,” Gardener said, before getting distracted and swatting at an imaginary fly in the studio. “Oh my God, what is that?”
Bad Bunny then attempted to kill the fly, telling the actress, “Be careful Heidi, those mosquitos.”
Garner, who looked very impressed, concluded the skit by smiling at the rapper.
NBC/Tiktok
“Be careful 😉,” the SNL account captioned the video. Fans were quick to relate the skit to a similar moment he shared with Jenner, 27.
“He forgot the ‘mamiii,’” one fan quipped as another wrote, “Someone give the writers a raise.”
In August, Bad Bunny shared an Instagram Story video of himself attempting to reach out to a wild chipmunk. It also appeared as if he was with Jenner, who was heard — but not seen — in the clip.
Bad Bunny may be making headlines for his whirlwind romance with Kendall Jenner, but it isn’t his first time dating in the public eye. While the rapper likes to keep his love life under wraps, he was in a long-term relationship with Gabriela Berlingeri when his star began to rise. “I met her at some […]
“Mami, be careful,” he said as the two tried to approach the chipmunk. Jenner’s voice in the background then asked if the animal could be carrying rabies. He replied, “[No], the mosquitoes.” Though the pair have never commented on their romance, Bad Bunny and Jenner were first linked in February, when they met through mutual friends. They’ve since been seen kissing in public, enjoying concerts and basketball games together and more.
“Things are going really well for Kendall and Bad Bunny and she definitely sees long-term potential with him,” a source exclusively told Us Weekly in May. “She feels like he’s the complete package and he treats her like a total gentleman.
For her next act, Christina Aguilera is embarking on her own Las Vegas residency, and she’s given her look a total refresh for the occasion. The “Beautiful” singer is no stranger to reinvention, after all.
For her Jimmy Kimmel Live appearance on October 16, Aguilera was on trend from head to toe, starting with a chic new bob haircut and ending with thigh-high leather boots. The superstar’s fashion-forward look also included a black bodysuit layered under a cropped black zip-up hoodie layered under an oversized black leather bomber jacket. The ’fit’s pièce de résistance, however, was her bright red miniskirt printed with the image of an open mouth. I count at least four or five of this season’s hottest trends in this outfit.
RB/Bauer-Griffin
During her Kimmel interview, Aguilera was, of course, asked about another pop superstar who has done many a Las Vegas residency: Britney Jean Spears. Aguilera and Spears both began their careers in the Mickey Mouse Club in the early ’90s, so Kimmel wanted to know if Aguilera had any thoughts on Spears’s just-released memoir, The Woman in Me.
“Do you think you will be in it?” Kimmel asked. Christina Aguilera responded, “Dude, I don’t know…I’m hoping that you know, everything is all good with her and everything’s beautiful. I think the future should be celebrated.”

The summer-fall season is a hard one to dress for. You have to keep your eye on the weather app at all times. If you dress for the morning chill, you’ll be sweltering by noon. If you go out in summer attire, you might find yourself shivering through the day, wishing for a fall layer. There’s no winning.
From a style perspective, this makes it hard to plan outfits. If you, like me, are a summer lover, you’re mourning the days of airy shorts and teeny tanks and the nights of going out tops and no jackets. If you’re fiending for fall fashion, you’re aching to pair everything with an oversized blazer, to break out your layers, and live in your long pants again.
The key to surviving this in-between season is mastering transitional dressing.
TikTok’s favorite stylist, Allison Bornstein, is an advocate for shopping your own closet. With some chic rules of thumb, you can dress for the weather without sacrificing style.
Her rules for transitional weather dressing?
1. wear your favorite summer formula (like a mini and a tee)
2. add a fall shoe
3. add some fall textures like a knit or suede or leather (or all 3!)
With this formula, you can create an endless rotation of fits. To add even more interest, I’m an advocate for buying one key piece each season so all your basic formulas feel current and relevant without you having to buy into every microtrend.
For inspiration, I’ve been watching fashion week streams and glued to my feeds to see what my favorite celebs have been wearing to brave the midday heat and evening chill. From all this research, I’ve identified some of the hottest transitional trends to look out for, and how to style them according to your favorite celebs.

Sofia Richie: Brown Denim and Double Denim
The queen of chic, Sofia Richie’sclassic style isn’t made by following trends, it’s by setting them. So if Sofia says something is in, it’s in. This TikTok outfit has done numbers — so don’t be surprised if you see me and other loyal Sofia fans replicating this look. It’s a combination of two trends: chocolate-toned brown denim and Canadian tuxedos.
Channing Tatum: Double-kneed Jorts
Eras tour outfits were all the rage this summer — from cowboy hats to glitter and rhinestones galore — but this unexpected Swiftie, Channing Tatum, is ringing in a trend I’ll be watching for fall. Double-kneed workwear pants are a staple of the vintage-loving Dimes Square/Silverlake set. But cutting them off into shorts is genius — and perfect for the changing weather.
Jeremy Allen White: Mesh
Say it with me now: yes, Chef! Jeremy Allen White has been spotted in a slew of easy, breezy summer looks this year — from white tanks to short shorts. For fall, he’s embracing mesh button-downs and you should, too. Chef’s orders.
The Biebers: Leather Jackets
The Biebers either dress like they’re going to separate events or like they’re twins being forced to match by their parents. And you know what, I’m here for both. We’ve seen biker jackets, varsity jackets, and more pass through the trendscape. But now the Biebers are proving that a classic leather moto is back for fall. Style it like Hailey or Justin for completely different takes on the same staple.
Charles Melton: Distressed pants
Preppy chic has been on the rise for a while. It’s only become even more popular with the advent of Old Money style. Charles Melton shed his Riverdale teen dream roots with this very sophisticated Ralph Lauren look. The polish of the blazer is offset by the distressed workwear pants, that give the look an edge and some of that fall texture.

Many of the stories I write are created with you, the reader, in mind. But today, I’m going to be a little selfish because I’ll be attending several weddings this summer, and the search for the perfect wedding guest dress has been the bane of my existence. Matching the venue and vibe while feeling comfortable and confident in what I wear has been a tricky task. But I’m so pleased to report the search has concluded with Net-a-Porter’s latest party edit. Whether the goal is to go bold at a tropical destination or stick to neutrals for a black-tie ceremony, the following pieces fit a wide range of themes. I know I’m not alone in this shopping journey (if you made it this far, clearly you’re with me), so keep scrolling to shop the dresses and accessories that will name us the best-dressed wedding guests.
We’ve spoken ad nauseum about the return of Y2K/90s fashion — with Gen Z spearheading this revival, the precise decades are blurred. But those eras weren’t all teeny tops and low-rise jeans. They’re also known for the formation of grunge, pop-punk, and absolutely filthy dirtbag style.
Before there were e-boys, there were emos. Before there was the Weird Girl Aesthetic, there were the riot grrrls and grunge girlies. And amidst all the saccharine and sparkly trends coming back from the turn of the century, there’s also an alt-aesthetic revival happening all across pop culture: from music to fashion to celebrity trends.
And, of course, leading the charge, Lady Gaga is the absolute zeitgeist. Her Oscars performance of her nominated song “Hold My Hand” from Topgun Maverick on March 12th proved that dirtbag style is back and alternative aesthetics are about to be the next big thing. Again.
Lady Gaga – Hold My Hand (Live From The Oscars/2023)www.youtube.com
Where do the 90s grunge and 2000s pop-punk aesthetics come from?
The 90s was a crazy decade. It was an era of rapid change — even compared to today’s standards. One minute everything was analog, the next everyone had a pager, then a phone. Not to mention the internet’s emergence on the scene. It was a brave new world. One filled with JNCO jeans and frosted tips.
Pop culture was at its peak. MTV was king and music was religion. So it makes sense that musical tastes dictated many societal aesthetics. Now, we all listen to everything. Spotify playlists defy genre and predilections are predicated by TikTok cores rather than community building.
But back in the day, you went to a record store and perused a certain section as a music and cultural signifier. So when genres like grunge came onto the scene, they also were aestheticized. People gleefully adopted the ripped jeans, flannels, and dirtbag style sported by rock heroes like Kurt Cobain.
Then, in the early 2000s, when grunge gave way to emo music and pop punk, it was all side bangs and ripped black skinny jeans. Vans had such a chokehold on the culture they sponsored Warped Tour — a mecca for alternative adolescents.
So, when the Oscars 2023 stage lights came up on to reveal Lady Gaga perched on a stool wearing all black — t-shirt, ripped jeans, and converse, we thought: wait. We’ve seen this look before. On everyone at Warped Tour.
Why is this aesthetic back?
Every ten years, everything comes back in style. Each new generation gets their hands on artifacts from the past, from music to fashion to movies, and revives them. Grunge came back in 2013, a year filled with flannel shirt dresses and spiky sneaker heels — shudder — and now it’s peeking its head back into the mainstream.
TikTik tutorials are flooded with teenagers introducing each other to vintage trends of the 90s while millennials watch in horror. I mean, there’s a 90s American Girl Doll. That should speak for itself.
And it’s not only the clothes that are back. It’s the music.
When they made the latest Batman film with Rob Pattinson, the film’s theme song wasn’t some original new pop song. It was “Something in the Way” by Nirvana. A whole new generation of kids discovered this iconic band through that trailer, that film, and the aesthetic of emo Batman — for better or for worse.
Plus, many of the 2000s-era bands that defined the alternative scene are making a comeback. Paramore has recently released music. So do Fall Out Boy, The Arctic Monkeys, and more. And don’t get me started on the prominence of pop-alt aesthetics — Pete Davidson, MGK, and Travis Barker’s heartthrob status says enough.
People are gravitating toward edgier, darker material. Maybe it’s because everything else is so saturated with cotton candy content — pretty, but lacking substance.
And if Gaga, who is always at the forefront of trends, is telling us to return to our alt basics, who are we to deny her?
How to dress like an absolute dirtbag
I, for one, am all for the return of dirtbag style. Materialism is at an all-time high with the over-aestheticizing of everything on TikTok, the reign of the fashion industry, and even the goddamn Ozempic discourse. Sometimes, I don’t want to be perceived. This adolescent angst, of course, has led me to gravitate back to adolescent aesthetics.
I recently bought a pair of Vans for the first time since high school. Converse, too. Just stepping back into my old staple kicks took me back to a simpler time — when the whole world felt like it mattered, but nothing actually did.
So, perhaps, part of this revival is nostalgia-based. We’re 3 years post-Covid and still itching for comforts that remind us of the past. Maybe leaning into dirtbag style reminds us that the superficial stuff we used to cope during the pandemic isn’t all there is. Or maybe it’s a cry for help from our collective trauma trying to reveal itself, finally. Who knows.
Either way, I’m reveling in feeling like a dirtbag these days. Here’s a definite dirtbag starter pack that Gaga would approve:

It’s Friday afternoon in Los Angeles, during the brief lull between the Golden Globes and the Critics Choice Awards, and Jenny Slate is detailing her red carpet preparations. “Right now, I’m eating an everything bagel in my car. Super glamorous!” the actor says by phone, as an electronic trill announces that she’s shifted into park.
A facial with Natura Bissé notwithstanding (“A gigantic luxury—I’m very happy about that”), this is not the moment for the laid-back pampering one might expect for a woman tied to two celebrated movies. Marcel the Shell With Shoes On, a Critics Choice nominee for best animated film, is the product of her decade-long collaboration with co-creator Dean Fleischer Camp, with Slate voicing the winsome one-inch-tall protagonist. She also turns up in awards-season darling Everything Everywhere All at Once, playing an athleisure-clad regular at the laundromat. Maybe, in an alternate reality, Slate is sipping kombucha after yoga and a lymphatic massage. “But right now, I am the mother of a two-year-old who has jet lag,” she says, recalling daughter Ida’s 4 a.m. request for yogurt following the Globes. “It feels like I’m just folding the awards into my life,” she says. A master of her multiverse: “It definitely does all fit.”
Skin prep comes first for makeup artist Kirin Bhatty, who used Violette’s Boum-Boum Milk with a gua sha tool before applying metallic rust tones on the eyes (Yeux Paint in Rose d’Aurore and Marron Glacé). Bisou Balm in Bêtise simulated a “just bitten” lip, Bhatty says.

Hairstylist Nikki Providence relied on IGK’s Good Behavior balm and smoothing spray to finesse the side-swept waves. “Since it was a torrential downpour off and on all weekend, they were life savers,” says Providence.

Slate has a soft spot for the Critics Choice Awards. In 2015, she took home the event’s prize for best actress in a comedy, for her role in the oops-pregnancy movie Obvious Child; five years later, her debut comedy special, Stage Fright, earned a nomination as well. “It’s the actual critics who have watched everything, who write in depth about all of these projects, and it is immensely important to be honored by them,” says Slate, who earmarked a dress by Olivier Theyskens for this weekend’s ceremony. It’s one of the designer’s couture-level exercises in sustainability, composed entirely of fabric swatches—in this case, gold and metallic olive and snippets of magenta—that he has accumulated over the years. “I love a turtleneck, always have, and while it’s very tight on the body, it also still somehow shows restraint,” she says. “To me, it feels like maybe my most powerful look yet.”

The team getting Slate ready on Sunday evening serve as longtime confidants: makeup artist Kirin Bhatty and hairstylist Nikki Providence above the neck, stylist Monty Jackson below. “He’s seen me very naked one million times,” Slate says with a laugh. “He really works not just with my figure and what I think is stylish, but also with my emotions.” It’s a cherished quality, given that the stakes of the occasion are higher than another fancy night out. “When you’re [dressing for] your own birthday party, you don’t really think about whether the entire internet is going to tell you that you looked either very good or very bad or somewhere in between.”
