How Long Does CBD Stay in Your System?

    [ad_1]

    Marten Newhall via Unsplash

Hailed for its numerous health benefits, cannabidiol, commonly known as CBD, has become the go-to cannabinoid for people seeking relief without the “high.” And yet, many questions still surround the use of CBD, particularly regarding how long it stays in the body. Naturally, the latter is of particular interest to current and future users. This is partly because of CBD’s close ties to THC. For years, THC has been under scrutiny because of its psychoactive properties. This may, by extension, cause CBD consumers to worry about the cannabinoid’s presence in their bodies and whether it’ll show up in drug tests.

So, just how long does CBD stay in your system?

In short, CBD can stay in a person’s system for a few hours up to about a month. But the truth is a little more complex. Let’s take a look.

    What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a non-psychoactive compound found in cannabis. It’s non-intoxicating, meaning it doesn’t induce the traditional “high” associated with its controversial counterpart, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). This distinction is crucial because it influences legal status and acceptance. Most legal frameworks distinguish the two based on THC content, with hemp containing 0.3% or less THC content. Nowadays, CBD is marketed for its positive neurological effects. You’ll find it in various products, from gummies and oils to vapes and gel capsules. Despite this, a lot more research needs to take place before CBD can be declared a legitimate treatment option.

Factors Affecting CBD Duration in the Body

The length of time CBD remains in your system depends on several factors. Understanding these factors will help you manage how you use CBD and how long you can expect to feel its effects.

    How Much You Use

Like many other medications and supplements, higher doses of CBD will cause it to remain in your body for longer.

    Your Body

No two bodies are the same. Your metabolism, water content, and body mass index (BMI) are some of the distinct physical characteristics that will influence how long CBD remains in your body. Understanding these can help you manage your usage and anticipate how long its effects may last.

    Food Intake

The types of food you consume, your portion sizes, and your eating times all impact how CBD affects you. Recent research suggests that eating a high-fat meal before you consume CBD increases its availability in your blood and, therefore, its absorption rate. In contrast, consuming CBD while fasting or on an empty stomach will likely result in it leaving your body faster.

    How Often You Use It

Usage frequency also affects how long CBD stays in your system. This is because CBD builds up in your system over time with regular use. If you only use it occasionally, it’ll clear from your system much quicker.

The Type of CBD Product You Use

There are several ways to consume CBD. Each method affects the onset time, duration of effects, and how long it will stay in your system. Some popular ways of consuming CBD include:

    • CBD oils/tinctures
    • CBD gummies
    • CBD softgels
    • CBD creams

We will discuss each of these methods in greater detail later on.

How Long Does CBD Stay in Your System?

CBD can stay in a person’s system for a few hours up to about a month. The detection period depends on several factors such as dosage, body fat, food intake, usage frequency, and the type of CBD consumed.

CBD’s half-life (the time it takes for your body to reduce a substance by half) in the body ranges from approximately 1 hour to 5 days.

Let’s examine how long CBD will remain in certain parts of your body.

How Long Does CBD Stay in Your Blood?

Blood tests aren’t necessarily a standard form of CBD drug testing. Nevertheless, they appear to detect CBD better than most other methods.

A 2022 research article sourcing data from three clinical trials investigated the length of time a single oral dose of CBD persists in plasma.

The researchers discovered that CBD, much like THC, has a long detection window in plasma. Specifically, they noted that doses of 100, 300, and 600 mg remain in plasma for an average of ~5, 13, and 25 days, respectively.

How Long Does CBD Stay in Your Urine?

Nowadays, urine tests are used far more than blood tests during drug screening. Typically, a urine test screening for cannabinoids will target THC, the psychoactive compound, not CBD. Because of this, there is little evidence indicating how long CBD stays in urine.

There is a lot more information regarding the presence of THC in urine. THC metabolites are usually detectable in urine for approximately 3 to 15 days after use. However, this can increase to more than 30 days with heavier, more frequent use.

How Long Does CBD Stay in Your Hair?

Hair tests are rarely, if ever, used to detect CBD. Because of this, very little data points to how much CBD stays in your hair and the length of time it remains there. Hair strand tests do, however, detect THC metabolites, which are detectable in hair for up to 90 days. There are questions surrounding the reliability of this drug test to detect cannabis dosage and mild use accurately.

How Long Does CBD Stay in Your Saliva?

To date, saliva tests are rarely used to screen for drugs and generally don’t test for CBD.

However, a 2017 study looking at oral fluid CBD concentrations in occasional and frequent users after smoking cannabis noted that CBD had a 2.5 to 4-hour detection window.

Does CBD Show Up On A Drug Test?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a non-intoxicating substance. It will not show up on standard drug tests unless the test is explicitly screening for CBD.

However, many CBD products like CBD oil contain tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), marijuana’s psychoactive ingredient. High enough THC levels will, unfortunately, result in failed drug tests.

It’s also worth noting that a lack of regulation often results in CBD products possessing anything from trace amounts of THC to levels exceeding the 0.3% FDA threshold.

You can avoid failing a drug test by familiarizing yourself with the CBD products available and purchasing the most appropriate for your situation.

Here are the three major categories CBD products fall under:

    Full-Spectrum CBD

Full-spectrum CBD extracts retain all the natural compounds found in the hemp plant during extraction. This includes many naturally occurring compounds like flavonoids, terpenes, minor cannabinoids, THC, and CBD. The benefit of full-spectrum CBD is the often touted “entourage effect.”

Technically, hemp-derived CBD products should contain no more than 0.3% THC. This may not sound like much, but in some people, it may be enough for them to test positive.

Thankfully, high-quality vendors like Colorado Botanicals follow strict manufacturing processes to ensure their hemp plants meet the 0.3% threshold.

But the same can’t be said for all manufacturers. A rapidly growing industry and a lack of regulation throughout the industry have opened the door to CBD products with high THC levels that result in positive drug tests and psychoactive effects in some individuals.

    Broad-Spectrum CBD

Much like full-spectrum CBD products, broad-spectrum CBD products contain CBD alongside other cannabinoids found in the hemp plant. The major difference is that THC is removed during extraction and processing.

This makes it highly unlikely for anyone using broad-spectrum CBD to fail a drug test or experience a psychoactive “high.”

    CBD Isolate

CBD isolate is a highly processed, pure CBD product containing no other cannabinoids. Think of it as the complete opposite of full-spectrum CBD.

Individuals looking for an unadulterated form of CBD with zero chance of THC exposure or drug test failure are most likely to use CBD isolate products.

How Long Do the Effects of Last?

As a general guideline, you can expect to experience the effects of CBD for approximately two to six hours. To establish a more accurate estimate of the duration of CBD’s effects, you’ll need to consider factors such as dosage, body composition, food intake, and the method of consumption.

The increase in CBD vendors and products has caused users to become particularly interested in the conversation surrounding methods of consumption. Moreover, it has brought the concept of bioavailability to the fore.

In this context, bioavailability refers to the extent and rate at which CBD becomes entirely available to the body.

    CBD Oil

The best CBD oils, like those CBD oils offered by Colorado Botanicals, have become a go-to option for consumers looking to buy CBD.

CBD oil can be consumed orally (via the mouth) or sublingually (under the tongue). Administering CBD oil sublingually is thought to help it bypass the entire digestive process and enter the bloodstream faster. CBD oils and tinctures consumed orally or sublingually generally take 15 to 45 minutes to kick in, with the effects lasting 2 to 6 hours.

    CBD Gummies

Gummies, much like CBD oil, have exploded in popularity over the past several years. An increasing number of customers are turning to vendors providing top-quality CBD gummies to treat various medical issues, from CBD sleep disorders and CBD for anxiety to CBD for pain and inflammation.

Unlike CBD oil, gummies can only be taken orally, so they need to pass through the digestive tract before entering the bloodstream. This gives them an onset time of 30 minutes to 2 hours, with effects lasting 2 to 6 hours.

    CBD Softgels

A CBD softgel is a tasteless, digestion-friendly CBD product that is an alternative for people looking to avoid CBD oil and edibles.

The active ingredients are encased in a gelatin or vegan-friendly capsule taken orally. The CBD capsules then pass through the digestive system before breaking down quickly and entering the bloodstream.

Onset time takes 30 minutes to 2 hours, with effects lasting anywhere from 2 to 6 hours.

    CBD Creams

CBD oil is available in topical and oral forms. The former includes cannabis products applied to the skin, such as creams, lotions, or ointments.

Recent research evaluating CBD’s skin permeability suggests it is “moderately permeable” through the skin. Topicals manage this by entering endocannabinoid receptors through the skin instead of the bloodstream. This may be useful for treating localized muscular pains and skin conditions.

Topical CBD products kick in 20 to 60 minutes after application and last up to 6 hours.

Ways to Get Rid of CBD From Your Body Faster

To date, no clinical evidence suggests that methods for speeding up the body’s elimination of CBD exist.

We understand there is plenty of misinformation online that says otherwise. You may come across websites that prey on people’s worries and concerns, promising to help them rid their bodies of CBD so they can avoid a possible positive drug test result.

They may suggest that it’s possible to break down CBD quicker through:

    • Hydration
    • Exercise
    • Diet
    • Sweat
    • Supplements

The simple truth is this—your body processes CBD at its own rate. So please exercise caution when engaging with websites and scams promoting products or methods that “rid the body” of CBD or THC quickly.

If you’re really concerned about how long CBD will stay in your system, remember:

    • Most drug tests detect THC, not CBD, so you don’t need to concern yourself with being tested by your work and receiving a positive drug test result.
    • CBD is a generally safe compound. While trace amounts of CBD stay in your system for a while, chances are it won’t harm you

Is There A Difference Between How Long CBD Stays in Your System for Occasional Users vs. Daily Users?

CBD can stay in your system for several hours to about a month. Consuming CBD more frequently can directly affect how long the substance will stay in your system. We can see this by looking at the data related to CBD’s half-life.

A drug’s half-life is the time it takes for your body to reduce the substance by one-half—CBD’s ranges from approximately 1 hour to up to 5 days.

CBD sprays and drops typically have a half-life of 1.4 to 10.9 hours, whereas continued oral consumption can increase this to 2 to 5 days.

This indicates that CBD stays in your system for longer with prolonged use.

Can CBD Interact with Other Medications and Affect How Long It Stays in Your Body?

For the most part, CBD is a well-tolerated substance that is considered generally safe. Though, like most substances, it does come with some adverse effects, such as fatigue, drowsiness, reduced appetite, and diarrhea.

There are, however, reports indicating interactions between CBD and a host of medications, including, but not limited to:

    • Anti-epileptic drugs
    • Antidepressants
    • Opioid analgesics
    • Acetaminophen

    How CBD Interacts with Medications

The issue arises with how the body metabolizes certain substances.

When you consume a medication or substance, your body has to break it down. Drug metabolism occurs in various areas of your body, from your gut to your liver.

A group of enzymes called CYP450 converts substances (including CBD) so your body can get rid of them without hassle.

Some substances or medications negatively affect this process by speeding up or slowing down drug metabolism. CBD is one such substance.

CYP450, specifically CYP3A4, is responsible for metabolizing CBD. However, CBD interferes with CYP3A4 during this process.

Unfortunately, CYP3A4 is also responsible for breaking down approximately 60% of prescribed medications. As a result, CBD impairs CYP3A4’s ability to break down medications in your system.

It’s important to note that the reverse situation can occur, too—some medications inhibit CYP3A4 from breaking down CBD, affecting its efficacy and lifespan.

    Grapefruit Warning

More than 85 drugs interact with grapefruit, some of which include:

    • Antibiotics and antimicrobials
    • Anticancer medications
    • Antihistamines
    • Antiepileptic drugs (AEDs)
    • Blood pressure medications
    • Blood thinners
    • Cholesterol medications
    • Corticosteroids
    • Erectile dysfunction medications
    • GI medications, such as to treat GERD or nausea
    • Heart rhythm medications
    • Immunosuppressants
    • Mood medications
    • Pain medications
    • Prostate medications

    Talk to Your Healthcare Professional

When in doubt, talk to your doctor. Yes, CBD has been shown to interact with numerous medications, but your doctor may be able to create a medical plan that accommodates your medication while periodically monitoring the results.

This would allow you to receive the therapy you need while looking out for any harmful side effects.

    Conclusion

Whether you’re a current or potential user, it’s crucial to understand how CBD interacts with your body and how long it remains detectable.

Yes, mounting evidence suggests that CBD provides potential health benefits. But while it can serve as a great addition to your wellness routine, we’d be remiss if we didn’t encourage you to consult with a healthcare professional before committing to long-term use.

This is particularly important if you use other medications or have a medical condition.

In the end, approaching CBD with informed caution will help you maximize its therapeutic potential while minimizing risk.

Key Things To Know About Hemp And Marijuana Drinks

    [ad_1]

Hemp and marijuana beverages represent about $4 billion in sales and are only going to get bigger.  Tasty, intoxicating, and available in most states, here are some key things to know about hemp and marijuana drinks. You might enjoy either or both, but where, how and what happens varies between the two.

    RELATED: Are CBD Drinks Legal?

Hemp or CBD drinks are created by infusing hemp extract, derived from the cannabis plant, into a liquid base. The most popular hemp-infused drinks include water, juice, tea, and coffee. One of the big differences between marijuana and hemp drinks is the “high”. With  Delta-9 hemp, consumers tend to have a more intense experience and comes on faster than THC.  It is a euphoric high when altered sensory perception and a sense of relaxation.

THC or marijuana drinks require digestion (like an edible) for the THC to hit the bloodstream. It takes between 15-20 minutes to kick in, with the effects peaking after approximately 45 minutes. The high from marijuana beverage can be unpredictable, and potentially more intense.

Another big difference is 47 of the 50 U.S. states and DC have legalized the sale and use of hemp-derived CBD products. Bayou City in Texas is a huge brand which sales in mainstream retailers.  Cannabis drinks, a growing market but still way behind gummies, can only be purchased in the 24 legal recreational states.

RELATED: Do CBD Gummies Actually Work?

Additional scientists determined liners inside aluminum cans cause the drinks to lose their potency. These liners are used for different reasons, among them extending the product’s shelf life, preventing the corrosion of the can and, most importantly, protecting the flavor of the drinks themselves. Without these liners, the natural metallic taste of aluminum would seep into the drinks.

“Our theory is the cannabis material, the droplets, will stick to the liner and cling on it. When you open the can to take a drink, it will lose its potency,” said Vertosa founder, Harold Han.

Lubbock voters reject proposal to decriminalize marijuana possession – Medical Marijuana Program Connection

    [ad_1]

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Nearly two-thirds of Lubbock voters rejected Proposition A, which would decriminalize low-level marijuana offenses.

The Lubbock city council unanimously voted against the initial proposal in November, after the group Freedom Act Lubbock gathered enough verified citizen signatures.

Council members stated they believe the proposal would contradict state law, making it unenforceable. Earlier this year, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sued the cities of Austin, Denton, Elgin, Killeen and San Marcos for passing similar ordinances. After the council vote, supporters then requested the measure be sent to voters.

“The main goal is to keep people out of jail for this if that’s the only thing they’re doing,” Adam Hernandez with Freedom Act Lubbock told KCBD in April.

Hernandez said if they’re involved in criminal activity all bets are off. The ordinance would not limit enforcement if an offense is revealed as part of a “high priority” felony narcotics investigation or part of the investigation of a violent felony.

Terisa Clark with Project Destiny called Proposition A a threat to the Lubbock community.

“The majority of the time, it started somewhere for people with hardcore addictions. Where did it start? It started typically with marijuana,” Clark told KCBD in April.

In addition to decriminalizing low-level marijuana offenses, the ordinance would prevent LPD from considering the odor as probable cause for a search or seizure. While Freedom…

  • Off To The Horse Races With Cannabis

Off To The Horse Races With Cannabis

    [ad_1]

House racing is highly popular sports with over 45,000 races run in the US and Canada last year.  The Kentucky Derby is the pinnacle of horse racing in North America, but most major metro hubs have some type of opportunity. Globally it is a $400 billion industry with tens of millions of people watching. But are they off to the horse races with cannabis?

RELATED: How To Be Discreet When Using Weed

The biggest horse racing party is the Kentucky Derby and the Infield (the area inside the track) is a huge one with beer trucks, Mardi Gras bead shenanigans, and maybe a little whiff of weed.  While Churchill Downs, where the race is run, bans all smoking, vapes, gummies and more make the way in. The same is true across the realm.  But what about those in the race?

Horse racing is an intense activity for the animal, and increasingly, horse owners are adapting human products (either medical marijuana or hemp) for their athletes.  Recovery, hydration, inflammation and pain management are all benefits for the horse if done with the correct dosage.  Additionally, it is seen as a potential for calming a horse.

Like the human mass market, CBD is leading the way. But the efficacy and safety of some products is questionable, due to very little research and supervision. Until the passage of the 2018 Farm Act, it was illegal to possess or conduct research on hemp as well as marijuana. Like the NFL, owners should be aware CBD and THC cannot be used in when competing, and if CBD shows up on a drug test that horse may be disqualified.

RELATED: The Most Popular Marijuana Flavors

With rescheduling, there should be more research done regarding CBD and THC’s benefits to animals, especially pets and horses. Before administering CBD to horses, horse owners should first consult with a veterinarian.

Additionally, jockeys are banned from using cannabis while racing. This falls inline with the current global sports guidelines.  CBD has been used in helping with recovery, but it can not be used prior to the race, especially if you are looking at winning.

The reclassification will help the state’s therapeutic cannabis scene – particularly when it comes to accessing federal tax breaks

The Biden administration plans to remove marijuana from a list of the most dangerous and highly regulated drugs, the Department of Justice said Tuesday.

The Drug Enforcement Administration will propose moving the drug from a Schedule I substance, which also includes heroin and methamphetamine, to Schedule III, which is the category for regulated-but-legal drugs including testosterone and Tylenol with codeine.

“Today, the Attorney General circulated a proposal to reclassify marijuana from Schedule I to Schedule III,” DOJ spokesperson Xochitl Hinojosa said in a statement to States Newsroom. “Once published by the Federal Register, it will initiate a formal rulemaking process as prescribed by Congress in the Controlled Substances Act.”

The reclassification would not have transformative effects in New Hampshire, experts say. Recreational cannabis is still illegal in the Granite State, though since 2017, people have been allowed to possess up to three-quarters of an ounce at a time without the threat of jail time.

But the reclassification will help the state’s therapeutic cannabis scene – particularly when it comes to accessing federal tax breaks.

“If you view cannabis reform as an irresistible force and the DEA is the immovable object, this is the first movement ever,” said Matt Simon, director of public…

War, relationships, political news, work at home or office, all adding to the stress of life.  For some, they can manage it and move forward, for others, it can be a pit of sadness…but most it seems experience anxiety and depression at some point. What Is CBD?

Cannabidiol(CBD) can be extracted from cannabis plants, marijuana leaves, and hemp flowers. CBD products act as a natural remedy.  By consuming or using this product you will not get high or have any psychotic reaction. Numerous studies have been carried out on different products of CBD and a quality check has also been approved by the FDA.

Reports say that CBD has less than 0.3 % THC, which is very safe than a lot of other drugs and pills that are taken for mental health.

RELATED: How To Find High-Quality CBD Oil

CBD products are now legally consumed and distributed in many states and countries. The list includes countries like German, Canada, Denmark, Sweden, The USA & The UK.

Just like different brands of marijuana, there are also various brands of CBD oils available.

In the USA you can only use CBD products for medical purposes. It has to be prescribed by a licensed doctor for you to buy and consume it.

If your state has legalized the sale and consumption of cannabis products then it will be easier to find CBD oils in some particular cannabis clinics, shops, and online stores like CBD Oil Uk.

The Difference Between Stress And Anxiety

Stress is a short-term ailment that can happen regularly or once in a while and does not cause any serious damages. Besides, it can be managed easily.

If you face problems like frustration, exhaustion, muscle pain, digestive issues, and difficulty sleeping frequently then it is likely you are dealing with stress.

Anxiety is more severe than stress. It can not be alleviated easily. Instead, it is considered as non-stop excessive worry and fear even when everything is perfectly fine in your life.

Anxiety leads to a set of symptoms that are almost identical to stress but very serious. These include insomnia, difficulty in concentration, fatigue, and muscle tension.

It is important to differentiate the signs of stress and anxiety. Stress is a common cause of anxiety and to avoid anxiety symptoms, it is important to catch them early.

    How CBD Products Can Help

Here are 4 ways CBD products can help reduce anxiety and depression-

    1.CBD Improves Your Sleep Cycle

People suffering from anxiety often complain about the lack of sleep.

Excessive anxiety often interrupts your sleep cycle and lack of sleep can, in turn, result in more anxiety.

CBD has claimed to reduce anxiety levels. It has even shown positive results in clinical trials that is why the FDA has approved CBD in the first place.

RELATED: 5 Ways To Incorporate Effective CBD Products Into Your Everyday Life

CBD helps calm our minds and increases the chances of falling asleep naturally and without any disruption.

Also, studies have proven that little extra dosage of CBD creates a sedative effect on your body and helps to sleep and lets your brain rest. CBD products are now used to treat people with insomnia as well.

    2.CBD Reduces Pain & Inflammation

Earlier we have discussed that stress and anxiety can cause muscle pain, headaches, and chronic inflammation.

CBD products are completely natural. The products have been proven to be a muscle relaxant and work better than any standard painkillers since it has no side effects.

CBD also works as anti-inflammatory drugs. It controls cytokine production which is generally responsible for various inflammatory diseases in our body.

This increased inflammation is also connected to higher levels of anxiety. Just like sleep and anxiety, this one is also a chain reaction.

Inflammatory diseases like psoriasis and arthritis can cause depression and anxiety in the long run. CBD oil helps to reduce inflammation and pain by reducing cytokine and affecting CB-2 receptors. This reduces pain and decreases the chance of getting an anxiety attack.

    3. CBD improves mood

CBD is considered as a “Neuroprotective” material. “Neuroprotective” actually means it will protect nerve cells by keeping a safe functioning state of the nervous system.

Moreover, it decreases the oxidative stress of your brain.

By keeping your negative emotions in check, CBD helps you to improve your mood and keeps your brain calm and relaxed. It reduces unnecessary stress and anxiety.

    4. CBD Helps Enhance Metabolism

If you have a poor digestive and metabolism system, it will affect your quality of life.

It will make you feel bloated and lethargic. Illness disrupts the natural functioning of your body and if it becomes more serious it causes stress and ultimately, leads to anxiety.

If you start consuming CBD regularly, it will improve your metabolism, burn unnecessary fat, and make you feel better.

    How To Choose CBD Products

CBD has various types of products in the market including oil, tablets, edibles, beverages, creams, and vape. Although the overall vape sales slowed down during this year. Things are starting to look better.

But still, the CBD oils are the most popular ones by a large margin. Each of the types provides almost the same benefits with some unique advantages of their own.  CBD oils have to be consumed daily and provide the most health benefits. They are also the most concentrated ones.  CBD gummies are sweet and take a long time to take effect. CBD lotions are best for exterior physical discomfort.

Depending on your medical condition, you should consult with a healthcare professional who has experience with CBD to choose the right product.

  • Marijuana sales will again be on town meeting warrant as votes needed to clarify past action — The Hull Times – Medical Marijuana Program Connection

Marijuana sales will again be on town meeting warrant as votes needed to clarify past action — The Hull Times – Medical Marijuana Program Connection

    [ad_1]

“Town meeting can get messy sometimes,” Town Planner Chris DiIorio said at the planning board’s April 10 public hearing, adding that language needed to be cleaned up in the marijuana bylaw approved at special town meeting on August 31, 2023.

DiIorio explained when town officials looked at the bylaw more closely with legal counsel, they found the bylaw approved more than just retail marijuana establishments; it also removed some key details like buffer zones around children’s establishments; limiting retail to two businesses; and that no two retail marijuana establishments could be within 2,500 feet of one another.

As part of reviewing the town’s marijuana regulations, the town hired outside counsel (KP Law) to clarify what was adopted at the 2018 town meeting related to banning the sale of recreational marijuana in Hull and make recommendations for bylaw amendments to clear up confusion.

At the planning board public hearing, member Harry Hibbard said he was concerned voters will think a vote on retail marijuana is back on the table, when voters at special town meeting in August supported allowing the sale of recreational marijuana by a majority of 283 to 60.

He said people need to understand recreational marijuana is “approved and done,” and a vote against the marijuana zoning bylaw amendment and the general bylaw amendment next month does not change the approval of retail marijuana sales in Hull.

“We’re not changing what was passed (earlier),” Town…

Researchers found no association between states enacting recreational marijuana laws and an increase of marijuana use among youth populations, according to research published in JAMA Pediatrics.1 Moreover, states even saw a decrease in substance use among younger populations where recreational marijuana is now legal.1,2

Currently, 24 US states and Washington, DC, have established laws allowing the recreational use of marijuana. Eighteen of those states have enacted recreational cannabis retail sales allowing for even easier access to marijuana for individuals over the age of 21.1

According to a 2022 Pew Research study, only 1 of every 10 US adults believe marijuana should be completely illegal.3 With the tide turning on the acceptance of recreational marijuana use, researchers have focused on youth populations and the health impacts recreational marijuana laws can have on adolescents.

    Key Takeaways

    • Researchers addressed the association between recreational marijuana laws and an increase of marijuana use or substance use for adolescents in states where laws have been enacted.
    • They found no evidence of increased use among high school-aged individuals.
    • With overwhelming opinions supporting the legalization of marijuana in the US, researchers did not identify adolescents as an at-risk population to develop an increased use of substances.

Researchers recently published 2 cross-sectional studies that address the increased prevalence of recreational marijuana laws and the effect on…

  • Group Working To Get Recreational Marijuana Use Back On South Dakota Ballot – Medical Marijuana Program Connection

Group Working To Get Recreational Marijuana Use Back On South Dakota Ballot – Medical Marijuana Program Connection

    [ad_1]

(KVHT) – The deadline for petitions to put measures on South Dakota’s 2024 ballot, including recreational marijuana legalization, is May 7th. Campaigners, like South Dakotans for Better Marijuana Laws, must collect 17,508 valid signatures from registered voters by then. With just over 12,500 signatures already gathered, the push is intensifying. The group’s Executive Director is optimistic despite past setbacks. The group argues that constituents’ voices, evidenced by a 70% support for medical cannabis in Measure 26, have been ignored for too long. Supporters are advocating for legalization, citing personal medical benefits and easier access across state lines. Despite fatigue among some supporters, group members urge continued engagement, believing that persistence will ultimately lead to favorable cannabis policies in South Dakota.
