Get ready to roll – legislators can’t settle on changes to marijuana law: Thomas Suddes – Medical Marijuana Program Connection

The circus — doing business as the Ohio General Assembly — left the Statehouse last week, aiming to stay home until sometime in 2024. Given that Ohio’s primary election will be held March 19 — 2 1/2 months into the New Year — don’t expect much Capitol Square boat-rocking before then.

Many, if not most, contests for (gerrymandered) state Senate and Ohio House of Representatives seats are filled in the primary. The last things any incumbent General Assembly member wants just before a primary election are tough Statehouse votes on controversial statewide issues.

For those Ohioans who keep an eye on the Statehouse, many are interested in how and when the legislature will mess with Issue 2, the November ballot measure in which 57% of the Ohioans voting backed the legalization of adult-use recreational marijuana.

The law took effect this month — with some ifs and buts. (Ohio had already legalized medical marijuana in 2016 in a bill whose prime sponsor was then-Rep. Steve Huffman, a suburban Dayton Republican, now a senator, who is a physician.)

Voter-passed Issue 2 allows Ohioans to possess up to six marijuana plants per person (and no more than 12 per household). Initially, the Senate’s GOP buzz-killers had the politically suicidal impulse to forbid homegrown plants altogether. The Senate instead opted for a maximum of six plants per household.

Because the House failed to act on the Senate scheme Wednesday, what Ohio voters legalized in November — up to six plants…

WWE star Liv Morgan arrested in Florida for marijuana possession – Medical Marijuana Program Connection

    [ad_1]

THE VILLAGES, Fla. — WWE wrestler Liv Morgan was arrested Thursday in Central Florida after deputies said she had marijuana in her car during a traffic stop.

Morgan, whose legal name is Gionna Daddio, was charged with marijuana possession not more than 20 grams and possession of a synthetic cannabinoid.

The 29-year-old wrestler was seen driving over street lines multiple times in her Jeep near The Villages, according to WJXT-TV.

A Sumter County Sheriff’s deputy then smelled the scent of marijuana when they got closer to her vehicle, Villages News reports.

When Morgan was pulled over, the deputy reportedly found marijuana in a pink fuzzy bag and a vape pen that had an oil-like substance in the Jeep.

She was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and then released after posting a $3,000 bond, WJXT-TV says.

Morgan, who lives in Springhill, Florida, has over two million followers on Instagram and has been a professional wrestler since 2014.

Will CBD “De-Stress” Your Dog? – Medical Marijuana Program Connection

    [ad_1]

View the original article about CBD for Dogs at Real Tested CBD.

Pet owners often get interested in CBD oil for the same reasons humans take this product. If customers aren’t drawn in by CBD’s anti-inflammatory benefits, chances are they want to use CBD to calm their canine’s nerves. Plenty of studies suggest CBD has tremendous anti-anxiety properties for people, so why wouldn’t these effects transfer to dogs?

Although there are countless success stories of using CBD oils to reduce pet anxiety, the scientific data on this topic is relatively low. While this doesn’t mean CBD can’t be effective for helping dogs de-stress, pet owners must recognize there are many unanswered questions about using CBD for this purpose.

To be frank, most of the studies looking into CBD for dog anxiety haven’t been super impressive. For instance, one study out of the University of Kentucky examined whether CBD affected a dog’s response to loud fireworks. In this trial, researchers gave participating pups a dose of CBD, trazodone, or trazadone and CBD. There were also a few dogs who took a placebo pill before the test began.

After giving the dogs a few minutes to settle down, scientists played loud fireworks noises and examined each dog’s behavior. Researchers also collected blood samples from the dogs to determine whether there were any stress biomarkers.

Trazodone was the only therapy that appeared to reduce the dogs’ fear response. Interestingly, CBD appeared to increase…

Sections of Nairobi including the Central Business District (CBD) flooded on Thursday morning following a heavy downpour.

This was the first major flooding since the country started experiencing heavy rains in November.

Motorists using Kenyatta Avenue were inconvenienced as the road became impassable as well as adjoining roads with cars struggling to make it through the submerged streets.

Imara Daima was one of the most affected areas as roads in the estate became submerged which brought transport to an almost standstill.

Despite being elevated, sections of the Nairobi Expressway also experienced flooding leading to a traffic snarl-up.  Additionally, a minor accident was reported in the area.

Speaking during an interview with Spice FM on Thursday morning, Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen revealed that the government had already put in place measures to address the problem.

Dunedin Council pays Side-on cafe to end lease in CBD amid fears of sinkhole – Medical Marijuana Program Connection

    [ad_1]

A popular Dunedin cafe was paid almost $700,000 by the council to close its doors.

Side-on announced its Moray Pl business was coming to an “abrupt end” after more than a year of negotiations with the Dunedin City Council.

The council needed the business to close before starting critical repairs to water pipes amid fears of a sinkhole.

A council spokesman told the Otago Daily Times yesterday it had paid out $695,000 to the cafe’s owners to end its lease.

The council paid $1.775 million to buy the building last year, for the purposes of connecting pipes between Bath St and Moray Pl.

Side-on had a lease until 2034, and the council had purchased the remainder of that lease, the council spokesman said.

“We recognise Side-on is a much-loved cafe, and we worked with the owners on various options for an alternative venue during our negotiations.

“While the cafe will now close instead, we wish the owners well for any new venture in 2024.

“This agreement allows for work to proceed as quickly as possible on the replacement of old and failing pipes under Bath St,” the spokesman said.

The project had been particularly challenging from an engineering perspective, and time had been an important factor, he said.

It had investigated alternative pipe routes as part of its planning, but “almost all routes” had to pass under private property in Bath St at some stage.

The only other option was to run the new pipe along…

Sydney CBD records steepest negative office demand in Q3 – Medical Marijuana Program Connection

    [ad_1]

Net absorption in the area was -25,100sqm during the quarter.

The office market in Sydney’s CBD recorded net absorption of -25,100 sqm in Q3, driven by large occupiers consolidating within the finance and telecommunications sectors.

According to JLL, positive net absorption was recorded in three out of ten Sydney office markets. The largest positive result was recorded in North Sydney with 6,300 sqm of positive absorption, as small tenants (<1,000 sqm) drove demand.

    Here’s more from JLL:

The Sydney CBD had the highest negative result (-25,100 sqm), followed by Parramatta (-14,700 sqm). The consolidation of Link Market Services (6,000 sqm) and negative small tenant leasing activity were the key contributors to this result. The vacancy rate for the Sydney CBD increased 0.1 percentage points to 14.5% over the quarter, and is now at the highest recorded rate since 1994.

CBD stock decreases with two withdrawals and no completions

Total stock in the Sydney CBD decreased by 19,800 sqm mainly due to 39-41 York Street (5,795 sqm) and 133 Liverpool Street (15,000 sqm) being withdrawn from the market. Both buildings will be converted to a hotel and a residence, respectively.

JLL recorded no office completions in the Sydney CBD over the quarter. There was one completion in Sydney metro markets, 88 Walker Street in North Sydney (13,602 sqm). There is currently 463,600 sqm of office space under construction across all of Sydney’s office markets. The largest of…

Medical marijuana companies can now sell recreational weed in New York City – Medical Marijuana Program Connection

    [ad_1]

UNION SQUARE, Manhattan (PIX11) — If it seems like there’s a cannabis shop everywhere you look, it’s likely because there are so many — one every seven blocks on average, throughout the five boroughs of New York City.

Because almost all of them are illegal in New York State, some of the few legal shops are welcoming a regulatory change that allows longstanding legal medical marijuana shops to expand into recreational cannabis sales.

The change comes exactly a year after recreational marijuana became legal in New York State. It also coincides with the end of the first holiday season ever in which recreational cannabis has been legal.

At Union Square Travel Agency, a high-end recreational cannabis retailer, on Tuesday, Mike Conway, the company’s vice president of retail, spoke about the new change and its effect on his company’s business.

“While, of course, more competition takes some market share, [and] takes some customers potentially,” he said, “I think we have a great shop, so I’m not too worried. It’s good to have more access to safe cannabis out there.”

The new move, approved last Friday by the New York Office of Cannabis Management, allows six medical marijuana dispensaries to begin selling cannabis for recreational use.

  • Global CBD Market to Hit $36B Over Next Decade, Report Predicts | High Times

Global CBD Market to Hit $36B Over Next Decade, Report Predicts | High Times

    [ad_1]

The popularity of CBD and other hemp-derived compounds continues to surge in terms of sales. A new report predicts that the CBD market is poised to surpass $36 billion dollars by 2033.

According to market.us, the global Cannabidiol Market Size was valued at $7.6 billion in 2023 and is predicted to reach approximately $36.6 billion by 2033. During the period ranging from 2024 to 2033, it is projected to undergo the highest Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 17.5%.

“The cannabidiol (CBD) industry has witnessed remarkable growth driven by several key factors,” market.us announced in a press release. “Legalization and regulatory changes have removed barriers, allowing for the cultivation and sale of hemp-derived CBD products. Consumer awareness has surged with increasing recognition of CBD’s potential health benefits, contributing to a growing demand for CBD products. Medical acceptance, backed by research on CBD’s therapeutic properties, has further propelled its adoption. The industry’s diverse product offerings, ranging from oils to edibles, cater to varied consumer preferences, fostering market expansion. Accessibility through various distribution channels and retail outlets has played a crucial role in making CBD products widely available.”

Beyond legislative changes, CBD is growing in popularity, driven by the changes in the way it’s perceived.

“Additionally, the CBD industry has benefited from investment influx, supporting research, development, and marketing efforts. Changing attitudes toward cannabis, coupled with the globalization of the market, have expanded opportunities on a global scale. The industry’s response to quality concerns, with the establishment of standards and certification, has enhanced consumer confidence. Despite the growth, challenges such as regulatory uncertainties and quality control issues persist, influencing the industry’s trajectory. Ongoing developments in regulations and market dynamics will continue to shape the future of the CBD industry.

The report provided six main takeaways to sum up their predictions in a nutshell:

    • Market Growth: The global cannabidiol (CBD) market reached USD 7.6 billion in 2023 and is projected to surge to approximately USD 36.6 billion by 2033, with a remarkable CAGR of 17.5% during 2024-2033.
    • Product Types: CBD oil is the most dominant product type, with a market share of over 30%, largely due to its effectiveness in managing chronic pain.
    • Source: Hemp represents the most lucrative segment, accounting for over 63.2% of the market, driven by the fact that hemp contains high levels of CBD and very low levels of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), which is the psychoactive compound responsible for the “high” associated with marijuana.
    • Sales Type: B2B holds the largest market share (55.1%) as the B2B transactions typically involve larger quantities of products or services compared to B2C. The segment is also expected to grow in the future as demand for CBD as a raw material is anticipated to increase.
    • End-Use: Pharmaceuticals represent the most lucrative segment, accounting for over 37.2% of the market, driven by CBD’s neuroprotective and pain-relieving properties.
    • Regional Dominance: North America leads the market, holding a 60% market share, with Europe and Asia-Pacific showing emerging demand.

North America is the world’s largest CBD market, comprising 72.1% market share during the forecast period. This is mostly due to the loosening of regulations on CBD products in countries like the U.S. and Canada. Consumer preferences continue to evolve, as the food, pharmaceutical, and This could change soon however, the report notes, as North America’s dominance could soon be challenged by Europe.

In the Asia Pacific region—covering China, Japan, and India—there is a notable growth in the CBD market, partly due to recent changes in law. The increasing demand for CBD products and continual changes in the legal status and acceptance leads to significant opportunities, the report reads.

The hemp sector emerges as the most profitable CBD-related market, commanding a robust 63.2% share of the global CBD market as of 2023.

A full copy of the report in PDF is available for download here.

    Aligning with Other Reports

The hemp and CBD markets generally overlap, and other reports predict a similar rise in hemp sales, driven in part by CBD.

A report in December 2022 arrived at similar predictions. In the “Global Hemp Market by Type” report from Research and Markets, which analyzed the numerous applications of hemp as a textile, food item, construction material, and more, a surge in hemp products is predicted.

The report projects that the next five years will see the industry’s compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 21.6%, suggesting that this percentage will rise because many other countries have legalized industrial hemp, or will do so in the near future.

Given that hemp accounts as the origin of over 60% of CBD products, the rise in sales are interconnected.
