STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Local marijuana enthusiasts will soon be able to legally purchase cannabis products without leaving the comfort of their home borough.

Staten Island’s first adult-use marijuana dispensary, The Flowery, is planning for a soft opening on Tuesday, Jan. 9, with a grand opening party expected sometime in the weeks that follow, according to owner Mohamed Elgaly.

The store, located at 3022 Veterans Rd. West in Charleston, will be stocked with a vast variety of cannabis products, including marijuana flower, pre-rolls, concentrates and edibles. Prices will vary based on THC dosage, but eighths of flower are expected to range from $40 to $60, with pre-rolls available for $10 to $20 and edibles ranging from $25 to $50.

Elgaly, who has presented plans for the business to various community groups, said that while some have voiced concerns about potential sales to under-age customers, the vast majority of people he’s spoken to are extremely excited about the upcoming opening.

“I think nine out of 10 people are super excited. Even Community Board 3, the members were very excited about the opportunity of having the first [adult-use dispensary] on Staten Island,” Elgaly said. “There was one or two concerned parents, because it’s something new to them and whenever something is new some people are scared.”

A section of Jua Kali artisans and slum-dwellers on Thursday took to the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) demanding the implementation of the Housing Levy.

While staging their protest, the artisans and other stakeholders set to benefit from President William Ruto’s action plan argued that if the project fails to take off, their livelihoods would be affected in a major way.

Meanwhile, a section of Nairobi residents drawn from informal settlements argued that if the project is successful and the government delivers the affordable houses on time, their standard of living will become better, which they pointed out as one of the main reasons for staging the protest.

The group was allegedly heading to present a petition in Parliament for the implementation of the levy.

Videos shared online showed the crowd holding placards and banners urging the government to ensure the levy is implemented for the benefit of all Kenyans.

“Housing Levy is the cure for better housing,” one of the placards read, “Do not take away our livelihood. Tujenge nyumba tuimarishe uchumi wetu (Let’s build houses and grow our economy),” read another.

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) – Tuesday night, the Pueblo City Council voted to temporarily suspend the city’s excise tax for recreational Marijuana cultivated within city limits.

It’s an extra eight percent fee charged to those businesses, a fee that is often passed along to consumers during a time when business is slowing overall for Marijuana growers, according to the Director of Dispensary Operations for Apothecary Farms.

City Council’s decision was contended, both sides well-supported. Ultimately, the decision was made to drive more revenue into these businesses and create jobs.

“Ultimately, absolutely, as an industry, it’s been impacted,” Marshall Marquardt, director of dispensary operations said.

But the growers and distributors aren’t the only ones impacted by the decision. According to the President of Pueblo City Council Heather Graham, the tax revenue drove hundreds of thousands of dollars into the city budget.

“I think that this tax was put in place for a reason. I think that saying that we are going to lose a minimal amount of $500,000 over the next three years is — I don’t think that we can afford to lose that tax revenue that’s coming in,” Graham said.  

She was overruled in an effort to keep Pueblo competitive with the rest of the market.

A Hyderabad woman conspired with her partner to take revenge on her ex-boyfriend by planting marijuana in his car. Six people, including the couple and four of their friends, have been arrested in the case.

The woman, identified as Adhokshaja, along with her boyfriend Deepak, hatched a plan to frame Shravan, her former boyfriend. They planned to plant marijuana in Shravan’s car and call the cops on him. Four of their friends helped the couple carry out the plan.

On Monday, Adhokshaja reached out to Shravan and convinced him to meet her at a park under the pretext of settling their differences.

Adhokshaja, Deepal and four others met Shravan in his car. While Adhokshaja spoke to Shravan and kept him busy, her friends hid marijuana packets under the seat of his car. They then proceeded to get out of the car.

Adhokshaja then reported to the Jubilee Hills police station about illegal marijuana selling activities and provided them with Shravan’s vehicle number.

Meanwhile, after everyone left, Shravan got a bit suspicious and checked his car. He discovered marijuana packets in his car and rushed to the Jubilee Hills police station and narrated the whole incident.

On Tuesday, the police investigated the matter and found out that the woman along with her boyfriend and friends had hatched this plan to take revenge on her ex-boyfriend.

Upon questioning, the woman informed the police that Sharavan used to “character assassinate” her, which prompted her to plan this revenge.

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A Vietnamese student surnamed Wu (武, Ngô) was caught utilizing an international parcel service to transport drugs from Vietnam to Taiwan, according to the Aviation Police Bureau and Taipei Customs Bureau announcement on Tuesday (Dec. 26).

Authorities had seized two different parcels on July 20 containing what was billed as 17 cans of matcha green tea powder, which was a disguise to conceal the Class-2 narcotic, marijuana. The drug weighed 1,168 grams and 1,002 grams, respectively.

After checking parcel records, they found the recipient was located in Shenkeng District, New Taipei City. They contacted the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office to investigate, per CNA.

A task force’s preliminary investigation found that the recipient of the package was to be a man named Wu. Later, it was found that the consignee had signed for multiple international parcels and had actively tracked the status of such shipments.
