(KRON) — A semi-automatic pistol and several bags of marijuana were found during a traffic stop Monday, according to the Fairfield Police Department. An officer made a traffic enforcement stop at Parkway Gardens near Del Paso Court at around 2:02 p.m.

The vehicle that was stopped was occupied by two men. A records check, police said, revealed that the driver was on probation. Police searched the vehicle and patted down the passenger.

A semi-automatic pistol was found in the waistband of the passenger, who police said had previously denied having a firearm. Officers also found several bags of marijuana in the car.

Officers secured the firearm and detained both men. A 19-year-old Fairfield man was arrested for weapons charges including possession of a stolen firearm. A 23-year-old man was cited for several open container and vehicle code violations.

Police have arrested three youths in possession of marijuana on Tuesday.

The Birgunj unit of the Narcotics Control Bureau of Nepal Police and the District Police Office, Bara recovered packets of food items containing 1.146 kgs of marijuana.

Sisauwari residents Naimodin Miya, 22, Krishna Sharaf, 22, and Jitendra Sah, 27, were taken into custody for being in possession of the banned substance, police said.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Dadhiram Neupane, also the spokesperson for the district police office, the three youths were arrested from the Kalaiya Sub Metropolitan post office.

The contraband was allegedly smuggled from the US, police said.

A case has been filed against the accused on charge of drug offence. Their judicial custody has been extended by five days, and further investigation into the matter is underway, Neupane added.

Pittsburgh police are investigating after an incident at a downtown business.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. along Liberty Avenue. When officers arrived, they were met by a store owner who told them fighting began after he refused to sell a CBD product to men under 21.

Witnesses called police when the fight moved to the sidewalk. The store owner said that’s when the men showed they had a gun. They fled on foot but were later arrested.

One of the suspects has been identified as 18-year-old Parris Brown. The other suspect has refused to identify himself.

Old Mutual Towers in Nairobi’s Upperhill area on Sunday caught fire, during the New Year celebrations barely hours after the government issued a warning, notifying Kenyans intending to display fireworks to acquire permits.

In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the building began to showcase fireworks after midnight to usher in the New Year.

However, minutes later smoke engulfed the air and huge flames could be seen from the building.

Following the incident, Old Mutual Towers took to their social platforms to confirm that normalcy had been restored.

“We acknowledge there was a minor incident after the New Year Fireworks celebration at the Old Mutual Tower. This was on the balcony of a top floor and it has since been contained,” the statement read in part.

“We thank all our celebrants for the notifications and we wish you all a Happy 2024.”

The incident comes hours after the government had instructed Kenyans to adhere to the regulations within the Explosives Act during the New Year celebrations.

Detectives drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Saturday night raided several stalls within Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) in an operation to arrest traders selling counterfeit books.

Upon further interrogation by the detectives, the suspect ceded to the officers’ demands and led them to another shop located at Manshram Mansion along the same street where over 1,000 copies of Four Figure Mathematical Tables without covers were recovered.

Syracuse, N.Y. — A security guard at a pop-up marijuana event in Syracuse Saturday told police that the event was robbed by several people armed with guns.

The event at 3122 Grant Blvd. was reported to be robbed around 1:17 p.m. of marijuana, money and the guard’s gun, Lt. Matthew Malinowski, a Syracuse police spokesperson, said.

A youth who was attempting to smuggle marijuana over the wall of Brahmanbaria District Jail was detained by the prison authorities and later handed over to the police station.

The incident took place on Friday at Brahmanbaria District Jail in Urdashur. 

The arrested youth is Md Suman Hazari, 22, son of Md Jahangir Hazari from the Urdashur village. 

However, as the prison authorities did not file any charges against him, the Brahmanbaria Sadar Model police station sent him to court showing his arrest in another drug case.

Brahmanbaria Jail Superintendent Md Sohidul Islam said: “On Friday afternoon, the young man was caught on the prison’s CCTV camera trying to enter the jail premises with drugs by scaling the boundary wall. He was immediately detained, and a knife and several packets of marijuana were seized from him. He was later handed over to the police.”

Brahmanbaria Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Aslam Hossain said: “Several packets of marijuana were seized from the youth. However, the jail authorities did not file any written complaint with the police station. The youth was then sent to court, being shown arrested in another drug case.”
