    Is Ilaiyaraaja’s biopic starring Dhanush ready to begin production work on March 20?

    Over the last few months, reports of a biopic film being made on the life of esteemed and legendary music composer Ilaiyaraaja have been doing the rounds greatly. Now, it seems that the makers are moving forward with the production soon.

    According to a report from Valai Pechu, it is being said that the production work of Ilaiyaraaja’s biopic is set to begin on March 20th, 2024 which will have Dhanush in the lead role with Arun Matheswaran set to direct the film.

    Ilaiyaraaja’s biopic to begin production soon?

    According to the report, the film’s production is set to kick off on March 20th at Leela Palace in Chennai. Reports of Dhanush playing the role of Ilaiyaraaja had been doing the rounds on the internet for quite some time now.

    Moreover, this would also mean that Dhanush and Arun Matheswaran are coming together for a film following the success of their previous action film Captain Miller which is set to be a trilogy they have planned. Interestingly, Arun who has directed films like Rocky and Captain Miller is more or so known as an action director, making the biopic over the life of Ilaiyaraaja a new attempt for the filmmaker.

    Dhanush’s Workfront

    Dhanush was last early this year for the film Captain Miller starring himself in the titular role with Priyanka Arul Mohan, Aditi Balan, Shiva Rajkumar, Sundeep Kishan, Edward Sonnenblick, and many more actors playing key roles in the film. The film which is set in the 1930s, during the British Raj, follows a former British Army soldier trying to save his home village from destruction by the British Army. The film was well received by the critics and also went on to become a box office success in theaters despite having a clash release during the Pongal season.

    Dhanush is currently working with director Sekhar Kammula on the film Kubera which has the actor in the lead role with Nagarjuna Akkineni and Rashmika Mandanna playing key roles in the film. Furthermore, Dhanush is also planning to release two of his directorial ventures this year as well.

    First of them is Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam aka NEEK which is a romantic comedy film starring actors like Mathew Thomas, Anikha Surendran, Priya Prakash Varrier, Pavish, Venkatesh Menon, and many more.

    Secondly, Raayan which is touted to be an action-thriller film starring Dhanush in the lead role as well as an ensemble cast of actors like Sundeep Kishan, Kalidas Jayaram, SJ Suryah, Selvaraghavan, and many more joining them.

    Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay declared the formation of his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. The important announcement followed approval from his fan club, Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, during a meeting in Chennai last week. Vijay also revealed that his party would be contesting in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections, and not in the 2024 Parliamentary elections.

    Vetrimaaran’s upcoming film Viduthalai 2, starring Soori and Vijay Sethupathi, premiered at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam and received a five-minute standing ovation. Viduthalai Part 2 is set to take off from where its predecessor ended.

    3. Dulquer Salmaan unveils Prithviraj starrer Aadujeevitham’s third poster

    Actor Dulquer Salmaan released the third poster of the upcoming Malayalam film Aadujeevitham, starring Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead role, on January 30. This followed the release of the first two posters by actors Prabhas and Ranveer Singh. The film is slated to be released on April 10, 2024.

    4. Captain Miller’s OTT release date

    Dhanush’s Captain Miller is ready for its OTT premiere on Prime Video on February 9. The Tamil period action drama, directed by Arun Matheswaran, also features Shiva Rajkumar, Nassar, Sundeep Kishan, Priyanka Mohan, and Nivedhithaa Sathish in pivotal roles. “What makes a soldier go rogue? the answer lies in Miller’s journey. #CaptainMillerOnPrime, Feb 9,” wrote the OTT platform on their official X account.

    5. Dulquer Salmaan unveils Lucky Baskhar’s first poster

    Dulquer Salmaan has released the first look of his upcoming Telugu feature film, Lucky Baskhar. The actor shared the first look of his upcoming project as he completed his 12 years in the film industry. The film will be helmed by Venky Atluri.

    6. Megastar Chiranjeevi felicitated as a Padma Vibhushan awardee

    Dhanush’s upcoming film, Captain Miller, has been the talk of the town for some time now. The film, helmed by Arun Matheswaran, also features an ensemble cast including Shiva Rajkumar, Sundeep Kishan, Priyanka Mohan, Nassar, Vinoth Kishan, and many more. The film is officially set to hit the big screens on 15th December.

    Captain Miller is to be released in two parts

    Since the announcement of the film in 2021, there has been a lot of hype surrounding the project, with fans speculating that the film would be about the real-life LTTE rebel, Captain Miller. However, helmer Arun Matheswaran had denied the rumors, saying that the film was a complete action adventure, tailored to cater to a larger audience. 

    In the latest update, it has been reported that the film will be released in two parts. It is also reported that Shiva Rajkumar and Priyanka Mohan will be playing pivotal roles in the film, and that actress Aditi Balan, known for films like Aruvi, will have a crucial role in the second part of the film. However, there has been no official confirmation regarding any of these reports.

    Captain Miller is said to be set in the 1980s and is a period action-adventure entertainer bankrolled by Sendhil Thyagarajan and Arjun Thyagarajan under the banner of Sathya Jyothi Films. The same production house has bagged the overseas theatrical rights of the film as well. The music for the film is composed by GV Prakash Kumar. 

    What’s next for Dhanush

    Following Captain Miller, Dhanush will be part of a film that is temporarily titled D50. The film marks the Jagame Thanthiram actor’s fifth directorial venture. The film is said to feature an ensemble cast including Sundeep Kishan, Kalidas Jayaram, and Aparna Balamurali among others.
