Pedestrianised streets, thousands more homes, car spaces underneath parks, pitched for Future Geelong CBD – Medical Marijuana Program Connection

Example of a streetscape under the Central Geelong Framework Plan

The 30-year rule book for Geelong’s CBD would see it transformed into a thriving urban centre to rival those around the country and overseas. The Addy has looked at the state government’s 177-page rule book to pull out details that will shape our CBD’s future, Chad Van Estrop reports.

FEWER cars on CBD streets, no trucks in the city centre, car spaces under ground-level parks, an extension of Little Malop St’s west end and a second green spine, dotted among residential, retail and office buildings up to 60m tall is the vision for the CBD in 2050.

According to the state government’s Central Geelong Framework Plan, released this month, there would 16,000 residents, an extra 1.67 million sq m of floorspace and 60,000 jobs in the CBD by that time.

The release of the framework that sets development parameters and goals has prompted major players in the city’s future to act on CBD plans long on the back burner.

One developer, who holds land at Malop St, is preparing a residential, retail and office development potentially worth up to $100m.

Another with land at Gheringhap St, south of Ryrie St, is in talks with a federal government department to relocate into an office development that would be worth more than $20m.

  • How to Beat a Urine Drug Test if You Used Weed – 3 Marijuana Detox Methods Explained – Medical Marijuana Program Connection

How to Beat a Urine Drug Test if You Used Weed – 3 Marijuana Detox Methods Explained – Medical Marijuana Program Connection

Marijuana is allowed in pretty much all states now. However, the status of whether or not it’s legal for medicinal purposes or recreational uses still varies. And in other states, the use of weed still hasn’t been decriminalized — which is a risky ordeal to go through if you test positive for cannabis use. Fortunately, there’s a possible way around it — there are steps on how to beat a urine drug test or at least expedite the time to get weed out of your system!

3 Possible Ways to Beat a Urine Drug Test After Using Marijuana

    Sweat It Out

Sweating out a toxin is the most commonly known method of getting rid of a substance in your body. Whether you prefer to go for a run, jog, or spend time in the sauna, these are great ways to not only possibly sweat out marijuana metabolites, but also to keep you fit or get you healthier! However, there are conflicting reports as to how effective sweating out THC is. But what’s been proven in various studies is that marijuana can be traced in sweat. Therefore, there’s a chance you can perspire some of the marijuana compounds out of your system.

    Drink Cleansing Drinks

Regardless of the purpose, pretty much everyone should start juicing! Not only are there countless studies that cleansing beverages are good for the body, they’re also a great way to potentially expel a toxin out of your body faster — weed metabolites included. You can opt to concoct a detoxifying drink or you can purchase one from a juice bar.

    However, if…

  • Weed’s impact on teenagers: UIC neuroscientist Kuei Tseng uses rats to study marijuana’s effects on adolescent brains – Medical Marijuana Program Connection

Weed’s impact on teenagers: UIC neuroscientist Kuei Tseng uses rats to study marijuana’s effects on adolescent brains – Medical Marijuana Program Connection

The experiment’s setup, or rig, as Kuei Tseng calls it, looks like a cartoon version of something cobbled together by a mad scientist.

Clear plastic hoses snake from jars and containers down to two large, liquid-filled beakers on the floor and back up and around, ending in a tiny pipette poised at an angle under a high-powered microscope. It’s called a patch clamp, and it sounds like a backyard water fountain as it gurgles in the lab on the sixth floor of a University of Illinois Chicago medical building on Wood Street.

A lab assistant spins a dial, bringing into focus on a screen a rodent brain cell about one-seventh the diameter of a human hair. It’s from a teenage lab rat that was high on tetrahydrocannabinol — THC, the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana.

The cell will live for only about five hours in this solution. But its reaction to stimuli during the experiment offers Tseng, 50, who is one of the country’s foremost neuroscientists, and his research team clues regarding an important question:

How bad is smoking or ingesting weed for a teenager?

High on marijuana, Tseng’s lab rats, chosen at an age that equates to a human’s teenage years, are being studied to better understand long-term effects of cannabis on the teenage brain.

It’s no secret that getting high makes it harder for teenagers — and…

Speak Up: Marijuana legalization bill passes Delaware House

The legalization component of state Rep. Ed Osienski’s push to regulate adult-use cannabis in the First State successfully passed the House of Representatives on March 7. Despite public safety and childhood development concerns from House Republicans, the bill has been sent to the Senate, which passed the previous version of the legislation during the 151st General Assembly. House Bill 1, one-half of the two-pronged approach from Rep. Osienski, D-Newark, legalizes and removes penalties for the possession of marijuana in quantities deemed for personal use.

The hatted contemporary fine-diner joins the blossoming Wynyard precinct as Korean spots pop up all over town.

Sydney’s Korean food movement is about to take off, and the unlikely ingredients for its propulsion can be found in Squid Game, K-pop and the global popularity of Parasite.

“When we started four-and-a-half years ago, the concept [of contemporary Korean] was very foreign, but Korean culture with film and TV and music has brought more interest in the food,” says Illa Kim, co-owner of Surry Hills’ hatted Soul Dining.

In July, Soul Dining will take its pioneering Korean gastronomy to the CBD, securing premises near Wynyard Station at 50 Carrington Street.

The relocated Soul Dining is placing itself at the epicentre of Sydney’s new dining action – its neighbours will include Shell House, Jimmy’s Falafel, Kabul Social and the relocated Toko.

Kim explains the larger space will allow them to amp up their food and service, while adding a new clientele.

Lincoln Township considers need for marijuana ordinance – Medical Marijuana Program Connection

The Lincoln Township Planning Commission is considering a local ordinance to cover marijuana businesses, just in case such an ordinance is needed. The commission’s Marc Florian told the Lincoln Township Board of Trustees Tuesday although the township has opted out of allowing such businesses altogether, planners are thinking about what happens if they’re no longer allowed to do so.

“We want to have an ordinance already written that at least enables the township to maintain control as to where these different types of uses and facilities would occur,” Florian said. “That way, we can just pull it off the shelf and we can enact it and not have to act with little preparedness or forethought.”

Florian told us they want to be prepared if there’s ever a state referendum preventing municipalities from allowing marijuana establishments. Trustees noted they’ve heard of problems caused by marijuana businesses in communities that do allow them, like traffic issues in New Buffalo. The board told Florian the planning commission can proceed with drafting a plan.

Psychiatrist calls on govt to consider resources for mental illness in marijuana legislation – Medical Marijuana Program Connection

    By LETRE SWEETING

    Tribune Staff Reporter

    lsweeting@tribunemedia.net

WITH officials said to be finalising marijuana legislation, a local psychiatrist has called on the government to prioritise providing sufficient resources for those with mental illnesses, which she found could progress to a chronic psychotic illness with substance abuse.

Dr Tameka Johnson- Dames, who has been working at Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre for seven years, conducted a research report as a part of her medical studies last year to explore a possible association between cannabis use and psychosis in patients admitted to the facility between March 2019 and February 2021.

Through examination of 101 patient medical records, Dr Johnson-Dames found that 24 of the patients who had a diagnosis of schizophrenia had an evolution of this diagnosis, with 17 of them having also used cannabis.

Her report concluded: “Cannabis use was not found to be associated with a complicated hospital course, nor was a family history of psychiatric illness associated with increased admissions for cannabis induced psychosis. This was regardless of admission time period. However, its use was associated with the conversion of psychosis to a chronic psychotic illness.”

With these findings in mind, Dr Johnson-Dames told The Tribune this week that the problem of mental health and substance abuse should be addressed “now”. She pointed to there being just one public in-patient substance abuse programme in…

Van full of marijuana explodes on California highway – Medical Marijuana Program Connection

SANTA ROSA, Calif. (KRON) — First responders were already busy with storm-related emergencies on Tuesday when a van exploded and caught fire on a California highway.

Santa Rosa Fire Department firefighters saw the flaming van on Highway 101’s onramp at 3rd Street at 9:34 a.m.

Once firefighters doused the fire, they found “several 55-gallon bags full of marijuana ‘shake’ soaked in butane,” SRFD wrote. The driver suffered burn injuries and was transported to a hospital.

Butane is a highly explosive material used to convert marijuana plants into oil, also known as “dabs” or “wax.”

Australia’s First Capella Hotel Has Opened in Sydney After a Seven-Year Restoration of Its Historic CBD Building – Medical Marijuana Program Connection

Sydney has just joined the likes of Bangkok, Hainan, Hanoi, Shanghai and Singapore as a home to the luxury hotel group Capella. The award-winning accommodation provider officially opened Capella Sydney today, Wednesday, March 15, bringing 192 luxury rooms to a historic inner-city building.

Housed within the sandstone Department of Education Building on the corner of Bridge Street and Loftus Street just across from Macquarie Place Park, the expansive hotel adds another dose of lavish luxury to Sydney’s hotel scene. The restoration and reimagination of the century-old building took seven years in the hands of the Pontiac Land Group.

The nine-storey building has been transformed with a glamourous interior brought together by muted tones of white and brown giving the hotel both a vintage and timeless quality.

“Pontiac Land has always been passionate about creating meaningful developments that contribute and help shape their communities. Capella Sydney was an ideal opportunity for us to sensitively repurpose this culturally significant landmark in the heart of downtown Sydney and transform it into a more public offering as a leading luxury hotel for everyone to be able to experience,” says Pontiac Land Group Chief Executive Officer David Tsang.

Guests are greeted with a flurry of acquired and commissioned art within the lobby including works from the likes of Judy Watson and Otis Hope Carey, as well as a robotic light installation titled Meadow from Dutch art duo DRIFT.
