Do you have one streaming service too many? While you’re far from alone in that, sometimes it’s worth saying goodbye to one and saving some cash. Take Paramount+, which starts at $8 per month for its ad-supported Essential plan. Then there’s its ad-free Premium plan, coming in at $13 a month.
In the meantime, here’s everything you need to know about canceling your subscription through Paramount+ or third-party providers like Apple or Google.
How to cancel via web:
If your subscription is directly through Paramount+ then canceling it takes only a few clicks.
Sign in to your Paramount+ account on your browser.
Go to the Paramount+ Account page.
Tap on Cancel Subscription.
How to cancel via third-party provider:
It’s still relatively simple to cancel your Paramount+ subscription even if you bought it through a third-party. Here’s what you need to know based on where you purchased it.

Go to Settings in your iPhone or iPad.

Can I pause my subscription?
No, there’s no option as of yet to pause your Paramount+ subscription. If you want to cancel it then just do so and rejoin when the time is right — or a better deal is available.
What happens after you cancel
The good news is that your subscription won’t end immediately. If you’re in a free trial then your access to Paramount+ will remain until the trial period ends. Similarly, paid subscribers will lose the ability to use Paramount+ at the end of the current billing period. Notably, if you’ve used a multi-month promotion, your subscription will still stop at the end of your current billing period.
It happened again. Peacock for its Premium and Premium Plus plans. This is the third price increase in as many years. If your bank account is feeling the pain, or if you’re just looking to , you may decide it’s time to take a break from . Here’s everything you need to know about canceling your Peacock subscription.
How to cancel via web
The simplest way to end your Peacock Premium service is if you’re being billed directly by the company. You can follow the same steps in a web or mobile browser.
Log in to your Peacock Premium or Premium Plus account.
Click on the Profile icon.
Select Account or Plans & Payments.
Follow the prompts to confirm the cancellation.
That’s pretty simple, but things get a bit more complicated if you’re not in a direct-billing situation.
How to cancel via third-party provider
Like most modern streaming platforms, Peacock has partnerships with third-party providers like Apple and Amazon. This lets users sign up for the service through an entirely separate platform, like Prime Video. Cancelling has to also go through this third party. The general idea here is to sign into that account and find somewhere to manage billing and subscriptions, looking for Peacock. Here are specific steps for some of the more common providers.
Cancel via Apple
Go to the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
Tap on your name at the top of the screen and tap Subscriptions.
Select your Peacock subscription to manage and make changes.
Cancel via Amazon
Go to Amazon Memberships and Subscriptions using a web browser.
Sign in to your Amazon account.
Navigate to your Peacock subscription and select Cancel Subscription.
Cancel via Google Play
Go to the Google Play store using a web browser.
Confirm that you’re signed in to your Google account.
On the top right, click your Google account icon and select Payment & Subscriptions.
Click the Subscriptions tab and select your Peacock subscription.
Click Manage and select Cancel subscription.
Cancel via Roku
On your Roku TV, highlight Peacock.
Press the star (*) button.
Select Manage Subscriptions.
Look for Peacock and hit Cancel.
How to cancel a promotional subscription
Peacock is often given away by internet providers like Comcast and phone carriers, among others. These plans often start free, but that goes away after a year or so. Check the fine print to see when your gifted subscription will run out, as you’ll begin getting charged the usual rate. The best way to cancel these subscriptions is via the entity that offered it in the first place. This means you’ll have to call up Xfinity or Spectrum directly. A customer representative should be able to handle the cancellation.
Can I pause a Peacock subscription?
No, Peacock doesn’t currently offer the ability to pause a subscription. The best way to effectively “pause” a subscription is to cancel via one of the aforementioned methods and then resubscribe at a later date.
What happens after you cancel?
Cancelling a Peacock subscription doesn’t immediately end your service. There are no partial refunds given, so you’ll have full access to the account until the next payment date. At that point, the service will revert to the free tier. This means that if you change your mind before the next pay period, it’s really easy to get things going again. Just look for a Restart Subscription button somewhere on the Account page.
Like most modern tech services, cancelling doesn’t erase any of your data. The subscription reverts to the free tier and will live on. To permanently close an account, you have to manually fill out a request via the in the Account page. This will lead you to a website to close the account.
Spotify recently came under fire for running recruitment ads for ICE, which ask users to “join the mission to protect America” and to “fulfill [their] mission,” in the US. Despite music labels calling on the streaming service to stop serving ICE recruitment ads, Spotify doubled down. A spokesperson for the company told The Independent that the ads are “part of a broad campaign” by the US government running across different channels and that they do not violate its policies. The spokesperson advised users to just mark ads with a thumbs up or down so that the app can learn their preferences.
In addition, several artists have pulled their music from Spotify recently over its CEO’s, Daniel EK’s, investments in European defense tech firm Helsing. The defense company builds drones, aircraft and submarines, and it also sells AI software that can analyze sensor and weapons data from battlefields. Spotify has been facing backlash for its payout rates, which artists argue are unfair and lower than what other services pay, over the past few years as well.
So if you want to cancel Spotify, whether for any those reasons or another one altogether, you can follow the instructions below.
How to cancel via web:
1. Log into your Spotify account in your browser.
2. Go to Account in the dropdown menu that shows up when you click on your Profile.
3. Find Cancel Subscription under the Subscription section.
4. Spotify will tell you that you’ll hear ads every 15 minutes on a free account, along with the date when your premium access will end. Click “Continue to cancel” at the bottom of the screen.
If you’re on mobile, make sure to request the desktop site after you log into your account on your mobile browser. Take note that if you’re part of a Spotify Family or Duo plan, only the plan manager will be able to cancel your subscription altogether. If you follow the same steps above as a member, you’ll only remove your account from the plan, but the manager will continue paying for it.
How to cancel via third-party provider:
If you pay for your subscription through third-party providers, you can follow these instructions instead.
Cancel via Google
1. Fire up the Google Play app and tap on the icon for the account you use.
2. Go to Payments & subscriptions.
3. Tap on Subscriptions.
4. Find Spotify among your subscriptions and tap on it.
5. Tap on Cancel Subscription at the bottom of the screen, select a reason for cancellation and confirm it.
Cancel via Apple
1. Go to Settings in your iPhone or iPad.
2. Tap on your name and go to Subscriptions.
3. Find Spotify and go through the cancellation process.
Cancel via carrier
Instructions for this may vary, depending on your carrier. Generally, however, you can follow these steps.
1. Log into your carrier account on its website.
2. Find the option to manage your subscriptions under your account.
3. Find Spotify and go through the cancellation process.
What happens after you cancel
You’ll still have access to Spotify’s premium features until your next billing cycle begins. That means you still won’t encounter ads and will have access to offline downloads, as well as unlimited skips and higher audio quality. You’ll be able to access your Spotify library even with a free account, but if you want to find another streaming service to pay for, you can check Engadget’s list of best music streaming services in 2025.
There’s a lot to like about NordVPN, as I covered in my full NordVPN review. It’s one of the fastest among the best VPNs, and it’s got a bunch of cool, specialized servers for various VPN tasks. But the apps can be frustrating, and beyond that, no VPN is perfect for everyone. If you’ve decided NordVPN isn’t for you, here’s how to cancel your subscription and get your money back.
How to turn off auto-renewal on NordVPN
Even though you’ve decided to part ways with NordVPN, you may want to keep your subscription active while you pick out a replacement service. If that’s the case, you can simply cancel automatic renewal and let your subscription expire at the end of the billing period. If you change your mind before then, you can turn auto-renew back on. Here’s how to do it.
Go to my.nordaccount.com. Click Log in to Nord Account and enter your email address and password.
You’ll arrive at the account overview page. In the left-hand column, click on Billing.
On the list of subscriptions that appears, find NordVPN. Find the line that says “Auto-renewal: ON,” and click the Cancel link next to it.
A warning message will appear. Click Cancel auto-renewal at the bottom-right.
This will turn auto-renewal off. If you decide to turn it back on, just go back to the billing tab of your Nord account overview, find your NordVPN subscription and click Enable auto-renewal.
How to cancel if you subscribed through an app store
If you paid for NordVPN on a mobile device through Google Play or the Apple app store, you’ll need to go to the relevant app store to cancel the subscription. On Android, sign in to Google Play, touch your profile picture, tap Payments & subscriptions and tap Subscriptions. Scroll until you find NordVPN, tap it and hit Cancel subscription. If you want a refund, follow the instructions in “How to get a refund from NordVPN” below.
On iOS, open the settings app, touch your profile picture, then tap Subscription. Scroll down to NordVPN, tap it and hit Cancel subscription. To get a refund for an Apple purchase, contact the Apple support team instead of the NordVPN team.
How to delete your NordVPN account
On the other hand, if you’re sick of NordVPN and already have another VPN lined up, you can cancel immediately by deleting your Nord account altogether. This will also cut you off from any other Nord Security products you might be using, including NordPass and NordLocker.
Go to my.nordaccount.com, click Log in to Nord Account and enter your credentials.
At the top-right of the account overview page, click your email address. In the dropdown menu, click Account settings.
Look at the bottom of the page to find the account deletion controls. Click Delete account.
Nord will send an authentication code to your account’s email address. Enter it.
Follow the onscreen prompts to confirm deletion.
How to get a refund from NordVPN
NordVPN has a standard 30-day money-back guarantee. As long as you bought your subscription in the last 30 days, you can get a full refund. To do so, you’ll need to first cancel auto-renewal on your plan as described above, then contact support to ask for the refund.
You can reach NordVPN support by going to the help center at support.nordvpn.com. To reach the live chat and email ticket options, you’ll need to work your way down to a bottom-level help center article, then scroll down until you reach the section titled “Still having issues?” It’s frustrating, but you can get there by just clicking the first link on every page (or just follow this link and scroll down).
Once you’ve found the buttons, either start a live chat or open the email form. Whichever you choose, explain that you’ve cancelled your subscription and would like a refund. Make sure not to end the interaction until you’ve received confirmation that your refund will be processed. Afterwards, it’ll take up to 10 business days for your reimbursement to go through.
NordVPN alternatives
With NordVPN cancelled, you may be in the market for another VPN. I’ve collected several on my best VPN list (linked at the start of the article), but here’s a few specific recommendations: Proton VPN is the best overall, Surfshark is the fastest and ExpressVPN is good for beginners and great at streaming. Good luck in your quest for a VPN that meets your needs.
Proton VPN currently tops my list of the best VPNs, and I gave it a glowing recommendation in my detailed Proton VPN review. It’s easy to use, fast, cheap and secure, with a large server network and one of the industry’s best scores at unblocking streaming sites. All that said, there’s no such thing as a perfect VPN, and you may find that Proton isn’t working for you. If that happens, here’s how to cancel your subscription.
How to cancel Proton VPN through a browser
If you initially signed up less than 30 days ago, you can cancel your subscription and request a refund by contacting tech support. See “How to get a refund from Proton VPN” below for details. If more than 30 days have passed, use the following steps to cancel your subscription.
Open your browser and go to protonvpn.com. At the top-right, click Sign in, then enter your username and password. You’ll be taken to your account dashboard.
At the left side of the dashboard, click the Subscription tab.
Scroll all the way down to the section labeled Cancel subscription. Click the “Continue” button.
A pop-up window will appear, asking if you’re sure. Click Cancel subscription.
Cancelling this way doesn’t immediately terminate service — it just means your subscription won’t auto-renew. You can still use Proton VPN’s paid features, including the entire server network, until the current period expires. After that, you’ll be automatically downgraded to the free plan. During this time, your account dashboard will still be active, so you can use it to turn renewal back on if you change your mind.
This method also works in mobile browser apps. Just follow the same steps on your mobile device and you’ll cancel in the same way, with service continuing until your subscription expires.
How to downgrade from Proton Unlimited to Proton VPN only
A Proton Unlimited subscription applies to all Proton products. Since it’s mainly founded on Proton Mail, though, downgrading to VPN service only is tricky and requires some extra steps.
First, downgrade Proton Unlimited to Proton Free from your main account dashboard. Log in at account.proton.me, then click Settings, All settings, Dashboard and Your plan. Under “Proton Unlimited,” click Explore other Proton plans. On the next page, select Proton Free. This will effectively cancel Proton Unlimited, though you can still use it until the end of the pay period.
Finally, go to the Proton VPN website (not the overall Proton site) and sign up for a Proton VPN Plus plan. Since you downgraded instead of deleting your account, you should be able to use the same account address.
How to delete your Proton account on mobile
You can also use the mobile app to delete your entire Proton account, instantly and irreversibly ending your subscriptions to Proton VPN, Proton Mail and any other products in the line. Taking this action permanently burns your Proton username, so you won’t be able to use it again if you decide to re-subscribe (in that case, you’ll just have to make a new one).
The process is the same on both Android and iOS — the apps have slight cosmetic differences, but everything is in the same place. Follow the steps below to nuke your Proton account from orbit.
Open the Proton VPN app on your Android phone.
Click Settings at the bottom of the window.
At the top of the settings page, click your account email address. This will take you to Account settings.
Click Delete account. A window will open in your web browser, showing your general Proton account page.
Scroll down to the bottom of this page and click the red Delete your account button.
Select a reason for deleting your account and leave feedback in the box provided. You have to pick an option from the menu and type at least 10 characters in the box, though feel free to keyboard mash if you don’t want to say anything.
Check the box on the next page beside “Yes, I want to permanently delete this account and all its data.” Finally, click the red Delete account button.
How to get a refund from Proton VPN
Proton VPN has a 30-day refund policy. As long as you paid for your VPN less than 30 days ago, you can get your money back. To request a refund, send a message through the contact form on the website. You can also email protonvpn@support.zendesk.com.
There’s a minimum of 100 characters in the “What happened?” box. Unlike when you’re simply deleting your account, I do recommend putting a brief real answer here, clearly stating that you would like to cancel your account and receive a refund.
According to its terms of service, Proton will only refund you for the portion of the service you didn’t use. If you spend $10 for a one-month subscription and cancel after 15 days, you’ll get $5 back. The terms do state that the company “may also provide you with a full refund upon request” — directly asking for such a refund in your contact form makes this more likely.
If you cancel after 30 days are up, you may still be able to get a prorated payment for your remaining time, either in cash or account credit. You’ll have to ask for this specifically, as the default option is that your account just stays active until it runs out.
What to do if you subscribed through an app store
If you bought your Proton VPN subscription through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, then Apple or Google processed your money and you’re subject to their refund policies.
If you subscribed through Apple, go to your Apple ID profile in iOS settings, click on Subscriptions, scroll to Proton VPN and click on Cancel subscription. You’ll then get the opportunity to request a refund.
On Android, log into the Google Play Store, click on your profile picture, then click Manage subscriptions. Find Proton VPN, click Cancel subscription and provide a reason. As with iOS, the steps will walk you through the refund process.
Proton VPN alternatives
Once you’ve fully cancelled Proton VPN, you may be in the market for an alternative. I recommend a few of my other favorites, depending on why Proton didn’t work for you. Surfshark is faster, ExpressVPN has some of the best app design and NordVPN has a wider range of interesting features.
