    What started with a phone call to a radio show in Frederick, Maryland, turned into a death investigation.

    What started out as a phone call to a D.C.-area radio show Friday turned into a death investigation in Frederick, Maryland.

    Several media outlets reported a man called DC 101.1’s “Elliot in the Morning” show and told hosts that they found a body in the woods.

    The caller, only identified as “Joseph,” said they’d found the body 18 days before, located near a campsite.

    “This may sound sick, but I’ve always wanted to come upon something like that,” the caller said, describing that the area where the body was found had once been part of a “tent city” that had since been shuttered.

    He told the show he hadn’t called police, which hosts of the show said he needed to do.

    “Dude, call the police,” Elliot Segal said.

    Frederick Police confirmed hours afterward that investigators found a body in a wooded area near East Street and Carroll Creek Crossing. At the time, officials said there was “no threat to the public.”

    In a statement to WTOP, Frederick police said that, as of Sunday, “identification and cause of death have not yet been confirmed.”

  • Teenager arrested for series of Roseville vehicle arsons, police say

    A 16-year-old boy was arrested on Thursday in connection with several vehicle fires near a Roseville park in October, according to the police department. Roseville police said officers were dispatched just after midnight when a caller near Angus Road reported hearing a loud bang coming from their vehicle and seeing a figure next to it. The caller could see a flame coming from inside their vehicle and a window broken out.”It was just seeing the fire, hearing the pops. I didn’t know what was going to explode and catch another car on fire. I mean, it was such a scary moment,” said Soraiya Smida.Soraiya Smida told KCRA 3 that her husband Pat Smida’s Tesla was the car that was set on fire early Thursday morning. Smida added that he has only had the car for three months. Officials said officers were able to catch the suspect as he was running away. Roseville police said investigators carried out a search warrant at the teenager’s residence and found evidence connecting him to five vehicle arsons over 10 days. The series of arsons began on Oct. 13 and all occurred near Bill Hughes Park and were within walking distance of each other.KCRA spoke to Anthony Savio, another arson victim. His BMW was set on fire on Oct. 19.”I heard a bunch of pops that sound really similar to the truck that caught on fire earlier on my street. I looked down, and all you could see was smoke, and I’m the only car that was parked there. My roommates were real quick, and I was like, ‘Oh, my car is on fire.’ And then I ran outside and we called the cops, and they came, and they actually said that my car was the second car that got lit that night within like 20 minutes,” said Savio. Savio is now left footing the bill for a new car. He told KCRA that the car wasn’t insured and he was getting ready to move to Los Angeles this month.”You ruined people’s lives. I mean, you’re too young to know what’s going on, but these are literally people’s things, especially in these tough times in people’s lives, you know? And you ruined them. That poor guy, who had his car almost paid off, had no insurance and lost it all. I mean, this didn’t have to happen,” said Pat Smida.The 16-year-old boy was booked into Placer County Juvenile Hall for arson.     Fullerton police say man called 911 on himself, succeeded in ‘suicide by cop’

    Fullerton police said Monday that a man they killed last month appeared to provoke the incident in an effort to die.

    On June 15, police said they responded to a 911 call urging the department to send multiple officers to deal with a man who threatened the caller and others with knives on Imperial Highway.

    When officers arrived, they found a man who matched the caller’s description holding what appeared to be two knives, according to police.

    Officers told the man — later identified as 27-year-old Lorenzo Roger Hills III of Brea — to drop the weapons, but instead he ran at them with the knives in hand, prompting officers to fatally shoot him.

    On Monday, police said they recovered two knives and a cellphone. Upon investigation, police said the phone was registered to Hills and was the same one used to make the initial 911 call.

    “It is believed Mr. Hills intentionally provoked a deadly police encounter, commonly referred to as ‘suicide-by-cop,’” the department said.

    Police on Monday released body camera video that shows Hills running toward officers, who shoot him before he nears them.

    Police also released a recording of the 911 call, in which the caller gives his name as Antonio. After the caller reports a mentally ill man wielding knives, the dispatcher tells the caller she’ll remain on the line with him until officers arrive.

    The caller responds that he may have to go, but then doesn’t after the dispatcher tells him he must stay on the phone so officers know exactly where the knife-wielding man is.

    Before officers arrive, the caller says, “My phone is cutting …” and the line goes dead.
