  • 30 Items the Fall 2023 Runways Practically Forced Me to Buy

30 Items the Fall 2023 Runways Practically Forced Me to Buy

    [ad_1]

Most Wanted is a weekly series in which one editor, staffer, or influencer shares their top 30 must-haves or current wish-list items.

I look at clothes for a living, attending press previews of future collections, test-driving popular pieces, and scouring every brand’s new arrivals section on the daily, and somehow, I manage not to succumb to my desire to actually buy them all. Fashion week, though, is a whole other story. And after seven days of nonstop fashion stimuli, I’m giving in to temptation and shopping to my heart’s content—or rather, my credit limit.

Though I’m hardly finished studying the contents of the collections I just witnessed debut, I do have a pretty strong grasp on the items that made the loudest splash throughout the last week in New York, from the color red’s dominance on the runways (as well as the streets outside) to the abundance of bows, alluring hosiery, artistic jewelry and hardware, among other dangerously pretty things. So, without further ado, bare witness to my post-fashion week shopping list, aka 30 items I simply can’t resist after watching the first of next fall’s collections unveil, by scrolling down below.

    [ad_1]

Fashion week, more than any other week of the year—apart from, well, the other fashion week six months later—is the time when inspiration is at its most viscous. After seven days of nonstop runway shows, presentations, and previews, it’s almost impossible for outfit ideas and styling methods not to pour out of you—and that’s before you even take into account street style. There’s only one problem: You can’t actually buy what’s on the runways for at least six months, more if you’re waiting for sale prices.

Well, like most things in life, this is one issue that can be easily solved with a trip to Nordstrom. And to prove it, I went ahead and plucked seven trends straight from the fall/winter 2023 runway collections that literally just debuted and sourced market that’s available right this second—no patience required. Keep scrolling to shop all fall 2023’s most viral fashion-week trends, from fishnet tights to metallic pants, at Nordstrom.

  • New Yorkers Are Getting Behind This Shiny Accessory Trend—These Styles Are It

New Yorkers Are Getting Behind This Shiny Accessory Trend—These Styles Are It

    [ad_1]

The trend is definitely alive and well in the luxury-accessory space, as evidenced by pieces like Prada’s ombré Mary Janes, Alexandre Vauthier’s array of metallic boots, and Bottega Veneta’s gleaming woven accessories. Metallics aren’t just limited to silver and gold either. If you love to wear color, opt for pink, blue, or green accessories with a shiny finish. The way I’ve seen most of my fashion friends wearing these chromatic pieces is in trending silhouettes like strappy sandals, slingback heels, shoulder bags, and classic belts

Kate Middleton and Mary-Kate Olsen Agree: This Boot Trend Is Made for Skinnies

    [ad_1]

Skinny jeans will never go “out,” and that’s a fact. Just take a look at any one of the handful of celebrities who seem to cling to the perennial denim staple. Season after season, we turn to these style stars to inform us of the freshest ways to style our skinnies, and according to them, all signs point to one boot trend in particular—riding boots—that just so happen to pair flawlessly with classic skinny jeans.

Kate Middleton has long been a fan of these flat, knee-high boots, and there are plenty of her outfits to get inspired by. They also happen to be approved by Mary-Kate Olsen. (When MK and Ashley wear something cool, you know we’re quick to follow suit.) We spotted riding boots all over the F/W 22 runways from a whole host of brands, such as Brandon Maxwell, Celine, and Tory Burch, so if you’re looking to get in on the trend, there’s certainly no lack of options. Keep scrolling to see how Middleton and Olsen wear the equestrian trend, to see how they’re styled on Instagram, and to shop the best riding boots for yourself.

  • The Most Significant Colors to Wear on International Women’s Day

The Most Significant Colors to Wear on International Women’s Day

    [ad_1]

With the Time’s Up and Me Too movements and the continuing fights for equal pay and healthcare rights for women, International Women’s Day this year will, without a doubt, hold more significance than ever. There are lots of ways to support the cause, e.g., donating time or money to Planned Parenthood, the ACLU, or Time’s Up; and calling your congressperson or senator.

Another easy way to bring awareness to women’s rights is to dress accordingly. There’s no denying the fact that Hollywood’s decision to show solidarity for Time’s Up by wearing black to the 2018 Golden Globe Awards ceremony made a very strong statement, as did the white roses many attendees wore to the Grammy Awards that year. Similarly, the colors you choose to wear—on International Women’s Day especially—undoubtedly will carry an unspoken meaning that’s louder than words.

Read on to learn more about why black and five other colors will have the most impact on March 8, and shop some of our favorite options in each hue.

I’m Certain This Is the Most Valuable Basic: 5 Outfits to Make It Feel Chic

    [ad_1]

Kris Jenner works hard but I’m convinced my white button down works harder. There is not one piece in my closet that single-handedly gets more wear than my white button down shirt. Whether it’s worn over a bathing suit with white linen pants, under a blazer with trousers, or tossed over a tank top and jeans, this piece is so versatile and polished all at the same time.

When we talk about best basics (often), there are a few main pieces that are so necessary including quality T-shirts, well-fitting jeans, tailored suiting, and (my hero piece) the button down. Layering options with a button down are endless, plus it gives an air of effortful dressing immediately, whether or not it was truly an effortful look.

Button downs don’t always have to be stiff and business-like, especially in the times of work from home and hybrid-work environments. I’ve tapped my favorite fashionable Instagrammers for five new button down outfit ideas. Shop my take on their looks below.

  • I Am 99.9% Certain These Will Be the Most Popular Sandals This Summer

I Am 99.9% Certain These Will Be the Most Popular Sandals This Summer

    [ad_1]

Over the past 18 months, we have seen a shift towards practicality in fashion, and this is seen most acutely with footwear. We need our shoes to be able to take us on countless laps of the park without causing us any trouble, so high heels have been universally retired. Fashion brands have for several seasons been bringing us sturdy, responsible shoes—the kind of styles that you’d try to run away from when finding shoes at Clarks in sixth grade. Think T-bar loafers, chunky lace-ups, and fisherman sandals.

The Row and Gabriella Hearst both are adored for their discreet and quiet take on luxury fashion, and although both tend to shy away from anything too flashy or trend-driven, they both have a habit of dictating the silhouettes that we’ll be gravitating towards. Both have created beautiful caged leather sandals in both ivory and black, making the humble fisherman sandal the most sought-after sandal for this summer. Like Tevas, their appeal is that they are practical walking shoes and will go with almost any summer outfit.

The styles by The Row and Gabriella Hearst have been yoyo-ing in and out of stock, however, it is a style that is slowly trickling into the high street too. Zara, always quick to respond to a cult item, has created several fisherman sandals for $70.

Keep scrolling for proof that they really do look amazing with all summer outfits, and then shop our edit of the best pairs.

  • Cult Status: The It Items That Put These 5 Black-Owned Brands On the Map

Cult Status: The It Items That Put These 5 Black-Owned Brands On the Map

    [ad_1]

What constitutes an “It” item in fashion? While some might point to celebrity endorsements, sales, or even of Instagram likes, I wouldn’t use any of those things as measurements. If you ask me, “It” items are those pieces that everyone has silently agreed are the ones to know. They’re the pieces that, when you see someone wearing them, you automatically know they “get it”, kind of like a secret language that we use to communicate our knowledge of what’s cool and exciting to us right now.

While there still isn’t one universal set of benchmarks for defining an It piece, I have a pretty good idea of a few that have earned the title—five items, to be specific.

When the push for racial equity and “buying Black” came knocking on our doors in the summer of 2020, the designers of color behind countless smaller and emerging brands saw an unprecedented spike in attention—and most importantly, sales—that projected their labels to new levels. Flash forward nearly three years and the five names we’re sitting down with today include ones who have taken that moment in time and ran with it, building long-lasting brands out of the success of the “It” items that put them on people’s radar in the first place.

It’s not to say that some weren’t already creating beautiful bags, jewelry, and clothing well before this moment. Mateo’s pearl pieces have been gracing red carpets on the likes of Zendaya and Anne Hathaway since 2016. But for designers like Brandon Blackwood, that summer of 2020 saw the meteoric rise of his “End Systemic Racism” bags that the internet went wild for. So regardless of how, each of these five brands have experienced at least one big breakthrough moment that catapulted them from emerging to It status. Sure, you can argue that a single viral moment doesn’t ensure longtime success, but if there’s one thing I’m certain of, it’s that the designers behind these five brands have that special sauce.

Whether it be celebrity-adored jewelry or gender-obliterating basics, scroll to get to know these five Black-owned fashion brands, the buzzy items you might know them for, and the next It pieces they already have up their sleeves.

Madelyn Cline Just Wore the 2023 Trend That’s Replacing Miniskirts

    [ad_1]

Fashion trends sometimes ebb and flow even quicker than we can track them, but there’s no denying that long denim skirts are usurping minis right now. Just look at Madelyn Cline’s most recent outfit or the slew of street style looks at this year’s fashion weeks in Copenhagen and New York. Yes, I’m aware it’s cold in both of those cities, but that has certainly never stopped the fashion set from wearing whatever they please!

Attending a Tommy Hilfiger dinner in NYC, our January cover star styled the trend with a couple of unfussy wardrobe basics. I adore how her outfit combines trendiness in the form of her denim maxi and pure, unadulterated timelessness via her white button-down shirt and matching pointy-toe pumps. It’s Fashion Week—Meet the One Product We Refuse to Skip This Season

    [ad_1]

Any fashion person will tell you that Fashion Week is the most important time of the year—period. People from all over the globe flock to NYC every February for an extra dose of fashion, luxury, and trends. As you can imagine, preparation for this week’s nonstop excitement includes much more than a stylish outfit, so I tapped my favorite content creator, Isabel Tan, to give me the inside scoop.

When I think of NYC’s It girls, Tan immediately comes to mind. You can find her strolling through the streets of SoHo in a chic outfit, applying the perfect makeup look, or showing us the best products to buy. Tan is headed to all of Fashion Week’s festivities, but not without Viktor&Rolf’s Flowerbomb Eau de Parfum ($142). This ultra-delicate and sensual fragrance is the exact confidence boost we all need for a special time like this. Celeb loved, editor approved, and internet famous, Flowerbomb is known for its warm and floral scent with key notes of jasmine, orange blossom, and patchouli. In short, Tan can expect compliments on her delicious scent (and her killer outfits, of course). Before you rush to buy a bottle for yourself, let’s go behind the scenes of New York Fashion Week with Tan.

I Live in NYC and Walk at Least 5 Miles a Day—These Sandals Make That Possible

    [ad_1]

Despite having grown up in Chicago before moving to New York, I actually really love warm weather. Summer is, without a doubt, my season. And while lounging in the sun, eating outside, and not having to layer are all viable reasons for my loving it so much, there are but two things that make summer the all-time greatest: walking everywhere and wearing sandals

Of course, walking up to 20,000 steps a day can’t be done in just any shoes. For that, you need a pair with cushioning, soft straps that won’t pinch, and heels (yes, I walk in heels) that are made with support in mind. After a fair share of trial and error, I’ve discovered a handful of brands that successfully do all three—and then some.

Banana Republic Is in Its Cool-Girl Era: 28 Pieces Currently in My Cart

    [ad_1]

Just like the rest of the Gen Z fashion crowd, TikTok is my go-to source for all things trends and style. Sure, I get inspiration from the runways and my favorite celebrities, but the real magic happens on the clock app. This month’s conversation the teens are partaking in? Banana Republic, the glossy retailer associated with the mid-2000s, is back, and frankly, much better than it’s ever been.

Over the last few years, brands our mothers used to shop at have made a surprising comeback amongst millennials and Gen Z. Take J. Crew and Puma, whose recent appointments of younger, trendier female CEOs have injected their respective brands with some good ‘ol saccharine energy, revitalizing labels who haven’t seen this much buzz in years. Banana Republic is the latest re-emerging retailer to enter the mix, with edgy, Western-inspired flares and styles that will convert any cool girl. If everyone’s favorite horse girl Kendall Jenner is on your mood board, Banana Republic has you covered. Only time will tell how much footing Banana Republic is going to gain over the next few months, but based on the number of items sold out this month already, I wouldn’t be surprised if it continues to take off for the rest of the year.

Below, shop all of the best Banana Republic pieces I did while on a deep-dive of the site’s new offerings and best-sellers section. Happy shopping!

  • Prediction: These 10 Copenhagen Trends Will Define What Is Cool This Year

Prediction: These 10 Copenhagen Trends Will Define What Is Cool This Year

    [ad_1]

    Photo:

Courtesy of Aeron; Courtesy of TG Botanical; Courtesy of Remain; Imaxtree/Skall Studio; Courtesy of Remain; Courtesy of Saks Potts

Fashion can sometimes feel reductive and repetitive, or at least that’s the perspective one can come to hold after years of following the industry. It can be easy to fall into a sartorial inspiration dry spell when the trends begin to feel repetitive, the production cycle is far too fast to keep up with, and the brands feel inauthentic to their identity. All of this is to say that when you stumble upon something that feels new, it’s like a reawakening of one’s entire perspective.

And that’s very much the case, for me at least, when it comes to Copenhagen fashion week. While it’s a privilege to attend and report on shows in general, something about being able to travel with CIFF to attend the fall/winter 2023 shows in this Danish capital was something else entirely. It opened up the world to me, quite literally. With that opening, I discovered new brands, spotted street style trends, and experienced firsthand why Copenhagen has become the world’s coolest fashion capital.

That newly minted status very much has to do with the fact that some of the buzziest brands in the industry are coming from this Danish capital. But it also relates to the Scandi set’s renewed approach to clothing. From choosing to produce in a more sustainable way to creating trend-forward pieces that can transcend time to staying true to their brand’s aesthetic, this community has changed the way, we look at fashion. But you don’t have to take my word for it. Ahead, I’ve highlighted ten major trends from CPHFW’s F/W 23 collections. If these can’t break you out of a clothing-related rut, nothing will.

Anthropologie is usually my first stop for decor needs (I can’t resist their mugs and eclectic candle holders) but lately, it’s their clothing and accessories that has been drawing my attention. While the brand is known for it’s bohemian-chic aesthetic, they’ve recently curated a more versatile collection by adding modern and trendier pieces into the mix. The first find that caught my eye was the $128 braided slouchy tote bag that hit virality on TikTok. Soon, I found myself many pages deep into the new arrivals section with a growing wishlist. Think free-flowing dresses, statement jewelry, and more expensive-looking handbags.
