  • I’m Going on a 3 Week European Vacation—All The Cute Clothes I’m Shopping

I’m Going on a 3 Week European Vacation—All The Cute Clothes I’m Shopping

    [ad_1]

Each year, I stockpile my time off into one big trip just at the start of the summer. This year I’m setting off in early June: the flights are cheaper, cities are less overrun with tourists, and the heat hasn’t fully set in like the unbearably blistering months of July and August. My entire vacation involves a 3-week trip traversing around Europe. Paris and London will be my main stops, but I’m letting my intuition and spur-of-the-moment vibes dictate the rest. Needless to say, a trip this long requires a lot of clothes, especially if you can’t necessarily count on laundry access. It’s also a good excuse to shop for cute things: I finally have carte blanche to buy all of the linen, crochet, and sandals pieces that have been on my mind for the past month.

Since my travels seem to perfectly align with everyone else on my feed (I’ve already seen the Positano and Mallorca Instagram geotags coming in), chances are this list will be relevant for you too. Keep scrolling below for a rundown of all of the items I’ve added to my cart.

  • I Just Found Every Trend I Need For Summer in Nordstrom’s Half-Yearly Sale

I Just Found Every Trend I Need For Summer in Nordstrom’s Half-Yearly Sale

    [ad_1]

One of Nordstrom’s biggest sales of the year is happening right now, and we Who What Wear editors are taking full advantage of it. I, for one, am shopping for summery, trend-forward items (in addition to the usual basics I’m always shopping for). And don’t you just love it when you find some of the forthcoming season’s biggest trends on sale before said season even begins? I certainly do, especially right now since we have a good three long months of summer ahead. That brings us back to the subject of Nordstrom’s big Half-Yearly Sale.

I scoured the sale through the lens of summer trends and found seven, in particular, that were most plentiful among the sale offerings. These easy, wearable trends are probably ones that are already on your radar. Keep scrolling to shop my favorite version of each trend while the sale is still on (through June 4, so hurry).

  • You’d Never Guess the 5 Unexpected Pieces That Cool French Women Own In 2023

You’d Never Guess the 5 Unexpected Pieces That Cool French Women Own In 2023

    [ad_1]

I recently decided to spend a month in Paris which led me to realize that even though I’ve dedicated my entire career to the topic of fashion, there is always still so much to learn. Parisians have a way of approaching personal style that is superior to anything that I’ve seen amongst the general population back home in the states. And most importantly, Instagram doesn’t tell the full story. Based on what I saw while scrolling, I packed for my trip thinking I would be dressing in minimalist staples the entire time. Boy was I wrong. Being introduced to the new cool girl brand on the block, Mirae Paris is what ended up changing it all.

Mirae Paris is a brand that speaks to the rhetoric that French fashion is nothing like what we think it is. Their pieces are filled with loud colors, bold prints, fringe, and embellishments—a scroll through their site left me with many questions about French fashion. During my recent trip to Paris, I sat down with the brand’s Founder + CEO, Camille Jarmon and Creative Director, Maya Chantout, to find out how they define Parisian style.

  • I Just Popped Into Saks—These Summer Finds Are So Good It’s Stressing Me Out

I Just Popped Into Saks—These Summer Finds Are So Good It’s Stressing Me Out

    [ad_1]

Welcome to Let’s Get a Room, a series where editor Eliza Huber heads to the dressing room to try on pieces from your favorite retailers, buzzy items, and new collections. Think of this column as a detailed guide to the pieces that are actually worth buying and the ones that, unfortunately, looked better online—no returns necessary.

I spend a lot of my time shopping in New York City, but there are certain stores I have to keep myself from stepping foot inside in order to keep my bank account in the green. One such place is Saks Fifth Avenue, a staple of the NYC shopping scene where finances go to die, not necessarily because everything’s pricey, but because it’s all utterly irresistible. Alas, sometimes you have to break your own rules. Or at least, that’s what I’m telling myself given that I did, indeed, walk into Saks this week and subsequently spent a total of three hours scouring the store’s seemingly endless offering.

Naturally, with a selection as good as the one at Saks, I couldn’t possibly just look at my favorite pieces from the bunch. I had to try them on, too. So, to make the damage more worthwhile, I decided to turn my shopping experience into the latest installment of my monthly column Let’s Get a Room. That way, I can use work as an excuse for my reckless behavior and everybody wins. Without further ado, scroll down to see and shop every item I tried on at Saks Fifth Avenue, from the SKIMS tee I need in every single color to the white trousers from Staud that will no doubt become my most-worn summer fashion item.

Off the Charts: The 9 Summer Micro-Trends That are Going Absolutely Viral

    [ad_1]

Here at Who What Wear, we focus a lot of our energy on the biggest trends of the season, and while we’ll never stop covering the heavy hitters, there are several micro-trends worthy of honorary mentions. These aren’t making major style moves yet, but we firmly believe that it’s only a matter of time until they graduate from micro to macro or, in other words, from niche to mainstream.

After hours of studying the runways and, of course, online shopping (all in the name of research!), we’re sharing the micro-trends on our radar at the moment. We’ve spotted these pieces on the feeds of the most influential women we know and stocked at several key retailers, which tells us that each is on the brink of becoming huge. Keep reading for fashion’s most exciting micro-trends of summer 2023, from the cool takes on crochet that every It girl will be wearing on vacation to the simple but outfit-making cuff bracelets that have all our editors in a tizzy.

What bubbles to the top of your mind when you think of summer trends? So often, this time of year is associated with specific trend categories—e.g., sandals, swimwear, and dresses. And while there’s nothing wrong with wanting to know what the coolest shoes for the summer are, in a rush to focus on those more seasonal trends, we often forget that there are other fundamental wardrobe items worth our attention (ahem, tops). Don’t get me wrong; I love an outrageous trend just as much as the next girl. But I also know that the key to building a solid wardrobe, saving money, and being more sustainably-minded lies in investing in pieces you’ll wear daily.

If you clicked on this story, you have also realized that no trend is worth adopting unless you can style it with the staples already in your closet. And that’s even more true when thinking about top trends for the summer. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve bought a cute top for the summer, only to realize it’s challenging to style, can’t be worn to work, or will likely be out of style by next summer—it’s not a great experience. So to prevent it from happening again (for myself and others), I’ve done hours of research to identify the six best summer top trends.

Based on scouring the spring/summer 2023 runways and our favorite retailers, I’ve narrowed it down to a solid list of shirts that bridge the gap between being both functional and timeless and trend-forward. So without further ado, here are which top trends are worth adding to your summer wardrobe…

Hot Take—We’re Absolutely Obsessed With These 7 Controversial Summer Trends

    [ad_1]

If there’s one thing I can always count on from my coworkers at Who What Wear, it’s a sartorial hot take. Whenever I walk into the office, I’ve come to expect to get into at least one discussion—be it over an outdoor lunch in Bryant Park or down by the sparkling-water machine in the lobby—about some controversial trend or another. Fishnet tights, visible underwear, pencil skirts—you name it, we’ve broken it down, with one person almost always running to defend a fad that others have sworn never to wear. And trust that this summer’s discussion is well under way.

From The Row, Khaite, and Dear Frances’s now-viral mesh ballet flats that come up at least once a week and will surely lead to a spike in pedicure sales to the see-through clothing that, despite trending on the runways for multiple seasons, still manages to stump even the most advanced dressers, the controversial trends on the table this season at Who What Wear are anything but boring. Scroll down to see (and if you’re daring enough, shop) the 7 we talk about most. Proceed if you dare.

  • It Takes a Lot to Impress Me, But These J.Crew and Nordstrom Items Blew My Mind

It Takes a Lot to Impress Me, But These J.Crew and Nordstrom Items Blew My Mind

    [ad_1]

I’ll be the first person to admit that I tend to err on the picky side. Looking back, I’ve always been this way. And while I’ve grown out of it when it comes to most things, my high standards around all things fashion related has never, ever faltered. Luckily, in my line of work, that’s a plus rather than a demotion, because my tendency to get choosy is exactly what allows me to narrow down the literal millions of garments, shoes, handbags, jewelry items, and more that are currently being offered up on the open market, to just the ones you really need to see

This week, I did exactly that, though instead of sourcing from every which retailer under the sun, I decided to zero in on the two with the best selection so far this summer: Nordstrom and J.Crew. But just blindly take my word for it. Ahead, see me prove my point with the help of 29 linen tops, ballet flats, maxi skirts, wide-leg jeans, sundresses, and more that genuinely blew my mind when I scrolled past them.

It’s finally here, that time of year when you walk around New York City and all you can see is a sea of chic dresses. The warm weather has finally allowed for shorter hemlines and flowy silhouettes to dominate our wardrobe and all I can say is “finally.” You see, I’m one of those people who could live in dresses. They’re easy to style, comfortable, stylish, and just generally make me feel more put together and dressed up.

  • I’m a BIPOC Fashion Editor—7 Colors I Always Wear in Summer

I’m a BIPOC Fashion Editor—7 Colors I Always Wear in Summer

    [ad_1]

Every year, I patiently wait through the other three seasons just for my favorite of them all to finally arrive: Summer. What can I say? I just love everything about the summertime—summer vacations, warm weather, sundresses, beach days, pool days, frozen drinks, and summer Fridays. The list of reasons why summer reigns supreme and holds the title of my favorite season can go on forever. But one of the things I really love about summer is that once it’s here, my wardrobe takes a turn for the colorful. For me, there has always been this unwritten rule about wearing bright clothing during the other seasons of the year. I’m not sure what it is, but I have always felt like you save your brightest and most colorful pieces for the summertime—it just feels right.

As a person of color, embracing different shades that accentuate my brown skin is a top priority when it comes to summer dressing. There are seven colors that I have been seeing on other BIPOC fashion individuals and influencers, and they have been living rent-free in my mind. All seven are bold, fun, chic, and summery, and in my opinion, they look incredible on black and brown skin.

Keep scrolling to see which colors I’ll be wearing all summer long.

While summer dressing often veers on the softer, more neutral side thanks to staples like linen pants, raffia bags, and white maxi dresses, there’s nothing like a bright hue to revitalize any outfit. At Who What Wear, we’re strong proponents of color, mixing and matching the season’s It tones almost as much as we mix our metals. There’s no time quite like summer to experiment with your personal sense of style. If you veer on the basic side year-round like the majority of our editors, consider this your sign to break up with neutrals.

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been noticing more and more of my favorite outfits featuring can’t-miss shades like fiery red, deep fuchsia, and neon green. While they’re living on my favorite editors and influencers, you can find them on the runways from Paris to Milan. If there’s one thing about me, it’s that I can’t resist a runway trend—especially one that works for warm weather.

Below, find seven of the best and brightest color trends to wear this summer and beyond. Mix and match basics straight from your closet with these adorable finds.

An Italian Woman Walks Into Nordstrom—9 Things She Rings Up and 9 She Sets Aside

    [ad_1]

I don’t know about you, but Italian style is all I can think about at the moment. Stylish women in Italy’s cultural capitals like Milan, Florence, and Rome seem to possess an effortlessly cool polish that the internet (and this editor) can’t get enough of. Thanks to the popularity of influencers and designers like Gilda Ambrosio and Amina Muaddi, this particular brand of elevated glam has inspired droves of outfit re-creations by Americans.

As someone who studies Italian style like it’s my job (well, it kind of is), I thought it would be fun to put myself in their shoes for the day and imagine the types of things Italian fashion people would put in their carts when shopping at Nordstrom. While the beloved retailer is often the topic of conversation here at Who What Wear, it have no locations in Europe, despite having plenty of popular Italian staples casually sitting on its site as we speak.

Behold—the ultimate guide to shopping our favorite retailer like a true Italian fashion person, from the items they’d buy to what they’d politely skip.

    6 Outdated Trends We’re Leaving Behind and 6 We’re Wearing in 2023

    [ad_1]

The beginning of a new year is the perfect time to say to yourself, “Out with the old, and in with the new.” While my New Year’s resolutions center around ditching bad habits like too much screen time, I’m also focusing on my wins and losses over the past year. Since I’m a fashion editor, trends are always on the brain, and there just might be a few that I bought into that I’m just not wearing anymore.

I had a feeling my co-workers felt the same way, and I realized we’re just a bit overdue for the annual chat we have about the trends we’re ditching at the start of the New Year. • 5 Jewelry Trends That Will Define Summer 2023—Plus, 5 That Definitely Won’t

5 Jewelry Trends That Will Define Summer 2023—Plus, 5 That Definitely Won’t

    [ad_1]

Last but certainly not least, the final jewelry trend you should keep a watch out for this summer is timepieces. Like all jewelry, one can argue that watches outlast any trend cycle—and in some ways, that’s true. But what one can’t argue is how modern technology has, in some ways, made the watch “dated.” After all, with so many of us relying on an array of devices, from iPhones, laptops, tablets, and to keep up with the times, it can be easy to dismiss the idea of needing a traditional watch too. And yet, we’ve seen, on and off the runway, more and more people wearing watches. For instance, in Michael Kors and No. 21’s S/S 23 collections, we saw models saunter down the runway wearing multiple watches. At the same time, more influencers than ever have been spotted showing off timepieces. And while you still may be thinking, “Watches are timeless, honey.”

Understanding precisely why this trend is poised to take over this summer doesn’t take too much introspection. On the surface level, watches have begun to feel like jewelry pieces—some feature colorful faces, embellishments, and even unique bands that are made from chains or wrap-around. But on a deeper level, I suspect that the fast-moving nature of living in a technological era, with cultural and political upheaval, is leading to this trend’s boon. When times are moving fast,  and the world is constantly changing, we just want to watch the minute hand move slowly by. Being able to relish every second of summertime is something we all secretly desire, and this trend allows us to do just that.

I’ve done my fair share of shopping, but there’s something about Zara and Nordstrom that always keeps me coming back for more. Whether it’s the early introduction to Nordstrom in my early years or the memorable shopping experiences at Zara during high school, these retailers have a strong hold on me. Now, as I spend countless hours online shopping for work, it’s no surprise that a significant portion of that time is dedicated to browsing their new selections.

During my latest browsing session of Zara and Nordstrom’s spring offerings, I couldn’t help but notice something remarkable. In all my years of shopping at these stores, I’ve never seen them both have such an incredible selection at the same time. With spring’s arrival close enough to touch in NYC, I’ve been more than a little bit distracted. It happens every year at this exact time. The days are longer—the weather less blustery—and therefore, I find myself being unable to think about anything else but taking in all the vitamin D that I’ve been denied all winter long. But there are a few things that are even more important, at least for a fashion person such as myself, one of which is Nordstrom, a store I usually inspect on a near-constant basis, but have recently been snubbing due to the nature of my one track mind ahead of the beginning of spring. I’m ashamed to admit that I’ve been slacking. This story is my way of making up for that.

For the past six or so hours, I’ve been scrolling through Nordstrom.com with the ferocity and determination of an internet conspiracy theorist (queue up the Charlie meme from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia). The result? A list of finds I’m still, quite honestly, in shock over. From elevated basics to envy-inducing footwear, there’s a bit of everything in the 41-piece offering below, all of which won’t be leaving my conscious brain anytime soon.
