    One of the bridges commuters use between Sacramento and West Sacramento will shut down over several days for maintenance.The I Street Bridge, built in 1911, will close beginning at 6 a.m. on Oct. 6 for Union Pacific Railroad to complete repairs to the exterior siding of a building on the bridge. All travel across the bridge will be paused during the repair period, including drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians.”I’m wondering, like, how am I going to get to downtown? How am I going to get into that area? Because that’s where everything is. Everything’s popping in that area. So it’s going to be tricky,” said Oskar Castaneda, a West Sacramento resident.The primary alternate route during the closure will be the Tower Bridge. For drivers traveling on I Street from Sacramento to West Sacramento, turn left on 3rd Street and then take a right on Capitol Mall. For drivers traveling from West Sacramento to Sacramento, take 5th or 3rd streets up to Cabaldon Parkway and turn left to get onto the Tower Bridge. Highway 50 is also an alternate route, but there is construction along that stretch that could contribute to slower traffic.Commuters are being encouraged to plan ahead.”That means I gotta wake up 10-20 minutes earlier. That’s not good,” said Michael Wilson, a Sacramento resident expressing his frustrations about the closure.     Middle Thorofare Bridge reopens in Lower Township after being hit by boat

    WILDWOOD CREST, New Jersey (WPVI) — The Middle Thorofare Bridge in Lower Township, New Jersey, was shut down Friday night after it was hit by a boat, according to police.

    Witnesses say a boat struck the bridge around 9:30 p.m. One man was waiting to cross over from the Cape May side when he says it looked like the boat lost power and then struck the bridge.

    Further details on the incident have not been released but Wildwood Crest police say the bridge will be closed until at least 8 a.m.

    Videos shared on social media showed the vessel being removed late Friday night.

    Officials say a 90′ commercial fishing vessel lost power and struck the bridge. It became pinned to the north side of the bridge. That vessel has since been towed away and no crewmembers were injured.

    The bridge was reopened around 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning following a thorough inspection. All operations have resumed.
    The bridge recently reopened after it was shut down for two weeks due to a mechanical issue.

    The bridge connects Lower Township’s Diamond Beach and Wildwood Crest to Cape May.

    An 8-year-old child was found dead Thursday in a vehicle on the Piscataqua River Bridge on Interstate 95 after a man accused in the death of a woman in Troy, New Hampshire, died in a shooting on the bridge with police, officials said.Officials said the incident appears to have started with a man accused of killing a woman at a residence in Troy overnight and then driving to the Piscataqua River Bridge at the Portsmouth, New Hampshire, state line with Kittery, Maine.Police engaged with the man on the bridge in an incident that ended with the man being fatally shot, according to Attorney General John M. Formella and State Police Col. Mark B. Hall. Police on the bridge found an 8-year-old child fatally shot in the man’s vehicle. Officials said there is no threat to the general public at this time. The I-95 Piscataqua River Bridge remains closed in both directions due to the ongoing investigation. Traffic is currently being diverted to the two other local bridges in the area. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes. The Maine Attorney General’s Office is investigating the police shooting incident.The victims’ names have not been released.
