    There could be an undrafted NFL rookie under center for the New York Jets on Sunday afternoon as Brady Cook is taking the first-team practice reps ahead of this weekend’s contests with the Jacksonville Jaguars at EverBank Stadium in Week 15. Cook is expected to receive his first NFL start with a pair of injuries to Tyrod Taylor (groin) and Justin Fields (knee) left the NFL veterans unable to participate in practice this week. In a five-year SEC career at Missouri, Cook completed 66% of his passes for 9,251 yards with 50 touchdowns against 15 interceptions. 

    The 24-year-old QB faces a tough test against a Jacksonville squad on a four-game winning streak. Jacksonville (9-4) has played well at home this season with a 5-2 record and will be looking to keep pace with the Houston Texans (8-5) and Indianapolis Colts (8-5) over the final weeks over the 2025 season in a competitive AFC South divisional race.

    The Jets’ record against the moneyline (3-10) mirrors their record in the NFL during the 2025 season, while New York has produced positive results against the spread (7-6) and over-under (8-5) lines. Jacksonville has provided mostly positive results with a winning record against all the betting lines – spread (8-5), moneyline (9-4), and over-under (7-6). Jacksonville will need to beat New York by more than two touchdowns (-13.5 points) to cover the spread and add to those win columns in Week 15.

    Jacksonville is considered a significant home favorite with a 76% chance of winning on Sunday afternoon according to ESPN Analytics. 

    Best Bet: Breece Hall 70+ rushing yards

    Breece Hall will need to lead New York’s offense with an inexperienced signal caller under center. The Iowa State-product has 877 rushing yards on 201 carries this season, an average of 67 yards per game in 2025.  Hall sits just 123 yards away from his first 1,000-yard campaign in the NFL after he came up six yards shy of the century mark at the end of the 2023 season.

    It won’t be easy to reach 100 yards against Jacksonville’s top-ranked rushing defense. While  Jaguars are susceptible to damage via the passing game as the 22nd-ranked passing defense, Jacksonville has limited opponents to 83 yards on the ground over 13 contests in 2025. Expect the Jaguars to load up the box in an attempt to limit Hall’s production in Week 15.

    New York finishes the season with three of four games on the road as a painful 2025 season slowly comes to a close. Like many NFL teams this season, Aaron Glenn’s squad was bitten by the injury bug which will make the final month of the season difficult. The Jets can still find a way to disrupt the developing playoff races around the NFL with battles against playoff-hopefuls Jacksonville (Week 15), New England (Week 17) and Buffalo (Week 18).

    DENVER — Rookie running back Breece Hall gave the New York Jets a 7-0 lead with a 62-yard touchdown run in the first quarter against the Denver Broncos. It was a classic outside zone play, with Hall taking a toss from quarterback Zach Wilson. Hall’s linemen, left tackle Duane Brown in particular, created a created a crease and the rookie hit the hole with superb acceleration.

    He also received a nice second-level block from wide receiver Denzel Mims, who neutralized cornerback Kareem Jackson on the play. The Jets drafted Hall in the second round because they considered him a home-run hitter. On first-and-10, he hit the longest home run of his young career. He became the first Jets’ player since Thomas Jones in 2009 to score a touchdown in four straight games.

    Hall hit 21.87 mph on the play, per Next Gen, the fastest by any ballcarrier in the league this season. It is also the fastest speed by a Jets ball carrier on any play in the last 5 seasons.

    Breece later suffered an injury to his left knee in the second quarter. He was carted to the locker room and officially ruled out of the game.

    DENVER — Rookie Breece Hall ran for a 62-yard touchdown before leaving with a knee injury and the surprising New York Jets won their fourth straight by beating backup quarterback Brett Rypien and the punchless Denver Broncos 16-9 on Sunday.

    Rookie cornerback Sauce Gardner broke up Rypien’s fourth-down pass into the end zone to Courtland Sutton with just under 2 minutes remaining. Rypien’s final heave in the closing moments fell woefully short of KJ Hamler’s grasp at the goal line.

    The Jets (5-2) are off to their best start since 2010, have their first four-game winning streak since 2015 and already surpassed their win total from last year when they went 4-13. New York also improved to 4-0 on the road.

    Denver starting quarterback Russell Wilson was ruled out 24 hours before kickoff with a pulled hamstring, missing a game for just the fourth time in his 11-year career. But the Broncos, who are last in the league in scoring, fared no better under Rypien, who was making his second career start.

    The Broncos (2-5) lost their fourth straight despite another outstanding defensive performance.

    Zach Wilson was held without a touchdown for the second straight week, but he did enough to lead the Jets to the win despite his pedestrian stats: 16 for 26 for 121 yards.

    Rypien’s only other start was also against the Jets, a 37-28 win at MetLife Stadium in 2020, but he went 24 for 46 for 225 yards and no touchdowns and threw a crucial second-half interception in this one.

    The Jets lost Hall to a left knee injury in the second quarter when he was tackled by Patrick Surtain II and Jonas Griffith after a short run. He was helped off the field and carted to the locker room.

    Coach Robert Saleh said after the game the initial diagnosis for Hall is an ACL injury.

    Hall finished with 72 yards on four carries, including the 62-yard touchdown run in which he hit a top speed of 21.87 mph according to NextGen Stats, the fastest by a ballcarrier this season.

    Rypien’s throw to tight end Greg Dulcich in triple coverage was easily picked off by safety Lamarcus Joyner, whose 27-yard return to the Denver 37 set up Greg Zuerlein’s 33-yard field goal that gave the Jets a 13-9 lead early in the fourth quarter.

    Zuerlein’s 45-yarder as the first half expired sent the Jets into halftime with a 10-9 lead.

    That field goal was into the wind at the south end zone, the same direction that Brandon McManus missed an extra point following Latavius Murray’s 2-yard TD run.

    McManus also missed a 56-yarder with the wind before making a 44-yarder to put Denver ahead 9-7.

    Hall was injured on the next play from scrimmage and was helped off the field and taken to the medical tent on the Jets’ sideline.

    The rookie second-rounder from Iowa State had established himself as a key playmaker for the Jets and was coming off a season-high 116 yards rushing at Green Bay. He leads the Jets with 463 yards and four touchdowns on 80 attempts.

    Sure enough, both teams started out slowly on a windy afternoon. Zach Wilson misfired three times on the Jets’ opening drive that lasted all of 23 seconds, including the punt. The Broncos returned the favor with a 24-second drive on their second possession.

    INJURIES

    Jets: G Alijah Vera-Tucker (elbow) and WR Corey Davis (knee) left in the second quarter, along with Hall. … DL John Franklin-Myers left in the fourth quarter.

    Broncos: RB Mike Boone left in the second with an ankle injury and OLB Barron Browning (hip) let in the third quarter. … RT Cam Fleming went out late in the game with a thigh injury.

    UP NEXT

    Jets: Wrapped up a stretch of three road games in four weeks and return to the Meadowlands next Sunday to face New England.

    Broncos: Fly out Monday to London, where they’ll play the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium next Sunday.
