Does ex husband Tom Brady moving on with Irina Shayk help Gisele Bündchen’s freedom? Here’s what we know

    [ad_1]

Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady‘s separation came as a major shock to netizens across the world last year.  After 13 long years of marriage, the supermodel and the NFL star announced their divorce in 2022, surprising their fans and well-wishers. Ever since the two split, dating rumors have floated around the former couple who share two children together.

While Bündchen has been linked to her jiu-jitsu trainer Joaquim Valente, Brady has been linked to reality television star Kim Kardashian and supermodel Irina Shayk. After several reports, the former football player was spotted getting cozy with Shayk, sparking the dating rumors a massive notch. Here’s how Bündchen is reported to be feeling about the same.

Are Tom Brady and Irina Shayk dating?

According to the pictures obtained by TMZ, Brady and Shayk spent two days hanging out with the quarterback picking the model from Hotel Bel-Air and driving them to his home. The two were all smiles and the model was reported to have only left his place the next morning. Paparazzi pictures also show Brady stroking Shayk’s cheek as they sit in his car.

While some reports claim they met in May at the wedding of rich art heir Joe Nahmad and model Madison Headrick, others claim the two were already friends before that. Meanwhile, TMZ claimed that Bündchen is “not happy at all” about her ex-husband dating Shayk but a recent report by the portal sees a source close to the model rubbishing these rumors.

How does Gisele Bündchen feel about Tom Brady dating Irina Shayk?

“Why wouldn’t she be happy for Tom? She divorced him. It is helpful to her freedom that he moved on,” the source said. They added that Bündchen and Shyak are not friends, but have known each other professionally from having worked in the same industry for years. The source concludes that the two have been cordial every time they’ve crossed paths.

Meanwhile, Brady has been linked to Kim Kardashian recently but sources claim the two are just friends. Shayk has had two prominent previous relationships with Cristiano Ronaldo and Bradley Cooper. While the model was with the football player from 2010 to 2015, she dated the actor from 2015 to 2019 and has a daughter named Lea De Seine with him. Bündchen and Brady have a son named Benjamin and a daughter named Vivian.

According to reports, Shayk barely “let [Brady] out of her sight” and was “throwing herself at him” during the wedding in May. Brady was also reported to have told the model that he “wasn’t interested” but the rest is now history with the recent images of them surfacing on the Internet. Shayk’s representative slammed the story back then calling it “completely false” and a “totally malicious” account of the star-studded Italian wedding celebration.

  • Bear Grylls goes into the wild with a new batch of celebrities, from Bradley Cooper to Rita Ora

Bear Grylls goes into the wild with a new batch of celebrities, from Bradley Cooper to Rita Ora

    [ad_1]

NEW YORK (AP) — For his latest role, Bradley Cooper leapt onto a hovering helicopter, rappelled down a 400-foot cliff and pulled himself across a 100-foot ravine in one of the harshest climates in North America.

His reward wasn’t an Oscar nomination or a big box office hit. It was a hug from adventurist Bear Grylls and some words of encouragement.

    “He smashed it,” Grylls says.

Cooper is one of several celebrities — including Benedict Cumberbatch, Cynthia Erivo, Russell Brand, Troy Kotsur, Rita Ora, Daveed Diggs and Tatiana Maslany — who put their survival skills to the test in a new season of Nat Geo’s “Running Wild with Bear Grylls: The Challenge,” premiering Sunday.

“I’m really proud of this season. We’ve had incredible guests who pushed the boundaries in terms of terrain and the challenge,” Grylls told The Associated Press. “When there’s real tough weather with fun people, it’s often really compelling TV.”

The series pairs Grylls with a celebrity for 48 hours in a harsh environment. The first day, Grylls teaches key skills — climbing techniques, water-finding tips and fire-setting, among them — and then the guest must do them alone the second day.

Kotsur, who won an Oscar for “CODA,” was tested in the Scottish Highlands, descending 2,500 feet (760 meters) across eight miles (13 kilometers) of harsh terrain and freezing rivers, including a 150-foot (45-meter) rappel down a waterfall. Because Kotsur is deaf, the two men used rope tugs to communicate. Kotsur’s reward: haggis, a Scottish delicacy in which organ meat is put inside a sheep’s stomach and cooked.

Diggs, a city kid, finds himself in the inhospitable Great Basin Desert in Nevada.

“I don’t know how this is going to go and that’s why I’m doing it,” he says. Diggs learns how to use anchor points, track a target and make a signal fire. His dinner is a tarantula.

“It’s not what I was hoping for, I’m not going to lie to you,” Diggs says.

Grylls told the AP the best guests are always those who come with a willingness to go with it, not to look good.

“The wild is so unpredictable and stuff is always happening. You can’t look cool all the time in the wild,” he said.

The show is not just about survival. Grylls’ guests usually open up and show a different side. Ora talks about her ties to Kosovo, Cooper seems unfazed eating mule deer tongue and Cumberbatch reveals stories about his grandfather. Over a campfire, Grylls goes deeper than many TV interviewers.

“It’s as much about the stars and their own personal journeys and struggles and battles as it is about the adventure and the places,” he says. “I think that combination works well because it doesn’t feel like a performance, like a chat show does, where you’re dressed up and made up and you get three minutes.”

Cumberbatch is taken to the Isle of Skye, where his grandfather trained as a submariner. He learns how to use climbing talons and how to tie an Italian hitch knot.

“It’s not the same as doing a stunt on a Marvel film. It’s a lot more real,” Cumberbatch says. His meal is seaweed and limpets — “Definitely al dente,” he jokes — and his bed is a wet field.

Ora arrives at the Valley of Fire in Nevada following a 15,000-foot (4,570-meter) skydive, learns a chimney climb, butchers a dead pigeon, sacrifices her lip balm to make a fire and uses a sock to soak up water. She and Grylls even dance on a rock ledge, casting their shadows tall.

“The wild strips us all bare, doesn’t it?” Grylls told the AP. “It’s like a grape when you squeeze us, you see what we’re made of. And that’s always the appealing part of ‘Running Wild’ — getting to know the real people.”

One commonality among the guests is that viewers will often hear it was the celebrity’s parents who instilled in them a sense of adventure and testing themselves.

“It’s a reminder just how important parenting is,” Grylls said. “Almost invariably when I ask stars, ‘Where does it come from?’ they go, ‘Oh, my dad was amazing when I was really struggling at school.’ Or, ‘My mum was just such inspiration holding down three jobs.’”

“Running Wild with Bear Grylls” is only one of several shows the adventurist is juggling. On TBS this year, he debuted “I Survived Bear Grylls,” a competition series that bridges the survival and game show genres by having regular contestants recreate some of Grylls’ stunts — like digging through poop or drinking urine. Younger fans can also enjoy “You vs. Wild,” an interactive Netflix show that asks viewers to choose how Grylls will make it out of the wilderness alive.

“I’m not going to be doing these shows forever but hopefully having an adventurous spirit and knowing the value of great friends and the power of a never-give-up attitude in the world — hopefully those things will keep going,” the 49-year-old said.

He seems to have tapped into something deep in the human DNA — a need to be able to start a fire, use tools and master the wild. But Grylls thinks it’s more than that.

“I really believe it’s a state of mind. We don’t have to be in the wild to live an adventurous life,” he said. “It’s how we live our life, how we approach our work, our relationships, our dreams, our aspirations, our interactions with people. Are we leaning on the adventure side? Are we always pushing the boundaries, taking a few risks?”

  • Bradley Cooper Told This Lie To Land A Role On ‘Sex And The City’

Bradley Cooper Told This Lie To Land A Role On ‘Sex And The City’

    [ad_1]

Bradley Cooper may be one of Hollywood’s most bankable leading men today, but in the early days of his career, he wasn’t above stretching the truth a bit if it helped him land a job.

Appearing on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live” last week, fellow actor Cynthia Nixon recalled Cooper’s appearance on a Season 2 episode of “Sex and the City” that aired in 1999. In what was reportedly his first on-screen role, Cooper played Jake, a fleeting love interest for Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw.

As Nixon noted, the scene required Cooper to drive a vintage sports car with a manual transmission ― something the future “Silver Linings Playbook” actor hadn’t quite mastered yet.

“He told them he knew how to drive a stick because it was his first job and he was desperate to get it,” Nixon said. “And then the time came for him to pull out, and he was like, ‘I don’t know how to drive a stick.’”

Check out Cynthia Nixon on “Watch What Happens Live” below.

Speaking to Backstage in 2012, Cooper himself fessed up to the fib, saying that although he’d brushed up on his skills at a New York driving school shortly before filming the episode, he still had a tough time on the road.

“I thought it went well when I learned on a Volkswagen, but then I was driving a 1962 Porsche convertible where the clutch was as if I was driving a bus,” he said. “And I had Sarah Jessica Parker in the passenger seat.”

With a bit of extra practice and some assistance from a stand-in, Cooper was able to complete the scene ― and the experience helped cement his passion for acting.

“I felt the same way I did when I first went onstage and performed,” he said. “I went, ‘I feel at home here.’ It was 2:30 in the morning, they blocked off 14th Street in Manhattan, and there were, like, a hundred people screaming for Sarah Jessica. I was like, ‘This is the imaginary world that I love watching in theaters.’ I loved it.”

Cooper, of course, was just one of many “Sex and the City” guest stars who went on to achieve major success in television and on the big screen.

Long before he was Roger Sterling on “Mad Men,” John Slattery had a multi-episode arc in the show’s third season as a Manhattan politician with a penchant for golden showers. Similarly, actors Murray Bartlett and Jennifer Coolidge ― both of whom have since won Emmys for HBO’s “The White Lotus” ― popped up in memorable roles in Seasons 4 and 6, respectively.

Obama Production Company Greenlights Action Film About Badass Drone Seeking Revenge On Yemeni Wedding

    [ad_1]

LOS ANGELES—Announcing their first major theatrically released project, the production company launched by Barack and Michelle Obama greenlit an action film Friday about a badass drone seeking revenge on a Yemeni wedding. “The film follows a retired ex-military drone who just wants to be left alone, until Uncle Sam comes knocking to call it in for one last mission to take out the Yemeni wedding that wronged the drone in the past,” said former President Barack Obama, describing how excited he felt from the moment he read the “kick-ass” script, noting that he had never seen anything so hardcore. “The drone takes no prisoners, eviscerating every civilian wedding in its path to get to the Yemeni bride, groom, and wedding party that had killed its drone wife back in the day. The movie is just a bunch of fun; audiences are going to go crazy for the rooftop chase scene in which the drone pursues a 7-year-old flower girl and vaporizes her at the last second. It’s incredible to be producing a film that is so bombastic and crazy, but still reveals a truth about life.” At press time, Obama revealed that Bradley Cooper would be voicing the drone.

‘Sex And The City’ Producer Reveals The Fib That Bradley Cooper Told To Land A Role Opposite Sarah Jessica Parker

    [ad_1]

    By Brent Furdyk.

Before becoming an Oscar-winning mega-star, Bradley Cooper was just another struggling actor in search of role in New York City.

Cooper’s first-ever screen credit, in fact, was playing a guy named Jake who makes a botched attempt to woo Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw in a 1999 episode of “Sex and the City”.

In the scene, Carrie and bestie Stanford Blatch (the late Willie Garson) are out on a drunken bender. After Stanford bails, she winds up drunkenly dancing with an equally intoxicated guy, played by Cooper, who asks if she wants to take a ride in his sports car. She agrees, only to walk home by herself when he stops for cigarettes and a glimpse of a wildly unflattering photo of herself on a magazine cover sobers her up.

“SATC” writer and director Michael Patrick King discussed the scene during a recent appearance on the “And Just Like That…The Writers Room” podcast, revealing that Cooper told a white lie to land the role — and said lie resulted in a bit of spontaneous script alteration.

“Bradley Cooper — first job — said he could drive a stick to get the job because the character drove a Karmann Ghia,” King said.

“Four in the morning, another Friday outside 14th Street and I said, ‘Bradley, this is where you drive, you take off.’ And he goes, ‘I can’t drive a stick,’” King continued.

James Gunn Says Rocket’s Origin Story In ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3’ Is ‘Just Chilling’

    By Corey Atad.

The final “Guardians of the Galaxy” movie is going to get dark.

In a new Rolling Stone article about the third film in the Marvel franchise, director James Gunn  shared that Rocket Raccoon’s origin story will finally be revealed.

The writer-director shared that among the ensemble of characters in the film Rocket, voiced by Bradley Cooper, is the one he relates to “a very core level.”

“I was always a kid that didn’t quite belong in the group,” he said. “I was a punk rock kid, but I totally didn’t see everything the way [punks] saw it. Rocket had his own traumas early on. And the way he learned to deal with them was kind of being tougher than leather and mean and angry. And that came in response to the things that you learn happened to him in volume three.”

Gunn also praised Cooper’s work on “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” and teased the darkness that’s in store for the character as his origins come to light.

“This is the best he’s ever been,” he said of Cooper’s performance. “There’s some stuff in there that’s just chilling.”

Talking about other aspects of the film, Gunn shared how he was caught off guard by the ending of “Avengers: Endgame” in 2019, which saw Thor venturing off with the Guardians, a plot point that classed with the “Vol. 3” script he’d already written.

“They chose to have that ending in editing,” he says. “And I didn’t think it was gonna be in there. ‘Endgame’ came out right after I decided to do ‘Guardians’ again. So I didn’t have much say in what was in ‘Endgame’, and then it came out and then I was like, ‘What the fuck am I gonna do?’”

In the end, the day was saved by Taika Waititi’s “Thor: Love & Thunder”, which ran with the Thor/Guardians team-up and concluded that storyline.

“To be completely honest, Thor was never going to be in this movie,” Gunn said. “Taika took a bullet for me. Because I was not going to have him in. I was just gonna start up and there’s no Thor.”

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” opens in theatres May 5.

  • Irina Shayk and Bradley Cooper Are Reportedly Trying For a Second Child

Irina Shayk and Bradley Cooper Are Reportedly Trying For a Second Child

    [ad_1]

Bradley Cooper has always managed to stay relatively tight-lipped on his relationship with model Irina Shayk, and in 2019, People confirmed that the couple had officially broken up. Since they share a child, they’ve obviously remained in contact over the years since, especially during lockdown. In the summer of 2022, it was rumored that they were considering getting back together, and maybe even expanding their family.

Here, a breakdown of the couple’s private four years together, and the suspected rekindling.

April 2015: Cooper and Shayk were first spotted together by sleuths for Page Six, who saw the new couple at a performance of Finding Neverland on Broadway. At the time, a source told the paper that it was “a friendly relationship—for the time being.”

A few days later they attended the Vanity Fair-Bloomberg White House Correspondents’ Dinner party in Washington D.C. but reportedly “kept any obvious flirting to a minimum.”

Both Cooper and Shayk had recently come out of long-term relationships. In January, Shayk split with her boyfriend of five years, soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo, after rumors of Ronaldo’s infidelity became public, while Cooper had ended his two-year relationship with actress Suki Waterhouse in March.

May 2015: The first official photos of the couple came the following month when paparazzi found the pair strolling around New York City arm in arm.

Both Cooper and Shayk attended the Met Gala early in the month, though they arrived and left separately from the high-profile event. Still, Page Six spies reportedly saw them “making out” until the wee hours of the morning at Rihanna’s after party at a nightclub in Manhattan.

A week later the new couple seemed much more comfortable with their P.D.A. as they were photographed kissing in the daylight hours on the streets of London.

June 2015: In June, the couple made their Buckingham Palace debut at a dinner for The Prince of Wales’ Charitable Foundation hosted by Prince Charles. According to Us Weekly, Cooper and Shayk were a little confused over what fork to use during the meal, but that didn’t stop them from enjoying the evening together. A source told the magazine, “Irina is smart and mature. They have a great connection. Bradley needs a girl who can keep up with him.”

August 2015: Later that summer, the couple took a romantic vacation to the Amalfi Coast in Italy, where they were photographed gazing into each others eyes on a rocky beach. If there were any doubts left over their relationship, these photos quickly put them to rest.

September 2015: Shayk met Cooper’s mother, Gloria Campano, over Labor Day Weekend in 2015 as the trio hung out on the beach together in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

A week later, Shayk and Campano headed out in New York City for a walk with Cooper’s dog, Charlotte. During this time, a source told E! News, “Irina is just so happy how things are going with Bradley. She adores his mother and they get along great.”

October 2015: While the couple wasn’t prepared to make their relationship red carpet official, they did attend the premiere of Cooper’s film Burnt together, even inviting both of their mothers to come along.

November 2015: The couple took the next big step in their relationship the following month, with Cooper moving into Shayk’s New York apartment. Cooper had previously been checking out apartments in the city, a supposed “bachelor pad,” according to the New York Daily News, but gave up the hunt to move in with Shayk in the West Village.

March 2016: Almost a year after they started dating, Cooper and Shayk made their red carpet debut at the L’Oreal Red Obsession party during Paris Fashion Week. Their appearance during fashion week dispelled some burgeoning rumors that the couple had split, and Cooper had moved on to another supermodel, Naomi Campbell.

A source told Page Six, “Bradley and Irina are both friends with Naomi.”

During Paris Fashion Week, the couple also attended the Opera together for the Arop Charity Gala, where Shayk gave a standing ovation despite everyone else around her being a dud and staying seated.

July 2016: More rumors of trouble emerged after Cooper and Shayk were seen at Wimbledon in London, where the couple appeared to be arguing, causing Shayk to shed a few tears. However, photos of the couple at the match show them looking smiling, happy, and chatting. Shortly after a video of the alleged fight went viral, reports came out that her tears were just the result of hay fever. Naturally!

Later in the month, the couple took another Italian vacation, this time hitting the beaches of Lake Garda.

November 2016: In November, Us Weekly reported that Shayk and Cooper were expecting their first child. The model showed off her ever-so-slight baby bump while walking the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in Paris.

December 2016: First comes a baby, then comes marriage? A new emerald ring on Shayk’s left hand ignited rumors of an engagement to Cooper, but the couple remained mum on any new changes to their relationship.

March 2017: Cooper and Shayk welcomed their first child on March 21, a daughter named named Lea De Seine Shayk Cooper.

July 2017: A few months after becoming parents, the couple took a star-studded vacation to Tahiti with Allison Williams, Anderson Cooper, Andy Cohen, and Diane Von Furstenberg. Further proof that if the couple knows how to do anything, it’s vacation.

October 2017: That fall the new parents headed out in L.A. for a family trip to a pumpkin patch in Los Angeles. Shayk walked the dog while Cooper held Lea in a baby carrier.

January 2018: A few months later, they enjoyed another family outing to Sunset Beach in Los Angeles, where 10-month-old Lea crawled in the sand and sat on her dad’s shoulders while Shayk looked on smiling.

May 2018: The couple made another rare red carpet appearance at the 2018 Met Gala, where Shayk wore the same emerald ring that was spotted on her left hand over a year earlier. Still, neither Cooper or Shayk discussed the engagement rumors.

Later that month, the couple enjoyed a quiet date night, sneaking in a side door for a screening of Solo: A Star Wars Story. Before the film, they spent time mingling with other celebrities like Tiffany Haddish and Ali Hewson.

August 2018: The couple turned the Venice Film Festival into a family affair in August. While Cooper was there to promote A Star Is Born, Shayk and daughter Lea accompanied him, being photographed riding on boats and walking around the city.

October 2018: While press for Cooper’s Oscar-nominated film A Star Is Born was at an all-time high that fall, rumors of a troubled relationship began to circulate. A source told Page Six, “They are miserable together. They have been for months. He doesn’t drink and is into spirituality. She wants to go out.”

December 2018: But rumors be damned! In early December, Cooper showed his support for Shayk, attending the Versace fashion show in New York where the model walked.

A few weeks later the couple looked happy during a family trip to Disneyland. A source told Us Weekly, “They were all smiles and looked like they were having such a fun time. When I saw them, they were leaving Disneyland and heading to California Adventure. He was carrying [Lea]. I was walking in between him and [Shayk], so I saw him look back laughing and gesturing for her to come up next to him.”

January 2019: The couple started off the new year with a red carpet appearance, attending the Golden Globes together on January 6, where Copper was nominated for Best Director and Best Actor for A Star Is Born.

A couple of days later, Shayk also accompanied Cooper to The National Board of Review Annual Awards Gala, where they were photographed seated at dinner together.

February 2019: In early February, Shayk explained the couple’s need for privacy during an interview with Glamour UK.

“I have a lot of friends who share a lot of their personal life on Instagram or social media, very publicly,” she said. “I admire it and I think it’s great—but I think it’s all about personal choice.”

She added: “Because my work requires me to be out there, I just decided my personal life will be quiet. That’s why it’s called personal, because it’s something for you and your family, and I feel happy with it.”

Cooper has also explained why he prefers to keep his relationship with Shayk to himself. During a 2017 interview, Howard Stern asked the actor why he wouldn’t want to flaunt his model girlfriend to the world on red carpets.

“You’re right, it’s so great to take someone you’re with to a place where a hundred people are going to photograph you every step you make and ask you tons of questions, and then rip it apart the next day,” he replied. “No, no, no, no, no.”

Still, the couple’s romance seems to be going strong despite their hectic schedules. Shayk attended the Annual Directors Guild Of America Awards on February 2, and during Cooper’s acceptance speech at the BAFTAs on February 10, he thanked Shayk for “putting up with me.”

“I also need to thank Irina for putting up with me while I was trying to make music in our basement for a year,” he told the audience.

Later at the Oscars, the first hint of scandal emerges, although it is brushed away just as quickly.

Cooper performs “Shallow” with Lady Gaga during the ceremony, and their chemistry-filled duet sparks affair rumors. Both Shayk and Lady Gaga shut them down.

Shayk debunks them through her actions: She hugged Gaga during the show. And a source told Us Weekly days after that Shayk hadn’t been bothered by Cooper and Gaga’s big moment because she knew it was acting. “Irina knows that Bradley and Gaga are artists,” Us’s source said. “It’s a nonissue for her. They were in character putting on an Oscar performance.”

Gaga, meanwhile, tells Jimmy Kimmel that they really were just acting, and it was staged. “Yeah, people saw love, and guess what? That’s what we wanted you to see,” she said. “I mean, this is a love song, ‘Shallow.’ The movie, A Star Is Born, it’s a love story. We worked so hard. We worked all week on that performance.”

April 2019: People reports that after his award season campaign, Cooper has been prioritizing spending time with his family. “Since the awards season ended, Bradley spends every day with his family,” the outlet’s source says. “Most days, Bradley and Irina take Lea out for activities together. Sometimes they just stroll on the beach. Bradley and Irina seem great.”

June 2019: Trouble really starts brewing as the month begins. Page Six is the first outlet to report that Cooper and Shayk are on the cusp of breaking up. “Because of their daughter, they keep trying,” a source says. “Things are not good. Neither one is happy. The relationship is hanging by a thread.”

Then The Sun, E!, and Us Weekly join in.

The Sun reports that Shayk has moved out of the home she and Cooper shared in Los Angeles. A source close to the couple tells the outlet that, “Things are cooling off between Bradley and Irina in a big way. They haven’t been good for a few months and Irina decided it would be best if she moved into her own place. It’s not looking like there’s much long left for the two of them together.”

E! reports that the two have been “questioning” their relationship for a while. “Things get a little bit better but then they find themselves back in the same place of questioning whether being a couple is what’s best,” E!’s source started. “They want to stay together for their daughter, but neither of them are very happy.”

“They’ve spent time apart to test the waters and see if they are better off,” the source continued. “They have a lot invested and it’s very difficult to completely walk away from. They are trying out different arrangements and trying to find their way. They love their little girl dearly and that’s not going to change no matter what.”

Us Weekly is told by a source that “they aren’t calling it quits yet, but they are not in a great place.” But significantly, the outlet reports a source said that Shayk and Cooper’s struggles have “nothing to do with Gaga.” A second source adds that “nothing romantic” happened between Gaga and Cooper when they played each other’s love interests in A Star Is Born.

Finally, People reports on June 6 that Cooper and Shayk are officially done. An insider tells the outlet that the two”are amicably working out how to share custody of their daughter Lea De Seine.”

August 2022: Irina Shayk shared some photos of a family vacation on Instagram, in which she and Cooper are enjoying each other’s company and the company of a bunch of feral pigs.

A source told Page Six, “It was a real family getaway and they are considering getting back together… She would like her daughter to have a sibling.”

The source continued, “They both [Bradley and Irina] haven’t gotten serious with anyone else and they are both into the idea of having a kid… It’s not Bennifer 2.0 where the other person is always in the back of their head, it’s more like, ‘why not?’ They have to deal with each other anyway since they are parents together. They are both thinking, maybe it’s time to finally really settle in.”

The two “get along well and enjoy each other’s company.”

During the previous year, Cooper had been linked to Huma Abedin, while Shayk enjoyed brief flings with Vito Schnabel and Kanye West.

November 2022: In early November, rumors of a reconciliation were stoked even higher by some paparazzi photos of the duo in NYC being described as full of “PDA.”

They are a little handsy in the photos, with Cooper wrapping an arm around Shayk, and Shayk having her hand on Cooper’s behind in one shot. Both their arms are wrapped around each other in another. You can see the photos here.

Later that month, a source told Page Six that Cooper is on board with making another baby together.

“He is on board to expand their family,” said a source. “They are trying to get pregnant.”

However, it seems “marriage is probably not on the table.”

The source added, “Bradley seems to have a European laissez-faire attitude towards the institution.”

Bradley Cooper – Please Don’t Make The Hyperion Cantos

    [ad_1]

You are reading this for the wrong reason. Thus begins Volume Three of the legendary four-part work The Hyperion Cantos, by word wizard Dan Simmons. I quote this line at the outset to emphasize that I have nothing against Bradley Cooper. In fact, I’m a fan who admires him for his guts as an actor and director. I am writing because I believe that a film (or series of films) is the wrong medium for the Cantos and would reduce and constrain our imaginative opportunity. I believe it is a work that

should be left alone as one for the ages to be read (and perhaps listened to, more about which shortly). In a larger sense, my objection invites us to reconsider the question of how medium and story should best fit together.

Allow me to expand. For those of you who don’t know, the Hyperion Cantos is a four-volume saga equal in scope, moral force and sheer entertainment value to The Lord of the Rings. If you haven’t read it, stop and order it right away. It is a virtuoso mashup of hard science fiction, mythology, a profound love story, thoughts about the future of the human/AI relationship, organized religion and more. It is a philosophical tract on what it means to be human, a deep exploration of power and politics, an almost lyrical future military history, a meditation on leadership, art, poetry and more. You get the idea.

I have now read the four volumes from cover to cover twice and keep coming back to their expansive universe with fresh curiosity and unanswered questions. Not all of their meanings can be easily digested in a single reading.

Recently I added listening to reading via the Audible versions of the Cantos. I was mesmerized by the superb artistry of narrator Victor Bevine and his ability to bring complicated characters to life. In reading, one is tempted to rush ahead, to find out what happens next. In contrast, my spoken word experience was more conducive to savoring and reflecting because it slowed down the experience and enabled a different pace of digestion. Most importantly, hearing the voices of the characters allowed room for my imagination while luxuriating in the primal experience of being read to.

Thus I got worried when I heard rumblings of an effort to develop the Cantos into a film(s) at Warner Brothers, driven by no less a member of Hollywood royalty than Bradley Cooper. Having been around the film business and produced a couple of feature films myself, I can certainly appreciate how producers go into heat when they sense a Dune-like epic that can ring the cash registers with multiple sequels, prequels, and spinoffs (not to mention the merch).

But I say don’t do it. Making this film will reduce the impact of this timeless narrative and its characters. Film condenses in a way that can severely constrain the imagination. Let’s first do a bit of simple math, The four books weigh in at 2046 pages. Assuming an average reading pace of a page a minute, we’re talking 34.1 hours of reading. And the Audible versions clock in at a whopping 95 hours! Lots of room for the imagination to take flight. To reflect, digest, learn, weep, rejoice. In contrast, a film occupies somewhere between two and three hours. Draw your own conclusions.

There are times when I want a gifted film-maker to take my imagination along for a ride, regardless of the source material. I’m glad that I read The Lord of the Rings

before seeing the movies, but Peter Jackson’s version stands out as faithful to this beloved work. The current Rings of Power on the other hand travels a lesser road IMHO, sacrificing depth for plot points. And that’s where the risk lies.

Frankly, I don’t want to see the Cantos brought to earth by the latest clever casting decisions involving flavor-of-the-month actors. I don’t want to see Hollywood’s version of massive space battles. I don’t want to see the subtleties of human/AI interaction reduced to digital FX. Film is literally reductive; it’s someone else’s imagination on the screen for you to experience. For example, I read Dune when it first came out. Now I

see Oscar Isaac whenever I reflect on the travails of Duke Leto, and that’s OK for me. When the film craft is good, all is forgiven. When it is mediocre (or the budgets are limited), the imagination suffers.

Leave me alone, Bradley Cooper. This project is too big to have any chance of being faithful to the original. Let me hang out in the Cantos in my own way, warmed by the words of Dan Simmons who ought to someday get a Nobel Prize for narrative imagination. Let me savor characters who have become my friends through Victor Bevine’s narration. Leave me alone with my own imagination to bring the words – written and spoken – to life. I don’t need someone else’s imagination to hitch a ride to this galaxy. Leave me alone. Don’t disempower my imagination. Don’t take away my ability to dream.
