    The Detroit Lions don’t usually chase headlines in free agency, and that’s exactly why Bradley Chubb is interesting.

    With the Miami Dolphins officially moving on from the former Pro Bowl edge rusher, Detroit suddenly has an opportunity to explore a move that fits Brad Holmes’ actual philosophy: buy low on proven talent, manage risk, and let the culture do the rest.

    This isn’t about chasing the name.
    It’s about whether the Lions can weaponize the circumstances.

    The Resume Is Still There

    Chubb’s career arc is complicated, but the production hasn’t disappeared.

    After missing the entire 2024 season due to a devastating knee injury (ACL, meniscus, and patellar tendon), Chubb came back in 2025 and played all 17 games, finishing with 8.5 sacks, the most on Miami’s roster.

    That matters.

    Even more telling? Opposing offenses treated him like a threat anyway:

    • Double-teamed on 23.1% of his pass rushes (a career high)
    • Posted a 10.5% pressure rate, the third-best of his career

    The sack total wasn’t elite, but the attention he commanded absolutely was.

    Why Miami Let Him Go (And Why Detroit Can Pounce)

    This move isn’t about performance — it’s about math and timing.

    Chubb was scheduled to carry a $31 million cap hit in 2026, turns 30 in June, and has now torn the ACL in both knees during his NFL career. For a rebuilding Dolphins team, that’s an easy (if painful) decision.

    For Detroit? That contract is gone.

    What’s left is a player who:

    • Has two double-digit sack seasons on his résumé
    • Just proved he can stay healthy for a full season post-injury
    • Was a team captain and locker-room leader
    • Won Miami’s local media “Good Guy” award for professionalism

    That checks a lot of Lions boxes.

    The Fit in Detroit’s Defense

    The Lions don’t need Bradley Chubb to be the guy.

    They need him to be a guy defenses still fear.

    Detroit already has a cornerstone edge presence, but what they’ve lacked at times is consistent pressure from the opposite side — especially someone who forces protections to slide and opens lanes for others.

    Even in a reduced role, Chubb’s ability to:

    • Absorb double teams
    • Collapse pockets
    • Win with power and length

    …would immediately upgrade Detroit’s pass rush rotation.

    And in a system that prioritizes effort, physicality, and accountability? His leadership profile fits seamlessly.

    The Risk Is Obvious — And That’s the Point

    Yes, there’s risk.

    • Two major knee injuries
    • Declining pass-rush win rate (7.8% in 2025)
    • Age 30 season approaching

    But this is exactly why the Lions should be interested now, not two years ago.

    Detroit wouldn’t be paying for the Broncos version of Chubb.
    They’d be paying for the post-hype, post-contract, prove-it version — likely on a short-term deal with incentives.

    That’s the Brad Holmes sweet spot.

    Final Thought

    The Lions don’t need to overextend.
    They don’t need to promise anything.
    They just need to make the call.

    If Bradley Chubb is willing to bet on himself — and on a contender — Detroit should absolutely be one of the teams on the other end of that phone.

    Sometimes the smartest moves aren’t loud.
    They’re just timed perfectly.

  • The Trade Deadline Approaches – Potential Targets For The Eagles – Philadelphia Sports Nation

    The Eagles are 4-2 coming off back to back unfortunate losses. With two opponents that could have been written off as “Easy Wins” at the start of the year are looking to be formidable opponents for a team that’s struggled in all 3 phases since the start of October.

    With the trade deadline coming on November 4th this year. The Eagles will be returning from their bye week with a few additions to the roster. Both from activating players on IR, and hopefully a trade (or two) prior to the Tuesday deadline.

    Returning From Injury 

    After the Week 3 match against the Rams, the Eagles placed three players on Injured Reserve. Nolan Smith, Darius Cooper and Jakorian Bennett. Two players considered to be defensive starters, and the preseason wonder who made the WR4 roster spot.

    The expectation was to see Smith and Bennett return after the Week 9 Bye Week. However, all 3 are able to be activated off of injured reserve as soon as Week 8 against the Giants. 

    Both defensive positions have struggled in recent weeks, perhaps the return of the some depth would help give the Eagles a breath of fresh air on the defense. And if it doesn’t, there’s plenty of teams about to start a fire sale just around the corner.

    Realistic Targets

    It’s unfortunate the Eagles might end up using more assets to find a solution to the CB2 issue. But if Bennett/Ringo/Jackson still aren’t able to successfully play across from Quinyon Mitchell. There’s a few targets in the AFC that might be worth the phone call. 

    Michael Carter II 

    The Jets are already 0-6. There’s no silver lining for their season. Carter is on the first year of a 3 year/$30.750M extension. While primarily playing Nickel for the Jets does open up the opportunity to shift Cooper DeJean to the outside corner opposite Quinyon, if the Eagles wish to solve the problem with a shuffle of personnel.

    Jermaine Johnson II

    While we’re shopping in MetLife, Johnson would be another good pickup for the Eagles to consider. 2 years removed from a 7.5 Sack season that came with 17 QB Hits. On the 4th year of his rookie deal, the Eagles would be given the option of extending a young player to keep along the defensive line, or continue taking advantage of acquiring Comp Picks for future use. 

    Perhaps the Jets own 3rd round pick from the Reddick trade would be sufficient to move the needle on either of these trades. As the pick currently sits at 65th overall in the 2026 draft.

    Bradley Chubb

    On the topic of imploding AFC East franchises. The Dolphins should be the next team on speed dial to make potential moves. Under contract until 2028, Chubb signed a 3 year $54.49M contract with a Dolphins team that just can’t string successful months together.   With their season likely already over, it might be team to reevaluate the roster and start stockpiling picks. 

    Acquiring Chubb also provides Fangio with a player similar to his systems, with multiple years in Denver and a one off year in Miami, the Eagles get added depth to the struggling pass rush.

    The Unrealistic Moves

    Everybody gets outrageously unrealistic trade predictions for their favorite team. So why can’t we? There’s multiple star players available that might disgruntled on struggling teams, and I know just the GM to take advantage of that.

    Trey Hendrickson 

    The Eagles were previously linked to Trey Hendrickson in the offseason. If they weren’t committed earlier in the year, fate has presented them another opportunity. 

    With 17.5 Sacks his previous 2 seasons, and 4 to start the 2025 campaign. There’s a possibility the Bengals are looking to make a move similar to the Micah Parsons trade. If teams like the 49ers and Colts are linked to one of the biggest names on the market. Then the Eagles should circle back. 

    Denzel Ward

    Another pipe dream of a potential trade. The Eagles might’ve been able to skip the Jakorian Bennett trade if they could keep the Browns on the phone. 

    With Gavin Newsome being traded to the Jaguars last week, the Eagles might’ve already missed their chance to move a Browns Cornerback. 

    If there’s a potential to acquire a 4x Pro Bowl corner with 2 more years on a $100M contract the Eagles will have successfully found a Big Play Slay successor and giving Quinyon a reliable partner on the far side of the field.

    Denver Broncos Should Avoid Unloading Key Players At Trade Deadline

    Denver Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett has bought himself some time — for now.

    Following the Broncos’ Week 8 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars — their first since Week 3 when they defeated the San Francisco 49ers — Denver is feeling somewhat better about themselves.

    A lot of the same issues are still there. The robust amount of penalties. The head-scratching turnovers. The fact that Hackett still doesn’t appear to be ready to be leading the Broncos’ sideline.

    But Denver showed some fight in their win over the Jaguars. In fact, Denver was trailed 17-14 late in the fourth quarter when Russell Wilson and the Broncos made some clutch plays. Heck, the offense — the league’s worst — somehow went 3-for-3 in the red zone when it comes to scoring touchdowns.

    And while the Broncos may still sport a mediocre 3-5 record heading into their bye in Week 9, that means one big thing — Denver can’t be sellers at the trade deadline.

    Heading into their Week 8 matchup versus the Jaguars, the Broncos were presumed to be sellers at the trade deadline — especially if they lost. In fact, if they had lost, it wouldn’t have shocked anyone if Denver fired Hackett on the plane ride back home to Colorado.

    Names such as Jerry Jeudy, KJ Hamler and Bradley Chubb were popular names thrown out there in trade rumors.

    You can shut those rumors down— for now.

    Prior to the game, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Broncos were not planning on trading either of their receivers.

    “Although they are fielding trade inquiries on Chubb, the Broncos do not plan to trade Jerry Jeudy or KJ Hamler despite getting calls on the third-year wide receivers, according to sources familiar with the team’s thinking,” said Schefter.

    Schefter stressed that it would take a “strong offer” for Denver to trade away their top two young receivers.

    “The Broncos, who play Sunday in London against the Jacksonville Jaguars, instead want to use Jeudy and Hamler to revive their struggling offense, the sources told ESPN,” said Schefter. “Denver could ultimately still trade one of the receivers by Tuesday, but it only would be for what the team believed to be a strong offer, according to sources.”

    The one player who possibly could be moved is Chubb, Denver’s top pass-rushing specialist. As Schefter noted, one team is willing to offer the Broncos a first-round draft pick. Chubb could also command more compensation that what Denver fetched from the Los Angeles Rams — second and third-round picks — in the Von Miller trade last season.

    Furthermore, Chubb is the final year of his rookie deal and is expected to command a contract worth at least $20 million annually. If he’s not moved by the deadline, the Broncos are expected to keep him on a long-term deal.

    As enticing as a first-round pick may be for Chubb — especially considering Denver doesn’t hold one for the 2023 NFL draft due to the Russell Wilson trade — now isn’t the time to trade a key figure of Denver’s No. 3-ranked defense.

    If you trade Chubb now — or any of Denver’s other key players — for draft capital, you’re sending the signal that the win over Jacksonville means nothing. Most importantly, you’re sending the message that you’re waving the white flag on this season.

    As Mark Kizla of The Denver Post notes, trading Chubb — the cornerstone of the defense that is keeping the Broncos afloat — would send Denver into a rebuilding project.

    The Broncos would also waste a valuable season after signing Wilson to a $245 million contract extension.

    “Trading Chubb would not only be waving the white flag it would send a signal to Wilson that he signed a $245 million contract extension to lead a rebuilding project,” said Kizla.

    Since winning Super Bowl 50, this franchise has been on a downward spiral. They’ve gone six consecutive years without clinching a postseason berth — a record for a team after winning a Super Bowl. They can ill-afford another rebuild of a season just weeks after signing Wilson to such a big contract with high expectations.

    The Broncos may not make it to the postseason this year. They face a tough slate over their nine remaining games, with five of those against teams with winning records.

    But you have to give this team a chance. Let this team go down swinging with its best players.

    Retaining Chubb ensures that the Broncos are indeed all-in on this season and not looking ahead towards the future.

    Simply put, it’s the right move to make.
