For as long as I can remember, simple yet elevated has been my go-to aesthetic. Think classic ’90s minimalism meets French chic. One of the mainstays that I have discovered I lean on the most in cultivating this look has always been a rotating set of elevated basics that speaks to the current season and, at times, the current trends of the moment.
This winter, there are some key pieces I have my eye on with all this in mind. To start with, it’s sweater season, and effortless sweaters that happen to be right up my alley are abundant. Another key basic, with consideration to what is trending, is a chic boat-neck top. For more of my top picks, scroll on to check out all five basics I am reaching for this season—these pieces are all guaranteed to make any outfit look expensive. Plus, you’ll wear them forever.

Investing in a good pair of boots is essential in the winter, and this year is no different. Whether paired with jeans, dresses, midi skirts, or tailored trousers, boots have once again emerged as the go-to footwear for winter, seamlessly blending practicality with style. What makes boot shopping particularly appealing is the assurance that regardless of the silhouette and aesthetic chosen, they will always find their way back into fashion.
Timeless classics like Chelsea boots, elegant leather ankle boots, and knee-highs possess an enduring charm, ensuring they complement various looks. As highlighted in our winter 2023/2024 fashion trends report, the coveted boot style this year is the thigh-high—the taller, the better. While it might be perceived as a bold choice, you can be confident that this style will remain a staple in your wardrobe for years to come.

Cute shoes that don’t break your bank account? Yeah, sign me up. Seeing as we’re still in the depths of winter and will be for several more months, a solid pair of boots is a must. So if you’re in search of a new pair, right now arguably the best time to shop for them since plenty of retailers are putting their winter collections on sale to prepare for all the newness that awaits us in spring.
On my daily perusal through my favorite retailers’ sites, I couldn’t help but notice all the of-the-moment boots that just so happen to be delightfully affordable, too. Just a few of the trendy styles I’ve spotted in my shopping sessions include the buckled moto boots that are everywhere we look, sophisticated riding boots, practical shearling-lined boots, and even a few statement-making stunners. Oh, and when I say affordable I really mean it. Everything you’re about to see is under $200 with most of the boots ringing up for around $150.

Just ahead of the holidays, Nordstrom unleashed a ton of chic, affordable shoes, from runway-ready slingbacks to classic, minimalist loafers. Scroll below to see the best new shoes under $150 available at Nordstrom.

One thing about me: I’m a creature of habit. That fact was underscored for me recently as I began to strategize what to pack for an upcoming trip to Japan, where I’ll be walking close to 20,000 steps a day. A pair of comfortable boots is number one on my packing list, and as I began to sort through my boot collection, I realized that I buy the same style over and over again. Every pair of boots I own has a heel—there isn’t a single flat boot in sight. And while they may look good, heels aren’t going to work on a trip that involves this much walking.
All of that is to say I’m in the market for a good pair of flat boots (and an overhaul of my shopping habits). I took a scan through Shopbop knowing it would come through with some good options, but even I was surprised by its range of chic flat styles from leather Chelsea boots to motos to sleek riding boots. It’s safe to say I’m covered for my upcoming trip, and there are too many good finds not to share. Below, I’m highlighting the 31 best flat boots from Shopbop.

Apparently, I’m not the only one who’s recently become a super fan. “Out of all the original Gossip Girl cast members, I don’t know why I didn’t think to follow Kelly more closely,” Brooklyn-based freelance fashion editor Cortne Bonilla explains over DM. “A few weeks ago, I came across her Instagram profile after one of my favorites brands, By Malene Birger, reposted an ensemble of hers,” she continues. “In the age of mass girlhood, it’s so refreshing to see a woman of a certain age embracing personal style, experimentation, and emerging brands.” For her, it’s Rutherford’s very personal sense of style that drew her in. “Kelly doesn’t dress for a trend or age, she dresses for herself—you can tell by her mixture of the old and the new, the classic and the experimental.”
On her feed, one will find a mix of just-released outerwear from the aforementioned Danish brand that fashion girls regularly obsess over to casual yet luxe knitwear. Most of her looks are colored in a palette of quiet-luxury neutrals, from camel to ivory, with touches of navy, black, and brown for good measure. Every article of clothing is glamorous yet nonchalant, making each of the actress’s outfits more than worth copying.

In terms of clothing and accessories, Shopbop has everything one could want this season. From fashion director Caroline Macguire’s latest finds to Who What Wear editors’ picks for last-minute gifting, there are hundreds of pages to browse and almost just as much to buy.
But as much as I would like to have hundreds of pairs of boots (or a closet that fits as many!), the truth is that the best styles can usually be worn with several looks and are made from materials that will tolerate the elements. Of course, Shopbop has plenty from which to choose, but with the holidays approaching, not everyone has time to click through every product to find the perfect fit.
So I did it for you. Consider it an early gift! Just kidding. From chunky Chelsea boots to luxurious leather knee-high styles, I’m confident that there’s at least one pair you’ll want to wear regularly this winter. However, if you’re eager to make a purchase, then it’s time to start scrolling: The 17 best boots on Shopbop below are practically walking off the shelves!

The only thing better than transitioning to sweater weather is when it’s finally time to change shoes, swapping out sandals and sneakers for boots. One or two pairs could suffice, especially if you don’t live in a place where snow is a concern. But in my experience, it takes at least three styles of boots to get through winter and fall in style.
Chelsea boots top the list as an essential wardrobe staple because they go with everything, are easy to walk in, and look totally timeless. Invest in a well-made pair, and keep them looking pristine with shoe polish, waterproofing, and regular sole maintenance, and they’ll last for seasons to come.
Next are flat, lace-up ankle boots. These run the gamut from sturdy snow shoes to cool combat boots and can be found in an array of materials from leather to nylon. Opt for a chunky sole, or look for a combat-boot style with buckles and embellishments. It’s a subtle statement shoe no matter how you wear it.
Finally, the prettiest boots in our closets are often knee-high heeled boots. They’re not always practical but are guaranteed to take any outfit to the next level. Choose a stacked heel for maximum comfort, or try out a short heel in stunning suede to wear with a mini or midi skirt. And don’t forget boot inserts or hangers to help the tall shaft keep its shape while in storage.
Ready to complete your capsule wardrobe with a new pair just in time for the holidays? We’ve pulled several versions of each style that demonstrate the versatility within each category. The only hard part is choosing which new boots to break in first.

My favorite four-letter S word is back at the top of my mind: sale. Last week, Nordstrom’s jaw-dropping limited-time sale dropped just in time for the holiday outfit shopping (or, if you’re like a procrastinator like me, last-minute gift shopping). While I’m usually the first to jump on a good deal, especially when it comes to brands like Madewell, Topshop, and Steve Madden, patience is of the essence. Now that there’s only one day left in the sale and prices are fully slashed, it’s time to take advantage of all the chic, cute finds Nordstrom has to offer.
Below, shop the best can’t-miss days on the last day of the Nordstrom limited-time sale, from stunning coats to It girl-approved sunglasses.

If, like me, you’ve been reading Who What Wear religiously for the past decade, then you know that nothing is boring about great basics. Just a bit shy of “uniform dressing,” without committing completely to a capsule wardrobe, a closet full of just a few winter basics is all that’s needed to get through the season in style.
That’s not to say you need to wear them all at once—in fact, we suggest mixing at matching these key winter basics with whatever you already have on hand. That’s the point, right? Great basics go with everything and can be worn regularly without compromising your personal style.
This season, we recommend shopping for (and perhaps investing in) these five simple wardrobe staples: a camel-colored coat, classic black blazer, chunky white knit sweater, straight-leg jeans, and Chelsea boots. That’s it! And, if you already have a few of these items at your disposal, great — do some quick “girl math” and use that savings to invest in a top-quality piece that you’ll be happy about wearing for years to come. Ready? Let’s shop.

After some highly scientific research (chatting to friends and tallying the shopping requests that come in via my DMs, very advanced stuff) I can conclude that most of our shopping lists currently include at least one of the following items: Cozy winter coats, great-value beauty gift sets, on-trend boots, endless ideas for gifts, and chic knits—everyone seems to be in the mood for a new sweater.
I’m happy to report that I’ve found excellent deals on all of the above at Nordstrom’s secret sale, which seems to have popped up just in time to take the edge off our holiday season expenditures. Let’s start with those sweaters.

When it comes to sale shopping, I like to start with the basics. It’s a sure-fire way I know I can probably justify a little splurge of impulse shopping—because really, when have I ever regretted reinvesting in the classic staples I wear on repeat? The meat and potatoes of my wardrobe, if you will?
I’m no stranger to hitting Nordstrom for these elevated basics, from on-trend denim and knits to seasonal footwear staples and perfectly slouchy trench coats. In the midst of Nordstrom’s epic surprise sale, I’m here with 42 excellent opportunities to buy a little something that you’ll feel good about.

It’s one of those days when I feel like the universe is messing with me. I recently did a ruthless cull of my fall and winter footwear, settling on a chic capsule of just five perfect pairs (and a search for just one more) that truly are all I need. Now, the trouble with telling the world about this is that I’ve backed myself into a corner where I really can’t make any sneaky additional shoe purchases—which was the whole point, to be fair.
And now, just when I thought I was in the clear after commendably making it through Black Friday and Cyber Monday without so much as *harmlessly* popping a pair of shoes in my cart, Nordstrom decided to go ahead and have another massive surprise sale, seemingly in an attempt to ruin me. In lieu of shopping for myself, I’ve thrived in curating the tip-top pairs for you out of everything that’s on sale: chic flats, black boots, Mary Janes, modern heels that feel special (but aren’t doing too much). For the record, all of these would slip very nicely into my capsule wardrobe, which is exactly what will be happening as soon as a spot opens up.
