  • Macau Casino Workers Treated With One-Month Bonuses

    • Five of the six casino operators in Macau have announced annual bonuses
    • The one-time payments are for non-executive workers
    • Macau enjoyed its best year since the pandemic in 2025

Macau casinos enjoyed a prosperous 2025, and the six gaming companies are sharing the riches with the people who made it all possible.

As is customary in January following strong gaming years, most of Macau’s casino concessions have announced significant bonuses for non-executive workers.

Galaxy Entertainment said its one-month discretionary bonus covers about 97% of the company’s staff, with all positions from senior manager and below eligible. Melco Resorts said its one-month bonus would be paid to all “non-management” employees in Macau and Hong Kong, but did not specify what percentage of its workforce would be entitled to the special payments. MGM China said 97% of its staff in China would be paid a bonus equivalent to the employee’s salary for one month.

Wynn Macau confirmed it’s distributing a “special allowance” equal to one month’s gross salary, with the bonus celebrating the company’s 20th anniversary in the Chinese Special Administrative Region. Wynn said 98% of its 11,552-person workforce qualified for the dividend.

On Sunday, SJM Resorts said it too would issue a one-month bonus to non-executive employees. Sands China is the lone concession not to yet announce a bonus, but is expected to in the coming days.

    2025 Recovery

2025 was the best year yet in the COVID-19 aftermath for Macau’s gaming industry, which is the world’s largest casino market. The six casino operators generated gross gaming revenue (GGR) of almost $30.9 billion, more than double the size of the Las Vegas Strip.

The $30.9 billion haul represented a 9.1% increase on 2024 and was 36% higher than 2023, when Macau casino revenue totaled $22.7 billion. 2025 exceeded expectations, as the casinos successfully redirected their focus from the high rollers, who had largely disappeared with the eradication of VIP junket groups, to the premium mass player and the general public.

Premium mass players still bet hundreds of US dollars per baccarat hand, with some wagering four digits per deal. While the true high rollers who bet thousands and tens of thousands of dollars per hand in private junket rooms are generally no more, the casinos say the need to offer fewer perks and comps to premium players has led to them being more profitable.

    Record Visitation

The pivot to a wider market was proven with the disclosure of the 2025 visitor arrivals numbers. Macau’s Public Security Police, which handles border entries, reports that more than 40 million visitors made their way into the enclave last year.

The tally, officially 40.06 million, easily broke Macau’s previous best travel year of 39.41 million visitors set in 2019. The 2025 visitor mark represented a 14.7% surge on 2024, when 34.94 million entries were counted.

Albany DA meets with Legislature over controversial bonus

    [ad_1]

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -Over $20,000 was what District Attorney David Soares gave himself in a one-time bonus in the fall of 2023 along with 11% bonuses for some members of his office. Soares said this was from the Aid to Prosecution Grant.

“The only career in my life that I have ever had is that of a prosecutor. I am proud to speak for myself and my office and for the institution because we take great care to ensure that while we are doing our job that we are also providing due process to those who stand accused,” stated Albany County District Attorney, David Soares.

His decision has fallen under criticism as his salary is set at over $200,000 a year by law. Soares said the DA’s Office was notified that the Aid the Prosecution Grant would be five times its previous amounts at almost $950,000.

“Compensation of the District Attorney shall be as provided in Section 183A of the New York judiciary law. It doesn’t say salary, it says compensation. Which I think is fairly a broader and more encompassing term that includes bonuses,” explained County Legislator, Jeffrey Kuhn.

Each member of the Legislature had an opportunity to ask Soares questions about the bonus or give a statement. Some say the situation involving the bonus came about recently so they wouldn’t have to give the District Attorney a political endorsement.

“On day one, those democratic leaders found the DA in essence guilty before anybody had an opportunity to respond,” described County Legislator, Paul Burgdorf.

Soares says the Albany County Comptroller’s Office requested a legal opinion on the bonus on January 8 and he didn’t hear from the comptroller, Susan Rizzo, until January 30 that there was an issue. He and other colleagues asking Rizzo and other departments such as Human Resources, who Soares says gave him the codes to distribute grant pay in November, need to attend future meetings.

Deputy Chairwoman, Wanda Willingham, attended the meeting via Zoom and sent NEWS10 a statement in part:

“The Legislature serves as the primary oversight entity in the County, and as such, it is the job of the Legislators to ensure accountability and effective governance. Tonight’s joint meeting is important as it allowed our committee chairs, committee members, and counsel to publicly address the concerns surrounding the District Attorney’s use of grant funds as personal compensation.”

David Soares said at the meeting that he will be returning his bonus. There may be a follow-up discussion if needed by the Albany County Legislature when it comes to the next steps.

  • What are the odds? Two winning tickets for $395-million jackpot sold at same Encino gas station

What are the odds? Two winning tickets for $395-million jackpot sold at same Encino gas station

    [ad_1]

In a first in California Mega Millions history, two tickets purchased from the same Chevron station on Ventura Boulevard in Encino hit the $395-million jackpot, potentially creating controversy over the retailer’s share of the winnings.

The chances of winning a Mega Millions jackpot stand at an astonishing 1 in 302,575,350. The prospect of two separate transactions winning with the same numbers at one location can seem implausible, especially considering there are 23,000 lottery retailers across the state.

Whoever owns the two tickets would split the jackpot, but it is still unclear whether the two tickets were purchased by the same person or two players, which could result in controversy over whether the gas station owner is awarded $1 million or more for selling the tickets.

As of Monday, the jackpot has yet to be claimed, according to lottery spokesperson Carolyn Becker.

The identity of the person or people who purchased the tickets remains unknown. However, Becker said the lottery’s gaming system meticulously tracks each transaction statewide, and the law enforcement team investigating the winnings knows whether it was a single transaction or two separate ones.

The California Lottery isn’t revealing this information to “protect the integrity of the security review process once there’s a prize claim.” Potential jackpot winners coming forward must undergo a vetting process, involving a California Lottery law enforcement officer interview to verify that they are legitimate winners.

“It’s a really rigorous vetting process, particularly for these big jackpots, to make sure that the winner is actually the right winner and not some bad actor trying to claim to be the winner,” Becker said.

Becker said it could take weeks or months to release the information regarding the number of transactions. The identities will also be disclosed, adhering to California laws that require the lottery to publicize the winner’s complete name and location within a year.

Although two winning tickets being sold in one location is unusual, Becker said it is not impossible.

“Perhaps one person wanted to try their luck on two different rows for whatever reason, or maybe a couple of buddies wanted to try their chances with the same exact numbers,” Becker said.

When store manager Nitessh Karla arrived at the gas station Saturday morning, a barrage of voice mails greeted him, with one from state lottery officials telling him his store had sold the winning tickets.

“I got a telephone call [saying] ‘Your store hit the jackpot.’ Then I checked the machine and found out someone won the lotto,” Karla said.

Apart from the occasional Scratcher winner collecting a smaller jackpot, Karla said he had never witnessed a win like this in his nine years at the store.

Karla is skeptical that two customers purchased the winning tickets.

“Personally, I think it is the same guy. Maybe he forgets he already bought it and buys it again,” Karla said.

How the tickets were purchased is pivotal to whether Karla’s store receives only $1 million or nearly $2 million in lottery bonuses.

A retailer who sells a winning ticket is eligible to receive a bonus of half of 1% of the jackpot, capped at $1 million. But if a retailer sells two tickets that both win on the same game, it could be considered two transactions and result in more than $2 million in bonuses.

Becker said this bonus payout is “unprecedented in California in terms of a jackpot of this magnitude.” The California Lottery’s legal team is reviewing the regulations’ language, she said.

“Our lawyers are looking at it because if it’s one person, the retailer will get a million dollars,” Becker said. “The question is, do they get more than that? Do they get two bonuses that add up to more than a million dollars?”

The winning numbers for Friday’s game were 21, 26, 53, 66, 70, and the Mega number 13. This was the 10th Mega Million jackpot won in 2023.

The jackpot for the next Mega Millions drawing Tuesday will be $20 million.

With the store’s newfound notoriety, Karla said he has seen an increase in customers buying lotto tickets and Scratchers, hoping the store’s luck hasn’t dried out yet.

Global Gaming Operator Adds Bored Ape Yacht Club Crypto Coin for Deposits and Withdrawals

    Press Release

    updated: Mar 18, 2022

BetOnline.ag, one of the world’s largest online sports betting, poker and casino platforms, became the first gaming operator to add ApeCoin to its approved cryptocurrency processing list, the company announced today via the Odds PR agency.

ApeCoin ($APE) began trading on crypto exchanges Thursday, March 17, after months of hype and speculation behind the ERC-20 token created by Yuga Labs, which is the parent company of the popular NFT project, Bored Ape Yacht Club.

BetOnline, which publicly announced its entry into the NFT market in February after purchasing Bored Ape #320 for $375,000 during Super Bowl week, was an early adopter of cryptocurrency. The website first began accepting Bitcoin for transactions in 2010.

“We got in early on Bitcoin because we are confident blockchain is the future of global currency,” BetOnline CEO Eddie Robbins III said. “And now, it’s incredibly exciting to start adding NFTs to our asset vault and be the first in our industry to accept ApeCoin. We’re bullish on the world of Web3, and we’re eager to build and strengthen our partnerships and promotions in this space.”

Outside of Bitcoin, BetOnline.ag accepts more than a dozen altcoins for deposits and withdrawals on its platform, including Ethereum, Dogecoin, Avalanche, Cardano, Polygon, Solana and USDC.

BetOnline is widely respected by crypto communities for processing perks such as zero transaction fees, high-level security and instantaneous deposits and withdrawals. Clients have access to crypto deposit limits up to $500,000, which is the highest in the gaming industry.

“We’ve established ourselves as the go-to sportsbook, poker and casino platform for crypto players who want the best gaming experience that is guaranteed by anonymity and transparency,” Robbins said. “The security of our customers has been, and will always be, the top priority at BetOnline.”

An Etherscan transaction from Thursday morning shows that the company’s ENS domain and crypto wallet, betonline-ag.eth, claimed 10,094 APE tokens. A spokesperson said the company has no intention of selling its ApeCoin.

For March Madness, BetOnline is currently offering a 110% matching bonus for new customers depositing with cryptocurrency and a 45% deposit bonus for existing customers.

    About BetOnline.ag
