Nickeil Alexander-Walker scored 23 points and came up with a crucial defensive play in the final seconds to help the Atlanta Hawks hold on for a 113-110 win over the visiting Charlotte Hornets on Sunday.

Alexander-Walker put the Hawks ahead 111-110 with a layup at 1:42 and stripped Charlotte rookie Kon Knueppel of the ball with 6 seconds remaining to preserve the win. The Hornets’ Miles Bridges missed a last-second 3-pointer that would have tied the game.

Alexander-Walker was one of four Atlanta players – all starters — with 20-plus points. Jalen Johnson scored 28 with 11 assists and eight rebounds, Dyson Daniels had 22 points and nine rebounds, and Onyeka Okongwu added 20 points and seven boards.

Knueppel scored 28 points for the Hornets, including seven 3-point baskets. Collin Sexton added 22 points and Bridges scored 21.

    Heat 127, 76ers 117

Norman Powell scored 32 points and Kel’el Ware registered 20 points and 16 rebounds to guide visiting Miami to a victory over Philadelphia.

Bam Adebayo contributed 18 points and 13 rebounds for the Heat, while Davion Mitchell chipped in with eight points, 12 assists and eight rebounds. Jaime Jaquez Jr. led the Miami reserves with 22 points.

Tyrese Maxey scored 27 points and Trendon Watford contributed 19 points, nine rebounds and seven assists for the 76ers, who have alternated losses and wins in each of their last nine games. Andre Drummond pulled down 23 rebounds to go with 14 points. Center Joel Embiid (knee) continued to sit out, while Paul George (knee) scored 10 points on 3-of-10 shooting as he works his way back from offseason knee surgery.

    Raptors 119, Nets 109

Immanuel Quickley made two 3-pointers in the final 3:17 as Toronto defeated visiting Brooklyn for its seventh straight win.

Quickley scored eight of his 13 points in the fourth quarter. He was one of eight Raptors to reach double figures, with Scottie Barnes leading the group with 17. RJ Barrett scored 16 before limping to the dressing room with 7:13 left in the third quarter; he did not return with a right knee sprain.

Reserve Tyrese Martin scored 26 points for the Nets, while Michael Porter Jr. had 25. Noah Clowney added 22 points, and Nic Claxton had 10 points and 11 rebounds. Brooklyn tied the game at 104 with 4:19 remaining before Quickley’s barrage dashed its hopes.

    Cavaliers 120, Clippers 105

Donovan Mitchell collected 37 points, eight rebounds and six assists, and Evan Mobley scored 18 points as Cleveland pulled away for a victory over visiting Los Angeles.

De’Andre Hunter added 17 points and Darius Garland had eight points and eight assists for the Cavaliers, who went 4-2 on their longest homestand of the season. Head coach Kenny Atkinson improved to 76-24 in his 100th game with the franchise.

Ivica Zubac amassed a season-high 33 points and grabbed 18 rebounds to pace the Clippers, while Kawhi Leonard scored 20 in his first game since Nov. 3. James Harden had 19 points, but he missed all eight of his 3-point attempts. L.A. fell to 2-10 in November with the loss.

    Celtics 138, Magic 129

Jaylen Brown collected 35 points and Boston avoided back-to-back home losses by beating short-handed Orlando.

Boston received 23 points off the bench from Anfernee Simons and 19 from Payton Pritchard. Simons was 4 of 7 from 3-point territory. Brown and Pritchard each had eight assists.

Jett Howard led the Magic with 30 points, seven rebounds and three assists off the bench. He scored 28 points in the second half, including 22 in the fourth quarter. Orlando received 18 points from both Jase Richardson and Desmond Bane. Franz Wagner added 15 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

    Thunder 122, Trail Blazers 95

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 37 points to help Oklahoma City extend its winning streak to nine with a home victory over Portland.

Gilgeous-Alexander also had seven assists and five rebounds while finishing 13 of 18 from the field and hitting all nine of his free throws. Ajay Mitchell complemented SGA’s brilliance with 20 points off the bench, and Isaiah Hartenstein grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds.

Jerami Grant led the Blazers with 21 points. Deni Avdija missed 12 of 16 shots from the field and finished with 11 points as Portland failed to defeat the Thunder for the second time in two tries and suffered its fifth loss in six games.

    Suns 111, Spurs 102

Dillon Brooks had 25 points and four of Phoenix’s 14 3-pointers, Devin Booker tallied 24 points and the host Suns extended their winning streak to three with a victory over San Antonio.

De’Aaron Fox scored 26 points, Devin Vassell had 17 and Julian Champagnie collected 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Spurs, who had a three-game winning streak broken. San Antonio had not lost since star Victor Wembanyama suffered a calf injury in a Nov. 14 loss to Golden State.

    Lakers 108, Jazz 106

Luka Doncic scored 33 points while adding 11 rebounds and eight assists to lead Los Angeles past Utah in Salt Lake City.

  • Gambling Probe Tests The Resilience That Helped Chauncey Billups Soar To The Basketball Hall Of Fame – KXL

DETROIT (AP) — Chauncey Billups earned a spot in the Basketball Hall of Fame a year ago, recognizing his resilience and clutch play in a championship-winning NBA career.

His ability to bounce back and make all the right moves is being put to an entirely different test by a gambling scandal.

Billups, who was placed on leave as coach of the Portland Trail Blazers, was one of more than 30 people arrested last week for what federal law enforcement officials described as their involvement in various illicit gambling activities. The coach was alleged to have participated in a conspiracy to fix high-stakes poker games with ties to three Mafia families. He also matches the credentials of someone described only as Co-Conspirator 8 in an indictment detailing how some people gave bettors inside information on player health statuses.

“My message to the defendants who’ve been rounded up today is this: Your winning streak has ended,” Joseph Nocella, the top federal prosecutor for the Eastern District of New York, said in outlining the charges.

Billups’ alleged involvement was stunning for someone with a sterling reputation, earning the NBA’s sportsmanship award in 2009 while playing for his hometown Denver Nuggets.

Los Angeles Clippers coach Tyronn Lue, who calls Billups his best friend, said he spoke with Billups on the day he was arrested and was encouraged by what he heard during the conversation.

Detroit Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff said he hates to see what Billups is going through as a friend he has had since middle school.

“I think everyone needs to allow due process to happen, and then obviously judgments can be made,” Bickerstaff said on Sunday. “You feel for anyone you’ve known and have a relationship with and know his family well.

“I know he’s going through it,” he added. “It’s a difficult time for him.”

‘Pressure is nothing new to me’
Billups, who is married and has three daughters, was arrested at his home in Oregon before dawn last Thursday. Hours earlier, the Trail Blazers lost their season opener at home to Minnesota. After tipping off his fifth season in Portland, Billups was asked if he felt pressure because the franchise’s new ownership group attended the game.

“That pressure thing is nothing to me, man,” Billups said in his last public comments on Oct. 22. “I do the best I can and let the chips fall where they may. You know that about me by now.”

Billups appeared before a judge in Oregon, and was released from custody on conditions. His attorney, Chris Heywood, denied the allegations.

“To believe that Chauncey Billups did what the federal government is accusing him of is to believe that he would risk his Hall of Fame legacy, his reputation and his freedom,” Heywood said. “He would not jeopardize those things for anything, let alone a card game.”

The 49-year-old Billups grew up in Denver’s Park Hill neighborhood and starred in college for the Colorado Buffaloes.

Boston drafted him No. 3 overall in 1997 and he bounced around the league, getting traded during his rookie year twice more over the next two years.

Billups signed with Minnesota in 2000 as a free agent and after two solid seasons, he leveraged his value to sign a $35 million, six-year contract with the Pistons.

Billups was known as Mr. Big Shot
He was known as Mr. Big Shot because of his knack of making clutch shots in the Motor City, where he found his groove as a player and later had his No. 1 Pistons jersey retired as one of the most popular players in any sport in Michigan.

Billups guided Detroit to its third NBA championship in 2004 and the NBA Finals the following year during a run of six straight appearances in the Eastern Conference finals.

The Pistons later traded him to Denver for his second stint with the franchise. After Billups went on to play for the New York Knicks and Clippers, he closed his five-time All-Star career in Detroit during the 2013-14 season with more than $100 million in earnings.

Billups started his career as a TV analyst the next year, a role he gave up to pursue a coaching career with the Clippers under Lue. He was hired as Portland’s coach in 2021 and signed a multi-year extension with the Trail Blazers last April and has a career 117-212 record as an coach in the league.

The NBA, in reaction to the arrests of Billups and Miami guard Terry Rozier for their alleged role in gambling schemes, has started a review of how the league can protect not just the integrity of the game but its players and coaches as well.

The league made those revelations in a memo sent to all 30 teams, a copy of which was obtained by The Associated Press.

  • Not Currently Playing And Not A Coach, Damian Lillard Has A Unique Role With The Blazers – KXL

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — At one point after Damian Lillard returned to the Portland Trail Blazers, he was chatting with coach Chauncey Billups about what his role with the team would be this season as he recovers from an Achilles injury.

Billups had joked that Lillard would be the “highest-paid assistant coach in the league” but the nine-time All-Star expressed concern that he didn’t want to overstep in his guidance of the team’s young players.

“And I’m saying, Dame, you’re Dame. You’re OK, bro. Just be you,” Billups said. “Just be who you always are. They’re going to be looking for that direction. And so he’ll find his way as he’s trying to get himself back healthy.”

Lillard played for Portland for his first 11 NBA seasons before he was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks before the start of the 2023-24 season. Lillard tore his left Achilles tendon during Milwaukee’s first-round playoff series against the Indiana Pacers earlier this year and was subsequently waived.

That paved the way for his return to the Blazers, who signed him in July to a three-year, $42 million deal.

Lillard is in a unique position with the Blazers, back on the team but sidelined for the season because of his injury. So naturally there are questions about how he fits into the scheme of things.

“He is not a coach. He’s a player, and he’s a great player still. And there’s a different level of connectivity that comes with that, you know?” Billups said at the start of the team’s training camp. “Everybody loves Dame. He’s very sensitive to not overstep but we all know Dame, and I told him that’s not even possible because we see the game, we see this thing, the same way.”

The role, it seems, is pretty much undefined.

“Like Chauncey said, I guess I’m going to be like another assistant coach. But whatever I can be to the team at this point, that’s what I’ll be, but I’ll definitely be there,” Lillard said.

Lillard is beloved in Portland. During his final season with the Blazers, he averaged a career-high 32.2 points and became just the seventh player in NBA history to score more than 70 points in a game when he finished with 71 against the Houston Rockets.

It was just one of many career highlights for a player who would often hit a clutch shot and then point to his wrist indicating “Dame Time.”

Lillard holds franchise records for points (19,376) and 3-pointers (2,387). He had five games of 60 or more points with Portland.

He was the 2013 Rookie of the Year and was named to the NBA’s 75th Anniversary team in 2021. He won a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

But probably his defining moment came in 2019, when he hit a 37-foot 3-pointer at the buzzer to clinch Portland’s first-round series win over Oklahoma City. Mobbed by his teammates on the court, the camera focused on Lillard’s face. His expression said it all: underestimate Dame at your own peril.

Lillard said he doesn’t plan on playing this season. Asked before training camp if he’d reconsider if he was close to healthy and Portland was the No. 1 seed going into the playoffs, he joked, “if the team’s the one seed going to the playoffs, then they’ve probably got it.”

“I’ve been running. I’ve been shooting. I think it’s at the stage where I can do a lot. But it’s tricky because with this injury, what I’ve learned is you get to a point where you can do a lot of these things, but the tendon is not strong enough to stand up to it like it normally would be able to, like doing basketball activities,” he said. “So it’s a long period of being stuck right here.”

In the meantime, he can be there for the team’s younger players, including Shaedon Sharpe, Scoot Henderson, Toumani Camara and Deni Avdija.

Henderson is sidelined with a left hamstring tear and will miss the start of the season. As he rehabs from the injury, Lillard can lend his advice but emphasized it won’t be too heavy-handed.

“I’m rehabbing, he’s going to be rehabbing and trying to get back to full health. But I’m not going to be all in his ear, like I just know everything. But there’s a lot that I can share with him,” Lillard said. “As a young point guard, I know the desire, I’ve been there — to want more for yourself and want to grow, want to prove yourself. I’ve been through that process. I’ve been through the struggles. … I know what it’s like off the floor when you’ve got people saying what you need to do and what’s expected. I know that I could help take some of that weight off his shoulders.”

  • Anya Taylor-Joy Wore 2024's Most Elegant Trend to the Emmys After Party

Anya Taylor-Joy Wore 2024's Most Elegant Trend to the Emmys After Party

Putting together an elegant party outfit is about as close to impossible as winning the lottery or getting a table at NYC’s Polo Bar… the two concepts just don’t really go together. Yet Anya Taylor-Joy managed to create one seemingly with ease for the Emmys after party she attended last night. For the event in West Hollywood, the The Menu actress chose an all-black ensemble consisting of a black leather miniskirt, matching go-go boots, and an hourglass-shaped blazer that added just the right amount of formality and glamour to the otherwise fun and playful look.

Hourglass silhouettes like Taylor-Joy’s are quickly becoming some of 2024’s most sought-after items, with trending styles by designer labels like Alaïa, Tory Burch, Versace, and Gabriela Hearst, as well as more affordable options that can be found at Aritzia, Reformation, and Helsa. Below, scroll through 15 of my favorite nipped-in, structural pieces, each of which is more elegant than the next.

10 Years Later, These Looks From Toteme's Creative Director Are Still So Chic

If you were to ask me who has been a consistent style muse for me since I started working in fashion (beyond the Olsen twins, of course), it would be Toteme’s co-founder and creative director, Elin Kling. If I could only wear one brand for the rest of my life, it would be Toteme, and I declared as much some years ago. When it comes to Kling’s personal style, it dawned on me that I still reference just about all of her looks from a decade ago up until today. That’s impressive in my book, to say the least.

Below, I take you through some of my favorite ensembles from Kling that date back 10 years or more. How does she do it? It’s all thanks to her continued commitment to elevated basics like tailored black blazers, classic jeans, simple shoes, and other genuinely timeless pieces. Keep scrolling to see seven incredibly chic outfits from Kling’s stylish archive that you can wear now and for many years to come. Seriously, these look like they could have been shot yesterday.

  • Chic, Not Trendy: 27 Nordstrom Items for Effortless Style

Chic, Not Trendy: 27 Nordstrom Items for Effortless Style

So, my official mantra at the moment is ‘fewer, better things’, but if I’m allowed to have a second, it would be ‘chic, not trendy’. But look, as I write this I’m sitting here in my Sambas—so I’m clearly not anti-trend, nor am I immune to a bit of hype. That being said, I have been doubling (and tripling, even quadrupling) down on certain fashion styles and silhouettes for a few years now, and it feels like over the past few years, new iterations of these classic pieces continue to be shoppable each season.

Perhaps the algorithms have just learnt to keep serving me up more of the quiet luxury they’ve figured out I like? Whatever it is, there’s no shortage of fashion on the internet right now that feels timelessly chic, with just nod to this season’s trends. I’ve curated the best shoes, bags, apparel, and winter accessories from Nordstrom that capture this energy. Some picks are designer, some are a bargain, and all of them are very worth your time.

5 Winter Basics to Own If You Refuse to Follow Trends

If, like me, you’ve been reading Who What Wear religiously for the past decade, then you know that nothing is boring about great basics. Just a bit shy of “uniform dressing,” without committing completely to a capsule wardrobe, a closet full of just a few winter basics is all that’s needed to get through the season in style.

That’s not to say you need to wear them all at once—in fact, we suggest mixing at matching these key winter basics with whatever you already have on hand. That’s the point, right? Great basics go with everything and can be worn regularly without compromising your personal style

This season, we recommend shopping for (and perhaps investing in) these five simple wardrobe staples: a camel-colored coat, classic black blazer, chunky white knit sweater, straight-leg jeans, and Chelsea boots. That’s it! And, if you already have a few of these items at your disposal, great — do some quick “girl math” and use that savings to invest in a top-quality piece that you’ll be happy about wearing for years to come. Ready? Let’s shop.

  • London Style Always Looks So Expensive—Here's How I'm Shopping It for Under $300

London Style Always Looks So Expensive—Here's How I'm Shopping It for Under $300

One great thing about London is how often the classic British fashion tropes really are worn by locals: Trenches, riding boots, a healthy dose of cozy cardigans—and only partly because English weather truly lives up to its dreary reputation. Season after season, there’s a prevalence of fashion—from designer to high street—that delightfully nods to that British heritage in that ’90s rom-com kind of way (kind of like if you were to go Paris and half the people you met actually wore berets).

Because I had five nights in town recently, I decided to investigate the locals’ style up close and kept tabs on the winter fashion items that seemed to tap into that polished London look and “old money” energy. The vibe is a subset of quiet luxury with a healthy dose of heritage fabrics, an inclination to prepare for rain, and a real affinity with anything that suggests one might have a second home in the country. I promise, these items only look luxe, as everything here is under $300.

  • Sofia Richie Grainge Just Mastered the Art Of Making Jeans Look Fancy AF

Sofia Richie Grainge Just Mastered the Art Of Making Jeans Look Fancy AF

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about Sofia Richie Grainge in the last year, it’s that she really can pull off any look. She went viral on TikTok for her quiet-luxury wedding looks, but at the same time, consistently shows off her ability to style neon, printed, and feather-embellished ensembles just as well as neutral, minimal ones. And her latest outfit is yet another example of her versatility and propensity to make really anything look elegant and chic.

On Tuesday, the Nudestix beauty director posted a slideshow on Instagram featuring a mirror selfie of one of her recent fall outfits. The look in question was a simple one, and yet, it proved just how advanced Richie Grainge’s style skills are. Why? Because it showed her making jeans, specifically very casual vintage straight-leg jeans, look equally as fancy as a pencil skirt, dress, or pair of slacks. I know, I know, she makes it seem so easy. But anyone who’s tried to get this outfit formula right knows that dressing up a pair of light-wash jeans is trickier than it looks.

Her trick lies in the pieces she paired with the ankle-length, mid-rise denim. Unlike a standard black blazer, Richie Grainge’s in the shot is a tuxedo-style silhouette with padded shoulders and large, satin lapels that instantly made her appear tenfold more formal. On her feet are simple black sling-backs with a not-too-high but not-too-low stiletto heel. Effortless and yet perfectly put together, the outfit is a true masterclass.

At This Rate, Taylor Swift’s Madewell Blazer Will Sell Out by Friday

If you thought Meghan Markle‘s and Kate Middleton’s outfits had an effect on consumer shopping habits, just wait until you see the impact of Taylor Swift’s most recent fall look. The singer, who’s currently wrapping up the first part of her U.S. tour and stopping home in NYC between shows, was spotted in the West Village outside of 4 Charles Prime Rib, where she had dinner with newlyweds Jack Antonoff and Margaret Qualley. For the occasion, Swift chose an autumnal pairing made up of burgundy Gianvito Rossi ankle boots, a brown corduroy miniskirt from ACNE Studios, and best of all, a cognac-colored leather blazer from Madewell that’s selling at a swift rate similar to any Zara or J.Crew item worn by the two aforementioned royals.

I Love The Row, But I’m on a Budget—These Chic Under-$200 Finds Fit the Bill

Having run the Olsen twins–dedicated blog Olsens Anonymous for over a decade, I am well-versed in their style evolution. For some years now, both Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have been donning outfits almost exclusively with pieces from their own line, The Row. It’s no surprise that the brand has a cult following—the minimal pieces are all painfully chic and can easily be mixed and matched, making for a practical, understated wardrobe. The only issue is The Row is purely aspirational for most due to the hefty price tags on all the pieces.

Thankfully, re-creating the look and vibe of the popular collections can be done in a much more affordable way. While the same luxe fabrics and tailoring may be hard to acquire without the budget, it is easy to find elevated basics and sleek shoes and bags that are in the same vein. Not to mention, we have been graced with nearly identical dupes of some of The Row’s trendiest pieces. Think chic button-down shirts, smart trousers, classic heels, oversize sweaters, luxe-looking shoes, and much more. Keep scrolling to shop 30 pieces inspired by The Row that are under $200.
