  • Another Bilt Mastercard Devaluation Coming, Tax Payments Excluded from Rent Day Bonus

Another Bilt Mastercard Devaluation Coming, Tax Payments Excluded from Rent Day Bonus

    [ad_1]

Tax Payments Excluded from Bilt Rent Day Bonus

Bilt is on a roll lately, and not in a good way. It started with American Airlines being removed as a transfer partner. Then Bilt Rewards ended the Rent Day quiz in August which was an easy way to earn 250 free points every month. And more recently, we learned that the double points earning on dining during Rent Day will be capped to just 1,000 points starting Oct. 1, 2024.

But apparently that’s not the only change happening on that date. Based on an interview with TPG, Bilt will also make another notable change to its Rent Day perks, as flagged by FM. Tax payment will be excluded from bonus point promotions.

Here’s what Bilt shared in that interview:

Was similar information used in the decision to remove bonus points on tax payments as of Oct. 1?

We discovered that bonus points on tax payments during promotions accounted for 20% of our bonus category costs, yet only 0.8% of cardmembers (or 0.12% of our total members) use the card for taxes. That’s why as part of the above Oct. 1 Rent Day update, tax payments will be excluded from bonus point promotions. This allows us to reinvest in benefits that all members can enjoy.

This changed has not been announced anywhere before, although in the interview it. Earning 2X points on tax payments is useful as the lowest fee for using a credit card is 1.82%. That means that you can make a small profit on the transaction, and also increase your spending. Using the Bilt Mastercard for these payments while earning 1X point per dollar doesn’t make sense.

  • Ouch!!! Bilt to Cap Rent Day Double Earning to Just 1,000 Bonus Points

Ouch!!! Bilt to Cap Rent Day Double Earning to Just 1,000 Bonus Points

    [ad_1]

Bilt Rent Day Double Earning 1,000 Points Cap

The Bilt Rewards program has a popular Rent Day promotion that runs every 1st of the month. They have featured offers that vary every month, and some offers that repeat every month.

One of those offers was the Rent Day Quiz which could earn you 250 free points every month. That was axed as of this upcoming August Rent Day.

Now another popular perk is taking a hit, the double earning with the Bilt Mastercard. Cardholders earn double points on all purchases (besides rent) on the 1st of the month.

That means 6 rewards points (3 bonus points) for every $1 spent on net dining purchases, 4 rewards points (2 bonus points) for every $1 spent on net travel purchases, and 2 rewards points (1 bonus point) for every $1 spent on other purchases.

The maximum amount of bonus points you can earn under this promotion is 10,000 per month, regardless of how much you purchase. But effective 10/1/2024, the maximum amount of bonus points you can earn under this promotion will be 1,000 per month regardless of how much you purchase.

That’s a huge devaluation of this benefit, going from a cap of 10,000 points to just 1,000 points. Maybe Wells Fargo is finally putting their foot down?

  • Bilt Could Soon Launch Mortgage Payment Rewards

Bilt Could Soon Launch Mortgage Payment Rewards

    [ad_1]

Bilt Rewards announced Wednesday a $200 million equity investment, led by General Catalyst. This puts the company’s valuation to $3.1 billion.

Launched in April 2022, Bilt began as the first platform enabling U.S. consumers to earn rewards on rent payments. The platform enables rewards at any residential rental property in the United States and has accelerated their growth through the creation of the Bilt Rewards Alliance, which now includes almost four million households.

Members can earn even more when they have the Bilt Mastercard, and they can convert points 1:1 into favorite airline miles and hotel points. Points can also be used for everyday shopping on platforms like Amazon, pay rent, or even apply them toward a down payment.

Over the past year, Bilt has embarked on a strategic expansion through its Neighborhood Rewards program, rewarding members for spending in their local community, including dining, rideshare services, and grocery purchases.

The press release about the $200 million investment, also included a surprising piece of information. Bilt plans to venture into mortgage payment rewards. The company has not shared any other details besides that on sentence in the press release.

It’s not clear what those rewards would look like. But if it’s anything like the rewards that you can earn on rent payments, this should be an interesting development.

  • Bilt Makes Negative Changes to Elite Status Requirements for 2024

Bilt Makes Negative Changes to Elite Status Requirements for 2024

    [ad_1]

    Bilt Changes Elite Status Requirements

Bilt launched its rewards program and credit card back in 2021, with the unique perk of earning reward points on rent. But members also earn points for travel and dining with the no-annual-fee Bilt World Elite Mastercard® (Rates & Fees). Earning is doubled on the first of the month during Rent Day. It’s not required to have the card in order to earn points, but having the card makes it easier to do so.

Based on the number of of points that you earn during the year, you also earn more perks with elite status. And now, as we head into the new year, Bilt announced a major revamp to its elite qualification requirements. These change include a new way to earn status, but overall it is getting harder to move up the tiers. You will have to earn between 100% to 150% more points to reach each elite status level in 2024. Let’s take a look at the details and see how Bilt elite status will work going forward.

    Bilt Elite Status Requirements

Bilt Rewards offers four status tiers. Anyone enrolled in Bilt Rewards gets Blue, and then you can earn your way up to Silver, Gold and Platinum. Through the end of 2023, you can earn elite status with Bilt Rewards based on the number of points you earn within a calendar year. Currently those requirements are as follows:

    • Blue – anyone enrolled in Bilt Rewards with under 25,000 points
    • Silver – 25,000 points earned
    • Gold – 50,000 points earned
    • Platinum – 100,000 points earned

Starting in January 1, 2024, Bilt will offer two different paths to elite status. You can qualify based on the points earned for the calendar year, or your total spend on non-rent purchases. Here are the requirements for next year:

    Tier Qualifying Points
    Blue 0 $0
    Silver 50,000 $10,000.00
    Gold 125,000 $25,000
    Platinum 200,000 $50,000

Here’s what counts for the spending requirement:

    • All non-rent purchases with your Bilt World Elite Mastercard®
    • SoulCycle classes booked through the Bilt app
    • Bilt Dining restaurants when you pay with any card linked in Bilt Wallet
    • Lyft rideshare when Bilt is set as your rewards partner
    • Bilt Travel Portal spending

    Milestone Rewards

Bilt will introduce Milestone Rewards , which ill be available at every 25,000-point increment. There’s no word yet and what that looks like, but they’ll probably go live when the changes kick in on January 1, 2024.

    Important Tips

    • Tier status earned at any point in a year remains active through the end of the following year. So if you earn Gold status by the end of a calendar year, you’ll keep that status in the following year.
    • You must use the card 5 times to earn points each statement period.

    Guru’s Wrap-up

These changes will make it harder to earn elite status in the Bilt Rewards program. While you can earn status through spend starting next year, those requirements are quite high.

For this year for example, I earned Gold status mainly through my rent payments. I just needed a bit more spending which was usually dining. For next year, I would need to earn 125,000 points instead of 50,000, to keep my Gold status. That makes it impossible, since my rent payment will earn me just about a quarter of that. Spending $25,000 with my Bilt card also seems unlikely, so I guess I’ll just settle for Silver.

As for the value of Bilt elite status, currently the main benefit is better transfer rates to travel partners when they run promotions for Rent Day. Next year they promise more perks and benefits, so maybe status will be more valuable.
