To wake up with a glowing complexion, every evening skincare routine needs two things; a trusty smoothing serum followed by a nourishing moisturiser to lock everything in. L’OCCITANE’s bestselling beauty heroes promise just that and more – and I was tasked with putting the brand’s luxurious favourites to the test.
As someone who suffers from dry skin throughout the year, trying out L’OCCITANE’s Overnight Reset Serum was a no-brainer for me. Combining a hydrating formula with barrier-repair properties, the oil-based saviour felt exactly what my skin was crying out for.
L’OCCITANE’S Overnight Reset Serum is suitable for all skin types
L’OCCITANE Overnight Reset Serum – the details
L’OCCITANE’s glowing Overnight Reset Serum works for all skin types, promising to transform your skin overnight and leave your skin feeling refreshed. Made from 100% organic immortelle extract that’s been grown in Corsica, the vegan hydrating serum works to firm and smooth the skin while you sleep, reducing signs of fatigue while strengthening the skin’s barrier.
L’OCCITANE Overnight Reset Serum – first impressions
First of all, like all of L’OCCITANE’s products, the Overnight Serum’s packaging is stunning. It has a luxe-looking ombre appearance with the brand’s signature yellow hues and a purple lid. The oil-based texture glides on beautifully without feeling greasy, leaving a glowing finish, provided by the thousands of golden micro-oil concentrated bubbles that release as the product is massaged into the skin.
The scent is also lovely. It’s fresh and fruity without being overpowering, and it’s hypoallergenic for sensitive skin. I love the classic pump, as I find that pipette droppers can result in using too much product, but L’OCCITANE’s sturdy pump gave me full control of how much serum I was using – and a little goes a long way.
L’OCCITANE Overnight Reset Serum – the results
After several days of applying the Overnight Reset Serum in the evening, my skin is definitely looking brighter. After pairing the serum with the Immortelle Divine Cream, my dry skin looked glowy when I woke up, and it stayed that way even after applying my makeup. If you’re a Gua Sha user, the serum is also great for giving a lovely sheen to the skin and that allows the tool to glide nicely, so it’s found a double purpose in my routine.
What to pair the L’OCCITANE Overnight Reset Serum with
To get the best results from any serum, it’s always wise to follow with a moisturiser, and I’ve been using the L’OCCITANE Immortelle Divine Cream with the Overnight Reset Serum. Described as a ‘naturally-derived alternative to retinol’, the rich cream feels so nourishing on the skin, and it gave me a healthy glow from the first application.
The moisturiser is suitable for day and night, and the consistency is super rich (if that’s your thing). It works to visibly correct fine lines, wrinkles and hyperpigmentation. The creamy texture was exactly what my dry skin needed, so it’s one I’ll be reaching for daily – particularly as the weather gets cooler.
L’OCCITANE Overnight Reset Serum – final verdict
If you’re looking for a serum that will bring dull-looking skin back to life throughout the year, the Overnight Reset Serum is definitely one to have on your radar. It’s hydrating, firming, and smoothing, and the gorgeous scent is one you’ll actually be excited to put on your skin every night. I would recommend pairing it with the L’OCCITANE Immortelle Divine Cream and the two combined left my skin feeling so soft and smooth – and I think they’ll be an absolute saviour for my skin during the autumn and winter.

There is a trend going around on TikTok aptly named “underconsumption-core.” In these videos, influencers discuss how they either plan to or are actively cutting back on their spending, particularly as it pertains to fashion and beauty. For the latter category, people are going as far as starting “project pans,” where they set aside a particular number of products every month, in hopes of using them enough that they start to see the bottom of the makeup’s container.
“I don’t think there’s anyone who has a ton of makeup that’s happy with the amount of product that they have,” TikToker Elysia Berman, who is on a no-buy, where she doesn’t purchase any beauty or fashion items for the entire year of 2024, says in one of her videos on the topic. “They all collectively agree that there was something else at play that caused them to buy that many products.”
For many people who grew up in the heyday of YouTube, beauty haul culture has become somewhat normalized. Still, beauty products in particular feel like one of the easiest ways to satisfy the urge to shop, and as such it’s become customary to see people with makeup collections that span multiple Ikea Alex Drawers and even dedicated beauty rooms. But at what point does all this overconsumption lead to hoarding? And are the products that we buy, especially as it pertains to our beauty routines really as necessary as they’re made out to be?
Keep reading to see how the beauty industry may be sneakily encouraging shopping addictions.
There are a few reasons why the beauty industry makes the perfect entryway into a shopping addiction, and many brands play right into those feelings as marketing tactics. “One reason is the emotional gratification and sense of security that beauty products can provide,” psychologist Carolyn Mair, tells PS. “They often symbolize self-care, luxury, and aspiration, and if our reference groups have them, we might feel a sense of FOMO if we don’t get our hands on those items as well.” Have you ever looked at your favorite influencer rave about a product (or five) and suddenly feel an intense urge to get said item? What about a beauty campaign that seems to touch on every single feeling you’re experiencing at a certain point in time – so much so that it feels like a company is speaking directly to you to buy their product?
“Marketing strategies are designed to create desire for consumers,” Mair says. “The need to satisfy this desire is exacerbated when products are promoted as exclusive or with limited-time availability.” When people claim that something will “sell out” or if an item does eventually become unavailable before you can purchase it, you may feel this strong feeling to get your hands on it even more. That fear of missing out, is a feeling that many brands try to create organically to drive up sales of a product, and therefore, earn more profit for its business. As a result of this FOMO, people may not only want to get their hands on a specific product, but also buy multiples in case they ever run out of their favorite item and can never get a hold of it again.
Luxury Beauty As a Signifier of Wealth
Another reason why it’s so much easier to hoard beauty products is because you can get a similar luxury experience that you would when buying a high-end fashion item but for a fraction of the cost. “Luxury beauty products are more accessible and therefore easier to collect for a broader range of consumers, compared to high-end fashion,” Dr. Mair says. “Buying these items can satisfy the desire for prestige and self-indulgence which give a quick emotional boost and can lead to repeat purchasing. This is more about the feel-good factor than the practical need for the product.”
Remember when Dior blushes and subsequently lip oils were all the rage? One of the main reasons why people were buying these items was because they got to add a bit of luxury to their daily routines. This rhetoric is the same one that is used when beauty enthusiasts and collectors buy $50 Chanel compact mirrors or a $30 Aesop hand cream. The product “helps” to elevate the everyday, and otherwise mundane, experience, making the user appear to be more put together than most. These items also act as a signifier of wealth.
“High-end/luxury beauty brands typically convey exclusivity and prestige which are associated with wealth and status, through their price points, packaging and marketing,” Dr, Mair says. “Celebrity endorsements reinforce this by showcasing these items as part of the glamorous lifestyles of the rich and famous.” This is why it’s such a big deal when celebrities sign on to become the face of heritage brands because it’s essentially two standalone brands merging – creating a broader base of potential customers that will buy the product that they are selling.
The Difference Between Collecting and Hoarding
So how do you know if you just have a larger than-normal makeup collection or if you are actually hoarding products? The difference, according to Mair, is the effect that each behavior has on you. “Collecting and hoarding are distinct behaviors,” Dr. Mair says. “Collecting is driven by an appreciation for aesthetics, brand value, and the joy of ownership. It’s like a hobby or status symbol. Whereas, hoarding stems from anxiety, fear of scarcity, or emotional attachment.”
Collecting items is controlled and purposeful – it’s seen as a mark of prestige and considered to generally be a more positive thing. “Hoarding is compulsive and considered negative due to its association with mental health issues and its detrimental impact on living conditions. The transition from collecting to hoarding happens when the behavior negatively impacts daily life,” Dr. Mair says.
Do you have trouble getting rid of beauty products or feel like you have to have a new item? Has your makeup collection started taking up much more space than anticipated? If so, you may fall within the hoarder category and your compulsion to buy makeup products may be stemming from a deeper issue. To that end, if you suspect that you may have symptoms of hoarding, you can seek help from a mental health or healthcare provider who specializes in treating the disorder.
If you struggle with a shopping addiction, you’re not alone. There’s an estimated 5 percent of the global adult population that considers themselves compulsive buyers. On the plus side, there are ways to get help depending on the severity of the situation like tracking your spending, setting budgets, and more.
“Peer pressure and social media drive us to compare ourselves with others and align with certain beauty trends,” Dr. Mair says. “Buying these products can satisfy the need for instant gratification and boost a feeling of active “self-care,” making shopping for beauty products a popular form of retail therapy.”
Most people want to look their best, and beauty brands have the unique ability to speak directly to physical insecurities. Still, it’s important to note that you need to be able to use the products that you buy. If you have too many, it can become challenging to finish these items before the expiration dates, causing the problem to spiral. So when you’re shopping, it’s important to be mindful of how you plan to consume the beauty products that you’re buying.

One of the pinnacles of summer is Prime Day — Amazon’s two-day super sale where you can score mega savings on basically everything on the site. It’s consumerism at its finest. Just walking down the street, you’ll hear excited murmurs and the happy laughter of friends telling each other about all the super deals they got on Prime Day.
Because if there’s one thing we can’t resist as a society, it’s a good discount. No matter if you need a new television, vacuum cleaner, pink ice cube trays in the shape of bunnies or not, Prime Day makes you act in ways you normally wouldn’t. And all because it’s on sale.
And I’m no different. I love to shop a good sale, especially now that I’m moving and have a few actual needs. Even if I didn’t have a list of items to buy, I’d still find an excuse — any excuse — for retail therapy.
Amazon
From July 16 to July 17, you’ll save on top brands and best-selling products. Rarely do all of these items go on sale at the same time, which makes Prime Day so special. Prime Days usually feature discounts of up to 40%, so you better get your carts ready.
Of course, there are the classic television and electronic deals that your dad may love…but I’m looking for big trends that are on sale, including TikTok favorite recs and more.
If you’re looking to shop Prime Day 2024, but don’t know where to start…here are my favorite deals from Amazon you can shop today! But hurry, Prime Day is only two days long.
I know I said no electronics…but what about appliances? This CREAMi has gone viral because you can make the yummiest of yummy homemade ice cream, gelato, smoothies, and more with no effort involved. Save the trips to ice cream parlors for overpriced scoops… My mom has one and loves it (and yes, the ice cream is really delicious.)
CHI carries salon-quality hair products and tools at extremely reasonable prices. They’re one of my favorite hair brands on the market — are tried and true, have been around for years, are a staple at salons, et cetera. The Spin ‘N Curl makes curling your hair super simple (especially for those like myself who simply can’t use a wand) and quick. If you want beachy waves or big ringlets in no time, this is for you.
Dermatologist-recommended Youth To The People is my go-to skincare brand. From someone who’s tried everything that’s skincare related, Youth To The People’s Air Whip Moisture Cream is lightweight. It’s a great pre-makeup moisturizer, and it’s $12 off.
We’re all making sure our skin is in good shape this summer– and that starts with sunscreen. Yes, unfortunately, your mom and dermatologist are right. You will indeed get wrinkles and skin cancer if you refrain from the sunscreen train. This mini pack is great for your purse or beach bag this summer (and it’s $12 off!)
Hot air stylers are all the rage right now for a reason: better for your hair, quick-n-easy to use, and eliminates the need for separate hot tools. The Shark FlexStyle is a fan-favorite dupe of the Dyson AirWrap, and functions just as well at half the price…plus that extra discount for Prime Day.
We’ve all fallen for the teeth-whitening gimmicks. I’ve done it countless times and always go back to old faithful: Crest Strips. This whitening kit comes with 20 strips and a light to maximize your results. I don’t often plus teeth whitening kits, but this is worth the $30 discount.
Don’t waste your money on expensive speakers that will only break in a year’s time. Amazon Alexa-powered devices are great for room-to-room speakers. Plus, if you buy multiple, you can sync them throughout your home. I love my Echo and they’re always heavily discounted on Prime Day
These alarm clocks will seriously change your life. A clock that helps you develop a healthy sleep routine with customizable options fully curated to your schedule. With multiple sleep sound options, a gentle awakening setting, and a design made for your bedside table…this clock is all you’ll ever need.

The French have been doing pharmacy beauty for years, but Australia is just catching on. However, with so much to choose from, a trip down the aisle at Chemist Warehouse, Priceline or your local pharmacy can be overwhelming. At POPSUGAR, we discover new beauty products every day — so we compiled a list to help you navigate the wonderful world of pharmacy skincare.
Slater CeraVe Advanced Repair Balm 50ml ($14.99) on your face before bed either on its own or over top of your nighttime skincare, and you’re almost guaranteed to wake up with glowing skin. Developed with dermatologists, the balm locks in moisture for up to eight hours. It features three ceramides identical to those found naturally in your skin. It can also be used on the lips and body.
The Ordinary aims to give high-quality, science-backed products are affordable prices. The brand’s best-selling product is its Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 ($15.90), which works to hydrate and plump while smoothing texture and wrinkles. In February 2024, it launched a reformulation of it, with now five forms of hyaluronic acid, a non-tacky, more lightweight texture and the ability to be absorbed into the skin more easily.
Oft-forgotten, the humble toner is a step that can ramp up the effectiveness of your skincare game. There are many toners on the market, but few as reasonably priced and versatile as Thayers Alcohol-Free Rose Petal Witch Hazel Toner (currently $10.70 via Amazon)
Thayers is a perfect hydrating toner for oily, acne-prone and dry skin types. The classic formula contains hydrating rose water, aloe vera and sebum regulating witch hazel for a refreshing toner that leaves skin perfectly balanced.
There’s a lot to be said for (some) skincare brands at the higher end of the price bracket.
Hyaluronic acid is a very effective ingredient. It binds water to your complexion, plumping out fine lines and preventing dehydration that can lead to dullness and breakouts. That said – in this writers opinion, pure hyaluronic acid serums (that is, without additional ingredients added) should not cost the earth. On its own, hyaluronic acid is inexpensive to make, and affordable options are often just as effective.
La Roche Posay is a classic French pharmacy brand loved for its baumes, sunscreens and cleansers. They also have an excellent range of potent serums.
Their Hyalu B5 Hyaluronic Acid Anti-Ageing Serum ($72) is a perfect option for dehydrated, dry and sensitive skin types – and packs a punch with some additional anti-inflammatory ingredients.
The inclusion of vitamin B5, or panthenol, provides antioxidant protection and powerful anti-inflammatory properties for irritated, red skin. The serum also contains “madecassoside”, which is a bioactive compound found in the popular anti-inflammatory antioxidant Centella Asiatica. Isolated, madecassoside has been found to promote collagen production, stimulate blood flow for a radiant complexion and provide similar antioxidant protection to vitamin C, with less irritation.
This beauty writer trials moisturisers for a living — and this gorgeous French body and face baume is one of my favourites. Avène, XerCalm A.D Lipid-Replenishing Balm, (currently $36.49 via Amazon) is formulated to be eczema, dermatitis, rosacea and even nappy rash friendly.
Avène uses “sterile processing”, which extends the shelf life of the product, negating the need for alcohol and preservatives. Instead, skin-identical cer-omega lipids create a “second skin” film that acts as a shield for sensitive, or barrier-impaired complexions.
The secret weapon in this product is the patented l-modulia complex. The biotechnological compound contains Avène Thermal Spring Water and reduces itching, redness and irritation during a skin reaction or sensitivity flare-up. This moisturiser is always by my bedside for when I’m having a skin reaction, or I’m generally dry and itchy. Plus, it’s non-comedogenic and a multi-purpose winner — and at 400mLs per pack, it’s also a bargain.
Weleda, Skinfood ($27) is found in every beauty editor’s cupboard for a reason. The balm was created in 1926 – and the naturally based formula has remained unchanged ever since. It contains organic sunflower oil with calming pansy, camomile and calendula extracts.
This sumptuous salve is perfect for rescuing an impaired skin barrier and providing intense hydration. If you’re looking for a natural alternative to petroleum-based slugging — consider this your answer. Indeed, Skinfood gives such a gorgeous glow that makeup artists frequently use it backstage as a primer and highlighter.
The formula is now available in Skinfood Light ($27), which has the same moisturising and soothing benefits in a fast-absorbing formula for oilier skin types. While you’re at it, check out their Body Lotion, Body Butter and Lip Balm.
If you’re in need of a deeply hydrating but super light moisturiser, Neutrogena’s Hydro-Boost, Water-Gel Moisturiser ($21) is the daily hydration injection for you. Loaded with hyaluronic acid, this water-weight gel soaks in straight away, leaving your skin replenished and ready for sunscreen and makeup.

Is your mum a bougie queen? Has she done you a few big favours in the last 12 months? Whatever the reason, if you’re looking to splurge on your mum, we’re making life easy by rounding up the best luxury beauty treats you can make Mum’s day with this Mother’s Day. So, mark your calendar for Sunday, May 12th 2024, and start hunting for her perfect gift.
Turn your mum’s morning shower into an indulgent experience — just in time for winter. The L’Occitane, Almond Shower Oil ($75) has a warm, nutty scent and transforms from an oil into a silky, luxuriant lather. Mum can consider it her in-shower body lotion.
With a sorbet texture, the Alpha-H, Melting Moment Cleansing Balm ($69.95) lives up to its name, dissolving impurities and makeup in one sweet sweep. This product can be used as an in-shower mask, with a gua-sha tool in front of her favourite “Midsomer Murders” ep or, as it was intended — to melt away the day. The limited edition Australian Davidson plum enriched formula has a soft berry scent making this treatment extra special.
Sophisticated, glamorous, opulent and feminine — if this describes your mum then “Portrait of a Lady” ($563) could be her new signature scent. Not your grandmother’s rose perfume, Perfumer Dominique Ropion blended Turkish rose with patchouli, raspberry, blackcurrant, cinnamon, clove, sandalwood, incense, benzoin and musk. It makes for a fragrance that is as complex, compelling and powerful as the mother who wears it.
Cardamon, cedarwood, leather and musk make SŚAINT, Modus Vivendi ($169) smoky, sexy fragrance, perfect for the Mum who’d prefer a glass of whisky and a good book to a bunch of flowers. You can shop SŚAINT fragrances at The Iconic or have a custom Mother’s Day label via the SŚAINT website.
Dyson Corrale in Limited Edition Vinca Blue and Rose
Yes, it’s expensive but the Dyson Corral ($699) is one of the best hair straighteners money can buy, delivering truly transformative results. What makes it so special? The Corrale uses flexing copper plates that gently shape and gather hair while smoothing the cuticle. The copper plates move with the hair, not against it. This translates to less hair breakage and the easiest curls-with-a-straightener you’ve ever experienced (this writer thought curling with a straightener was impossible until she tried it with the Corrale).
When only the best will do for your mum’s hair, reach for Iles Formula. Founded by celebrity hairstylist Wendy Iles, Iles Formula was originally a private blend, offered to celebrity clientele experiencing hair disasters. Fortunately, the formula was taken to the general public and has won multiple awards. For hair that feels like spun silk, whether natural or colour-treated to within an inch of its life, Iles Formula leaves locks beautifully smooth and soft. We recommend picking up the Signature Collection ($225) collection which includes the original Shampoo, Conditioner and Finishing Serum.
Advanced Night Repair is one of Estee Lauder’s most beloved products for a reason — it works for pretty much every skin tone. Oil-free and deeply hydrating Estee Lauder, Advanced Night Repair ($190) uses a peptide complex to increase collagen production and skin renewal. You can read more about it in our best night serums round up.
For a mum whose skin needs some TLC, Lancôme, Absolue Oleo Serum ($440) is an oil-in-serum hybrid potion packed with Lancome’s proprietary grand rose extracts. It nourishes the complexion while strengthening the skin barrier and soothing irritation. A perfect, cocooning winter treat for your mum.
What’s a luxury product roundup without one of these gorgeous golden bullets from YSL? The Rouge Volupte Shine ($68) lipstick range makes lips look good. That’s because each formula is comprised of 65% nourishing oils and anti-aging antioxidants like pomegranate extract. Supremely comforting and a delight to pull out of your handbag. It’s impossible to be disappointed by this gift.
Easy breezy bronze the By Terry, Ombre Blackstar, Cream Eyeshadow in “Bronze Moon” ($73) is an exceptional option for the mum with zero time, who likes some no fuss, high impact beauty. It’s also great for someone who finds doing eye makeup without her spectacles tricky, Either way, she’ll get a buttery smooth metallic sheen in a waterproof, transfer resistant formula that lasts all day.
As skin ages, focusing on increasing luminosity and texture, rather than covering up should be your goal. Giorgio Armani, Crema Nuda Tinted Cream ($195) makes achieving this goal easy. The formula blends Giorgio Armani’s unparalleled foundation expertise (they brought us the category-defining Luminous Silk Foundation, after all) with a range of skincare benefits. This product creates a veil of coverage rather than a mask, blurring and softening blemishes and lines while improving overall skin condition.
When I was growing up, people would go feral for a sale. Black Friday would roll around, and news stations would set up outside Best Buy, Home Depot, and Target to watch thousands of people at 3 a.m. fight for half-off TV.
I was never the type of girl who could endure the mall on Black Friday. My anxiety gets overstimulated in a regular mall on your average Tuesday…what makes you think I could handle the war that once was Black Friday?
So, I’d wait for Cyber Monday. I would do my online shopping in peace, hoping everything in my cart stays in stock until I’m ready to check out. But since the pandemic, in-person shopping is no longer the more convenient option.
Now that online shopping is the norm, sales aren’t exclusive to in-store shoppers. We can enjoy the mall without leaving our homes — and it’s not like I was trying anything on in-store anyway.
So, it all leads up to one of the best makeup sales in the game: the highly anticipated bi-annual Sephora sale. Since beauty products rarely go on sale — yes, that includes luxury skincare brands like Tatcha and even La Mer — Sephora shoppers are graced with a discount up to 20% depending on your membership status.
If you’re anything like me, you take this sale very seriously. It’s a great time to try that viral makeup product you keep seeing on TikTok, or to stock up on your go-to products. And since products sell out very quickly during the sale, it’s smart to have your cart ready for purchase the moment it starts.
When Is The 2024 Sephora Sale?
Starting April 5 – 15, 2024, all products sold at Sephora stores will go on sale. The Sephora Collection itself will be 30% off for everyone – and with great dupes, brushes, and basics, you’ll definitely want to take advantage.
For Rouge members (those who have spent over $1000 at Sephora in a year), all other products will be 20% off. For VIB members, 15% discount. And for your basic Sephora Insider, you’ll get 10% off your entire purchase.
What Are The Best Products To Get At The Sephora Sale?
Now here we are, on the precipice of a mega-beauty sale – where all of your favorite brands are on sale in the same place, at the same time…and you feel lost.
If you’re wondering what beauty products are worth spending the money on…luckily, I’ve tried most of them. I like to refer to my bedroom as a “mini Sephora” because of the sheer number of beauty products I own. If you need it, I probably have it.
Here are some of my favorite beauty products at Sephora right now!
Whenever I do a blowout with DreamCoat, people ask me if I’ve recently dyed my hair. If you want a no frizz style (even in the summer humidity), this is for you.
Kerastase is salon-worthy for a reason. While it may be on the more expensive side of hair care, it’s genuinely worth it. This will save your damaged hair and bring it back to life.

This year, there is a trend for everyone, whether you are a makeup minimalistlooking to embrace the look of her natural skin or a makeup maximalist who wants to amp up her look with bold, futuristic makeup.
No matter where you fall on the beauty spectrum, you’ll surely find a trend you’ll want to try.
Just remember to view this trend list as makeup inspiration rather than makeup requirements; ultimately, makeup is about expressing yourself and enhancing your favorite features, regardless of what is currently trending.
So, without further ado, read on for the top 10 makeup trends of 2024!
Makeup Trends for 2024
1. Sugar Plum Fairy Makeup
It should come as no surprise that Hailey Bieber started another must-have makeup trend just in time for the new year.
You may remember her signature “glazed donut skin” or “strawberry makeup” looks, but Hailey has now introduced us to “Sugar Plum Fairy” makeup, inspired by her role in The Nutcracker as a teen ballerina.
This feminine, ethereal makeup look instantly went viral on TikTok, and features plenty of pink blush and shimmery eyeshadow and lip gloss, along with a natural-looking base and a light coat of mascara.
Get the Look:
Tap into your girly side with Sugar Plum Fairy makeup — it’s especially perfect for this time of year since the ample amount of pink blush is reminiscent of Cold Girl Makeup, giving it a wintry vibe.
While she doesn’t show the exact products that she uses (other than her now sold-out Rhode Peptide Lip Tint in “Jelly Bean”), you can get the look with any shimmery pink eyeshadow, like this shimmering foil eyeshadow in ballet pink from Lawless, a clean makeup brand. It will melt into your lids to create a high-shine effect and add dimension.
You’ll want your lips to sparkle too, so go for a lipgloss that has shimmer in it, like Makeup by Mario’s Pro Volume Lip Gloss, which has a multi-dimensional shine to it.
When layered over a darker lip liner (while not confirmed, it’s speculated that Hailey used Mac’s lip pencil in the shade “Cork”), the gloss will make your lips look luminous.
2. Sustainable and Clean Beauty
Sustainable and clean beauty is always in!
The ingredients in our makeup matter, as does our makeup’s impact on the planet.
Luckily, beauty brands are taking steps to offer clean and sustainable makeup, with ingredient transparency, eco-friendly and recyclable packaging, refillable containers, and other measures.
Here are some of our favorite clean makeup brands with sustainable initiatives:
Shop Sustainable and Clean Beauty:
Saie Beauty has partnered with a non-profit organization to make recycling their products easy and effective.
After you finish five of their products (their Glowy Super Gel is a personal favorite of mine), you can use their pre-paid shipping label to send your empties to a special sorting facility that ensures the packaging gets recycled properly.
The brand is also climate-neutral certified, leaping bunny certified, and free of potentially harmful ingredients like GMOs, synthetic fragrances, talc, parabens, and more.
Another thing to look out for when shopping for sustainable beauty is refillable packaging.
For example, RMS Beauty’s clean foundation is refillable, so the outer packaging can be reused and eliminates unnecessary waste, plus is made with clean ingredients.
3. Monochromatic Makeup
We wear monochromatic outfits, so why not try monochromatic makeup?
You’ll be seeing a lot of this in 2024, which is good news for makeupminimalists.
Monochromatic makeup means using the same color on your eyelids, cheeks, and lips for a cohesive look. It also means that you don’t need multiple beauty products to achieve this makeup look; a single multi-use product will get the job done by itself!
Not only is this trend budget-friendly, but it will also cut down on the amount of time it takes you to do your makeup.
It’s much quicker to use one product all over your face than to play around with various shades, making the monochromatic makeup trend ideal for mornings when you’re running late for class or when you’re traveling and don’t want to have to pack a ton of makeup items.
Get the Look:
I love how quick and easy the monochromatic makeup look is to achieve — plus how affordable it is since you’ll only need one multi-use makeup product rather than multiple eyeshadows, blushes, etc.
It costs only $5, and its cream-to-powder formula can be used on your eyes, cheeks, and lips (BTW, its small size makes it perfect for tossing into your bag for touch-ups on the go). Blend it with your fingers for a natural flush of color.
It features a metal applicator that delivers a dewy look on the cheeks and a matte finish on the lips, available in flattering warm shades.
4. Natural Brows
Eyebrow trends come and go; over the last several years, we’ve seen them go from ultra-precise and sculpted-looking to super fluffy and laminated.
In 2024, expect to see the return of natural brows.
The good news? This “trend” isbudget-friendly and perfect for low-maintenance girlies who don’t want to invest a lot of time or money into their look.
So, rather than pay to get your brows laminated or shell out for tons of brow makeup products, consider keeping your brows natural-looking this year.
Get the Look:
For natural-looking brows, less is more.
You can leave them totally untouched or use a brow pencil that matches the color of your eyebrows to fill in any sparse areas you may have (rather than also add shape). Kosas makes a great one!
Skip any concealer around your brows — no “carving out” needed here.
As an optional step, brush a flexible, clear brow gel through them for a bit of hold, minus the crunchiness or stiffness.
This simple brow technique will shorten your makeup routine and give you an effortless, natural look.
5. Thin Eyebrows
The other brow trend for 2024? Thin eyebrows.
I know it couldn’t be more opposite to the natural-looking brow trend, but hey, at least you have options!
Inspired by the thin eyebrow beauty standard of the ’90s, this look has been gaining popularity thanks to stars like Doja Cat, Bella Hadid, Gabbriette Bechtel, and a certain viral TikTok filter.
Just like all trend cycles, things that were once in style tend to come back into fashion all over again at a later time. So it’s no surprise that after the last few years of fluffy, brushed-up, laminated brows, ’90s-inspired thin eyebrows are back to make a bold, contrasting statement.

Of course, you could pluck or wax your bows to achieve the ultra-skinny brow look, but TBH, I wouldn’t recommend it.
Eyebrows are notorious for *not* growing back, so I’d avoid taking that risk — especially if, down the line, you’ll want fuller-looking brows again.
You can try out the skinny eyebrow trend temporarily by using some full-coverage concealer instead of hair removal, which could yield permanent results.
By applying a matte, full-coverage concealer (the NYX one above is also waterproof!) along your brows, you can conceal them to your desired thinness and get this look minus the long-term commitment.
6. Graphic Eyeliner
The future is now with bold, futuristic-looking graphic eyeliner looks hitting the beauty scene in 2024.
Experiment with unconventional designs, brightly colored hues, and shimmery, holographic touches, which are the ultimate way to stand out in a crowd.
Celebs like Storm Reid and Ariana Grande are fans of this look, whether with colorful shades or by playing with blank space around the eyes.
This makeup trend will allow you to tap into your creative side and think outside the box when doing your makeup — anything goes so have fun!
Get The Look:
Liquid eyeliner is the key to achieving a graphic eye look, as it will allow you to “paint” on the liner without needing to blend or tug on the skin around your eyes.
Classic black liquid liner works, but you can take it up a notch with a product like Fenty Beauty’s Glitty Lid Shimmer Liquid Eyeliner, which comes in three metallic jewel tones featuring smudge-proof shimmer.
If you’re worried that you won’t be able to create your own graphic eyeliner look, no worries: Simmihaze Beauty’s Eye Play Glitter Packdoes all the work for you!
Simply stick the glittery designs onto your eyelids, and you’ll instantly achieve the graphic eye look… no eyeliner skills necessary.
7. Skin-Like Base
In 2024, real skin is in!
Gone are the days of wearing heavy, full-coverage, matte foundation. Instead, embrace your real skin by opting for light coverage products like skin tints, tinted moisturizers, and BB creams.
The goal is to *enhance* your skin rather than completely cover it up — and if you’ve been nurturing your skin with a solid skincare routine, why not show it off?!
Get the Look:
A skin tint with a natural finish like the Summer Fridays Sheer Skin Tint is going to give you a more even-looking complexion but feels weightless on the skin.
The Summer Fridays tint provides a sheer tint of color to diminish any redness and or pores, but its sheer-to-light amount of coverage, plus its hydrating properties (including vitamin E and squalene), make it feel more like skincare rather than makeup.
Wearing SPF every day is a must, and Ilia’s Super Serum Skin Tint offers mineral SPF 40 protection, along with potent skincare benefits and light coverage.
The serum, which is infused with active skincare ingredients, is safe for sensitive skin and can improve the look of your skin over time; plus, it leaves a dewy, natural finish.
8. Shimmery Lids
Turn up the sparkle in 2024 with shimmery eyelids!
This makeup trend is perfect for nights out on the town or anytime you are dressing up and want to go for a glam look.
Pack on a shimmery eyeshadow across your main lid space, or start with a matte shade and add a shimmer shadow over top for a similar effect.
Also, consider eyeshadows with metallic, holographic, and iridescent finishes.
This eyeshadow trend works in just about every hue imaginable, but Selena Gomez’s shimmery ice blue eyeshadow look is especially fashion-forward (expect to see tons of blue eye makeup looks in 2024).
Get the Look:
It’s time to shine: don’t be afraid to pack on the glitter and shimmer across your eyes this year.
You can opt for eyeshadows that are already sparkly, like NYX’s Ultimate Glow Shots Liquid Eyeshadow. The liquid formulation is going to give you a brightening, shimmery look without flaking or fallout and is available in bold hues, including this blue shade similar to Selena’s.
Another option that can transform any plain eyeshadow into a shimmery one is to use a sparkly topper, like Urban Decay’s cult-favorite 24/7 Moondust Glitter Eyeshadow. You can use it alone or layer it over a matte eyeshadow for a luminous look.
Makeup by Mario’s Master Crystal Reflector is ideal for those who prefer a less intense (but still sparkly) look. It offers a translucent wash of shimmer for a spotlight effect on the eyes without colorful pigment.
9. Two-Tone Lips
Will you be daring enough to try two-tone lips in 2024?
If so, you’ll be in good company with Megan Thee Stallion, who rocked this makeup trend at a recent event. Her top lip featured a darker shade, while her bottom lip had a lighter shade, creating a two-tone effect.
There are many variations that you can try out, from fully contrasting colors to colors that have only a subtle difference in tone.
This creative lip trend also involves plenty of shiny gloss, which will add to the attention-grabbing lip look.
Get the Look:
If you want to get Megan’s exact lip look, you can use the exact Revlon products listed in the breakdown above, including the Colorstay Matte Lite Lip Crayon in the shade “On Cloud Wine.”
Start with lining both your top and bottom lip in the same shade of lip liner, and then apply the lip crayon to only your top lip for a bold look. (The same can be done with a lipstick or lip stain, too).
Then, apply clear lipgloss to both of your lips, like Fenty Beauty’s Gloss Bomb, a non-sticky and ultra-glossy option that has a luminizing effect.
10. Faux Freckles
While faux freckles are not necessarily a new makeup trend, this look has ramped up in popularity and is set to be huge in 2024.
Faux freckles evoke the summery vibe of being sun-kissed and give off the impression of natural, makeup-free skin (which ties back into the skin-like base trend we discussed earlier).
Of course, if you naturally have freckles, all you have to do is embrace them rather than cover them up with full-coverage foundation or concealer. Lucky you!
But if you are freckle-free and want to try out this look — like Sydney Sweeney did — check out the products below.
Get the Look:
You may be thinking about dotting an eyeliner pencil all over your face, but the key to achieving realistic-looking freckles is to use a product with the right formulation.
Freck’s The Original Freckle pen will create faux freckles that sink into your skin or foundation rather than sit on top like eyeliner would, while Marylia Scott’s “What the Freckle?” is a water-resistant option that you’ll be able to wear at the beach this summer.
Don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty, either: the most natural-looking faux freckles can be created by using your fingers to blot the product around your face for a subtle, realistic effect.
You can also use these products to enhance any beauty marks or freckles you already have for a bolder look!

It took less than 24 hours for people to lose their mind.
On Wednesday of this week, Burt’s Bees announced a buzzy, yet unholy, partnership with Hidden Valley Ranch, declaring it was releasing a four-pack of lip balms that tasted (we’re not making this up) like buffalo sauce, celery, carrots and ranch dressing.
All of this started with an April Fool’s joke, when the two companies proposed the corporate mash-up. That should have been the end of that, but the internet proceeded to do its thing and willed the product into existence.
The four-pack, which sold for $12, promised to leave the flavor of whichever balm you chose on your moisturized lips. It came with the disclaimer “NOT FOR CONSUMPTION. Obviously.”
This was, as you might imagine, Hidden Valley Ranch’s first foray into the beauty category.
Burt’s Bees, like Oreos and Coca-Cola, has been rolling out a large number of alternative ‘flavors’ in the past year. The company introduced a Cranberry Spritz lip balm in the walkup to the holidays as well as the flavors chai tea, pumpkin spice, vanilla maple, and pomegranate.
The diversity plays to the company’s loyal base, who are fans of the lip balm, but interested in trying exotic versions of the product. Hidden Valley Ranch fans, meanwhile, will gobble up virtually any new and bizarre product the company offers.
Two years ago, for example, the company worked with New York-based Van Leeuwen Ice Cream to release, yes, a ranch-flavored ice cream. And a few years prior to that, it offered a keg of ranch that contained five liters of the salad dressing.

If you’re anything like us, then you probably spend much longer than you care to admit scrolling through TikTok. From discovering beauty tips like the lip gloss eyeshadow hack to finding easy and affordable recipes, there’s so many videos to keep us entertained and, sometimes, confused. You’re also likely to have seen content creators talking about the TikTok shop. Not only is the social media app full of weird and wonderful viral crazes, but it’s also a place where you buy your fave mascara.
Although you might have seen it popping up on your FYP, you might be a little sceptical about buying via the same app that you go down a rabbit hole about reincarnation (just us?) But it’s worth getting clued up about what it is and how to use it, especially if you’re a beauty fan. While there’s lots available through TikTok shop, from tech to parenting goodies, it’s the beauty realm that has really taken off. From independent TikTok-famous beauty brands generating a buzz to big-name retailers launching exclusive products, it’s time to get clued up on TikTok shop.
What Is TikTok Shop?
TikTok shop ultimately allows users to buy products through the social media app. It launched in the UK in 2021 and has grown by a huge 295 percent in the last 12 months (to November 2023), so it’s on the rise and going nowhere.
Content creators (with over 1000 followers) and retailers can recommend products and brands on their short-form videos, allowing followers to click on the shopping basket icon while watching the video to purchase the products mentioned with a quick click.
There’s also the opportunity to shop through curated products via the showcase tab of a content creator or seller, browsing a list of products that can be purchased in-app with a simply click. Plus, users can go live allowing followers able to buy mentioned products in real-time. Think of it as the social media version of a shopping TV channel.
Why Should I Use TikTok Shop?
First and foremost, it’s easy. Perhaps a little too easy. We’ve all been victims of late-night scrolling on TikTok and, with a simple click, you could have a niche foundation arriving on your doorstep before you know it. But in our ever-growing busy lives, it’s a seamless, fuss-free shipping experience. Particularly handy if you’ve been frantically searching for the best Christmas gifts for mums and stumbled across the Dyson Airwap on your FYP.
There’s also the opportunity for us to see products being used on a diverse range of content creators. Particularly for the beauty community, it’s helpful to see products used on different skin tones and hair types, for example, helping you to make more of an informed purchase. Of course, it’s worth bearing in mind that content creators will earn a small amount of commission from your purchase and may be being paid by the brand to promote its products, so keep an eye out for hashtags and follow creators who you trust.
Plus, there’s more brands that are set to offer exclusive deals and products on TikTok shop. Maybelline launched its Lifter Plump Gloss exclusively on the app in November, for example, so it’s worth keeping an eye out for viral products that you’re able to purchase while scrolling.
What Brands Use TikTok Shop?
There’s huge amounts of beauty brands available via TikTok shop, and there’s set to be more in 2024. According to Cosmetify, Huda Beauty is the most popular makeup brand on the app and The Ordinary is the most popular skincare brand, with products available to buy through the shop. There’s Gen-Z brands like e.l.f. Cosmetics, who recently tapped up TikTok-famous Caity Baser to front its campaign, as well as smaller start-ups like Mallows Beauty.
Is TikTok Shop Safe?
Like with anything online, it pays to do your research. Sellers are vetted by the TikTok app and fraudulent ads are removed as soon as possible, but sadly that doesn’t stop scams from happening. Check reviews of content sellers and make comparisons elsewhere.
All products bought on TikTok shop should be new. TikTok itself doesn’t sell products, it facilitates the sale, so any issues need to be taken up with the seller directly. In general, TikTok shop is safe to use, but it’s worth being mindful of authentic offers and being wary of any too-good-to-be-true offers.

Trends such as backless tops and cutout dresses are more prominent than ever — and finding the right boob tape is a necessity. Even though skin-baring designs are so popular, your favorite strapless bra may not always work for them. If you decide against going braless and freeing the nipple entirely, there’s a handy invention you need ASAP. We’re talking about breast-lift tape, which helps you comfortably and confidently step out in the cutout dress of your dreams.
Boob tape is a popular alternative to bras because it can shape your breasts into your preferred form. The tape’s strong adhesive holds your breasts in place, making it essential for braless outfits. The ideal breast tape shouldn’t irritate your skin or feel painful, but it might take several tries before you find “the one.” Not sure how to use boob tape or where to find the best one on the market? Keep reading for all the need-to-know info, with expert advice from Victoria’s Secret Chief Design Officer Janie Schaffer, who helped launch the lingerie giant’s boob tape for the Bare collection.
How to Find the Right Boob Tape
Schaffer recommends starting with skin tone. “Body tape is meant to act as an extension of your skin, so choose tones that are complementary. If your tape were to accidentally show, you know at the very least that a tape is not so obvious,” she says. Next, experiment with different tapes and the outfit you wish to wear. This will help you determine how seamlessly your top layers over the strip and whether you spy any wrinkles. This will also be a great test for the amount of support you require.
Does Boob Tape Work For Small Breasts?
A common misconception is that boob tape only works for large busts. In reality, breast tape can support other chest sizes, whether they match small, medium, large, or extra-large bras. “If used properly, it’s a great essential for all different-size breasts,” Schaffer says. “The most important thing to consider is placement, support, and the amount of coverage. It’s all in understanding your proportions and utilizing the tape in a way that suits your needs.”
What’s the Best Boob Tape For Plus-Size Women?
For someone with a curvier shape, a boob tape with a stronger adhesive is preferable, as this can offer support and lift. Again, it’s all about testing a range of products to find the most form-flattering option for you.
How to Apply Boob Tape
Apply boob tape on clean, dry skin that’s free of lotion and skin-care products that contain alcohol or skin-irritating ingredients. Protect the areola and nipple with nonadhesive padding, such as cotton rounds or nursing pads. Apply the breast tape (which should easily stick to your skin), and tada — half the battle is won!
The removal process involves loosening the adhesive by massaging a cotton ball dipped in olive oil or Vaseline on the edge of and underneath the tape. A warm shower may do the trick. Once the tape is removed, be sure to rehydrate your skin with your go-to moisturizer.
How to Style Boob Tape
While it’s best to only use it for special occasions to reduce the risk of potential skin damage, the best boob tape will help you achieve your desired look. Any top with a plunging neckline or revealing cutout — from a V-neck blouse to an open-front cardigan — will pair well with breast tape, as do open-back dresses and tops. Schaffer suggests employing the when-in-doubt mentality and opting for boob tape over a bra when it feels right: “Even when a bra can be worn, body tape offers a backless, line-less, strapless solution that can be customized for every wearer.”
How to Wear Nipple Covers
Certain strapless or asymmetrical styles might call for nipple covers, which can be worn in addition to boob tape or on their own (see Lady Gaga’s hot take on pasties at the 2022 Critics’ Choice Awards). Nipple covers typically take up less surface area than boob tape, often covering only the areolas.
Ahead, shop the best boob tape for any occasion. We vetted each option to make sure they’re effective, easy to apply, and as painless as possible to remove.
There’s no one I want to show more appreciation toward than my son’s teachers. All of them. The aids. The gym and music teachers. The volunteers. Heck, we even made a thank-you gift for the janitor.
And it doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. Homemade gifts show that you and your little one took the time to make something for them, and they can cost very little. Here are some quick ideas for homemade teacher appreciation gifts.
Custom wine labels. Yep, I gave my kid’s teachers wine. Because they deserve a drink. They got wine at the holidays and are getting wine again. I made up quick labels that said “Thanks for helping our kid learn how to think, Now it’s time to have a drink.”
We also made small pedicure kits for my son’s teacher and teacher’s aide. We bought items at the dollar store (a fun summer cup, nail file, polish, toe separators, etc.) and attached a small tag that says “Have a toe-tally awesome summer.”
His music teacher is getting a small canvas where the bean painted some musical notes. Yes, they’re not to scale (pun intended), but they were created by him.
For his two gym teachers, they’re getting mason jars filled with gumballs and a label that says “I had a ball in gym.” Just a small token to show our appreciation.
And finally, the janitor. My son had his heart set on getting him a trophy, which we found a plastic one at the dollar store. Then we glued a tiny mop to it (from my old dollhouse), although we were going to just make one from a small skewer and some thread. The janitor seemed very touched.
Don’t spend an arm and a leg. And do show your gratitude. Even a box or tin of homemade treats or cookies would surely brighten their days.

We looove decorating Easter eggs. And we like experimenting with egg decorating methods even more. There are so many ways to pretty up those little eggies. So, here are 7 cool ways to decorate Easter eggs:
– Plain ol’ paint. Put on a smock, cover the table in newspaper or a plastic disposable tablecloth, break out some paints and brushes, and go at it the old-fashioned way.
– Add easy details: Use elastic bands around the eggs to create lines. Apply stickers to keep certain silhouettes. Colour the egg with a white crayon before dying it and watch your design shine through.
– Shaving cream eggs. Spread an even layer of shaving cream on a baking sheet, add drops of food colouring, and swirl gently with a toothpick. Then, very carefully “roll” the eggs over the surface of the coloured shaving cream for a cool tie-dye effect.
– Wrap the eggs in a damp paper towel and, using an eyedropper, apply drops of colouring. You’ll see the lines and streaks created by the folds of the paper towel.
– Decoupage your eggs. Cut out your favourite (little) comic book or other cartoon characters and, using a mixture of glue and water, apply them to the eggs.
– Glue googly eyes to your eggs for some funny characters. You can hand-draw the rest of the face with permanent markers. Add feathers, pipe cleaners, stickers, glitter or glitter glue, and more.
– Once you’ve hardboiled your eggs and they’re still warm, use a crayon to melt wax over your eggs. The dripping effects look really cool!

I was never a “brand” person. When it came to household items, beauty products, etc. I preferred trying something new than having any sort of loyalty to a specific brandname. But now that I’ve had time to weed through many various products, I find there are things I need as I get older.
I need a good all-purpose cleaner I love. It needs to work hard (so I don’t have to) and I need it to smell good. That’s why I ADORE anything from Mrs. Meyers. They are hardworking household cleaners, hand soap, and body care products that are made with cruelty-free formulas containing essential oils and natural ingredients. Not only are they effective but they smell absolutely incredible!
I need a good facial cleanser. Now that I’m in my 40s, I find my skin to be trickier than ever, with dry spots as well as oil spots. A good cleaner for morning and night is a must, and I really like the the Cleansing Balm from Motter. It’s a 3-in-1 transformative cleansing balm that is formulated with 80% antioxidant-rich botanical butter and oils. It deeply nourishes skin and easily removes make-up when warmed into a cleansing oil, emulsifying into a hydrating cleansing milk when in contact with water. It’s never drying and it doesn’t strip your skin of its moisture.
I need a good moisturizer for my face. Enter The Ordinary’s Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides. It’s the second of six new formulations to launch under The O. Lab. This is a richer moisturizer than most in that it can be used by those with dry or dehydrated skin, or those looking for additional barrier support, which I need after months of cold, dry weather.
I need a good face serum. That includes the face serums from BKIND. They have different formulas depending on your needs, whether you want to soothe, illuminate, or refine your skin (I love the brightening face serum with dragon fruit extract and squalane). Their nail polish is also incredible and very durable – I hand-wash all my dishes, garden, craft, and play hard with my hands, and my nails look great for up to two whole weeks.
I need comfy indoor footwear. Because I work from home and have mostly hardwood floors, I’m always looking for a great, comfortable indoor shoe or pair of slippers. The Cushion Homey Snuggles from Reef live up to their name: it’s the perfect combo of slipper and shoe. They have a cushiony footbed lined with cozy faux shearling that keep tootsies warm and comfy, and an easy on/off upper made of toasty, 100% recycled wool felt. They offer support and ultimate wear all day long.

Work environments aren’t limited to traditional offices these days. Many opt to work anywhere with Wifi to create a better work-life balance. Others travel extensively for their jobs, heading from city to city with few home stops in between.
When traveling for work in any capacity, it’s convenient to have a “go” bag packed with your favorite beauty essentials. It takes the guesswork out of packing and ensures you are stocked up before boarding your next flight.
Here are ten must-have beauty items to keep you looking polished and professional wherever you are.
1. Face cleansing wipes
A pack of travel-sized face cleansing wipes can easily be tucked into a carry-on and used in a pinch. Get rid of dirt, grime and old makeup easily when a full facial cleanse isn’t an option. Find wipes with soothing ingredients like aloe or eucalyptus to perk up the senses and calm the skin.
Also, make sure they’re alcohol-free to avoid stripping the skin of needed moisture post-flight. Simple Exfoliating Facial Wipes with aloe vera, pro-vitamin B5 and vitamin E are gentle yet effective for all skin types. When you’re in a hurry but need to wipe the slate clean, so to speak, these will be your saving grace.
Studies show people sleep better in dark, quiet environments, which makes an eye mask and earplugs an essential travel combination. It’ll help you sleep more comfortably on a plane, train and in your hotel room.
It’s easy to fall off your natural sleep cycle when traveling from time zone to time zone, which is the first thing that will affect how you look and feel. Protect your sleep schedule for the sake of not only your beauty routine but, more importantly, your overall health.
It’s amazing what a swipe of lipstick or tinted lip balm can do to make you feel immediately put together. A bold color can feel empowering, while a neutral tone can add just enough of a hue to feel poised and ready to go. Remember to keep lips moisturized by sloughing away dry, cracked skin and applying a lip treatment at night. Then, tuck a favorite shade into your “go” bag and keep a reserve at home so you’ll always be prepared. Get the pigmentation you desire with the hydration you need to keep lips flake-free.
4. Dry shampoo
Dry shampoo buys time between washings to keep hair looking and smelling fresh. Adding dry shampoo gives a boost to limp locks and helps out with oily strands. Spray directly at the root and allow the product to absorb before styling. It’s a simple solution to give life back to your hair when stretched for time. Plus, it keeps hair from drying out from washing it too much.
A go-to for travelers is Act+Acre Plant-Based Dry Shampoo. Its clean, scent-free formula does the trick when heading straight from the plane to an important meeting or from a day in the office directly to a business dinner. Plus, the small travel-sized container can be discreetly tucked away and pulled out to use whenever needed.
Climate changes can quickly dry out the skin leaving behind a tired appearance. A lightweight moisturizer keeps skin healthy, supple, and bright. Choose one with SPF for sun protection and a formula designed for your skin type. Neutrogena’s Healthy Skin Face Lotion contains SPF 15 and alpha-hydroxy acid to boost skin tone.
Also, if you want to limit the use of a heavy foundation, a tinted moisturizer works as a good substitute, such as EltaMD UV Daily Tinted Broad-Spectum SPF 40. It provides light coverage without the caked-on finish foundation can often have if the skin is too dry.
6. Eye drops
Those who wear contacts already know the importance of eye drops when traveling. However, even if you don’t need glasses, eye drops soothe tired eyes after a long commute or after hours of looking at a screen. There are several name-brand options, but generic eye drops work just as well to brighten up the eyes and keep them from feeling so dry.
Mascara is one of the top beauty essentials many refuse to leave home without. It’s another product to pack to make the eyes pop. Opt for a smudge-proof formula like CoverGirl Smudge Proof Mascara that’ll stick with you during a day of travel without smearing. Add a few coats but avoid layering it on too thick to keep the look natural and business-appropriate.
8. Concealer
A hydrating under-eye concealer helps to camouflage dark circles and instantly brighten up the face. The trick is to tap the product into place rather than rubbing it back and forth with a brush or beauty sponge. CoverGirl Turblend Undercover Concealer is ideal for all-day wear, providing a matte finish. Use the third finger to dab it under the eye and smooth it out gently. A concealer stick is important when traveling for work to keep the face looking fresh.
A blush stick provides a two-in-one advantage when used as a blush and eye shadow and doesn’t require a brush to apply. Stick to a neutral shade like the Charlotte Tilbury Moon Beach blush stick, a peachy, rose gold hue, and use clean fingertips to blend into the cheekbones for a natural-looking flush. Work situations don’t necessarily require a full face of makeup; sticking with a few beauty essentials can keep you looking polished.
10. Dental floss
Though floss may not be deemed a true beauty essential, it’s necessary to have it with you at the ready. Nothing is worse than experiencing an entire meeting or client dinner with food stuck between the teeth. Never get in this type of compromising position (and subsequent embarrassment), and remember to add it to your bag.
Consider these ten beauty essentials part of your travel arsenal to prepare you for wherever your work travels take you next.
Learning how to take care of curly and coily hair is a journey in itself, and finding the right shampoo is just one part of that — but it’s also a foundation for everything.
Shampoo does the essential work of clearing away debris on the scalp like dead skin cells, natural elements (like dust) and sebum (the oil that skin naturally produces) as well as any products in your hair. Without a good cleanser, built-up dirt and hair products on the scalp can lead to frizziness, irritation and hair loss. This is true for anyone, but those with curly and coily hair textures have their own specific needs when it comes to shampoo.
On curly hair textures, sebum takes much longer to travel down the hair shaft compared to straight hair. Thus, curly hair doesn’t need to be washed as often because it doesn’t get oily as quickly. And it can dry out if it’s over-washed – some of those oils are actually good, going a long way toward protecting strands.
“You want your shampoo to be nutrient-rich, formulated for your scalp and hair’s needs, free of harsh sulfates or chemicals and you should be able to identify natural ingredients on the label,” says Ebony Bomani, the brand educator at Pattern by Tracee Ellis Ross. “It should effectively clean your hair without stripping it. Afterwards, your hair should be lustrous, look and feel clean but not brittle or crunchy.”
Below, we break down what to look for in order to get the best results and recommend some top picks.
How to Find the Best Shampoo for Your Hair
The best shampoo for you depends on three main factors: curl pattern, texture and porosity.
Curl pattern is typically matched up to a hair type scale from 1A to 4C. Curly and coily hair patterns lie in types 3 and 4; type 3 describes loose-to-tight curls, while type 4 describes tight to super tight coils. The curlier the hair, the more moisture it needs. The other two factors — texture and porosity — help narrow down the best ingredients and hair routine.
Texture describes the “diameter of your strands” within a range of fine to thick, Bomani says. You can look at your own hair strands to judge its texture: Fine hair is more prone to breakage and works best with lightweight products; with thick hair, there’s more liberty, since the strands can withstand heavier formulas.

Porosity, Bomani explains, “refers to your hair’s ability to absorb and retain moisture” via how open (or “porous”) your hair follicles are, from low to high. Low porosity hair doesn’t absorb water or products like oils and conditioner as quickly, which can make it seem harder for products to ‘work.’ High porosity hair, on the other hand, is able to quickly absorb water and products, but it’s also quick to lose them.
“All of these factors are important to know when creating a hair-care regimen and selecting effective products,” notes Dr. Kari Williams, a trichologist who’s also a member of DevaCurl‘s Expert Curl Council. “Hair care is not one size fits all, and will require different products and styling processes to reach hair-care goals.”

To get the best results from shampoo, Dr. Williams advises following a specific application process: “I recommend applying the shampoo directly to the scalp. Massage with the pads of your fingertips until the lather builds. Avoid piling the hair on top of the head, because this increases the chance of the hair tangling or matting. Instead, make sure the hair strands are flowing in one direction while shampooing and rinsing the hair.”
Understanding Different Shampoo Types
“Shampoos are formulated to cleanse the hair and scalp. You want to look for a surfactant that will lift and remove dirt and oils from the hair,” says Dr. Williams. “Sulfates are a widely used surfactant but can be drying and irritate the scalp, so look for alternatives like sodium cocoyl glycinate or SLSA (sodium lauryl sulfoacetate). Also, look for moisturizing ingredients like essential and plant-based oils, emollients like aloe vera and vegetable oils which help to increase and add shine to the hair.”
There are three main types of shampoo for curly and coily hair patterns: intensive, mildly cleansing and co-wash.
Intensive shampoos are best for those who need a heavy-duty clean to reset after weeks of buildup. Mild cleansers can be great for anyone’s hair routine, since they cleanse the scalp without drying it out. Co-wash is an ideal option for the in-between stage, when hair could use a light cleansing but doesn’t need a full wash. All three can be helpful for everyone, but if you want to have room on the shelf, our experts advise that it’s probably best to stick to the regular, mild cleanser.

“Shampooing and conditioning are paramount. However, co-washing can be beneficial, especially if you workout often and want to refresh your scalp and keep your hair moisturized and manageable between wash days,” notes Bomani.
She says you can tell when products work well if your hair flourishes after use, or if hair appears “softer, stronger, more vibrant and [has] a natural luster and shine.”
Even if you have a shampoo that works well for you, it can still be a good idea to experiment with new formulas, “especially if you feel you’re no longer getting the same results with your products,” Dr. Williams says. “It’s not that your hair ‘gets used to the product,’ but the condition of the hair can change as a result of hormonal changes, health changes and weather changes.”
