  • Golden Globes 2026: The complete winners list

    Globes never say die!

    Five years after a Times investigation dulled the shine of the glitzy Hollywood affair, the 83rd Golden Globe Awards, airing Sunday, will cap off a multi-day series of events and tributes now dubbed “Golden Week.” It appears neither controversy nor potential conflicts of interest have been enough to keep this party down.

    Comedian Nikki Glaser, who delivered a good time as the emcee of the 2025 awards, has once again been tapped to host the star-studded ceremony. Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another” and Joachim Trier’s “Sentimental Value” are among the top film nominees, notching nine and eight nods each, respectively. On the television side, “The White Lotus” and “Adolescence” earned the most nominations with six and five nods apiece, respectively.

    Actors Helen Mirren and Sarah Jessica Parker were already honored during Thursday’s “Golden Eve” special. Mirren, whose prolific career has included portraying a number of British monarchs, was presented the Cecil B. DeMille Award, while Parker, of “Sex and the City” fame, received the Carol Burnett Award.

    The live 2026 Golden Globes telecast kicks off at 5 p.m. on CBS and Paramount+.

    How to fast travel with the Battle Bus and Bus Stations in Lego Fortnite

    The Battle Bus arrived in Lego Fortnite as of an August 2024 update, giving the option for limited fast travel between Bus Stations.

    How to build Bus Stations in Lego Fortnite

    The Bus Stations you’ll need to summon the Battle Bus to your Lego Fortnite island are a high-level item. You’ll need to have reached the snowy Frostlands biome to build one.

    You’ll need:

    Those first three ingredients are easy enough to find in Frostlands biomes, but the last one — rift shards — a new and unique. Let’s talk about them.

    Where to find rift shards in Lego Fortnite

    Rift shards are a unique resource that you can only get by destroying Bus Stations (more on this in a second). Since they’re made out of high-level (Frostlands) materials, you’ll need an epic pickaxe (8 obsidian slabs, 5 frostpine rods) to deal any damage.

    To destroy one, you’ll need to find said bus stations.

    Where to find Bus Stations in Lego Fortnite

    The short answer is that you find Bus Stations by exploring the world.

    You’ll find one near your world’s spawn point. Beyond that, all we can say is that they seem exceedingly rare. When you’re close to one, you may hear a low pulsing sound. Better yet, you can look for the blue light on the roof (especially at night).

    Why can’t I destroy Bus Stations in Lego Fortnite?

    As of August 7, there’s currently a bug that makes the naturally spawned Bus Stations — the ones you have to destroy to collect rift shards — indestructible. Even in sandbox mode. You can destroy any Bus Stations you build yourself in sandbox mode, but there’s currently no solution for survival.

    That means that there’s no way to gather the necessary rift shards at the moment. You can still use any Bus Station you find to fast travel to the Rebel Base, though.

    Measures in Springfield that would ban hemp-derived cannabis beverages in Illinois — a move that the state’s breweries say would have dealt a big blow to operations — did not go forward. That includes legislation that would have begun regulating delta-8 and other forms.

    All parties involved, including Gov. J.B. Pritzker, say the issue will come up again during the next session — the growing industry needs rules, they argue. In the meantime, the summer should provide some data in terms of how popular THC-infused drinks can be in Illinois. Observers believe the state could generate larger sales — and tax dollars — compared to Minnesota. Minnesota, whose lawmakers have embraced the drinks, has become

    THC drinks have been a lifeline for struggling breweries aiming to diversify revenue streams. Breweries say they were caught off guard by bills that were introduced to regulate the THC industry — actions they say they support — and then altered to crush their business. There’s the belief that no one wants the drinks truly banned, but larger players want to weed out smaller competitors that were first to market before introducing their own brands.

    Security patrols backed by Boka, LEYE, and One Off start in West Loop

    It’s been a year since news that some of Chicago’s major restaurant groups — Boka, Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises, and One Off Hospitality Group — were organizing to deploy private security patrols in West Loop and Fulton Market. The owners of restaurants including the Publican, Aba, and Girl & the Goat, have gotten their wish. Block Club Chicago reports P4 Security Solutions is working with the groups and patrol SUVs have been spotted outside the restaurants in those neighborhoods.

    The restaurants are part of the Fulton Market District Improvement Association, and the patrols are “entirely funded by contributions from businesses and organizations.” Security guards carry handcuffs and are armed. Their shifts extend to 3 a.m., according to Block Club. Chicago police have launched nightlife or “entertainment patrols” in areas like Wicker Park and the Near West Side. P4 is supposed to augment that and serves Bucktown and Lincoln Park. Greektown is another area that has its own patrols.

    Springfield keeps the tipped minimum wage

    Observers who witnessed One Fair Wage’s efforts in Chicago to abolish the tipped minimum wage could see this building. Lawmakers in Springfield did not move forward with the measure to abolish the tipped minimum wage statewide, but the campaign is still going national. The National Restaurant Association, which earlier in May hosted its annual show in Chicago, is gearing up its opposition to the effort. After lawmakers finished their session in Springfield ended, the association sent a statement to Eater defending the tip credit (a government subsidiary fills in the gap, and allows restaurants to pay workers below the minimum wage) as a “win-win-win for tipped restaurant workers, restaurant operators, and customers.”

    “This win for Illinois restaurants will help keep menu prices down and will protect the jobs and high-earning potential of tipped workers in vibrant Illinois restaurant communities,” a statement from NRA Executive Vice President for Public Affairs Sean Kennedy reads.

    North Center diner closed after a Thursday fire

    Irene’s Finer Diner in North Center is closed indefinitely after a fire on Thursday at 2012 W. Irving Park Road. The owners announced the news on Friday morning: “We’re deeply saddened to share that due to a recent fire, we are forced to close for further notice. We are very grateful that no one was harmed. We’ve put a lot of heart and sweat into this diner, and will keep you posted on when we can welcome you once again for breakfast.”

    Tourists on a boat in Australia were left stunned as they watched a pod of orcas chase and attack a group of sperm whales. A rare video shows the “titans of the ocean” battling.

    Naturaliste Charters took a boat of tourists to Bremer Canyon for a whale watching expedition on March 19, the company wrote in a Facebook post. The boat quickly arrived at a “hotspot” to find a pod of orcas foraging.

    Then, “with a large splash … everything changed,” the company said. The pod of orcas “began to pick up speed” and chase something.

    The pod chased its target for just over 7 miles, herding the target into shallower water, Naturaliste Charters wrote in an Instagram post.

    When the hidden target finally surfaced, “what we saw left our jaws gaping,” the company said. They saw “the unmistakable arched back and tail of a sperm whale.” Four more sperm whales eventually surfaced.

    Sperm whales are massive deep-sea predators with a gray body, pointed teeth and a block-like head.

    Naturaliste Charters shared a video of the rare encounter on Facebook on March 26. In the video, the gray sperm whales are seen huddled together as orcas circle around them.

    “The group of sperm whales appeared distressed and exhausted,” the company said, but they quickly began splashing their tails to fend off the orcas. Video footage shows the churning waters.

    Suddenly, the whale watchers saw a “large dark bubble” of something reddish brown erupt from around the sperm whales, and an orca surfaced with a chunk of meat in its mouth. The video shows this murky bubble and the orca with its hard-won meat.

    Soon after, the orcas called off their attack and moved away. “The mood onboard became solemn as we processed what may have just unfolded in front of our eyes,” the company said. “Had the orca really just taken down a sperm whale?”

    After the trip, the company looked closer at the photographs and videos of the fight. A different picture emerged.

    “What was originally thought to have been a bubble of blood exploding on the surface has since been confirmed as feces,” the company said. “Sperm whales are known to defecate when threatened … The cloud of diarrhea created when the whale waves its tail through its poo appears to deter predators and in this case, seemed to work!”

    The meat the orcas took was likely squid, the company said, either “stolen from the sperm whales’ jaws or regurgitated (by the sperm whales) in a defensive effort to relinquish a potential attack on themselves.”

    These two “titans of the ocean” are rarely seen battling, Naturaliste Charters said. For a long time, people assumed sperm whales and orcas were too evenly matched for the two predators to attack each other.

    The whale watching company said the intense encounter was “an immense privilege and a reminder of just how wild these animals and this place are.”

    Bremer Canyon is off the southwestern coast of Australia.

    In March, for the first time since 2018, Chef Paddle Battle, a ping pong competition between Chicago chefs that raises money for charity, will take place. A variety of factors, including the pandemic, wiped out the annual event held at SPIN Chicago in River North.

    This year’s event, Monday, March 4, brings together 30 chefs to raise money for Culinary Care, a charity that provides restaurant meals to cancer patients and their families. The group has worked with a variety of chefs through the years to organize fundraisers. The event is open to the public, giving fans a chance to meet the chefs. Three drinks are included in the ticket price; there’s also an open bar option.

    In past years, the audience has been treated to feats such as the exploits of Proxi and Sepia chef Andrew Zimmerman, who has dominated the field. Rivalries have been known to form and a new one is about to bubble up between a veteran and a rookie. It could be the next big Chicago food rivalry, on par with Lou Malnati’s versus Giordano’s or Harold’s vs. Uncle Remus.

    Jake Potashnick’s Instagram handle is “notyetachef.” The Chicago native has traveled around the world cooking at restaurants and plans to open his own, Feld, soon in West Town. Potashnick has poked the bear, namely S.K.Y. and Valhalla chef Stephen Gillanders. The young chef playfully taunted his friend, claiming that he would take Gillanders down if they two were to play.

    “I’m just thrilled that my crushing of Stephen can support an amazing organization like Culinary Care,” Potashnik texted.

    The two donned WWE personas in a text thread over the weekend when questioned about their budding rivalry. Potashnick joked the loser would have to leave West Town.

    “Unfortunately for you, Jake, a true rivalry requires a worthy adversary,” Gillanders texted to the thread. “I will crush you and your paddle. Going full Forrest Gump on you.”

    Potashnick responded: “Look, I believe that Stephen is a very good ping pong player. But we’ve all heard the underground rumors of blood doping… Anything for an edge up that ol’ Gillanders.”

    Gillanders responded humbly: “My genetic superiority, intelligent-yet-approachable wit, and face-melting dance moves have been a pressure point for years now amongst my competitors,” the chef writes. “While I outright refuse to provide a blood sample, I deny all allegations.”

    The event, held on a Monday when many restaurants are closed, gives chefs a chance to socialize. While Potashnick jokes about starting “a lifelong death-match style ping pong rivalry” with Gillanders, he also writes that he’s grateful that chefs like Gillanders have welcomed him back home.

    SPIN hosted Paddle Battles in 2017 and 2018 and its return is seen as a sign of recovery for River North and Downtown Chicago. And while Gllanders and Potashick throw gasoline on their rivalry, ping pong isn’t just about winning. Many chefs of Asian heritage take the competition as a point of pride given the sport’s popularity overseas.

    For Bayan Ko chef Lawrence Letrero, the game is nostalgic. He played in college and has a lot of rust to shake off: “I haven’t played in years,” he texts. “I’m going to suck.”

    Win or lose, it’s for a good cause. Kimski chef Won Kim will even DJ.

The current headquarters, along with its three Houston schools and Kansas City franchise school, teaches breakdancing, DJ, and graffiti art to over 500 students. Amidst the COVID-19 crisis, Break Free effectively managed to create an interactive, online course curriculum with its current student body. The iBreakFree Experience has its students focused, inspired, and motivated while at home with live-stream sessions with their instructors and graded assignments relating to their art-form. This week, Break Free Worldwide is expanding the “iBreakFree Experience” to a multi-continents-level initiative through the Break Free Worldwide 2020 Championship.

    The Worldwide 2020 Breaking Championship spans all over the globe, grouping the competition in four major regions: the Americas, Europe, Asia Pacific, and Africa East. Passionate and professional B-Boy and B-Girl athletes from all over the world will have a shot at the $35,000 in cash prizes. Break Free Worldwide is receiving applications from each region via a video-submission to register and will ultimately select 512 competitors to enter the live battles. Taking into consideration the unprecedented times, the six-day live broadcast will be free for viewers worldwide and will include storytelling elements along with the action-packed, live-stream broadcast. A portion of the proceeds raised from the event will go towards Autism Awareness while creating a special-needs dance class for Houston area youth with autism.

    The theme for the Worldwide Championship is “Create Your Escape in SOULidarity.” The impact achieved through this event will effectively unite the global dance community, beginning April 21, 2020, at 8 a.m. CT, when the first round of the Championship goes live.

    At the BreakFree virtual staff meeting, founder Moises Rivas and Chairman Ionel Nechiti shared their beliefs in support of this unique event, obtaining full support from high-level influencers that expands BreakFree’s presence into all global regions, empowering General Manager Jeremy Peña to move full speed ahead with the countdown of the worldwide event, building up the emotions to announce the final winner live on April 26, 2020.
