  • Ugochukwu Scores Career-High 23, Leads No. 9 Michigan State Over Penn State 76-72

    [ad_1]

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Divine Ugochukwu scored a career-high 23 points and No. 9 Michigan State overcame a sloppy performance to beat Penn State 76-72 on Saturday.

Jaxon Kohler posted his fifth double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds while Carson Cooper added 10 points for the Spartans (9-1, 2-0 Big Ten), who committed a season-high 17 turnovers and trailed for long stretches in both halves.

They were able to bear down, however, and avoid a second-straight loss after falling to No. 4 Duke on Monday.

Freddie Dilione scored a career-high 22 points, Kayden Mingo added 11 and Ivan Juric had 10 for the Nittany Lions (8-3, 0-2), who led by as many as nine in the first half and then by three with five minutes left four days after getting blown out by Indiana 113-72.

But thanks to some timely shooting by Ugochukwu, who went 8 for 10 from the floor, including 5 for 5 from 3-point range, Michigan State quickly made up its 39-36 halftime deficit against a team that usually plays the Spartans tightly.

Seven of the last nine games in the series were decided by single-digits. With six lead changes, including four in the final 12 minutes, this one was trending that way until Ugochukwu got open early in the second half and again down the stretch.

The sophomore made the Spartans’ first three shots in the opening three minutes of the second, then sunk his fourth 3-pointer with 3:27 left to give Michigan State the lead for good.

Ugochukwu provided some cushion and made it 72-67 with his final deep make just over 2:30 later.

Dilione made a jumper and added a 3-pointer to get it back to a two-point game, but Ugochukwu nailed a pair of free throws with eight seconds left to seal the Spartans’ fifth-straight win against Penn State.

Michigan State hosts Toledo on Tuesday.

Penn State and Pitt play on Sunday, Dec. 21, at the GIANT Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

  • This Kobe Bryant Basketball Just Blew Away an All-Time Record at Auction

    [ad_1]

The basketball Kobe Bryant played with to win his first-ever NBA championship was just auctioned off for $508,000 at Sotheby’s. That makes it the most expensive championship-winning ball to date, according to the auction house.

The ball was autographed by Bryant and fellow former Los Angeles’ Lakers teammates like Shaquille O’Neal. They used it during their victory against the Indiana Pacers in Game 6 of the 2000 NBA Finals, where the final score was 116 to 111. It was the team’s first title since 1988.

Brahm Wachter, Sotheby’s head of modern collectibles, said seeing Bryant’s first championship ball next to one of his jerseys from high school was “mind-blowing.”

“For the first time, Sotheby’s has transformed The Breuer (a Manhattan museum) into a world-class showcase of sport, bringing together nearly $30 million in historic memorabilia from the icons who have defined athletic excellence,” Wachter said in a statement, according to the New York Times. “The exhibition captures the evolution of greatness across generations.”

Bryant had scored 26 points and clinched 10 rebounds and 4 assists in that game. He said afterwards that it was “everything and more,” according to the New York Post

“Lakers colors falling from the ceiling, the fans going crazy,” Bryant said. “I got the hat on and everything covering my fro, it feels great.”

O’Neal earned the team 41 points, snagging 12 rebounds and blocking four balls. Bryant went on to win five championships, and O’Neal four.

  • Batman returns (to practice): Steph Curry rejoins Warriors after quad injury

    [ad_1]

SAN FRANCISCO – Jimmy Butler likes to refer to Steph Curry as “Batman,” an otherworldly talent who can bail the Warriors out of many a tough spot.

After a five-game absence caused by a left quad injury suffered on Nov. 26 against the Rockets, Golden State’s superhero is set to return during Friday’s home game against the Timberwolves.

The Warriors will have had four days off between Sunday’s blowout victory in Chicago and the matchup with Minnesota, thanks to the NBA Cup schedule.

Curry spent the last three road games working out with the Warriors’ medical staff in the Bay Area and practiced with the team at Chase Center on Wednesday afternoon.

“For Friday, he’s day-to-day, but it’s looking good,” coach Steve Kerr said.

Curry was a full participant in practice, and was involved in the team’s scrimmage.

Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry (30) pauses as he holds his leg in pain in the fourth quarter of an NBA game against the Houston Rockets at Chase Center in San Francisco, Calif., on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2025. (Ray Chavez/Bay Area News Group)

The team survived Curry’s absence, going 3-2 and putting up a surprising 2-1 record on the most recent Eastern Conference trip to Philadelphia, Cleveland and Chicago.

Unheralded 29-year-old guard Pat Spencer was a revelation as an athletic and energetic pick-and-roll guard, scoring in double-figures in each of the last four games while starting twice.

Spencer will head back to the bench as Golden State’s franchise player returns, but still expect him to get plenty of minutes.

“I think it’s the shooting, the threat from long range,” Kerr said of Spencer. “He’ll be in the rotation for sure.”.

In his 17th season, Curry has remained an elite player. He is averaging 27.9 points and 4.0 assists per game while shooting 39.1% from behind the 3-point line.

He has scored at least 30 points in seven of the 16 games he has played this season, including three 40-point games.

His next 40-point game will break a tie (44 games) with Michael Jordan for the most games with at least 40 points scored since turning 30.

  • Grading The Week: Nuggets’ Jamal Murray sure looks like NBA All-Star to us

    [ad_1]

It’s Jamal Murray’s Team World. The rest of us are just living in it.

Or rather, living in the glow of what might be the Nuggets guard’s best-ever start to a regular season — best statistical start, at any rate.

While the Nuggets themselves are coming off a schizophrenic and inconsistent week, to put it kindly, after home losses to Sacramento and San Antonio, the Blue Arrow has quietly been tying a bow around his most productive November ever.

Friday night’s 37-point performance against the Spurs at Ball Arena pushed No. 27’s scoring average over his first 12 games of the month to 23.2 per contest — easily his best clip for the month of November since the COVID-19 pandemic.

    Jamal Murray: budding All-Star — A-minus.

From Nov. 1-Nov. 28, Murray was connecting on 48% of his attempts from the floor and 40.4% from beyond the arc. As of Saturday morning, his November averages were 23.2 points, 7.3 assists and 3.0 treys per tilt.

If that sounds like a healthy jump from a year ago at this time, that’s because it is. Murray in November 2024 averaged 17.8 points, 6.7 dimes and 2.2 3-point makes over 10 games. In November 2023, Maple Curry averaged 12.5 points, 6.3 assists and 1.5 treys over just four appearances.

Given that Murray is a historically slow-(ish) starter, Team Grading The Week (GTW) wanted to pause form stuffing our respective faces with turkey sandwiches and tip some collective caps in the Blue Arrow’s direction.

For one, Murray promised that a dedicated summer of good health plus a intense workout schedule would lead to a better opening two months of the regular season. He’s been true to that word — so far, so good.

For another, here’s hoping that yet another tweak in the NBA’s All-Star game format opens up a window for Murray to finally make the cut at age 28.

Instead of conference-vs.-conference matchups, the main competition on ASG weekend will be a Team USA vs. Team World tourney. Only instead of two teams, there will be three teams comprised of eight players, with no positional restrictions, who will face off in a round-robin format.

With Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (32.6 points, 6.6 assist per game as of this past Friday) almost a lock to take up at least one Team World backcourt spot, Murray is going to have to keep this pace up to join his fellow Canadian at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, Calif., come mid-February. But with each passing week, Murray gets that much closer to crossing the threshold from almost to All-Star.

    Tad Boyle’s still got it — A.

New DU men’s hoops coach Tim Bergstraser sure got the GTW crew’s attention earlier this month by beating CSU Rams and Ali Farokhmanesh in FoCo. Steve Smiley’s UNC Bears men’s basketball team improved to 6-1 this past Wednesday with a victory at Air Force. Thanksgiving weekend means we’re going to finally get some meaty inter-conference matchups on the hoops front, and no local men’s team has stepped up over the past few days the way GTW’s old pal Tad Boyle has with CU.

Between Nov. 21-28, the Buffs (7-0) knocked off UC Davis at home by 16, then went to Palm Desert, Calif., for a holiday tourney — taking out a good San Francisco team by 10 and following that up with an 81-68 victory over Washington on Friday thanks to Bangot Dak’s 15 points and 11 boards.

It’s too early to draw deep conclusions on the men’s hoops front locally, but not too early to dream. As of late Friday night, CU’s good week had moved the Buffs up to No. 65 on KenPom.com’s computer rankings, just ahead of CSU at No. 68. With both rivals needing a “name” win on their respective resumes before Christmas, the Rocky Mountain Showdown at Moby Arena on Dec. 6 figures to be, to paraphrase Russell Wilson, awfully spicy.

  • No. 5 LSU Sets NCAA Record With 7th Straight 100-Point Game, Beating Marist 113-53 at Paradise Jam

    [ad_1]

SAINT THOMAS, Virgin Islands (AP) — No. 5 LSU set an NCAA record with its seventh consecutive 100-point game Friday night, routing Marist 113-53 in the Reef Division semifinal game at the Paradise Jam tournament.

LSU (7-0) bested the 43-year-old NCAA record of six straight 100-point games, set by the 1982 Louisiana Tech squad that went on to win the inaugural NCAA women’s championship.

That team was led by an All-American point guard, Kim Mulkey – the same Mulkey who coached the Tigers to the NCAA title in 2023, and whose team is among the contenders to compete for another crown in the spring.

Seven players finished in double figures for LSU, led by ZaKiyah Johnson’s 19 points. Reserve Kate Koval had a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Flau’Jae Johnson and Amiya Joyner added 16 points apiece. MiLaysia Fulwiley, Grace Knox and Jada Richard each had 11.

Justine Henry had a game-best 21 points and Lexie Tarul added 11 points for Marist (2-5).

Flau’Jae Johnson, one of two first-team all-Southeastern Conference returnees on the Tigers’ roster, scored the record-breaking basket, putting in a layup with just over six minutes left in the fourth quarter for a 101-40 lead.

Mulkey went deep on LSU’s bench, with all 11 players scoring as the Tigers shot 53% from the field and made 15 of 18 free throws.

LSU: Will face Washington State in the Reef Division’s championship game Saturday night to wrap up the 2025 Paradise Jam. The Cougars (1-6) won their first game of the season in Friday’s first semifinal game, holding off Miami (Ohio) 71-67.

Marist: Will play Miami (Ohio) in the third-place game.

  • Wagner brothers are teammates, roommates and best friends living out their NBA dream with the Magic

    [ad_1]

Franz Wagner fell in love with basketball as a kid in Germany when he went with his older brother, Moritz, to watch an under-19 game in Berlin.

The Wagner brothers hadn’t even thought about playing professionally at that point. Local hoops was their first exposure to the sport and they were hooked.

Fellow German Dirk Nowitzki became their connection to the NBA. Watching documentaries on Dwyane Wade and Kevin Garnett got their attention.

Now they’re in their fifth season as teammates on the Orlando Magic.

“I remember our grandparents built a little basket in front of the house, and we would always play no matter the weather,” Moe Wagner said. “And then I think Franz got a LeBron James Cavaliers jersey for Christmas, and I got a Kevin Garnett jersey, one of those nonauthentic fake jerseys. And I wore them to every practice. I wanted to wear the gear. I wanted to be part of that lifestyle and that is when we started watching YouTube videos and games and we kind of became obsessed with that idea of maybe wanting to do that ourselves as well.”

Playing basketball came easier for the Wagners than soccer or other sports.

“At the start, especially growing up in Germany, it was just purely (playing for) the fun of it,” Franz said. “Having those moments in practice where stuff is making sense, maybe more sense than in other sports that we’ve played prior, and then once we got kind of wind of the NBA and how big of a platform that is and how big of a production, I think that’s when the wheel started turning pretty quickly for both of us that the dream of playing there one day and going to America even and just seeing their culture, I think that kind of started a little bit later.”

There are 13 sets of brothers currently playing in the NBA, including Giannis, Thanasis and Alex Antetokounmpo on the Milwaukee Bucks. It’ll be 14 when Seth Curry is signed. He’s expected to eventually join Stephen on the Golden State Warriors.

The Wagners are four years apart and never played on a team together at any level until the NBA. Moe Wagner was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers with the 25th pick in the 2018 draft. The 28-year-old, 6-foot-11 center bounced around from Los Angeles to Washington to Boston before the Magic signed him in April 2021.

Franz, who followed his brother to Michigan, was selected by Orlando with the eighth pick in the 2021 draft. The 24-year-old 6-10 forward is a top player, averaging 22.9 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.

“My situation was a lot different than Franz,” Moe said. “He was freshly drafted. I had just gotten waived the year before. So that was a challenge, which in retrospect, I actually really enjoyed having a brother with me, even though it was kind of a challenge because he obviously, when the organization drafts a player, they put everything into him. And you’re like, look at your younger brother. It’s like, damn, I wish I had that opportunity, but at the same time, you’re super happy. And in retrospect it actually helped me to define myself as a player a little bit as well, and I’m very grateful for the opportunity.”

The Wagners are not only teammates but they also live together.

“I think it was a no-brainer for both of us to live together because we missed some valuable time when he went to college, and just because of basketball, obviously, being super busy,” Franz said. “So we’re super happy to get some of that time back. But at the same time, we’re also working together. So that dynamic is a little bit different. You’ve got to make sure you don’t bring the frustration sometimes from work home. And then we’re also adults now. So, I think our relationship has changed a great deal in a positive way in the last couple of years.

“And I think that took us one or two years to kind of figure out how to talk to each other in a working environment, figuring out this is the face that he’s making when he’s mad and maybe you leave him alone for a second and vice versa for other stuff. I think it’s just been a great experience just to get to know each other as adults on a really close level, which I think other siblings don’t have that opportunity, especially in this type of work.”

While Franz plays a big role along with Paolo Banchero, Desmond Bane and Jalen Suggs for a Magic team expected to contend in the Eastern Conference, Moe Wagner is still recovering from a torn ACL sustained on Dec. 21, 2024. He was playing some of his best basketball at the time of the injury and was in the final year of his contract. Despite the injury and lengthy rehab, the Magic signed him to a one-year, $5 million deal in July.

“I’m going to get this all the way right,” Moe said. “I don’t expect anything to change, other than play winning basketball.”

Perhaps he’ll be back before the Magic and Memphis Grizzlies play a game in Berlin on Jan. 15.

“This is probably one of the coolest things that I will ever experience in my career,” Moe said. “I’ll speak for myself and Franz here because I know that he doesn’t ever express it the way that I do, but that’s very meaningful for us. Our family, our friends, people that we weren’t able to take on this journey with us to America, get a chance to see us play. Family members get a chance to see us play. That means a lot. We grew up in that gym. We grew up with that club. So, to have this opportunity, to have the league and the Magic figure this out is very meaningful to us.”

  • Cameron Boozer Scores 35 Points as No. 4 Duke Tops No. 22 Arkansas 80-71

    [ad_1]

CHICAGO (AP) — Cameron Boozer had 35 points and nine rebounds to help No. 4 Duke hold off No. 22 Arkansas for a wild 80-71 win on Thursday night.

Boozer went 13 for 18 from the field at the United Center — the same place his father, Carlos, called home while he played for the Chicago Bulls for four of his 13 NBA seasons. Cayden Boozer also is a freshman on the Blue Devils, and Carlos cheered on his twin sons from a courtside seat.

Caleb Foster had 15 points and eight assists for Duke (8-0), which is off to its best start since it winning its first 11 games of the 2017-18 season. Patrick Ngongba II added 11 points.

Darius Acuff Jr. scored 21 points for Arkansas (5-2), and fellow freshman Meleek Thomas finished with 13. Trevon Brazile had 11 points and 11 rebounds.

After trailing by 13 in the first half, the Razorbacks used a 10-3 run to take a 60-53 lead with 10:09 left. Thomas capped the spurt with a 3-pointer.

But Duke delivered down the stretch. Ngongba’s basket gave the Blue Devils a 66-64 lead with 5:20 remaining. Foster made a big 3-pointer with 2:31 to go,

Cameron Boozer began to assert himself in the final minutes of the first half. He made two 3-pointers, converted a driving layup and picked up an assist on Dame Sarr’s dunk during a 10-0 run that gave Duke a 32-22 lead with 5:11 left.

The Blue Devils had a 41-35 lead at the break after the Razorbacks closed the first half with a 7-0 spurt. Cameron Boozer had 15 points at halftime on 6-for-9 shooting.

Arkansas hosts No. 6 Louisville on Wednesday night.

Duke hosts No. 10 Florida on Tuesday night.

The No. 4 Duke Blue Devils (7-0) travel to the United Center to face the No. 22 Arkansas Razorbacks (5-1) in a CBS Sports Thanksgiving Classic college basketball matchup.

How to Watch Duke vs Arkansas

    • When: Thursday, November 27, 2025
    • Time: 8:00 PM ET
    • TV Channel: CBS
    • Live Stream: Fubo (try for free)

Duke has been dominant thus far, racing out to an undefeated record. Only a 12-point win over No. 24 Kansas at a neutral site appeared to test the Blue Devils. Most recently, Duke has demolished Niagara (100-42) and Howard (93-56). In the win over Howard, Duke held a 52-18 halftime lead, ultimately coasting to the final score. Cameron Boozer played a nearly perfect game, shooting 10-for-12 from the field to score 26 points with 12 rebounds, four assists, and two steals in 26 minutes of action.

While Arkansas can still boast a phenomenal overall record, the way they’ve gotten there hasn’t been without concern. A four-point win over Samford, followed by a one-point win over Winthrop (both at Bud Walton Arena), gave reason for pause, but the Razorbacks’ most recent win (115-61 over Jackson State) renewed some enthusiasm. Arkansas shot a remarkable 69.8% from inside the arc against Jackson State, led by Malique Ewin, who scored 21 points in just 14 minutes off the bench, making 8-of-9 from the field.

This is a great NCAA College Basketball matchup that you will not want to miss; make sure to tune in and catch all the action.

  • Warriors Star Stephen Curry Will Be Sidelined at Least a Week With a Quad Injury

    [ad_1]

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Warriors star Stephen Curry will be sidelined for at least a week with a right quadriceps contusion and strained muscle after getting injured during Golden State’s 104-100 loss to the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night.

He had an MRI exam after the game and the Warriors said Thursday that Curry would be reevaluated in a week — meaning he likely will miss at least three games. Golden State’s medical staff and coaches typically use a progression of building back up in practice before an injured player returns to game action, so it could be longer before Curry is on the court.

“Nobody wants to get hurt, especially that one,” teammate Jimmy Butler said. “Obviously we go as far as he goes, but we want him to be right so we have the best opportunity to be great. I think we can hold the fort down for a couple of days.”

The 37-year-old Curry, in his 17th NBA season, and Houston’s Amen Thompson went down hard under the basket with 3:24 remaining and the game tied at 91 after Thompson’s drive to the hoop, which initially was whistled an offensive foul. Houston challenged and the call was overturned to a block by Curry — who grimaced in pain on the floor. He limped to the locker room with 35.2 seconds left.

“Everybody’s got to do just a little bit more, nothing too drastic, everybody plays just a little bit better and collectively you hope that’s good enough to win,” Brandin Podziemski said.

Coach Steve Kerr said he could see Curry ailing after the play. The two-time MVP finished with 14 points on 4-for-13 shooting — 2 of 9 on 3-pointers — seven rebounds, five assists and seven of the Warriors’ 16 turnovers that led to 22 Houston points.

“It obviously changes everything, our rotations, how we’re playing, who we’re playing through, so we’ll see,” Kerr said after the game. “When I heard it was a quad I was actually kind of relieved, better than an ankle or a knee, so hopefully he can recover quickly and be OK. But we’ve got to hold down the fort.”

The Warriors’ depth might be tested given guard Gary Payton II sprained his left ankle earlier in Wednesday’s game.

Butler said “it’s just sad” how the Warriors don’t follow their game plan and do the little things sometimes and challenged everybody to “care more” about the details — especially if they’re without Curry.

Butler said he won’t change his approach.

“I don’t care about offense, we need to guard somebody,” he said. “We’re good to score, but I don’t want the offense if we’re missing shots to dictate not going and guarding on the defensive side of the ball. I’m going to play the exact same way, but we’ve just got to guard.”

  • Stephen Curry Bruises Right Quadriceps in Warriors’ Loss, Will Have MRI Exam

    [ad_1]

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Stephen Curry limped away from the bench late in Golden State’s 104-100 loss to the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night after bruising his right quadriceps. He will undergo an MRI exam on the injury to determine his status.

The Warriors will have to regroup with the idea that Curry might be out for a stretch.

“It obviously changes everything, our rotations, how we’re playing, who we’re playing through, so we’ll see,” coach Steve Kerr said. “When I heard it was a quad I was actually kind of relieved, better than an ankle or a knee, so hopefully he can recover quickly and be OK. But we’ve got to hold down the fort.”

Curry and Amen Thompson went down hard under the basket with 3:24 remaining and the game tied at 91 after Thompson’s drive to the hoop, which initially was whistled an offensive foul. Houston challenged and the call was overturned to a block by Curry.

Kerr said he could see Curry ailing after that play. The two-time MVP finished with 14 points on 4-for-13 shooting — 2 of 9 on 3-pointers — seven rebounds, five assists and seven of the Warriors’ 16 turnovers that led to 22 Houston points.

“That’s a challenge, if Steph is out everybody else has to kind of improve their game a lot to fill that void,” rookie Will Richard said.

Guard Gary Payton II also suffered a sprained left ankle that limited him to just under five minutes.

  • Young people reaching ‘New Heights’ on and off basketball court

    [ad_1]

BROOKLYN — New Heights is creating lifelong change in New York’s youth through their very own passion for sports. Using basketball as a tool for growth, the organization empowers kids to be successful both on and off the court.

“New Heights was founded because every young person deserves an opportunity .. .our goal is to help create that,” said New Heights executive director Ted Smith. “Whether that’s on the court or in the classroom, we want to help kids succeed in life.”

The organization combines basketball with personal and professional development services to support their students in any track of life they find themselves walking. Their signature program, College Bound, is a prime example of using the kids’ passion to prepare them for the rest of their lives. Through tutoring, test prep, application support, campus visits, and so much more, New Heights follows through on their promise to give often underserved kids a leg up in an otherwise difficult landscape.

Thanks to the organizations emphasis on basketball, the students find more than just an education here; they find a second home. Dayo Olowokere, a student athlete, remarked: “I can’t imagine what my life would be without New Heights. That’s why I am who I am today.”

“We’re always looking to grow our family,” Smith said. “If you love basketball, it’s a great tool…use it to better your life.”

  • Oklahoma college basketball player dies after suffering injury during game in Texas

    [ad_1]

A basketball player at a junior college in Oklahoma who was injured during a game has died, school officials said.

Connors State College sophomore Ethan Dietz died Tuesday after he was injured during the second half of a game Saturday in Texas, the school said in a statement posted to its Facebook page. A spokesperson for the college, Shannon Rigsby, said initial reports indicate Dietz suffered some kind of head injury, but that she didn’t have any more information.

“Ethan exemplified what it means to be a Cowboy, to value hard work and being part of a team,” according to the statement from the school. “While the team and the Cowboy community are processing our own grief, our hearts go out to his family and friends.”

Dietz scored six points and grabbed four rebounds in his final game against Grayson College before suffering the fatal injury.

Messages seeking comment were left Wednesday with the college’s athletic director and men’s basketball coach.

Dietz was a 6-foot-8 forward from Vilonia, Arkansas, who was averaging 11 points per game through eight games so far this season, according to the team’s website.

“Ethan’s loss reminds us all how precious life is and how much those around us impact our lives,” the school said in its statement. “As we move through this loss together as a community, let’s be inspired by Ethan’s spirit, friendship and love.”

A vigil in his honor was scheduled for Dec. 1 at the college’s campus in Warner, Oklahoma.

Chris Bell had 22 points and six rebounds and was named Most Outstanding Player, Dai Dai Ames hit two late 3-pointers on the way to 14 points, and California beat No. 18 UCLA 80-72 in the Empire Classic championship game

SAN FRANCISCO — Chris Bell had 22 points and six rebounds and was named Most Outstanding Player, Dai Dai Ames hit two late 3-pointers on the way to 14 points, and California beat No. 18 UCLA 80-72 on Tuesday night in the Empire Classic championship game.

Justin Pippen added 13 points with his former NBA star father Scottie in the stands as the Golden Bears earned their first win against a top-25 opponent since beating 21st-ranked Colorado 76-62 at home in Haas Pavilion on Feb. 27, 2020.

Trent Perry scored 19 points and Eric Dailey Jr. added 17, but UCLA cost itself by shooting just 13 for 23 on free throws in a matchup of the longtime Pac-12 Conference opponents.

Bell reached double figures for the sixth straight game with a third 20-point performance to reach the 1,000-point mark for his career. His baseline 3-pointer with 14:43 remaining put Cal up 49-46 then he converted a pair of free throws the next time down.

Perry’s three-point play with 1:59 before halftime put the Bruins up 40-33 before Pippen answered with a 3 from the top moments later. The game was played at Chase Center, home of the NBA Golden State Warriors.

Cal (6-1) had lost 12 of the previous 13 meetings with the Bruins going back to January 2017.

Skyy Clark was held to seven points and limited because of foul trouble.

The Bruins have an extended break before playing their Big Ten opener at Washington on Dec. 3 to begin a December schedule with six West Coast opponents.

Cal returns to action Dec. 2 at home against Utah.
