  • Sticky, Saucy Chicken Drumsticks Made in the Slow Cooker

Need a dinner everyone will actually agree on? These slow cooker chicken drumsticks are sweet, saucy, and unbelievably easy with minimal prep.

plate of juicy Slow Cooker Chicken Drumsticks
    • Flavor: Each bite of drumstick is coated in a smoky, sweet BBQ sauce with a hint of spice.
    • Skill Level: This is an easy recipe for beginners that uses just a few simple ingredients.
    • Prep Note: Poking the chicken with a fork helps the sauce seep into the drumsticks for more flavor.
    • Time-Saving Tip: On busy weeknights, I season the drumsticks, pour store-bought sauce on top, and let the crockpot do the rest of the work. It’s just a few minutes of prep time with no browning and no pre-cooking.
    • Serving Suggestions: Serve these up with cornbread and a simple green salad for an easy weeknight dinner.
honey , bbq sauce , garlic powder , cajun seasoning and chicken with labels to make Slow Cooker Chicken Drumsticks

    Key Ingredients

    • Chicken: Choose evenly-sized skin-on chicken drumsticks. Bone-in chicken thighs will also work.
    • BBQ Sauce: Choose your favorite BBQ sauce! I love Sweet Baby Ray’s for its sweet, tangy flavor, but smoky or spicy BBQ sauces work too.
    • Seasoning: Buy a Cajun seasoning or try our homemade version and have it on hand for other recipes. Add a pinch of smoked paprika to boost the smoky flavor.

How to Cook Slow Cooker Chicken Drumsticks

    1. Dry drumsticks and poke with a fork.
    2. Sprinkle with seasoning, and add to the slow cooker.
    3. Mix the sauce ingredients (full recipe below) and pour over the drumsticks.
    4. Cook in the crock pot, and serve with extra sauce.
    • For easy clean-up, try using a slow cooker liner.
    • Patting the drumsticks dry will help the seasoning stick and create extra crispy skin after broiling.
    • Use a thick BBQ sauce to avoid a watery finish. The sauce may look thin in the slow cooker, but it will thicken after broiling as well.
    • If doubling the recipe, rotate the drumsticks halfway through for even cooking.
    • Use an instant-read meat thermometer to ensure the chicken is fully cooked and reaches a safe internal temperature of 165°F.

    Save and Reheat

Keep leftover slow cooker chicken drumsticks in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. Reheat by adding a little extra sauce and popping it in the air fryer or under the broiler.

Cooled drumsticks will keep in the freezer for 3 months, making them great for meal prep. Thaw in the refrigerator and reheat in the oven in a covered dish until heated through. Broil for a few minutes.

    Prep Time 5 minutes

    Cook Time 2 hours

Total Time 2 hours 5 minutes

    • Pat the drumsticks dry with paper towels and poke each one a few times with a fork.

    • Sprinkle the Cajun seasoning evenly over the drumsticks and rub it in to coat.

    • Place the drumsticks in a single layer in the bottom of a 6 quart slow cooker.

    • In a small bowl, stir together the barbecue sauce, honey, and garlic powder and pour the sauce mixture over the drumsticks.

    • Cover and cook on high for 2 to 4 hours or on low for 4 to 5 hours, until the chicken is cooked through and tender.

    • Optional: For a sticky glaze and crispy edges, transfer the drumsticks to a foil-lined baking sheet and broil 4 to 6 inches from the heat for 3 to 4 minutes, or until lightly caramelized.

    • Serve with extra barbecue sauce for dipping.

    • *If your Cajun seasoning is salty, reduce the amount to taste or use a homemade Cajun seasoning blend.
    • Use any barbecue sauce; I like Sweet Baby Ray’s.
    • Keep leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 4 days. They will also keep in the freezer for 3 months.

    • Sauce: Buy your favorite or make your own pizza sauce and BBQ sauce with basic pantry ingredients.

      BBQ Chicken Flatbread

This easy BBQ chicken flatbread recipe is quick to make with chicken and fresh veggies in a sweet bbq sauce.

      Prep Time 15 minutes

      Cook Time 10 minutes

      Total Time 25 minutes

      • Preheat the oven to 425°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.

      • In a small bowl, mix the BBQ sauce and pizza sauce.

      • Arrange the flatbreads on the baking sheet and spread the sauce evenly over each one, leaving a small border around the edges.

      • Top with cooked chicken, red bell pepper, and red onion slices.

      • Sprinkle cheese evenly over each flatbread.

      • Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are crisp and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

      • Remove from the oven. Drizzle with additional BBQ sauce and sprinkle with fresh cilantro if desired. Slice and serve warm.

To use raw chicken: Dice 12 ounces boneless, skinless chicken breasts and season with ¼ teaspoon salt, ½ teaspoon dried oregano, and ¼ teaspoon smoked paprika. Cook in a skillet with one tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat until cooked through, about 6–8 minutes. Cool slightly before adding to the flatbreads.
For the flatbreads: Any type of flatbread will work. Try naan or lavash.
Cheese blend: The cheese blend I use has mozzarella, cheddar, and Monterey Jack. You can use any cheese blend. I find a mozzarella/cheddar blend to complement these flatbreads better than an Italian-style blend.
Size: This recipe is written for flatbreads the size of naan. Other sizes will work, but the ratios of ingredients may need to be adjusted.
Leftovers: Keep leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

    What You’ll Need

Pork Chops: Look for thicker boneless chops around ¾” that are about the same size so they cook evenly. Bone-in pork chops will work, too, and if you have thinner chops, be sure not to overcook them. (See recipe notes for suggested cooking times)

BBQ Sauce: Use your favorite flavor of BBQ sauce (I love this one) or DIY your own for tasty homemade flavor.

Honey: Honey adds a bit of sweetness and helps the chops to caramelize.

    Variations

    • Switch out the honey with brown sugar or maple syrup.
    • Use sriracha or chile paste instead of hot sauce for an easy substitute.
    • Add garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, or other simple seasonings like black pepper into the sauce.
    • Marinate in the sauce for about 30 minutes in a zippered bag at room temperature for more infused flavor and juicy pork chops.

How to Make BBQ Pork Chops

BBQ Pork Chops on the grill are a summertime (or anytime) favorite!

    1. Score the sides of the pork chops so they don’t curl up as they cook. Season with salt and pepper.
    2. Grill pork chops (recipe below), flipping occasionally. Brush with BBQ sauce in the last 5 minutes of cooking.
    3. Remove BBQ pork chops from the grill and let rest.
    • 1-inch chops will take 15-20 minutes
    • ¾-inch chops will take 11-15 minutes
    • ½-inch chops will take 9-12 minutes.

    Pork Chop Pro Tips

    • Keep the pork tender by making sure not to overcook them (use a meat thermometer).
    • Cook the pork chops to 142°F in the thickest part of the meat—once removed from the heat, they will continue to cook to 145°F.
    • Pork chops can be (and should be!) a little bit pink in the center.
    • Store leftover BBQ pork chops in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

    • In a medium bowl, combine barbecue sauce, honey, and hot sauce (if using). Reserve half of the sauce for serving.

    • Make shallow cuts every ½” along the fatty edge of the pork chop to stop it from curling while cooking. Season with salt and pepper.

    • Place pork chops on the grill and cook for 11 to 15 minutes, flipping the chops occasionally. Brush the chops with the barbecue sauce during the last 5 minutes of cooking

    • Remove from the grill once the chops reach 142°F in the thickest part of the meat and transfer to a plate. Rest 5 minutes before serving.
