With more and more people busy and on the go, it’s no surprise that people are opting for audio-only listening — whether in the car, on a walk, on a plane or while cooking dinner. Podcasts are here to stay, and they’re only just getting started.

    When it comes to business, one of the most critical factors in your growth is the number of people you know, like and trust. Podcasts will help you tick all three of those boxes. If you’re not leveraging them as a part of your marketing, let today be the day that changes.

    You will get more reach and exposure as a direct result of the podcasts, and you can leverage the video content from the episode across your social media channels. One recorded podcast episode can produce a month worth of short-form video content for you.     1. Build a list

    When it comes to getting booked on podcasts, the best place to start is getting clear on the types of shows where you feel you can first reach the right people and, secondly, add the most value. Ensuring each podcast is aligned with your work will simplify the process. It goes without saying, but if you’re in the hair and beauty space, a finance podcast isn’t going to interview you.

    If you’ve never done podcasts before, start small. Trying to get onto Joe Rogan or Tony Robbins podcast if you’re just starting might dampen your spirits. Try to find podcasts that have between 500-5000 listeners per episode, as these will be your best shot, and build a list of at least 20 podcasts.

    2. Connect with the host directly

    It goes without saying, but podcast hosts get pitched — a lot. If you want to skyrocket the chances of a host booking you, the best place to start is to connect with them on social media. Doing so starts the relationship by giving, which is far more likely to end with the host reciprocating.

    So, take the time to listen to an episode, drop them a friend request or follow, and send them a message telling them that you love their show and that a particular message resonated with you.

    3. Create your pitch

    Crafting a pitch can seem like a daunting task. The best place to start is your talking points. What are 2-3 things that, from your experience, you know better than anyone else? Try to get a little more creative than”Scaling to 6-figures,” — as you’ll sound like everyone else. Lean into your uniqueness and story here, as that will sell the host on having you on their show. Remember to keep your pitch short. Here is a basic framework: Compliment, Story, Value and Call To Action.

    Compliment: Who doesn’t love a compliment? Start with this to ensure the host knows it’s personalized and not a mass pitch. E.g., “Loved your episode with John Smith. The message about growing from within really resonated with me.

    Story: Your story is what will sell them. Share the unique parts of you and your story in 1-3 sentences.

    Value: Podcast hosts want to hear the value you have to provide. Share your 2-3 unique talking points with them in bullet format.

    Call to action (CTA): You’ll never know if you don’t ask. Ask them if they’d like to have you as a guest. For example: “I’d love to share these insights with your audience. If you think this would be valuable for them, would you be open to scheduling a time?”

    4. Press send and automate the follow-up

    So you’ve got your list, your pitch, so here comes the exciting part. Pressing send! Whether pitching the media, or a podcast, in this case, sending emails can be time-consuming, particularly the follow-up. That being said, there are some great email tools that you can leverage, such as Lemlist or Omni.us, where you can create custom email campaigns with automated follow-up sequences.

    We all know that not every email gets replied to, and often the host won’t reply until the second or third email — and trust me, persistence pays off. Make sure to keep the follow-ups around 3-4 days apart, as no one likes to be bombarded daily. We all get enough emails as it is.

    There’s no doubt that podcasts are a great way to build authority, reach new audiences, and ultimately, grow your brand and bottom line. This 4-step process is all you need to book yourself onto great podcasts regularly.

The collection also includes a seven-track remix record called The Perfect Vision: Reworkings. The remix album will include new interpretations by Brian Eno, Jim Jarmusch, Laraaji, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, and more. The deluxe release arrives November 25 via Bella Union.     The group’s three albums were inspired by the writings of Antonin Artaud, Arthur Rimbaud, and René Daumal. The Peyote Dance was recorded in the Sierra Tarahumara of Mexico, while Mummer Love was tracked at the Abyssinian valley of Ethiopia, and Peradam was laid down at the Himalayan Summit of India. Each album retraces the poets’ footsteps, channeled through on-location recorded soundscapes, with Patti Smith revisiting the poets’ words that were inspired by the respective landscapes.

    The box set also includes a book featuring an interview with Patti Smith and Stephan Crasneanscki of Soundwalk Collective, along with photos, drawings, and a print signed by Smith.

    Bones and All is Guadagnino’s first feature film since 2018’s Suspiria. The new movie stars Timothée Chalamet and tells the story of two teenage cannibals in 1980s America. Famously, Guadagnino and Chalamet previously worked together on the 2017 film Call Me by Your Name.

    Bones and All is the first soundtrack album from Reznor and Ross since December 2020’s Mank. The musicians also scored Sam Mendes’ upcoming film Empire of Light.

    Fly Anakin released his debut solo album Frank back in March, and, now, the Richmond, Virginia rapper has shared a new Madlib remix for the album cut “No Dough.” The remix features a re-recorded vocal line over an all-new beat from Madlib, who also produced the original track.     Frank marked the followup to Anakin’s 2021 EP Pixote, and included the songs “Ghost” and “Sean Price.” In 2020, he teamed up with Pink Siifu for FlySiifu, which was later followed by 2021’s Smokebreak EP.

    Stockholm-based composer Kali Malone has announced a new album with Lucy Railton (cello) and Sunn O)))’s Stephen O’Malley (electric guitar) called Does Spring Hide Its Joy. The 3xLP release has a runtime of more than two hours. Each song shares its title with the album; the first to be released is “Does Spring Hide Its Joy v2​.​3.” The album is due out January 20 via Ideologic Organ. Check it out below.

    Best known for her pipe-organ compositions, Malone performs with “tuned sine wave oscillators” on Does Spring Hide Its Joy. The album was recorded with O’Malley and Railton in the Spring of 2020 in the cavernous halls of Berlin’s Funkhaus, a former state-run East German radio facility turned recording studio complex. It has since evolved into a site-specific sound installation in collaboration with the visual artist Nika Milano that exhibited in Los Angeles earlier this year. Of the recording process, Malone said in a statement: 

    “Like most of the world, my perception of time went through a significant transformation during the pandemic confinements of spring 2020. Unmarked by the familiar milestones of life, the days and months dripped by, instinctively blending with no end in sight. Time stood still until subtle shifts in the environment suggested there had been a passing. Memories blurred non-sequentially, the fabric of reality deteriorated, unforeseen kinships formed and disappeared, and all the while, the seasons changed and moved on without the ones we lost. Playing this music for hours on end was a profound way to digest the countless life transitions and hold time together.”

    Malone released her last LP Living Torch in July. She has also played with the rock trio Swap Babies, assembled a percussion ensemble for 2017’s Velocity of Sleep, and collaborated with friends Ellen Arkbro and Caterina Barbieri, among others.

    Roku Inc. shares plummeted 19% in after-hours trading Wednesday after the streaming company topped expectations with its latest results but gave a weaker-than-anticipated outlook for the holiday quarter as economic conditions could further “degrade advertising budgets.”

    For the fourth quarter, Roku executives anticipate $800 million in revenue and a loss of $135 million on the basis of adjusted Ebitda. The FactSet consensus called for $899 million in revenue as well as a $48 million adjusted Ebitda loss.

    “As we enter the holiday season, we expect the macro environment to further pressure consumer discretionary spend and degrade advertising budgets, especially in the TV scatter market,” the company said in its shareholder letter. “We expect these conditions to be temporary, but it is difficult to predict when they will stabilize or rebound.”

    Chief Financial Officer Steve Louden shared on a call with reporters following the release that the company’s forecast “reflects the fact that we see a lot of challenges in the macro environment.”

    He explained that Roku tends to be more exposed to the scatter ad market — which represents ads bought during the quarter — than the typical TV network. Scatter spending is easy for marketers to turn on, but also easier for them to turn off, he noted.

    The forecast overshadowed the results from Roku’s third quarter, which were broadly better than expected.

    The company posted a net loss of $122.2 million, or 88 cents a share, whereas it logged net income of $68.9 million, or 48 a share, in the year-earlier period. Analysts tracked by FactSet were expecting a $1.29 loss on a per-share basis.

    Roku also reported a loss of $34 million on the basis of adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization. The company had posted positive adjusted Ebitda of $130 million in the year-before quarter. The FactSet consensus was for a $74 million loss on the non-GAAP metric.

    Revenue rose to $761 million from $680 million, while analysts were anticipating $696 million.

    The company generated $670 million in platform revenue and $91 million in player revenue. Analysts were expecting platform revenue of $613 million and player revenue of $87 million.

    Roku had 65.4 million active accounts in the latest quarter, up from 63.1 million in the second quarter. Average revenue per user was $44.25 on a trailing-12-month basis, compared with $44.10 in the second quarter and $40.10 in the prior year’s third quarter.

    Analysts were anticipating 64 million active accounts and $43.40 in average revenue per user.

    Louden noted on the media call that the account numbers “outperformed expectations.” The company has seen “strong sales of smart TVs both in the U.S. and internationally,” with Louden adding that “it’s hard to tell how much is driven by a shift back to home or back to streaming, which is a very good value proposition if money is tight.”

    Viewers spent 21.9 billion hours streaming content through Roku’s platform in the period. The FactSet consensus was for 20.9 billion hours streamed.

    The company also noted in its shareholder letter that CFO Louden intends to leave Roku at some point in 2023 after helping to recruit and train his successor.

    SoundPort eliminates the need for large and expensive audio jacks by relying instead on the extensible capabilities of USB-C combined with SoundChip-patented electronics. SoundPort works with all airline headphone types, including powered and jack-enabled noise cancelling models, conventional stereo headphones, as well as next generation Panasonic HD AUDIO headsets, which bring several new features such as digital audio and voice telephony.

    SoundPort’s integrated electronics autonomously detect the type of headphone connected to the jack and route incoming and outgoing audio signals accordingly. For example, SoundPort provides power to noise cancelling headphones that include their own circuitry, whereas for noise cancelling headphones designed to operate with circuitry in the jack, SoundPort’s electronics perform the noise cancelling processing. For digital headsets, meanwhile, such as those compatible with Panasonic HD AUDIO, SoundPort passes digital signals to and from the headset and includes a powerful firewall to further protect inflight entertainment system data.​

    To make a headphone compatible with SoundPort, including those already in use, requires the headphone’s cable to be swapped to one terminating in a USB-C connector – it’s that simple.​
