  • ‘The Baby Could Come Any Day,’ Bloomberg Analyst Says Litecoin, Solana And XRP ETF Approval Odds Now At 100%

    A slew of cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds may be set to launch any day now, according to Bloomberg Intelligence Senior ETF Analyst Eric Balchunas.

    Balchunas said Monday on X that the approval of pending ETF applications tied to assets such as Cardano, Litecoin, Solana, and XRP was now “100%” guaranteed following the Securities and Exchange Commission’s launch of generic listing standards for cryptocurrency-based ETFs.

    Balchunas’ remarks came after the SEC requested that issuers withdraw 19b-4 filings related to their ETF applications.

    The 19b-4 is a filing submitted by exchanges, such as the Nasdaq and NYSE, on behalf of issuers outlining a rule change required to list a new ETF. The filing has typically been required for spot cryptocurrency ETF approvals, but it also came with a statutory approval window of 240 days.

    According to Balchunas, 19b-4 filings and the “clock” that came with them are no longer necessary for spot cryptocurrency ETF applications thanks to the new generic listing standards. Now only S-1 registration filings are required, he said. S-1 filings submitted by issuers do not come with such deadlines.

    “The baby could come any day,” Balchunas said. “Be ready.”

    Before the recent shift in the cryptocurrency ETF applications process, the deadline for an SEC decision on ETF applications tied to Litecoin, Solana, and XRP was already concentrated in October.

    Of all the pending spot cryptocurrency ETF applications, Balchunas suggested on Monday that Solana-linked products may be the first to be approved. He highlighted that registration statements linked to the products have already undergone four amendments, which typically signals high SEC engagement and progress.

    Bitwise investment chief Matt Hougan said last month that the launch of Solana ETFs would usher in “Solana season.” He cited a convergence of inflows into the products and demand from digital asset treasury companies that are stacking the asset. He said the combination was what sparked Bitcoin’s run from $40,000 in January 2024 to a record of nearly $125,000. He also said it is what has caused Ethereum to rally since April.

    Missed Out on Nvidia? 1 Artificial Intelligence (AI) Growth Stock to Buy Now and Hold for a Decade or Longer

    Semiconductor stocks have been on fire ever since ChatGPT was launched in late 2022. Since then, a slew of new generative artificial intelligence (AI) applications have made cutting-edge graphics processing units that can handle accelerated applications a hot commodity. As Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) is the leader in that subset of the chip market, its sales and stock price have been rocketing higher.

    After watching Nvidia’s share price rise by 222% during the 12-month period that ended Wednesday, some investors are justifiably nervous that the stock has gotten too far ahead of itself.

    Nvidia will report its fiscal fourth-quarter results on Feb 21. During its fiscal third quarter, which ended Oct. 29, total revenue surged 206% year over year.

    Its valuation of about 97 times trailing earnings isn’t unreasonable if you assume continued growth at its present rate. However, the semiconductor industry is famously cyclical. Demand for chips that can power generative AI applications will eventually crash. We just don’t know when that crash will come. If you buy Nvidia at this inflated valuation and the bottom falls out next year, you could suffer heavy losses.

    For most folks who missed the boat on Nvidia, climbing aboard now entails more risk than they can tolerate. If you want to hitch your portfolio to a major player in the AI revolution with significantly less risk, consider buying shares of Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOG)(NASDAQ: GOOGL) now to hold for the long run.

    Alphabet’s AI prowess is better than you think

    The AI gold rush started when OpenAI launched ChatGPT about a year and a half ago. By that time, though, Alphabet had already been an AI-first company for several years. In a 2016 blog post, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai told everyone that “in the next 10 years, we will shift to a world that is AI-first, a world where computing becomes universally available.”

    If it didn’t have an army of engineers skilled in the arts of machine learning, Google wouldn’t be able to recognize poor spelling in search queries or rank search results properly. With AI working behind the scenes to provide better results, Google has captured a 91.5% share of the global search market, according to Statcounter. Microsoft, a tech giant currently worth over $3 trillion, launched Bing nearly 15 years ago, but it still has just 3.4% of the global market for search.

    Google Maps has over a billion monthly users, and millions of businesses eagerly use the platform to attract new customers. Maps is another AI-heavy application — it wouldn’t be able to forecast traffic or recommend improved routes without the contributions of some of the AI industry’s most valuable talent.

    Why Alphabet is well positioned for AI’s next chapter

    In addition to a search business that dominates its competitors, Alphabet is a leading provider of cloud computing services. Late last year, its cloud offering became a lot more valuable with the addition of Gemini.

    OpenAI caught Alphabet flatfooted when it launched ChatGPT in late 2022. In a nutshell, Gemini offers a similar generative AI experience for consumers with the chatbot formerly known as Bard. Gemini also gives enterprise-sized Google Cloud customers a chance to build AI applications of their own.

    With several applications that boast over a billion active users per month, Google can offer enterprise-level cloud customers access to reams of real-world data they won’t find anywhere else.

    A fair price

    Google Cloud sales rose 26% year over year in the third quarter. With a large addressable market and an advantage over competitors who don’t dominate the markets for search and location data, investors can reasonably expect strong growth from its cloud business for another decade.

    The vast majority of Alphabet’s revenues and profits still come from Google Services. This segment is growing more slowly than its cloud business, but it’s still a long way from stagnation. Google Services revenue rose 12.5% year over year in the fourth quarter. Over the same time frame, operating income from the services segment jumped 32%.

    With advantages over the competition, and its two main operating segments growing by double-digit percentages, Alphabet should be valued at a high earnings multiple — but it isn’t. You can buy the stock for around 21 times forward earnings expectations.

    There’s no such thing as a risk-free growth stock. With reliable earnings from advertising and cloud services, though, buying Alphabet at a reasonable valuation gives you an excellent chance to come out ahead over the long run. With its firm toehold in the rapidly evolving AI space, it also has a chance to become a top performer. Buying some shares now to hold for the long run looks like a smart move.

    Generative AI is a paradigm shift in technology, and it will spur a massive shift in enterprise spend over the next decade and beyond. Transformations of this magnitude can feel rapid on the surface, especially when they make a huge splash like generative AI has in recent months, but it’s a steep and steady climb to permeate the layers of the enterprise technology stack.

    The infrastructure layer captures the initial spend as companies assemble the building blocks for power and performance — the capital pouring into Nvidia and GPU aggregators today indicate this is well underway. As adoption (and dollars) move up the stack, development focus will shift toward the new experiences and products that will reshape each subsequent layer.

    We’re just getting a glimpse of how this transformation will unfold at the application layer, and early signals suggest the disruption will be profound.

    Long before generative AI, enterprise applications began to deliver more consumer-like experiences by improving UIs and introducing interactive elements that would engage everyday users and accelerate workflow. This spurred a shift from “system of record” applications like Salesforce and Workday to “system of engagement” applications like Slack and Notion.

    As generative AI shapes the next generation of application products, we can expect even more sweeping evolution.

    Collaboration was a defining characteristic of this new breed of enterprise tools, with features like multiplayer mode, annotation functionality, version history, and metadata. These apps also leveraged consumer-native viral components to drive adoption and enable seamless sharing of content within and between organizations. The core record retained its intrinsic value within these systems of engagement, and served as a bedrock for the growing volume of information created at the engagement layer.

    As generative AI shapes the next generation of application products, we can expect even more sweeping evolution. The first players look a lot like ChatGPT integrators, building lightweight tools directly on top of generative models that deliver immediate but fleeting value. We have already seen a variety of generative AI products emerge that have explosive initial growth, but also extremely high churn due to limited workflow or lack of additional functionality. These applications typically produce a generative output that is a single-use type of content or media (i.e., not embedded into a user’s everyday workflow), and their value relies on off-the-shelf generative models that are widely available to others in the market.

    The second wave of generative AI applications, which is just beginning to take shape, will leverage generative models to integrate the structured data that lies within the system-of-record applications and the unstructured data that lies within the system-of-engagement applications.

    Developers of these products will have more potential to create enduring companies than first-wave entrants, but only if they can find a way to “own” the layer above the system-of-engagement and system-of-record applications — no mean feat when incumbents like Salesforce are already scrambling to implement generative AI to create a protective moat around their underlying layers.

    This leads to the third wave, where entrants create their own, defensible “system of intelligence” layer. Startups will first introduce novel product offerings that deliver value by harnessing existing system-of-record and system-of-engagement capabilities. Once a strong use case is established, they will then build out workflows that can ultimately stand alone as a true enterprise application.

    This does not necessarily mean replacing the existing interactive or database layers; instead, they will create new structured and unstructured data where generative models utilize these new datasets to enhance the product experience — essentially creating a new class of “super datasets.”

    A core focus for these products should be integrations with the ability to ingest, clean, and label the data. For example, to build a new customer support experience, it’s not enough to simply ingest the knowledge base of existing customer support tickets. A truly compelling product should also incorporate bug tracking, product documentation, internal team communications, and much more. It will know how to pull out the relevant information, tag it, and weigh it in order to create novel insights. It will have a feedback loop that allows it to get better with training and usage, not only within an organization but also across multiple organizations.

    When a product accomplishes all of this, switching to a competitor becomes very difficult — the weighted, cleaned data is highly valuable and it would take too long to achieve the same quality with a new product.

    At this point, the intelligence lies not only in the product or model, but also in the associated hierarchy, labels, and weights. Insights will take minutes instead of days to deliver, with a focus on actions and decisions rather than just synthesis of information. These will be the true system-of-intelligence products that leverage generative AI, marked by these defining traits:

    • Have deep integration with company workflows and ability to capture newly created structured and unstructured data.
    • Be sophisticated around the characterization and digestion of data through hierarchy, labels, and weights.
    • Create data feedback loops within and between customers to enhance the product experience.

    One key question I love to ask customers is, “Where does a new product stack rank with the other tools you use?” Normally the system-of-record product is the most important, followed by the system-of-engagement product, with additional tooling at the bottom of the list.

    The least important product will be the first to get cut when the budget is tight, so emerging system-of-intelligence products must provide enduring value in order to survive. They’ll also face steep competition from incumbents who will build generative AI–enabled intelligence capabilities into their products.  It will be up to the new wave of system-of-intelligence to couple their offerings with high-value workflows, collaboration, and the introduction of super datasets to endure.

    Transformation of the AI space has accelerated over the last 12 months, and the industry is learning fast. Open source models are proliferating and closed proprietary models are also evolving at an atypically rapid pace. Now it’s up to founders to build enduring system-of-intelligence products atop this rapidly shifting landscape — and when it’s done right, the impact on enterprises will be extraordinary.

    The biggest lie was about education, with 44% of respondents saying they stretched the truth regarding their academic bona fides.

    “People lie during the hiring process when they don’t have the all the required skills, education or experience, but feel that they can embellish or lie in order to secure the position,” says Stacie Haller, Chief Career Advisor at CareerBuilder.com.

    “They know that the company will not verify their education or their skills, and they simply hope to make their way through the process without being found out.”

    Haller says that the numbers have increased in recent years “as our culture is seemingly becoming more accepting of lying.”

    Lies during the job interview

    The lying game doesn’t end with the resume.

    Sixty-eight percent of survey respondents also came clean about being dishonest during their job interviews, with men playing Pinnochio ( 71%) more than women (65%).

    The number 1 lie told during an interview? Years of experience. People also lied about their skills, abilities, and responsibilities at previous jobs.

    Respondents admitted to being dishonest in their job applications, too, with 30% saying they’ve lied about their race or ethnicity.

    The reason was unclear.

    “More research is needed to understand why candidates are choosing to answer voluntary self-identification questions incorrectly,” Haller said. “These questions are asked on applications in part so that an organization can create a diverse and equitable workforce. If candidates are lying, this may hinder their efforts.”

    Is it ok to lie a little?

    The results of the ResumeBuilder.com survey may make it seem like it’s not only acceptable to lie a little when applying for a job — you’d be a fool not to.

    Lying pays off — literally. Sixty-five percent of respondents say lying in the hiring process helped them land a higher salary.

    But Haller disputes the notion that lying is just par for the course.

    She says that getting caught in a lie can have serious consequences.

    “As a recruiter, when I have found out a candidate was lying on a resume or during the interview process, I would no longer work with them. Recruiters, headhunters, hiring managers, and HR professionals will remember you if you are caught lying, and this can follow a candidate for several years.”

    So next time you use alternative facts on your resume, job application, or interview, consider this: Is it better to be truthful and remembered as an honest employee, or lie and risk the chance of soiling your career and reputation?

    Higher education is more important to financial stability now more than ever as the bachelor’s degree (BA) now accounts for 56 percent of all good jobs, according to the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce. However, students from underserved communities are not being afforded the same college preparation opportunities as their affluent peers as they face systemic barriers to college readiness, including lack of institutional support and adequate resources. 

    First Gen Support (FGS), a student-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit funded through a grant by Cornell University, is dedicated to empowering first-generation, low-income, and immigrant (FGLI) students to successfully navigate high school and achieve college readiness. Set to launch its first annual College Prep-A-Thon Aug. 2-6, 2022, FGS has made this prep-a-thon unique in its interactive experience by combining elements of past FGS mentorship programs and last year’s college fair. Students will have the chance to learn from speakers and mentors from college prep programs and top universities such as UPenn, Stanford, Harvard, and Cornell. The FGS College Prep-A-Thon seeks to foster a supportive and competitive environment filled with incentives to ensure students finish daily challenges for college readiness.     Featuring 30+ college mentors, 10+ speakers, and 400+ signups, FGS is looking for 1,000+ student signups, 50+ college students as mentors, and donors/sponsors to sponsor prizes and the future operations of FGS. 

    As a first-generation immigrant, FGS founder Julia Sun (Cornell ’25) found that college preparation opportunities were not built equal, especially for lower-income and first-generation students. Inspired by the Black Lives Matters movement, she witnessed the socio-economic inequities and realized the staggering challenges that encompass finding college preparation resources, especially for students whose parents did not go to college.     World Reach Limited is pleased to announce that its wholly owned subsidiary, Beam Communications Pty Ltd (‘Beam’), has received a further order for 5,000 units of the Iridium GO!® product.

    The Iridium GO! is the world’s first device that allows you to connect your smart phone or tablet via     Wi-Fi to the Iridium Network by simply downloading the relevant applications to access different functionalities and features.  Some features include voice calls, SMS, tracking, SOS, email, data access, photo transfer, social media, just to name a few.

    This is the third order received by Beam since commercial delivery commenced in mid 2014. This further order reflects continued end-user demand for the device and the utility it provides to customers requiring global data and voice calling solutions.

    Based on the delivery schedule outlined by Beam’s customer, 50% of the deliveries will commence shipping in the second half of FY2017 with the balance to be supplied in the first half of FY2018. Beam will have the capacity to accelerate deliveries on request. This revenue, and its timing, has been budgeted in the Company’s current forecast.

    With the recent launch of additional App’s supported on the Iridium GO! device, including Exchange and Gmail applications, the product now offers enhanced functionality, as well as proven reliability. It is anticipated that demand for the Iridium GO! device will increase in the first half of FY2017 and further orders are expected in due course.
