  • Apple is reportedly getting ready to replace Tim Cook as early as next year

    [ad_1]

According to the Financial Times, Tim Cook may be ready to leave his position as soon as next year, and Apple’s board and senior executives have ramped up their preparations to secure his replacement.

Cook, who has been at the helm of Apple for more than 14 years, succeeded Steve Jobs and led the company to a market cap of more than $4 trillion. Cook’s tenure since 2011 has overseen the introduction of hardware, including Apple Watch, AirPods and Vision Pro, but also services like Apple Arcade and Apple TV+. According to the Financial Times‘s sources, Apple’s senior vice president of engineering, John Ternus, will most likely take on the CEO role, but this decision hasn’t been finalized yet. Ternus has been with Apple since 2001 as part of its Product Design team and eventually stepped into a vice president role within the Hardware Engineering division, where he played a heavy role in the company’s transition to Apple silicon.

According to the Financial Times, Apple isn’t planning to announce the new CEO before its January earnings report. However, the report also noted that this announcement would come earlier in the year to allow the leadership team to transition smoothly in time for all of Apple’s annual events. Earlier this year, Apple also announced Sabih Khan as the new chief operating officer, taking over for Jeff Williams.

Apple just announced October 2024’s new Apple Arcade games with NBA 2K25 Arcade Edition as the headliner. Following yesterday’s news about Balatro, Apple confirmed that NBA 2K25 Arcade Edition will release on October 3rd with three App Store Greats. Check out the NBA 2K25 Arcade Edition gameplay screenshot below:

Alongside NBA 2K25 Arcade Edition, we have Smash Hit+, Furistas Cat Cafe+, and Food Truck Pup+ joining Apple Arcade as App Store Greats. I’ve only played the first of those before so I will be checking out the others assuming I can stop playing Balatro+. NFL Retro Bowl 25, Monster Train+, and Puzzle Sculpt Release Today on Apple Arcade Alongside Major Game Updates This Week – TouchArcade

    [ad_1]

Beginning today, Apple will have released one new Apple Vision Pro game, one App Store Great, and upgrading an App Store Great to an Apple Arcade Original (as a standalone release) alongside some notable udpates. NFL Retro Bowl 25 (Edit: No longer an update) will let players create their own dynasty using official NFL teams and players featuring official retro art, attributes, stats, and contracts. Since this was announced, I was surprised at how much interest I saw for it online. I don’t follow the NFL much, but I didn’t expect as much of a positive reaction to the NFL Retro Bowl 25 announcement. Hopefully it ends up well when it goes live as an update later today. Alongside NFL Retro Bowl 25, App Store Great Monster Train+ has launched on Apple Arcade including The Last Divinity DLC from the get go. Check out a screenshot from NFL Retro Bowl 25 below:

Puzzle Sculpt is a Vision Pro-only set to launch today on Apple Arcade letting players solve puzzles in their own living room by removing blocks to reveal a cute collectible in a cube. As for this week’s notable updates, Hello Kitty Island Adventure has the Jam Jamboree on with Petunias appearing in the Merry Meadow as a festive flower. Rabbids Multiverse has new cards, outfits, seasonal events, and quality of life improvements with this week’s update. Wylde Flowers has its Magical Creatures update now live with jewelry crafting, secrets in the lighthouse, and more. Disney Spellstruck adds Hercules with a limited time event, a high contrast event, and more. What the Car brings in yet another update with a “Meet the Developers” special, scissors, bear improvements (yes), and more. What do you think of this month’s new Apple Arcade additions?

Update: It looks like they launched NFL Retro Bowl 25 as a new app and not an update.

Poncle on Apple Arcade, How Xbox Game Pass Helped, Cross Save, DLC, Physical Releases, PS5 Features, Coffee, and More – TouchArcade

    [ad_1]

Ever since I first played it on Steam Deck a few years ago during its early access period, I’ve been obsessed with Vampire Survivors from poncle. It has been ported to Xbox with an Xbox Game Pass launch, come to mobile, seen a Nintendo Switch release, and most-recently hit Apple Arcade with a PS5 release coming soon as well. Across so many platforms, DLC releases, collaborations, and free updates, I’ve wanted to chat with the team at poncle for a while now. I finally had a chance to talk to Geo Morgan (Lead Partnerships Manager) and the poncle team about various topics including working with different platforms, how Xbox Game Pass helped the game, Apple’s support, a potential physical release, my favorite coffee response yet, and much more.

TouchArcade (TA): A lot has changed for Vampire Survivors and poncle since the early access launch on PC. How has the team grown?

Geo Morgan and Poncle (GM): The team has grown a lot since launch! We’re over 25 folks now, across a large array of disciplines. We cross over a lot and we aren’t locked off as to seeing what each other are doing, we’ve got a channel in our workspace that ensures everyones kept up to date the best we can on all the fun things we get up to. It’s been quite exciting watching the team grow (for instance, I joined when there were around 12 people) and seeing all the work everyone does every day is inspiring.

TA: Since the PC release, Vampire Survivors released on Xbox, mobile, Switch, and is coming to PlayStation in the future. How has it been working on the game across all those platforms?

GM: The teams learned a lot working on all the current platforms, and it’s all invaluable knowledge. Each system has its own unique traits and requirements, so learning the best ways we can implement them all to Vampire Survivors has been great, alongside bringing the game to new audiences across a variety of platforms. We find it important to take our time and do the porting internally, so we can ensure a parity of content and experience for the players.

TA: Vampire Survivors is in Xbox Game Pass and is also coming to Apple Arcade soon. While it is too soon to say how it does in the latter, how has Xbox Game Pass been for the game?

GM: Our partnership with Xbox has always been fantastic. Game Pass as a whole provides such a brilliant service to people who just want to give a game a go, and does a great job at removing the barrier to entry to hundreds of games with ours being one of them. It’s been great for Vampire Survivors, as it’s a game that you “get it” after you play it.

TA: Having played the game through its early access release on Steam Deck, through updates, Xbox, and Switch in addition to iPhone and iPad, it has been great seeing how much performance has improved while everything gets more complex. What should we expect for the Apple Arcade version in terms of updates?

GM: Firstly, thank you for playing all the versions! All of our content updates (such as Whiteout, Astral Stair, Tiny Bridge, Space-54, Laborratory and more) will be available on the Apple Arcade version of Vampire Survivors+, and all future free content updates we do will also be available, one of which we may be working on at the moment alongside other things. So long as we deliver free content updates to all formats, it will reach Apple Arcade players. Any DLC that is created by us however, will be added to the Apple Arcade version.

TA: You previously told me the Among Us and Contra DLC was not included in Apple Arcade for licensing reasons. Does this mean cross save will not be available for Apple Arcade when it goes live on other platforms?

GM: On launch, Cross-Save won’t be available between the Apple Arcade and App Store versions, but it is something we’re investigating internally.

TA: How has it been working with Apple on Vampire Survivors+?

GM: Really great! The folks at Apple have been clear, super nice, and easy to work with, any questions we’ve had they’ve answered and any challenges we’ve faced in development they’ve been on hand for.

TA: poncle has been amazing at responding to player feedback across platforms. Has there been anything players ask for that you haven’t been able to implement yet?

GM: We read and consider literally everything, sometimes we are able to address feedback directly and some other times we just let it simmer and eventually influence our future decisions. A big problem we’ve been trying to address for years now, is how to manage platform Achievements so that we can make both players who want them, and those who don’t want them, happy! We haven’t found a solution yet obviously, but we keep talking to the different platforms and testing weird stuff.

TA: If you had no restrictions and unlimited budget, what game or IP would you get into Vampire Survivors?

GM: Our first list of dream collaborations had something like 30 IP’s on it, we won’t be getting into that list, but we hope to tick some more off as the game continues!

TA: Given the low asking price for the game and DLC, looking back, do you think you charged too little for the game? I sure feel like it, given how much I’ve gotten out of it on all platforms.

GM: Not at all! We hear “You charged too little” quite often but we feel for the production value of the game, that’s the price it should cost.

Vampire Survivors 1.0 Steam Deck Review

TA: Can we expect any content exclusive to the Apple Arcade release since it won’t have all the DLC available on other platforms?

GM: We’re not fans of exclusive content, we’d rather put that energy into trying to get the same content to everyone.

TA: Will you ever let players play as a vampire?

    GM: What’s a vampire?

TA: For the upcoming PS5 release, are you going to implement DualSense haptics?

GM: When we launch on PlayStation 5, sadly there won’t be any haptic support for the DualSense, nor will the Active Triggers play a part, but traditional rumble will still exist. That’s not saying in the future we won’t add it, however, we’re always looking at all the platforms’ new features and seeing how we can implement them into Vampire Survivors.

TA: Will we be able to carry over our Apple Arcade save into the standalone App Store release and vice versa?

GM: This is something we’re going to look into, but for launch the capability to cross-save between the Apple Arcade and App Store versions won’t be active.

TA: Has the team considered doing soundtrack DLC to bring in new composers to have their own take on classic Vampire Survivors music as OST options?

GM: That’s an interesting one, I think the logistics would be terrifying though.

TA: What is your favorite aspect of the game right now and one thing you wish you could improve?

GM: The favorite aspect is still the reason the game was made in the first place, it offers a straightforward gameplay platform that allows us to make content easily. What’s to improve is how the huge amount of content is managed and how it affects platform Achievements.

TA: Any plans to do a physical release or artbook?

GM: Physical and other media is certainly something we’ve been thinking about for a while and we’re always actively talking about it. As a group of folks that all have collections of vinyl, retro video games, books etc, it’d be great to see our own game in the collection in some way! We’ve already got some merch available on different parts of the web, growing this is a constant working project.

TA: I think Vampire Survivors and Balatro are my two most played indie games in years. Any chance for a crossover between both?

GM: A lot of us (as you can see below) were deeply sucked into LocalThunks’ world of Jimbo and his mult-building joker friends, so it wouldn’t be something off the cards (couldn’t not leave a card joke) as we like to keep our ideas open and the outlets for them to become real open too. Nothing is ever truly off the table for us.

TA: What have you and the team at poncle enjoyed playing this year?

GM: A whole lot of answers to this one! Likely my favorite for the year so far is Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, but I know a few of the team played a lot of Balatro, Shadow of the Erdtree, Chained Together, Dave the Diver, Helldivers 2 & Animal Well, a few folks checked out SaGa: Emerald Beyond & Flintlock too. We’ve got a Final Fantasy XIV Online player in the team who’s deep in the new expansion with multiple characters, and Lethal Company has been a team favorite for a while.

TA: How do you like your coffee?

poncle: So, I felt this was a perfect question for our whole team, so here’s as many answers as I could get from the team:

    • Matt – Black.
    • Lee – Also black.
    • Kerri – The milkiest, sweetest coffee in existence
    • David – Out and about – Caramel Iced Latte with cream. Morning coffee – Black from a cafetiere (maybe sugar on the weekend)
    • Zak – Black filter coffee, ideally Hermanos Yellow Fruits as it tastes like Um Bongo mixed with unleaded petrol
    • Guru – Camomile tea
    • Geo – Black, no sugar, no milk, a small amount of cold water (any variety, instant, cafetiere, filter, I’m an animal, sorry)
    • Nickie – Green tea
    • Adam – Flat white
    • Owen – I’m a huge mocha stan, a chocolate fiend. If my coffee is too bitter I simply perish. I like my beans fresh and ground just before so I can pull back some level of control into my incredibly hectic life. I use an inverted Aeropress technique because I want to give the impression that I’m cultured even though I can barely put my T-shirts on the right way round each day. If I’m not paying upwards of £3.50 for a dinky little cup of coffee in an independent shop that features minimalist furniture and plays Lo-fi remixes of Charli XCX songs on repeat, then what even is the point? Frappuccinos from time to time though.
    • Lucy – Herbal Tea!
    • Julie – A nice oat milk latte from the pink Nespresso machine
    • Arran – Very black. Filter, espresso or americano
    • Luca – In a tiramisú

I’d like to thank Geo Morgan and the poncle team and also Jennifer Tam and Peter Nguyen from Apple for their time and help here.

You can keep up with all our interviews here including our recent ones with Shuhei Matsumoto from Capcom about Marvel Vs Capcom here, Santa Ragione here, Peter ‘Durante’ Thoman about PH3 and Falcom here, M2 discussing shmups and more here, Digital Extremes for Warframe mobile, Team NINJA, Sonic Dream Team, Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment, and more. ‘Dead Cells’ Clean Cut Update 34 Coming Later This Year for Mobile, Update 35 To Be the Final Major Update – TouchArcade

    [ad_1]

Dead Cells is one of the best games of the last decade across platforms. Originally on PC, it made a huge splash on consoles before seeing a superb mobile release. Since launching, it has gotten multiple major free content updates and paid DLC packs. Today, Motion Twin and Evil Empire both announced that Dead Cells update 35 will be the final major update for the game as Evil Empire moves on. Motion Twin’s announcement confirmed that the Clean Cut Update that hit PC and consoles back in April 2023, will be coming to mobile later this year. I assume Update 35, the final major content update, will arrive in 2025 for mobile. Speaking of mobile, Dead Cells is available on iOS, Android, Netflix, and Apple Arcade. Watch the Dead Cells trailer below:

If you’ve not gotten Dead Cells yet, read my 2023 review update here covering the Dead Cells Return to Castlevania DLC, patches, state of the game, and more. Dead Cells was our Game of the Year in 2019 when it hit iOS as a premium release done by Playdigious. With update 35, the game will have had 4 DLC packs, 18 updates, and more across 5 years by Evil Empire. You can play Dead Cells on iOS, Android, Netflix for mobile, Apple Arcade, Steam, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, PS4, and PS5 worldwide. My favorite versions are the Steam Deck and iOS releases. What do you think of Dead Cells if you play it regularly?

PlatinumGames’ Action Game ‘World of Demons’ Is Leaving Apple Arcade on January 18th, Will Be Unplayable After February 1st – TouchArcade

    [ad_1]

PlatinumGames just announced that its Apple Arcade exclusive action game World of Demons () will be leaving the service on January 18th. If you never followed it before, World of Demons was originally a free to play game set for mobile, but it was changed to be a premium game for Apple Arcade. It even had a soft launch in select countries before going to Apple Arcade back in 2021. World of Demons brings players into a world of yokai with a gorgeous aesthetic. Since launching on Apple Arcade, it never saw any major updates, and I always wondered if added story content or battles were planned. Watch the trailer for it below:

If you’d like to play World of Demons before it leaves Apple Arcade, you can grab it here until January 18th. It will be unplayable for everyone from February 1st. As of this writing, a port to any other platform or a standalone iOS release hasn’t been announced by PlatinumGames. I hope it does see a port to Steam and Switch in the future though. Check out our World of Demons forum thread from the game’s launch back in April 2021 here. Did you play and enjoy PlatinumGames’ Apple Arcade exclusive action game before, or will you be trying it before it is removed from the service?

Words in Progress and BEAST Bio Exo Arena Suit Team Release on February 1st – TouchArcade

    [ad_1]

Following today’s release of three games on Apple Arcade, Apple has revealed the (seemingly) two games coming to the service next month on February 1st, 2024. The games are the unique 3v3 online action game featuring animal heroes piloting powerful mechanized armors in BEAST: Bio Exo Arena Suit Team and new word puzzler Words in Progress. Both of them arrive on the same day, and Apple has also confirmed that many games will be updated leading into next month. Check out some gameplay of the 3v3 online action game BEAST: Bio Exo Arena Suit Team below:

While not really my favorite genre, I’ll give BEAST: Bio Exo Arena Suit Team a shot when it launches. I’m more interested in Words in Progress to see how another developer tries to do something interesting with word games. The puzzler includes asynchronous multiplayer, multiple language support, an endless mode, and more when it launches. Apple has also announced updates for Crayola Create and Play+ coming January 12th, Jetpack Joyride 2 getting the Hamster Ball Vehicle, and other content updates planned for Cut the Rope 3, Snake.io+, Puzzle & Dragons Story, Cityscapes: Sim Builder, stitch., WHAT THE CAR?, Samba de Amigo: Party-To-Go, and more coming.

You can sign up here for Beast Bio Exo Arena Suit Team and here for Words in Progress to be notified of when they are available to download or to have them downloaded when available depending on your setting. I hope we see more games added each month because this seems a bit less than expected. What do you think of today’s releases and the February 2024 announcement?

I’ll update this with our new forum threads when they go up.

  • Temu was the most-downloaded iPhone app in the U.S. in 2023 | TechCrunch

Temu was the most-downloaded iPhone app in the U.S. in 2023 | TechCrunch

    [ad_1]

Temu, the Chinese e-commerce company whose app is now attracting longer engagement times than Amazon, is Apple’s most downloaded free app in the U.S. for 2023. The Cupertino-based tech giant today released an App Store feature that showcases the top iPhone apps of the year, free and paid, as measured by app installs — its proxy for overall popularity. This year, apps from Chinese-based companies have taken over spots previously held by U.S. tech giants like Meta and Google, as CapCut and TikTok, which hail from Beijing-based ByteDance, came in at No. 3 and No. 5, respectively.

Meta, which last year held the No. 3, No. 4, and No. 9 spots with WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook, respectively, showed up in the top 10 this year with a slightly different mix. Gone from the charts is Facebook, while Meta’s new app Instagram Threads was the No. 3 app by U.S. downloads. Instagram and WhatsApp followed at No. 6 and No. 9, slipping in position from their ranking last year.

Google, meanwhile, had dominated last year’s list with the No. 2 app YouTube, just behind TikTok, as well as No. 5 Google Maps, No. 6 Google Search and No. 7 Gmail. In 2023, however, Google’s only two apps in the top 10 by downloads included No. 7 Google Search and No. 8 YouTube, both also slipping in ranking from last year.

The shift in downloads could represent that U.S. tech giants are nearly at a market saturation point, where their apps aren’t as in demand as they were in previous years because many already have them installed. It also points to the growing demand for apps from Chinese firms, like ByteDance, which are attracting younger users’ attention along with government scrutiny, with TikTok being banned from a number of government devices over concerns about its China ties. Montana also attempted to ban TikTok in its state, but that ruling was put on hold by the courts for the time being as TikTok’s lawsuit progresses.

The negative attention TikTok has received in the year may account for its slip from being the No. 1 app last year to now the No. 5 app. But U.S. consumers haven’t sworn off Chinese apps by the looks of things, given Temu’s No. 1 position. Data from Apptopia, reported by Bloomberg, noted that consumers were spending 18 minutes per day in Temu’s app, compared with 10 minutes in Amazon. Younger users spent even higher amounts of time, at 19 minutes per day, on average. While Temu attracts users with in-app games, its real draw may be its bargain prices — which have more of an appeal during an economic downturn.

The only other top app in the list not from Meta, Google, or a Chinese firm was Max (formerly HBO Max), which showed up as the No. 3 app by downloads in the U.S.

The top paid apps list showcases a different market, more often of smaller developers or those building useful productivity tools, creative apps, or utilities that users are willing to pay for. Here, the top 10 included (in order): Shadowrocket, HotSchedules, Procreate Pocket, The Wonder Weeks, 75 Hard, Autosleep Track Sleep on Watch, Goblin Tools, TonalEnergy Tuner & Metronome, SkyView, and AnkiMobile Flashcards.

The top free games, meanwhile, included several of last year’s winners, like Roblox, Call of Duty: Mobile, Subway Surfers, and Parking Jam 3D, as well as some new additions. This list’s No.1 app was MONOPOLY GO!, followed by Roblox (up from No. last year), Royal Match, Subway Surfers (down from No. 2 last year), Gardenscapes, Call of Duty: Mobile (up from No. 8 last year), Block Blast!, Makeover Studio: Makeup Games, Parking Jam 3D (ranked the same as last year), and Survivor!.io.

The top paid games in the U.S. were led by Microsoft-owned Minecraft, and also included Heads Up!, Geometry Dash, Bloons TD 6, MONOPOLY, Papa’s Freezeria To Go!, Plague Inc., Red’s First Flight, Five Nights at Freddy’s (which became a movie this year, too), and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

Apple’s feature also includes separate lists of the top iPad apps and games, both free and paid, for the year, as well as top Apple Arcade games. The latter offers the only glimpse into Apple’s subscription gaming store, which is otherwise a black box as it doesn’t feature a Top Charts section like the larger App Store does.

There’s some overlap in these lists, though streaming apps make a better showing among the free iPad apps. That list includes (in order) Max, YouTube, and Netflix in the top 3 spots and Disney+, Prime Video, and Peacock at No. 5, 8, and 10, respectively. Top iPad games also include more kid-friendly titles, like Toca Life: Hospital (No. 5) and Teach Your Monster to Read (No. 7).

Football Manager 2024 Interview – We Talk to Sports Interactive About Game Features, Working With Apple Arcade, Switch Physical Releases, and a Lot More – TouchArcade

    [ad_1]

Last month, SEGA and Sports Interactive released Football Manager 2024 on Apple Arcade (Touch), Netflix (Mobile), consoles, PC, and even Game Pass. If you missed my detailed review covering many versions of the game, read it here. Following the launch, I had a chance to talk to Sports Interactive about features on different platforms, working with Apple Arcade, cross save, Switch physical releases, and a lot more. The focus will be Football Manager 2024 Touch, and I spoke to Producer Neil Harper and PR & Content Executive Andrew Sinclair from the team here.

TouchArcade (TA): This year, Football Manager 2024 ships on more platforms than ever before. How do you decide what features to prioritize adding into each platform when development begins?

Neil Harper (NH): Speaking from my experience in the Touch and Console teams, we consider a number of factors when deciding which features to introduce in a given year. These include the vision of our Design team, player habits & analytics data, player sentiment and feedback from both our QA teams and Studio Director Miles Jacobson. We also consider the work that the PC team have committed to and then look to tailor some of their additions to ensure they fit the various Touch and Console platforms from both a gameplay and practical functionality perspective.

TA: Football Manager 2024 Touch’s standout feature from the get go is the interface optimized for iPhone screens. This year, it feels like a proper game tailored for iPhone as well as iPad rather than being a tablet game ported down. How much work went into the iPhone side of things here?

NH: We reviewed feedback from Football Manager 2023 Touch and understood the frustrations of some users with the size of the menu options available.

We were keen to make the iPhone version of the title as accessible as possible and therefore a lot of time was spent to ensure that this was an improvement on last year’s version while also ensuring the best iPhone experience with both touch and controller input.

As a team we always try to remain agile and responsive, so we’re already looking at the feedback on this year’s changes and discussing how we can drive further improvements to the interface in the future.

TA: Has there been any additional work for iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max?

NH: When we are developing new features for our Touch games, we always consider how this will look and function on an iPhone.

This means both older models and the latest and greatest. With the newer models of iPhone, for example, we have to consider and cater for the Dynamic Island and ensure that there’s enough space within our user interface.

TA: If we go for a reductive way of differentiating the versions of Football Manager 2024, you have PC followed by Console followed by Touch and then Mobile with features and complexity reducing in that order. Do you think we will reach a point where you have one version of the game on all platforms with just the interface changing?

Andrew Sinclair (AS): We have done a lot of user research over the years and we understand that each of our four titles all serve very different audiences with differing needs and playing personas.

So, our priority as a studio is ensuring that we continue to serve all of those people by ensuring that each edition of Football Manager is optimized to be the best version possible for that format and audience.

TA: What is your favorite feature in Football Manager 2024 Touch that makes it stand out compared to the last few years for those who haven’t played the game in a while.

NH: That’s a tough question and not an easy one to answer!

I’d probably say the new Dynamics feature. This has been present in the PC version of Football Manager for a few years but we’ve introduced it to FM24 Touch in a wholly different way.

Being able to set your own principles from the first day you take a job is a unique touch and the feature is wholly immersive, with your actions throughout the seasons being reflected in how your players buy-in to your vision and ultimately how they perform in training and on Matchdays.

TA: How has it been working with Apple and the Apple Arcade team for two years in a row now on the game.

NH: Working with Apple for the past two years has been an incredible opportunity. Both the Production and Marketing teams at Apple Arcade strive to ensure that the best game possible is released on their platform and are always receptive to our features and plans for the Football Manager Touch series.

The relationship between our team and theirs has gone from strength to strength since we first began on this venture.

TA: Are there plans to ever offer Switch and Apple Arcade save syncing since both are the same Touch version?

    NH: Not at this time.

TA: Are there any plans to do a physical release on Switch?

AS: We have released a physical version of our Switch title in the past and we’re doing so once again with Football Manager 2024 Touch. This is only going live in selected Asian territories though, with some launching in early December and then Japan’s launch following in January 2024.

TA: What are the challenges at Sports Interactive for the developers working on multiple versions on a yearly franchise?

AS: It’s a big undertaking, certainly, but as we have specialized, dedicated teams working on each of these titles it’s actually more streamlined than you might anticipate from a development point of view.

There is a challenge for our Marketing team because they have to ensure that their strategy effectively communicates the new features and key information about all four editions. Our Customer Support team has to be agile too in understanding the complexities of each version across various devices in order to adequately support players who might have encountered bugs or are having technical issues.

The key for both of them though is constant communication internally with the relevant platform teams throughout the year, meaning that they know the feature set early and have access to builds and production updates.

TA: Is there a dedicated team working on each version or are there shared staff members?

AS: We have dedicated teams for all four versions of FM that we release on a yearly basis – FM, Touch, Console and Mobile. These teams include dedicated Quality Assurance Testers as well as producers and designers focused on delivering the best product possible on their specific platforms.

Some teams across the studio, such as our Research group, work with each of these individual platform teams throughout the year.

TA: How do you balance game features in Apple Arcade where there are no microtransactions while the console versions have those?

NH: We do have a number of in-app purchases available in Football Manager 2024 Console but these are designed to be fun extras without being essential to progressing in a save.

With FM23 Touch, we ran a series of events that offered players one-time use items such as a Dream Transfer that they could utilize within their saves. Look out for these once again with FM24 Touch.

TA: Are there plans to bring the in-game editor or pre-game editor to Apple Arcade in the future?

    NH: Not at this time.

TA: So the game has controller support, but does it also have full keyboard mouse support on iPad?

NH: Yes, there is full keyboard and mouse support for people playing FM24 Touch on iPads.

TA: What would you like to add to FM Touch that you couldn’t add this year?

AS: While we would always love to add even more to each of our releases, we’re proud of the feature set in Football Manager 2024 Touch. From our perspective we feel that we have introduced things that will impact and improve everyone’s saved games, whether that’s carrying forward your career from FM23 Touch or setting up your new manager principles, and the feedback we’ve had so far from our players backs that up.

I’d like to thank Sports Interactive’s Producer Neil Harper and PR & Content Executive Andrew Sinclair and also Jennifer Tam from Apple for their time here.
