5pb just announced a huge sale on its iOS games for a limited time. The discounts have rolled out, but the most notable one is both versions of the super popular visual novel time traveling adventure Steins;Gate($19.99). Steins;Gate and Steins;Gate HD are separate apps. Longtime readers and iOS gamers might remember when we had games with HD versions for iPad. That has carried over to the current version of Steins;Gate on iOS. Right now, both Steins;Gate and Steins;Gate HD are down to $3.99 from $19.99 for a limited time. The historic low price is $2.99, but this is still a fantastic deal if you’ve not played Steins;Gate yet. If you do have a modern console, you can play Steins;Gate Elite which is a remake of Steins;Gate featuring anime cut-scenes. I like both versions and can recommend either, but prefer the original as it feels like the best intro to the genre for me.
If you’ve not played Steins;Gate on mobile, read Shaun’s review of it here. It has a fantastic story with great characters and a brilliant soundtrack across its multiple endings. Steins;Gate is also a great entry point into the visual novel genre. It is available on the App Store for iPhone here and iPad (HD) here. Check out the forum thread for Steins;Gatehere. You can get it here on Google Play where it is free to start, and I’m not sure if it is discounted there as of now. What is your favorite game in the series across all platforms and will you be trying out the console and PC release Anonymous;Code in September?
This week’s new ACA NeoGeo release from SNK and Hamster is the 1993-released pro wrestling game 3 Count Bout($3.99) which follows the likes of King of the Monsters 2, Thrash Rally, and more. I haven’t played this specific game, but I’ve enjoyed SNK’s wrestling games thanks to NeoGeo and Pocket Color releases on other platforms. 3 Count Bout is out now worldwide on both iOS and Android as the newest ACA NeoGeo series release. 3 Count Bout debuted in 1993 and has you aiming to become the strongest wrestler and take over the champion’s throne. It includes aerial moves, dash moves, illegal moves, and strike exchanges. 3 Count Bout also has electricity matches and street matches. As usual, you can read Shaun’s article here covering the 10 best games in the series on mobile if you’re new to SNK and Hamster’s series. A screenshot from the Android version of 3 Count Bout is below:
You can buy 3 Count Bout ACA NeoGeo on the App Store for iOS here and on Google Play for Android here. As with prior releases on mobile, this costs half of what it does on consoles at $3.99. If you aren’t sure if this one is for you, I’d recommend going with one of the games Shaun recommended in his best games list.

Mini Motorways on Apple Arcade, Nintendo Switch, and Steam and Mini Metro on multiple platforms have both added three maps to celebrate the 10-year “Miniversary”. The two updates feature six new maps in total (three per game) and new features. Riot Games’ previously announced “Soul Fighter” cross game summer event is now live across all of the publisher’s mobile games and also League of Legends on PC. This event has new in-game content available across League of Legends: Wild Rift(Free), Legends of Runeterra, and Teamfight Tactics on mobile. This is the first of its kind for Riot Games on mobile, and it is going to be interesting to see if we get similar cross game events in the future. Watch the trailer for the Soul Fighter event in League of Legends: Wild Rift, Legends of Runeterra, and Teamfight Tactics below:
If you’ve not kept up with the event, Teamfight Tactics brings in a new game mode, narrative experience, Event Pass, and more. The mode is Soul Brawl while the new tacticians are Chibi Gwen, and Chibi Soul Fighter Gwen. League of Legends: Wild Rift has six new Soul Fighter skins, a new Tag Duel game mode designed exclusively for League of Legends: Wild Rift, and more. Legends of Runeterra has a new event pass, emotes, cosmetics, and cardbacks during this event. The event is live from now until August 28th worldwide across all the games. If you don’t have them yet, the games featured in the Soul Fighter event are available for free on iOS and Android. Do you play Teamfight Tactics, League of Legends: Wild Rift, and Legends of Runeterra on mobile or PC and will you be taking part in this cross game event?
Spike Chunsoft has discounted all four Danganronpa games on iOS and Android for its summer sale from now until August 20th. Following the trilogy hitting mobile to celebrate the anniversary over the years, Spike Chunsoft even brought the spin-off to iOS and Android following its Switch exclusivity ending with Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp. If you’re curious what the team behind Danganronpa has been doing since those games released, the Nintendo Switch exclusive game Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE which features a lot of the key staff behind the Danganronpa games released a few weeks ago. Read Shaun’s review of it here. Currently, Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc($10.99), Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair($10.99), Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony Anniversary Edition ($10.99) and Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp($10.99) are all discounted down to $10.99 each for a limited time.
Like the last sale, these aren’t the lowest prices they’ve been at before, but they are all worth the current price if you don’t already own them. The iOS versions are my favorite portable versions of the games. Get them on Android here for $10.99 each. Check out my reviews of the first two games on mobile here and here. Note that the App Store versions for each game are different for some regions. The prior links are for North America. Use this one for Asia. Keep in mind that these games do not support controllers or cloud saves. Check out the official website for the mobile ports here and our forum thread for the games here and here. Have you played the Danganronpa games before or will you be grabbing them on sale?
A few hours ago, Stardew Valley creator Eric Barone (ConcernedApe) posted more about the massive upcoming Stardew Valley($4.99) 1.6 update. In the Tweet, Eric mentions this update will bring in a new festival, new items, more dialogue, secrets, and more. I’m curious to see what else is added because the game is superlative already, and Eric has long crossed the boundary of going above and beyond for players. If you missed our prior coverage of it, this update is being worked on as a break from Haunted Chocolatier. Stardew Valley 1.6 will also make things easier and more powerful to mod. The modding will likely be just for PC. If you’ve not kept up with Stardew Valley on mobile, we had the massive 1.5 update hit with many smaller updates following to improve the experience. The newest major update on mobile brought in new end game content, quality of life features, the ability to move beds, a new Beach Farm, advanced game options, and a lot more.
Stardew Valley 1.6 still doesn’t have a release window for mobile, but I hope it does come to mobile soon after the PC and console versions. Stardew Valley will be joining Apple Arcade very soon as Stardew Valley+ if you subscribe to the service and don’t already own the mobile version. If you haven’t tried Stardew Valley yet, read our original review. We even featured it as our Game of the Week. You can buy it on the App Store for iOS here and for Android here on Google Play. If you own a Nintendo Switch and an iOS device, I compared both versions of the game to help you find the best platform to play it on. Here’s our forum thread on the game for more discussion. What do you think of Stardew Valley version 1.5 if you played it and what else would you like to see in 1.6 in the future?
It has been over a year since I reviewed the last paid DLC for Dead Cells. Since then, Dead Cells on mobile has gotten multiple major free updates and recently got the superlative Return to Castlevania DLC. With Dead Cells($8.99)Return to Castlevania out now on iOS and Android, I wanted to revisit the state of the game on mobile and how it compares to the PC and console versions. One more thing to keep in mind is Dead Cells+ on Apple Arcade offers all the game’s paid DLC for free if you have an active subscription through the Apple Arcade release. This review feature only covers the premium release, but everything also applies to the Apple Arcade version.
On mobile, Dead Cells is currently missing the Clean Cut Update, but has all prior updates and paid DLC available. We are closer than ever before at feature parity, and I hope we eventually get cross platform save syncing for mobile and PC at least. As with my other reviews of multiplatform games, I’m also going to compare the mobile release with the console and PC versions I have access to. With Dead Cells, I own the game on Xbox, Switch, PC, and iOS so will be discussing how it plays on Nintendo Switch (OLED model), Steam Deck, iPad Pro, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 11, and Xbox Series X.
The Dead CellsReturn to Castlevania DLC, priced at $6.99 on mobile, brings in two new biomes (Dracula’s Castle and the outskirts), 14 new weapons from Castlevania, 3 new bosses, 20 new outfits, a new story featuring Alucard and Richter Belmont, secrets, and more. This DLC even has a new soundtrack option you can enable which is superb featuring 51 original tracks from Castlevania and 12 songs from there reimagined to fit into Dead Cells. Despite the high (compared to prior DLC) asking price, the Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania DLC gets my highest possible recommendation if you enjoy Dead Cells. If you don’t, this DLC will not change anything though. I do love how the story in this DLC perfectly fits into Dead Cells.
So far, every DLC pack for Dead Cells has been worth it with some over delivering in value. I’ve been just blindly buying them on Steam because the support Dead Cells gets is incredible. With Dead CellsReturn to Castlevania, I’m still floored at how much care and attention went into bringing the world of Castlevania into Dead Cells. The bosses, new music tracks, visuals, and all the weapons make this superb. This might be one of my favorite DLC packs ever, and is essential for every Dead Cells owner.
I wasn’t playing anything on holiday last week barring the new PowerWash Simulator DLC, but I did test out my new Final Fantasy XVI DualSense controller with Dead Cells on my iPad. In its current state, I’d say Dead Cells on Steam Deck remains my favorite way to play it, but the iOS version is definitely the next best option. While the Switch version isn’t a mess like it was at launch, I’d still play Dead Cells on iOS over Switch. I’m looking forward to seeing how the new native PS5 version feels because I wasn’t happy with how Dead Cells performance was on Xbox either.
If you’ve not played Dead Cells on mobile in over a year, you’ve missed out on huge updates like the Boss Rush Mode and Everyone is Here 2 updates. These updates added in an alternative game mode, characters from amazing indie games, new cosmetics, enhanced bosses, and a lot more. Both of these updates were also free continuing the trend of Dead Cells getting even better for every owner of the game.
Dead CellsReturn to Castlevania DLC was a perfect expansion on consoles and PC when it debuted, and it is still essential with its mobile release. Dead Cells on mobile is a superb version of the game, and I hope it eventually gets cross platform save syncing. That’s really the only feature I want to see added. If you have Apple Arcade, you get Dead Cells and all prior DLC including the Return to Castlevania expansion in Dead Cells+ making it one of the best games on the service. If you like Dead Cells and Castlevania, why are you even reading reviews? Just buy the DLC and enjoy one of the best expansions we’ve seen for any game in a while.
Dead CellsReturn to Castlevania DLC iOS review score: 5/5

Over the weekend, Red Nexus Games’ pachinko roguelike Peglin(Free) for iOS, Android, and PC saw its largest update hit in the form of the Spinventor update. This update, version 0.9.22, brings in the Spinventor class featuring more than 15 new orbs and 10 relics. The update also includes changes to various aspects of the games including some names being changed and specific removals. As usual, the iOS update notes don’t have a ton of details, but the Steam update page for this release goes over the various changes and adjustments this update brings to iOS, Android, and PC. I’m still working on a review of the game covering it on mobile and Steam Deck. Stay tuned for that in the near future as I make my way deeper into it and check out the newest update. Hello. Our pal Mikhail is on vacation right now, and that means it falls to me to announce this week’s ACA NEOGEO release on iOS and Android from the folks at SNK and Hamster. This week’s pull comes from very early in the lifespan of the arcade/home platform. It’s none other than 1991’s Thrash Rally($3.99), originally developed by ADK. You can pick it up now on your mobile device of choice for a lean, mean $3.99. Wondering what it looks like on mobile? Well, you can peep a screenshot below. Or check your local App Store listing. Options a-plenty, but you’ll be doing me a favor if you check it out here.
A top-down take on rally racing, it perhaps wasn’t the most immediately impressive NEOGEO game of its time, but it sure was a lot of fun. Critics largely enjoyed it, and it did well enough for itself to earn a spiritual successor in 1996 called Over Top ($3.99), which was already added to the mobile ACA NEOGEO line a while back. I’ll most likely be doing a review of this game soon, as I have for many others in the past. In case you missed it, last week’s ACA NEOGEO mobile release was the futsal game Pleasure Goal, and you can read my review by clicking somewhere around… here. And in case you want to check out the website for the ACA NEOGEO mobile line, that can be found somewhere around… here. Do you have any happy memories of Thrash Rally? Will you be picking this one up? What’s your favorite game in this series so far? Do you like pineapple on pizza? Feel free to chime in on all of these questions in the comments below.
Devolver Digital has now released McPixel 3($2.99) on iOS and Android following its launch on PC and consoles. If you’ve not kept up with it, McPixel 3 is the sequel to McPixel($2.99). If you’re wondering about McPixel 2, watch this. McPixel 3 has now brought it quirky humor to mobile as a premium release. I expected McPixel 3 to be a bit more expensive so this price is nice to see. There’s a bundle with both McPixel games as the “Trilogy” on Steam right now, so I’m curious if this comes to mobile in some form, though both games will be published by different developers on iOS. You can watch the McPixel 3 trailer below:
McPixel 3 is now available for $2.99 on the App Store for iOS here and on Google Play for Android here. If you’ve not played the original game yet, you grab McPixel or its free version on the App Store for iOS here and here. I’ll likely be reviewing the iOS version in the near future. If you’re curious about how McPixel 3 is on Switch, read Shaun’s review here. The console and PC versions of McPixel 3 is priced at $9.99. Have you played McPixel 3 before on any other platform or were you waiting for the mobile version?
Earlier today, the Pikmin 4 demo launched on the eShop worldwide. Progress from the demo carries over to the full game as well. To celebrate the demo, Niantic has announced a collaboration costume for Pikmin Bloom(Free) for those who play the demo or full game on Switch when it launches. If you play the demo to completion, you can unlock a special Pikmin 4 Oatchi-Rider costume for your Mii in Pikmin Bloom. This also applies to playing the full version as well. Oatchi is a space dog who will join you in Pikmin 4. I was curious if we’d see collaborations and cross promotions like this, and I wonder if Nintendo will do something for Pikmin Bloom players who buy Pikmin 4 with some in-game content in the console game unlocking. Watch the Pikmin 4 trailer below:
Full details on how to redeem the costume for your Mii are here on the official Pikmin Bloom website. We featured Pikmin Bloom as our Game of the Week when it released. If you’d like to try it out, you can download Pikmin Bloom for free on the App Store for iOS here and Google Play for Android here. Head over to our forum thread here for more discussion around it. Pikmin Bloom is free to play with in app purchases including different sets of coins and storage. What do you think of Pikmin Bloom so far and are you going to play it at launch?

If you missed last week’s release, Hamster and SNK released Ninja Commando on mobile. Read Shaun’s review of it here. Aggressors of Dark Kombat is a fighting game I haven’t played yet in any form. It features eight characters going into unrestricted battles. I’ll likely be grabbing it on Switch rather than iOS in the near future, but I’m sure Shaun will be checking it out on iOS soon. Aggressors of Dark Kombat is out now including the usual features in Hamster’s ACA NeoGeo releases on mobile. If you’ve not kept up with the series and want to know which ones to grab first on mobile, read Shaun’s new feature here covering the 10 best games on mobile.
