  • The Best Fashion Moments From the 2026 Golden Globes Red Carpet

    Amanda Seyfried. WireImage

You might still be easing into 2026, but awards season is already out in full force. In a twist from the usual schedule, the calendar kicked off with the Critics’ Choice Awards, and just a week later, it’s time for arguably one of the most fun ceremonies of the season: the Golden Globe Awards.

The Golden Globes celebrate the best in the film and television industry; this year, Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another garnered the most nominations for a film with nine, closely followed by Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value, which netted eight noms. The White Lotus leads the pack with six television nods, tailed by Adolescence with five.

Tonight, the Golden Globes return to the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, with Nikki Glaser once again taking on hosting duties in a repeat from last year. The 83rd Golden Globe Awards also mark the first time that podcasts will be honored, as this year the show is introducing a Best Podcast category. So far, announced presenters include Amanda Seyfried, Ana de Armas, Ayo Edebiri, Charli XCX, Chris Pine, Colman Domingo, Connor Storrie, Dakota Fanning, Dave Franco, Diane Lane, George Clooney, Hailee Steinfeld, Hudson Williams, Jason Bateman, Jennifer Garner, Joe Keery, Judd Apatow, Julia Roberts, Justin Hartley, Kathryn Hahn, Keegan-Michael Key, Kevin Bacon, Kevin Hart, Kyra Sedgwick, Lalisa Manobal, Luke Grimes, Macaulay Culkin, Marlon Wayans, Melissa McCarthy, Mila Kunis, Miley Cyrus, Minnie Driver, Orlando Bloom, Pamela Anderson, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Queen Latifah, Regina Hall, Sean Hayes, Snoop Dogg, Wanda Sykes, Will Arnett and Zoë Kravitz.

The evening always begins with a dazzling red carpet, when A-list guests arrive in their finest fashions. The Golden Globes tend to offer a more exciting spectacle in terms of style; it’s still a black tie event, but it’s not as buttoned-up as, say, the Academy Awards, which is why it’s one of our favorite red carpets of the entire year. Take a look at all the best, most fashionable moments from the 2026 Golden Globes red carpet.

  • Jude Law Contributes Nothing But Full-Frontal Nudity in ‘Eden’

The mostly nude ‘Eden’ character Friedrich Ritter (played by the neurotic hilt by Jude Law) and his companion-bedmate (Vanessa Kirby), who eventually loses her mind. Jasin Boland

After a dismal debut one year ago at the Toronto International Film Festival and a universal refusal of commercial release by every major film company, Ron Howard finally decided to open his dreadful, independently produced and directed film Eden with his own money. Curiosity centers on one word: “Why?”

    EDEN (1/4 stars)
    Directed by: Ron Howard
    Written by: Noah Pink
Starring: Jude Law, Ana de Armas, Vanessa Kirby, Daniel Brühl, Sydney Sweeney
    Running time: 129 mins.

It’s a strange, creepy departure for Howard, who grew up in the movie business, from a cute kid on Andy Griffith’s TV sitcom and family-fit movies like The Courtship of Eddie’s Father to a mature, Oscar-winning director of box office hits such as Apollo 13 and A Beautiful Mind. Like Steven Spielberg, his films are usually polished, coherent, and suitable for all ages. His obsession with Eden delivers none of those things, and it’s so vile, pretentious and confusing in style over substance that a lot of it is downright unwatchable.

Set in the years after World War I when fascism was growing in fear and chaos, it centers on a small group of obnoxious German dissidents who denounce Hitler’s allegedly civilized society and withdraw to an ugly, barren volcanic island in the Galapagos called Floriana, led by an eccentric Teutonic doctor-philosopher named Friedrich Ritter (played to the neurotic hilt by Jude Law), who spends his days glued to a broken-down typewriter writing a book about the New Order. Ritter believes the only way to save the world is to destroy the old one and create a new one. He drags along his companion-bedmate Dora (Vanessa Kirby), who writhes and jerks her way through the agony of multiple sclerosis before eventually going stark raving insane.

Any warped would-be Nietzsche like Ritter is bound to attract supporters, so it’s just a matter of counting sheep before other followers and fans show up. Heinz Wittmer (Daniel Bruhl) and his wife Margret (Sydney Sweeney) bring along a son with tuberculosis, thinking Ritter will welcome them, but he is hostile and hateful, warning them that life on Floreana is unsurvivable. (That doesn’t begin to cover it. There’s no fresh water, and food consists of muddy roots, dead animals and wild pigs.)

Next comes the loopy Baroness Eloise Wehrborn de Wagner Basquat (Ana de Armas) with her sexual threesome, phony accent and vicious dog Marquis de Sade. She eats only canned food, and plans to build a luxury resort hotel with whatever she can beg, borrow and steal. In what seems like an eternity, they all argue, vomit and resort to violent blows. While we watch them fall apart, Howard lays on the horror. Jude Law contributes nothing more than an abundance of full-frontal nudity because that’s what he does best in almost all of his films. There’s plenty of sex, disease and animal cruelty, while most of the cast dies from food poisoning after eating rotten chickens. But it’s really Sydney Sweeney who wins the top prize for unspeakable suffering in a long, unbearable sequence of natural childbirth without anesthesia while a pack of hungry, snarling dogs watch and wait, hoping to make a meal of the newborn placenta.

The deadly screenplay by Noah Pink brings to the assignment zero knowledge of form, craft or discipline. No character is developed seriously or deeply enough to reach more than the most superficial surface identity. Eden is supposed to be an adventurous examination of what happens when civilization breaks down and man’s true nature is revealed, but it comes off more like one of those boring, incomprehensible Wes Anderson films that they make up, scene by scene, as they go along.

  • Ron Howard on telling a true story with ‘Eden’: “We have the evidence to show it and the great actors to bring ’em to the screen” [EXCLUSIVE] | The Mary Sue

jude law shirtless standing with vanessa kerby

When it comes to directors who have done some iconic films, Ron Howard’s name is often at the top of the list. And he’s no stranger to telling stories that are based in real life events, like his new movie Eden.

Based on the true story of the Galapagos Affair, the film details how Dr. Friedrich Ritter (Jude Law) and his partner Dora (Vanessa Kirby) moved to survive on the Galapagos islands. There, Margret (Sydney Sweeney) and her husband Heinz (Daniel Brühl) join them with their young family. But when you maroon people on an island without civilization, things can go haywire.

Set in the 1930s, the film is breathtakingly beautiful. Partially because of Ana de Armas’ costumes but also because of the film’s setting. As you’re watching the movie, you find yourself shocked that this is a true story and that is something that Howard loves to do with his work. I was lucky enough to speak with the iconic director for his work, especially what the trick is to telling a historical story and making it interesting.

“It comes down to choosing the story because there are a lot of amazing events, but not all of them have the structure to be built into a movie. And Eden is a little bit unusual in that way, structurally. But you do have to adhere to the reality, especially something like Eden because you can go online and learn so much about these characters and even see more videos about sort of how they really lived on that island in the Galapagos,” Howard said.

He went on to compare another one of his iconic films to how Eden worked out. “So what you look for are big surprises that you might otherwise say, ‘Oh, come on, that’s ridiculous. That couldn’t happen that way.’ Apollo 13, they would never make it back alive, but they did. So you get to dramatize something that’s really unusual and really extreme. And in this case, these characters are bigger than life, except they’re not bigger than life. They did live, and we have the evidence to show it and the great actors to bring them to the screen.”

  • Movie Review: Ron Howard’s ‘Eden’ brings 1920s chaos on a Galápagos island to life

Ron Howard’s “Eden” opens with a bold statement: “Fascism is spreading.”

It’ll surely carry weight in modern society, but the phrase is referencing events from nearly a century ago. Based on a true story, “Eden” retraces what happened when a group of Europeans attempted to start anew on the remote island of Floreana, only to encounter the earthly failings they hoped to escape: chaos, blackmail, betrayal and even murder.

Howard assembles an impressive cast, though it isn’t always enough to make up for the overambitious plot of a film that drags in the middle.

1920s Germany, haunted after accepting blame for World War I, was on the brink of demise, as mass poverty and broad social unrest laid ground for the extremism that birthed the Nazi party.

“Eden” shows us none of that, instead dropping us on a small island of the Galápagos, where Dr. Friedrich Ritter ( Jude Law ) and his loyal partner, Dore Strauch Ritter ( Vanessa Kirby ) found solace after fleeing their native country. The idealist doctor is inspired by a newfound purpose of penning radical philosophy that will “save humanity from itself.”

Yet the historical resonance, which could have provided pointed commentary on the parallels between today and the 1920s, falls flat amid the film’s overlong runtime, unlikable characters and shaky accents that most actors stumble in and out of. In the midst of the film’s crafted chaos, the story inevitably loses focus. Still, “Eden” made room for some memorable performances.

More adventurists eventually arrive on the island, and just like that, human interaction starts to breed madness.

The doctor’s philosophical work has spread through letters and newspapers across Europe, attracting settlers like Heinz Wittmer, a veteran of the Great War played by Daniel Brühl, and his much younger second wife Margaret, played by Sydney Sweeney.

The Ritters’ quiet isolation is disrupted by the couple, who arrive with Wittmer’s young son, chasing the promise of an island utopia to ease their deep disillusionment with everyday reality. The tension between the two groups further exacerbates when Eloise Bosquet de Wagner Wehrhorn ( Ana de Armas ), who calls herself the Baroness, arrives with her two lovers, determined to build a resort on the island.

What results is a cat-and-mouse game between the three groups, ripe with betrayal, distrust and tension. The battle for resources exposes just how much of their morality these people are willing to give up for survival, at least attempting to — but never fully succeeding — in addressing the question: When do people bend to human instinct?

The film lacks depth in exploring questions of morality and human nature while depicting Ritter’s lofty goals to save humanity. His philosophy spirals into madness throughout the film, reduced to brief, sometimes painful and surface level sound bites that eventually devolve into incoherent ramblings.

The movie is at its most compelling when its three female actors are on the screen. Different motivations bring them to the island, each of which ultimately centers on the same blind faith in the idea of the masculine leader. They all end up vastly disappointed.

Dore is consumed by an unwavering devotion for Ritter, a man who never lives up to the image she’s crafted in her mind. Margaret, having married an older man expecting guidance, is instead forced to build her family’s future from the ground up, only to fight tooth and nail to preserve it after her husband nearly destroys them. And the Baroness, who confidently declares herself “the embodiment of perfection,” oozing with seduction, ultimately crumbles at the rejection of a man.

Arguably, Sweeney — who is almost unrecognizable as the timid and brunette Margaret — steals the show. She easily delivers the most impactful scene of the movie, as she was forced to give birth to a baby boy alone in the middle of the desolate island.

It’s not hard to guess who won’t makes it off the island, either by choice or by force. It is a true story after all. The bloody ending feels unavoidable from the beginning, almost as predictable as human nature itself. But maybe that was the point all along.

“Eden,” a Vertical release in theaters Friday, is rated R by the Motion Picture Association for “some strong violence, sexual content, graphic nudity and language.” Running time: 129 minutes. Two and half stars out of four.

  • Ana De Armas makes a killer ‘Ballerina’ in John Wick spinoff trailer | The Mary Sue

Ana De Armas makes a killer ‘Ballerina’ in John Wick spinoff trailer | The Mary Sue

Improvise. Adapt. Cheat. That’s the advice that Eve Macarro, played by Ana De Armas gets in the first trailer for the John Wick spinoff, From The World of John Wick: Ballerina. And it’s a pretty solid one for surviving in the violent and ruthless world she is about to step into.

The official trailer for Ballerina, the fifth film in the Keanu Reeves led John Wick franchise is here, and it’s like we never left. The film plonks Armas’ Eve Macarro smack in the clandestine world of assassins, the Ruska Roma, and the High Table, where she must hone her skills as an assassin to go up against the Chancellor, the main antagonist in the film who is responsible for killing Eve’s family.

The neo-noir action thriller is directed by Len Wisemen (Underworld, Total Recall) and written by Shay Hatten (John Wick 3 and 4, Rebel Moon), and sees the return of our favourite characters from the world of John Wick. The trailer begins with Ian McShane’s Winston Scott asking a young girl covered lightly in blood and holding a bloody musical glass globe with a ballerina inside it if she likes dancing and if she’d like him to take her to a school he knows of where they teach dancing.

It’s followed by a training montage featuring an older Eve, played by Ana De Armas, as she learns how to be an assassin that can do martial arts and shoot weapons from Sharon Duncan-Brewster’s character, Nogi, despite her petite frame. She is simultaneously also learning ballet, under the watchful eye of Angelica Huston’s The Director, the head of the Ruska Roma, the Russian organised crime syndicate that trained John Wick and has a seat at the High Table.

Clearly, Eve is under the protection of Winston, to whom she returns, all grown up. We see her check in at every assassin’s favourite stay, The Continental, greeted by the familiar and bittersweet sight of the concierge, Charon, the late Lance Reddick in his final posthumous appearance on screen. There’s a lot of swashbuckling with guns and knives that happens next, and can I just say, Ana De Armas has taken on the action and violence in a way that is rather becoming of an assassin in the world of John Wick! Plus, the title track playing in the background really lends the perfect vibe to what we’re watching unfold on screen.

A few nice surprises are stowed in, like the first look at Norman Reeds as Pine, a mysterious character that we don’t yet know much about. And of course, the Baba Yaga himself gets a goosebumps-inducing entrance in the final moments of the trailer, befitting of the almost-mythical nature of Keanu Reeves’ character. Eve is just like all of us fangirls if we were ever to meet John Wick; she asks him how to do what he does. And his answer is sure to be a huge confidence booster for her!

In case the scene of Wick meeting with The Director in the trailer didn’t clue you in, Ballerina is set in the timeline between John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4, probably right around the time that Wick arrives to meet The Director, and presents her with the rosary to seek asylum after being labelled “excommunicado” by the High Table.

The Ballerina trailer has been highly anticipated for a while now, and now that it is here, it has succeeded in keeping the John Wick vibes alive! I’m always a fan of women kicking some serious ass, and ever since I saw Ana De Armas give us a sneak peak of it in her outing in a Bond film, well, I’ve been looking forward to this one! Although, we will have to wait a bit for this one.

From The World of John Wick: Ballerina arrives in theatres in June 6, 2025.

The Yesterday Lawsuit Was Not Here to Stay

Leak the Ana de Armas cut.
    Photo: Daniel Pockett/Getty Images

Over two years and thousands in legal fees later, we can all forget about the Yesterday lawsuit, much like every character in Yesterday forgot about the Beatles. The class-action lawsuit from two Ana de Armas fans mad she was cut out of the film despite being in the trailer was officially settled on April 12, according to Variety. The details of the settlement are unknown. Peter Rosza and Conor Woulfe initially sued Universal in 2022 after renting Yesterday for $3.99 on Amazon. They got an early win when a judge agreed with them that trailers are commercial speech, rather than art in their own right, and thus subject to false-advertising claims. Then, however, they needed to prove that a large group of people were falsely led to watch the movie because they wanted to see Ana de Armas, but when the movie is based on the Beatles, that’s a tough sell. The case was thrown out. Rosza and Woulfe were left with $126,705 in Universal’s legal fees. The famed Ana de Armas stan account, @ArmasUpdates, has yet to weigh in.

  • Ana de Armas Shares Story About Robert De Niro and Her Dad During ‘SNL’ Monologue

Ana de Armas Shares Story About Robert De Niro and Her Dad During ‘SNL’ Monologue

Ana de Armas hosted Saturday Night Live last night with musical guest Karol G, timed nicely for the forthcoming release of her Apple TV+ movie Ghosted co-starring Chris Evans directed by Dexter Fletcher. She appeared gamely in her share of wacky sketches, like one opposite Bowen Yang with Guinness Book-length fingernails, and another with Chloe Fineman in a dog acting school. Alas, she did not have a part in the cold open sketch, a weirdly insightful look at what Central Park is like on the first very warm day of spring.

Her first appearance, then, was in her monologue, which wasn’t exactly a doubled-over laugh riot, but more than compensated by being charming and sincere. The 34-year-old actress shared a number of personal stories, after first greeting the audience in Spanish.

She explained how, when she first came to this country at the age of 26, she did not speak English, but learned it “the way everyone who comes to this country does: by watching Friends.” She then did a little schtick, imitating “the best English tutor,” Chandler Bing.

What followed was a story that sounded too specific not to have a kernel of truth. While taking early audition classes, she was asked to read lines containing the idiom “I beg your pardon.” Not knowing exactly what it meant, she injected it full of drama, as if she was literally begging.

In time, of course, the recent Academy Award Best Actress nominee did start getting roles, and she mentioned one of her early pictures, Hands of Stone. While not a particularly good movie, the boxing biopic co-starred Robert De Niro, who told her that he would soon be visiting her native Cuba. One thing led to another, and he asked for her parents’s contact info. She forgot about it until one day, de Armas’s dad called to say that the two-time Oscar-winner had shown up at his work.

De Armas also shared that, in just a few weeks, she will officially become a U.S. citizen.

Colin Farrell received the Golden Globe Tuesday for best actor in a movie, but delayed his acceptance speech for a bit of fanboying. (Watch the video below.)

As presenter Ana de Armas gave him the trophy and walked away, “The Banshees of Inisherin” star called out to de Armas to gush about her performance as Marilyn Monroe in “Blonde.” De Armas was nominated for a best actress Globe, but lost to Cate Blanchett for “Tár.”

“Ana I thought you were extraordinary,” Farrell told de Armas. “I cried myself to sleep the night I saw your film, ‘Blonde.’ I cried myself to sleep. Something to do with the music as well that played at the moment where the shot opens and you just see her ankles at the edge of the bed. It messed me up so bad.”

Hearing laughter in the crowd at the Beverly Hilton, Farell added: “Not a joke, but you’re welcome to laugh. It’s not my place to say what’s appropriate laughter, not in this world.”

Keanu Reeves and Ian McShane to Return In ‘John Wick’ Spinoff

It’s difficult to imagine any film in the John Wick universe not featuring Keanu Reeves in a major role. Luckily, we don’t have to. He’ll be back for the upcoming spinoff film, Ballerina. Ian McShane, who plays Winston in the series will also be appear in the spinoff. That being said, we don’t really know exactly where in the continuity this film takes place, so things could get complicated.

The thread which leads to Ballerina is self-explanatory enough. The Director, portrayed by Anjelica Huston in John Wick: Chapter 3, runs a ballet troupe. They aren’t your run-of-the-mill ballerinas though. They’re highly trained assassins, merely posing as dancers. The film will follow an assassin portrayed by Ana de Armas.

Basil Iwanyk, one of the film’s producers, recently shared that they had secured Ian McShane, stating: “We’re thrilled to have Ian McShane joining us for a pivotal role in Ballerina. He’s been such an integral part of the franchise since the original ‘John Wick.’ It’s been fun to have him on this journey as the ‘Wick’ universe expands”.

There’s really no indication yet when we can expect Ballerina to premiere in theaters, but we can definitely look forward to more and more John Wick in the foreseeable future. John Wick: Chapter 4 is scheduled for release on March 24, 2023.
